Hello,
For some reason, I can't get the sim-card tray to open up.
I'm inserting the provided pin into the hole next to the tray, I'm almost completely sure I'm not doing something wrong.
I'd rather not return the device, since the store doesn't have the phone in stock and thus it will have to be sent back to Samsung (with the accompanied waiting time).
Is there an other way to open the sim-card tray?
Kind regards,
kaico
Push 'relatively' hard!
I was being too careful when i opened my sgs6 and remember needing to apply a little extra push with the provided pin.
I agree w previous answer. When I was setting mine up I had the same problem, turns out I wasn't pushing in hard enough. You have to apply an amount of force that, if never done before, feels like way to much, but It's not. When you see the slot pop out you'll know.
Thanks for your answers.
I managed, with a lot of power, to get the sim card tray to pop open.
Unfortunately, it has only opened a millimeter or so.
I'm unable to open it completely' with either pushing the pin even harder,
trying to open it with my fingernails or even trying to open it with a set of tweezers.
Any new advice?

lock it back in, and use a paperclip, punch hard so that it releases the lock hard and should pop out more. people are scared of pushing hard and i remember one user here went to the t-mobile store just to get it out. you can use "force" it's fine
I'm pushing as hard as I dare, tried putting the pin between a table and the phone and pushing on the phone, still no luck.
It won't come out any further than the power button is sticking out...
Seems like your device is defective then. Sorry.

Sounds like a jam to me. At least you have physical proof of it, so getting a replacement shouldn't be an issue.
Very thankful for your advice

I was just about to go to my T-Mobile store to get them to help me out. pushed hard and voila it opened!! Thanks a bunch and oh by the way, I still need to go to my T-Mobile store because I'm going from a retarded Samsung Galaxy S3 to this S6 and you need a nano sim card. So all you owners of Galaxy ancient phones, you will have to truck on over to your favorite carrier store and replace your sim card.
I just had this issue - no matter how hard I pushed by hand it would open. I wound up getting a something big and rubber (in this case a tape measure) and hitting the sim card removal tool like I was hammering a nail. I didn't need to hammer it hard, just the abrupt bit of extra force popped it out. Again - DON'T ACTUALLY HAMMER IT LIKE A NAIL, but keep tapping the sim card removal tool hard-ish till it pops out.
had the same issue on my s7 - pushed so hard the pin went in but the sim tray didn't pop out. I don't know if I've poked a hole into whatever you push into, or if the pin has ended up being forced next to it but now I can push the pin in relatively easily and the tray doesn't pop out... HELP!
my problem is the wrong carrier was put in ,now will not open ,brand new samsungA13
silly old man i am 82

Hi,
this is really stupid - I took the back of the phone to put a sim card in, and I can't get the bloody thing back on - anyone else had this sort of problem.
Looked at all the 'bits' on the case, and nothing appears to be broken

Do not try to fit it at once. You must first place the back cover half an inch away from where it is supposed to be at the end, then slightly move it towards its place.
Hi,
I do, and it gets almost to the top,but there is a small gap, and it doesn't go any further.
It has gone on before, loads of times, without problems.
Tried it with battery, without batter, other people have tried
Wow I totally read that wrong....get a paper clip or something and scrap the crevice of holder. Did the backcover warp at all?
I have been lurking in the shadows of this forum and it has helped me out alot so far. I finally registered after developing a bug or hardware problem (not sure which) with the original FW (rc33) that is preventing me from rooting my phone. Its with my QWERTY keyboard. It seems the entire top two rows are now activating more than one key stroke when i only press one, ie. press "e" and it comes up "3e". This really sucks when i get to the part of the rooting process to type "telenetd" before launching telenet. I have tried every combination i can think of to fix, but i am at a loss.
So, my question to all who can assist, is there an alternative way to root my phone other than the common way i find on all the forums? Anyway to do this thru the computer or anything? My computer uses windows vista. My phone has a non-rooted rc 29 (i did get that far in the process. i downgraded from rc33, got the recovery img on the root of my sdcard, along with the update.zip file. i also installed telenet from the apps store). I am ready for the next step is there is one for my situation.
I don't care how difficult or how many steps are involved, i just want to root my phone. Am i screwed or do i just wait for the official g1-1.5 and live with that version?

P.S. please don't tell me to turn it in for servicing. I am currently located in the country of Bahrain and that isn't an option for me for about another year. yes i am in the military and kinda stuck. Thank you for any and all support you all have to give.
since you cannot send it in you should try servicing it yourself. i do not have the link to the service manual on hand but i know there is one out there. download that and get a few torx srewdriver heads(i'm sure there are a few laying around the base) take the phone apart and try it that way. or as i have done in the past firmly press your thumb over a few keys in those rows and run it back and forth a few times, occasionally it can help it the buttons are stuck beneath the casing in some way, or stuck together
if you can connect to a wireless network and get tenetd typed correctly you can get into your phone from the comp using the telnet command on the comp
have you tried the "app for that"?
http://code.google.com/p/androidroot/updates/list
I haven't tried it so I don't know what's involved exactly but it is worth a shot.
simply type out the commands as if your phone were working normally...then use the trackball and backspace key and go back and delete the unnecessary keystrokes
Here's how the keypad works, if you're going to open it up and try to troubleshoot it:
The keys are capacitive, so there's no direct electrical connection when you press one down. There's typically one set of contacts that run in rows, and one set in columns. When you press a key, it activates the sensor in that row and column, whereas the other keys on that row and column only see half the signal. That reduces the number of pins necessary to get inputs from all the keys.
So if you're pressing "e" and getting "e3", the column wire is probably working correctly but you're getting the number row and the top text row.
Try taking it apart and seeing if there's some dust or grit between the keypad and the circuit board. If that's not it, usually there's a ribbon cable that connects the keyboard circuit board with the rest of the phone. Both the socket and the cable itself for this type of connection are notoriously finicky.
Let us know how you make out. Also, why will it be a year until you can get it serviced? Are you in the pokey?
great advice!! and timely too!!!!
Hey guys!,
Thanks for the options, it didn't take long for replies and that shows how wonderful this community really is. I will keep you all informed as to my progress. unfortunately i am going to have to wait until the morning to attempt to find a set of torx head screw drivers. right now its 11:52pm and everything is shut down. No, i am not in the pokey, just unable to get back to the states until then and if you thought the mail service was bad in the states, you should really see this place. i am not going to risk my phone through that service.
ohnoezmahfone, thanks for that information. my gut feeling is it has something to do with that ribbon cable. about 60% of the top two rows of keys are doing the same thing. Now, i have never dropped the phone or jarred it in any way, so i don't know why it just started doing this. but then again, it could be dust too. That one thing this place has plenty of!!! Sand and Dirt!!!. as soon as i get my hands on those torx screwdrivers, i will report back.
Now, if someone has an alternate method that might work before i perform open heart surgery to this android unit, by all means speak up! I can build computers but have never dove into something this small, nor do i have all the tools i am used to having. But i will give it a shot. Whats the worst that can happen? I hose it up and spend 400 on a G2 later this year? . Not a total loss, i guess.
i will follow up soon,
thanks again all!!!

in case you dont have the service manual...

I used it to open one (got wet ) and it made the job very easy! One step at a time, and it really REALLY helps to have a plastic opening tool (or a plastic knife may work in a pinch).

Hopefully I'll never need it, but it's sure nice to have this sitting on my hard drive. Thanks!
gospeed.racer you are a lifesaver!!!! i recommend that .pdf to everyone. It bailed me out of having to enter the "g1, long distance throwing competition". Anyways, i followed the service manual step for step, took the g1 fully apart and when i got to the keypad module i didn't find any dust. kinda feeling like this was all for not, i proceeded to put the phone back together. once complete i powered it on. then i started to type and Holy Crap!!!!! it is fixed. all the keys are the way they should be and soon i will be on my way to rooting my g1!!!!!!
All of you here are outstanding and i am really proud to now be part of this forum. Thank you again, for pointing me in the right direction. I guess it must have been the ribbon cable not being seated correctly, causing my problem. well, not any more!!!!

p.s. BTW i would like to thank all that posted in this thread. i couldn't have done this without you.
awesome that its fixed now. welcome to the world of root
get one of these http://www.androidaccess.com/sdcard/store.html
you wont need the top two rows of your keyboard to use it
it should reset your keyboard once you go back to rc 29 then it will allow you to just enter two commands that will root your phone. you can read about it here:

So, as you can probably guess from the thread title, my SIM Card is not being recognized by my phone and I cannot seem to get the tray open. Will AT&T fix this even if I've rooted my phone and unlocked my bootloader? Any suggestions on how to get my tray open? I've tried using the tool that came with my phone and a paperclip and neither of them will open the tray.
Edit: I finally managed to pry it open. After taking the SIM Card out and putting it back in again, everything is working fine for now. Hopefully it stays that way.

the easiest way to get the door open is to use a pin or toothpick or something of the sort and push it into the small hole on the sim door gently until it pops right open
So it sounds like it was working fine, then you had the SIM not recognized error, and tried to open the tray? Does it seem that the tray is damaged or anything like that? Did you previously open the tray, drop the phone or anything that may have caused the tray to get damaged? Seems odd that something like that would just happen spontaneously. Or does the tray seem okay, just a lot harder to open than you thought it would be?

Well I guess I lightly dropped it onto the carpet the night before it stopped working. Also, the main problem was that I couldn't get the tray to open using the little hole next to it. Maybe it just seemed hard because I remember it popping open a lot easier when I first put in a SIM card.
Have you fixed it yet bro?

Yeah, everything is working fine now.
I just got a new sandisk 64gb card for my infinity - and the bugger got stuck when I stuck it in the port. I've tried repeated pushing on it with a micro screw driver and tried a pair of watchmaker tweezers to pull it out, but nothing I've tried is getting the release to work. Of course, I've just unlocked the bootloader so I'm sure Asus will 'fart in my general direction' so I'm sure I'll have to dig it out myself. Anyone have any ideas??

Happened to me once, got it out with a very thin tweezers
I tried that but it's stuck in the locked position - it won't disengage from the lock. I have some thin tweezers, but even if I pull, it seems like it's locked in there. Before I yank on it (they're too thin to put much force on it) I wanted to make sure I didn't wreck something.
What you need to do is blow some hot air into the slot with a hair dryer on medium. Heat up the SD card and the slot for 30 seconds and you can easily eject that out.
I got it out! Once I got it out I looked in there. The card slot is not lined up properly with the hole on the case - when you look straight in, the bar on the SD cage is off by half a cage width. I had sent it off for service and obviously it didn't get put back together right. I'll have to call and see if they will do good on fixing mistakes of their reconstruction or not...
I cannot seem to get the SIM tray open on my Galaxy S6. I have tried the tool that comes with it as well as an earring and paperclip with no luck. I have pushed very hard, moved it up, down, and every direction. It seems to pop out very, very slightly but not enough to get a grip or pull it out. I even tried tape, hoping it would pull it out but nothing. I have run out of ideas. Anyone have a creative suggestion to try? It just shouldn't be this difficult!
Take it to a Verizon store so they can try it. If they break something they'll replace it lol.
It gets way easier after you take it out the first time. Not sure why the first time is so difficult. Just be patient with it.
