STICKIES For Newbs - BACKUP/ROOT/RECOVERY/UPDATE GUIDES - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi fellow Z3 users and XDA mods! Hopefully this request/thread will reach the right ears! [emoji101] [emoji4]
I REALLY think Z3 users (like myself) would GREATLY benefit from some of the threads in the Z3 Dev section being made into STICKIES so that new owners (and those new to rooting) can easily find the right info instead of sifting through dozens of threads.
Example from Skyrocket Dev Sticky:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho... | USE/T.S. ODIN | INSTALL TWRP/CWM | ROOT |
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...MWARE | RECOVERIES | RADIOS | HOWTO's | &MORE
*Vincom maintains and updates his stickies and lays everything out where it's easy to locate the right info.*
Possible Stickies:
- How to backup the entire phone (including DRM keys) before one makes any modifications
- How to determine if your bootloader is locked and if so, is it one that CAN be unlocked
- Some explanation as to whether rooting and or unlocking the bootloader will permanently void the warranty and if so, can the process be undone so that we can return it for warranty if needed?
- A simple step by step and UPDATED guide to rooting & installing dual recovery
- A guide to updating to Lollipop ?
- ANY other helpful guides or useful info for new owners or those new to rooting.
There's so many different threads and guides to sift through here for Z3 owners and for a new user to find the "best" or most "updated" guide can be daunting.
ANYONE who would like to see certain guides as stickies PLEASE post a +1 below. SUGGESTIONS & COMMENTS WELCOME! [emoji4]
***MODS - After posting this I realize this may be better suited in the General section. Please feel free to move it if needed.

ill be watching

Thx guys! Comment if you can - even just a +1 comment is sufficient.
We were all new to this device once! Hopefully if we raise enough attention we can help make the Z3 threads easier for the new guys. ?

Please do not spam this with +1 posts.
Also there is a fairly good sticky that in the general section that had a good round up of roms, kernels, mods, guides and tutorials.

I meant no offence - it just seems difficult to find an uncluttered location and central guide to the basics for the Z3 like:
Backing up/Installing Flashtool and what drivers to select/Rooting/Flashing Recovery/Flashing ROMS etc.
I'm new to the Z3 but not to all of the above and I was surprised at how much information scattered everywhere there was on simply rooting our device. It'd be amazingly helpful if there was a basic uncluttered thread that guides us through this and made a sticky, possibly in the Android dev section.

No offence taken. There are a few guides in the GENERAL section about how to root. Guides belong there as they are not development.

[Guide] building and modding custom roms

First of all, i hope the mods and admins forgive me that i open this thread in the development section, it would better fit to general, but i noticed that the developers aren't really present at the general section, if i'm wrong please move it.
This thread is build to become an collection of our developers knowledge that helps newcomers to androiddevelopment to start with it. I know out there are some guides already and in every thread there's a little bit of it, but i would really like to collect as much as possible at one place, if it's not your opinion delete it.
It's not ment to become an step by step guide (but if anyone will write one i'm sure not upset ), it should be an collection of links, and posts of special parts of development, cause i think most developers aren't the overall specialists, but kings in their section^^ and the readers of these informations can compile what they want from it.
So pls dear android developers share your knowledge with us

Video Tutorials for Newbies

I own a Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 and have been following the CM9 and CM10 forums lately. Instead of asking numerous how-to noob questions, one fine day I decided to go through all the pages of CM9/CM10 to get a better understanding of how its done. After reading all the pages (yes, all pages) I decided to give it a try on my phone, and was successful at flashing the desired ROM.
After going through the entire thread, I realized, there are more number of noob questions than helpful posts that add to the value of xda-developers. While I understand that there are a lot of new members who're excited to flash their devices and ask a lot of questions that sound like noobs, it decreases the value of content at xda developers. I would hereby like to add value to this great forum by helping new members get a better understanding at flashing a new rom in a step by step video tutorial process.
I have made a few video guides on 'Custom ROM reviews' and 'How to install a custom ROM onto i9003' on my Youtube channel, the links to which are below. If you think this will help reduce a lot of repeat questions, please thumbs up this video and help spread it to newbies. If the response is good, you never know the Mods may make it sticky for the betterment of all members.
Precautions:
1. These tutorials are for Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 only, please don't use these files for any other device.
2. Make sure your battery is fully charged.
3. Take a full backup of your phone. You may loose all data otherwise.
4. Enable USB Debugging on your phone. (Settings--Applications--Development--Check USB Debugging)[/SIZE][/COLOR][/COLOR]
Credit to all the developers and users of xda developers.
I will continue to make and add more videos to this thread, ranging from basics to tricky ones. Here's a request to all members to direct noob members to this thread to avoid repeat questions.
Thank you!
Nice guide man

Finally, I kept wondering why XDA cannot be organised, and cannot adopt this system for all threads and stickies meaning all rules and XDA guides, should be here too, instead of being another sticky by another MOD. Thus the moment a guest or member clicks on this link or meant to pop up automatically the moment anyone visit this forum, they have it all.
References and guides and note worthy XDA articles can all be linked here . similar to the master guide you have already mentioned but including all the MOD's request , for every-time there is New MOD, I notice another sticky, all well meant and needed BUT can be placed in one sticky, is what I would think is a better organized forum. IMHO
And this thread should be managed by all MOD's instead of just one, who might retire or may be too busy with other tasks
Members, Please do not post in this thread unless you have a sticky request. Any off topic posts will be deleted immediately
If the title of my thread could be changed from 50 to 100, that'd be great.
Thanks.

[Completed] updating my phone

Hi everyone!
i'd like to uptate my phone to android kitkat if its possible i ve seen some videos on youtube but im a little bit sceptical about it , I have LG-P705 with the android 4.0.3.
btw I apologize if im posting on the wrong category
HI,
Yes, there are lots of options for you it looks like. This is the section for your device....
LG Optimus L3, L5, L7
See the development sections for ROMs for your device.
Are you rooted? You need to have a custom recovery to flash ROMs. If you are completely stock, you've never received an update?
Here is a great guide that covers a lot... Read up, the more you learn ahead of time... The easier and safer things will be..
> LG Optimus L3, L5, L7Optimus L3, L5, L7 General>[L7]P700/P705 Guide for Rooting,CWM install,ROMs,Baseband
You can ask for help regarding the things in the guide in that thread.
Other questions or issues should be asked in the Q&A section. (see my first link)
Good luck!

Thanks alot for the clarifications but i'm newbie and i don't really now the procedures i understand that i have to root the phone first then i don't know what to do ... could you wrap it up for me please.
XDA Assist is for helping navigate the site only.
That said...quick summary...
-unlock bootloader (or some equivalent exploit )
- flash custom recovery
- root... Or just flash custom rom, which likely is already rooted. (always read rom flashing instructions carefully)
It's all in the guide I linked.
There's other ways, but that's a whole other can of worms.
Further questions will have to be asked in the guide thread, or stay a new thread in your Q&A section. ?

No sorry. But you can just copy your original post to a new thread.
Again, read and read. The more you know, the smother life will be with this stuff. Going into things confused is a recipe for trouble.
You will find this advise will probably be repeated. It's on all us members to do the homework, and ask for clarification on things.... But getting walked through things can also lead to trouble if you misunderstand something, or the person helping you is just wrong. ?
Read the guide I linked. Read some of the replies... As they often have the same questions you do. Browse the general and Q&A sections and you'll find similar questions and info that you've been asking. Especially read the stickied threads at the top of the sections.
This hobby requires work, effort and time. ?
Again, good luck!

New to Rooting

Hi guys
i am new to rooting devices i have jailbroke my ipad etc but i have always had android mobiles in particular nexus 4/5/6
i am looking to root my device the sole reason being so i can use Hound on my phone. can someone point me in the right direction on where to start with this currently running *nexus 6 with latest firm update*
thanks for the help in advance
Hi,
Before asking this basic question on a very popular development friendly device, I would suggest you visit the N6 section, here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6
The General section has a Roll up Index thread which likely has the help you need, and there are other great guides and tutorials in the General and Q&A sections.
If you get stuck after doing your homework....you can ask for help in the Nexus 6 Q&A section. This hobby takes a LOT o reading. You will find it tough to get help if you don't read read read first. Especially with a Nexus device, where there is lots of info here for those. Also, the more you know, the less likely you will run into troubles with your device.
Good luck!! And I will close this thread.
