So I've looked around the forums, waiting for several months and finally! Finally! Have the Lollipop arrived to my Sony Xperia Z3 Dual, model D6633 with Build Number 23.1.1.E.0.1.
However! I am literally pissed. The only reason I waited was because it was going to add a move to SD card feature. Moved over 13 apps or so. Only to realize nothing was actually moved to my External SD card but to my "Internal" SD card and am now literally facing the problem I've been longing to get resolved for several months. No more space, want to move apps to my SD card. I've had it and want to root my Z3 so I can move some apps to my External SD card. I've heard tons of different opinions and read this and that about the consequences about rooting your Android. I've so far only jailbroken iPhones and that's about it. Never rooted an Android phone.
This time around, I want to give it a shot. What exactly do I need? I just want to simply be able to keep all features intact, nothing special just be able to move apps to my SD card. Is there anyone willing to help me? What do I need and etc.

there are plenty of tutorials on here for this sort of question, use the search feature
Searching can be a bother with all the off topic nonsense included and search can often result with more people commenting with "use search", an infinite loop on some device forums.
OP: I'm not sure if lollipop fully supports it but I had this issue in the past and found the best app was Link2sd, as it provided a proper way to store the app data on the external sd card. It's a little complicated and requires root privilege and it also has many other features.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Gt-8013, 16gb white. So I've had my note since the end of September and have not really used it much till recently. Downloading large games/apps and coming to realize that I can't move ANYTHING to the SD card what a shame. Now before people just comment and say why didn't you buy a 32gb I thought that I could move the apps to the SD card and managing storage wouldn't be a problem. How wrong was I. So my first thread and I'm asking what have you guys done to solve this annoying problem no matter how easy or hard the method was.Yes, I've searched the threads and I've read a lot of options but I just feel like none of them are Noob friendly.

Check my thread (one on my signature). Haven't been able to get it working for every android device yet, but it works great for anything with data/media, which includes the note 10.1 Essentially my script makes all apps (and apps only) get installed straight in the external SD. One warning: the process is more advanced than just flashing something in recovery, though not too advanced that You won't be able to do if you follow instructions.
Personally I use directory bind, this requires root. Directory bind will allow you to specify exactly which folders you want to redirect to sd. I currently redirect all my game data to sd, leave plenty of room on internal storage.
The other bonus, since my game data is on sd if I have to wipe I won't have to download all those gigs of data again.

I dont know why more developers dont give you the option to store large data on the external card. Bards Tale came out and initially stored all data internal (3-4Gb), couple of updates later and it gives you the option to store externally so more developers need to cotton on to this and sort their apps out !

I am the kind of person who likes to get into an operating system to see what it can really do and have recently rooted my P5110 - I went for the tablet first because I didnt want to "learn" on my more vital device, my S3. After few false starts I got it rooted. However coming across so many things I don't understand, and therefore don't want to touch yet, that I want to find an easy way to learn more about the OS and how it can be tweaked. I realise there is a lot of information here, but mostly you have to know what you are looking for and so a few videos or step by step guides about how and what you can do would be really useful I feel. I also find that that the rooting world seems to have more than a few myths about it- for example one thing I wanted to get around is the crazy and annoying restriction of no longer being able to install apps on, and move apps to, an external SD card. I am finding that although people are saying you can only do this if you are rooted, now that I am rooted I still cant, despite having downloaed apps that claim to do it. They will move to SD but not to extSD which is pretty pointless on the tab because from what I can see apps already go to the internal SD storage. Some people tell me its a Google thing and some say its Samsung.

I really hope someone would respond to this post or give me ANY kind of guidance on this issue because since I switched to android and bought GP2 a week ago, I keep asking different variations of this question, on (twice on XDA, and 3 times elsewhere) and not one answer or any kind of response!!!..
I've been trying to find out a way to install apps directly on sd card, if not then to move apps to sd card after installation. I found some information online but some outdated, some vague, and some tried but somehow didnt work.
I rooted my device and tried app manager but it didn't move large apps like games to the SD card (said it did but actually didnt). I also downloaded a game that the uploader said the data folder can be saved on SD card under (android\obb\) but again it only runs when i save the data folder in this location on internal storage, but wont run if saved on sd card.
I'm not sure why did no one respond to my questions, but anyway, I'm not asking any specific question now... I just hope that anyone with couple minutes of free time can talk about how he handled this issue.

I think you need something like FolderMount [ROOT] or so.
You can find it on Google Play.
Apps shouldn't be running on sdcard in the first place. The data folder (obb) on sdcard makes sense but apps on sdcard should be a no go. Didn't even know why Android had that choice at a point of time.
I should probably root, but I'm not the most tech savvy and void warranties and bricking actually scare me.
But, my Shield Tablet is only 16 gig and I'd like to store the large many games I have locally so I'm looking for any and all information I can find about storing as much data as possible on SD. I'm on lollipop, so I know the feature was added back in, but my knowledge stops there.
Since I don't know what I don't know, any information on how to free up internal space and move game or game data to my SD would be super helpful.

Go into settings, apps, then click on an app, and "move to SD card"
As he said you can go to settings, and move to SD card. But that only works on select games, and doesn't always move all the data. If you would really like to move large library files for games on your SD card, you do need to root, it's the only way
It's pretty damn difficult to brick this tablet (I think that even if you were to break fastboot, nvflash would still be able to fix it), and afaik nvidia doesn't void warranties for rooting.
This is the exact same question I wanted to ask, I'm about to buy one of these tablets, but in the past, ive used other android devices and the only things you can put on the SD card is music and videos. This is one thing thats stopping me going for this tab or any other Android tab, how does rooting change this then, sorry for my ignorance?

Rooting allows you to put files on the External SD card, and trick android into thinking there on the internal SD card.
That's pretty much it. Simple, but useful for large games and other things, like I believe the VUDU movie app allows you to download movies, but only to the internal SD card.

I see in your sig at *least* three devices that support moving Apps to SD card, using the exact process I described in my post above.
So I bought this Sony Experia Z3 (D6600) Just over a week ago, and was immediately unimpressed with the way
kitkat handled the SD card. ( I forked out for a 64gb card as I was intending to store all my games and media on it )
So after a lot of reading about workarounds, and trying out programs from the play store I came to the conclusion
that it wasn't possible to acheieve what I wanted due to security issues google had implemented with kitkat.
My understanding at this point was that lollipop addressed the issue and allowed installations to be moved to the
external SD Card again, so I have now got a version of lollipop running and rooted. However, when you install a game
or app it still installs some to the primary storage and then moves a portion of it to the external SD card. So currently after
having only installed four or five games I have 2.9gb free on my device memory and 58.3 gb free on the external card.
Kinda defeats the object doesn't it !! Even with everything moved to external card it is going to fill up soon.
So what I am asking (And to be honest I am really surprised I am having to ask it, and it's not something that can't be
set up by the user) Is please please does anyone know I can change my default storage from the phones storage to the
SD card. ( i.e. Swap sdcard for sdcard1 ) So as I do not have to worry about the device filling up so early in life.
I know there is no vold.fdstab or whatever it is anymore, but other than that I have no further info with achieving this on
lollipop. Is there a different file I can alter to swap it, or is a case of needing a different kernel flashed or something?
Any info would really really be welcomed !!
