Hi, I'm far from an experienced modder. I only root for hotspot tether, to eliminate Sprint bloat, and for certain apps that need it (like call recorder). I currently have the RODT ND2 4.4.2 ROM and want to find the least complicated way to get to a STABLE, rooted, official-ish version of Lollipop. I'm not looking of an adventure or to do this regularly.
Can anyone please advise:
Which ROM would be least complicated to install? Will it support OTA updates or no?
What's the best way to keep (or transfer) all my app data without corrupting things or having to reset every app?
Any known issues I should watch out for in the upgrade process?
Appreciate your help on this!
Check metalfan's rom in this section. It's close to stock and he got rid of annoying pop-up notices
You really should be asking this question in the General forum. This forum is for development only.
Yeah, wasn't sure if this was the right place for it. I don't see a delete option so I can re-post... Can a Mod move it?
1. You need to flash the full tar 5.0 with Odin
2. Titanium Backup
3. You can't run any 5.0 roms until you have updated everything with the tar (bootloader specifically)

Side note, only the full tar, unrooted, will get OTAs. Custom roms will not.
Thanks for the reply. Is there a specific ROM you recommend?
Also, I read somewhere that lollipop had a somewhat different file system. Will that cause problems with apps/data restored using Titanium from 4.4.2?
Thanks. Will check it out. How well supported is it when there are updates or bugs?
I didn't have a problem restoring apps. Tdunham has a basically stock rom but I don't think he is doing much with it now, MOAR is stable and ever evolving, my rom is pretty stable as well as it is based off of tdunhams rom with a few features from MOAR.

Hi,
I have been trying some new ROMs on my I9300. During the process I installed the S4 Revolution ROM V11 Beta 2. The ROM works but is quite buggy and slow so I decided to flash it back to Omnirom. However since then I get no network connection for internet or calls. I get the same with the stock firmware also. If I reflash the S4 Revolution ROM I only get network access if i select to install the "XXEMG4 Modem" on setup.
I have tried wiping cache, formatting partition and reinstalling other ROMs but still no luck getting the network back - Only on S4 Rev ROM.
Is anyone able to offer some insight in to this?
Thanks.
Gordon.

In my opinion, I would drop S4 Revolution ROM and make the move to Sac's Custom ROM. It is the most stable ROM that I have flashed. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512983

Disregard url. Thats was for Sac's Custom Rom for the S4. However, there is a version for the S3.
Hello, i'm looking for an official debloated 2.3.6 firmware for the sgs4g..
I was wondering if anyone has it? I know there is a debloat zip creator, but that doesn't work through the stock recovery...
I don't want the 2.3.6 with kc1 because that creates a bug with the sdcard constantly having to be read....
Thanks for you help

Another alternative is to install the Blastoff Kernel @bhundven made, you can grab it here:

It will give you root on your rom which will allow you to use my debloater so you can pick exactly which apps you want to remove. It will also give you the option of upgrading to a more recent ROM. I would actually recommend this seeing that there are a lot of problems with running 2 year old software and I feel that the current batch of kit kat roms available are at a state that you can use them as daily drivers with no major issues.
Hi everyone
I would like to have some information on the rom mentioned in the subject line;specifically the one in the following link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-0-t3094423
I have installed the previous ROM before but I have several issues such as fingerprint, video editor, saving mode not working.
This is my current version
What's the best and least invasive way to install the latest version.
Should I do a clean install?
My phone is slow at the moment so need to get it sorted and I'm thinking to get the latest ROM which might fix those previous issues.
Can someone tell me what's the best approach? thank you
I rooted my z5 and trying to return stock rom.

well mate without flash tool as you say you can't flash stock rom there is no other way if you want full stock, however you can always install a rom thats based on stock like https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/rom-rxsw-moonbreakers-edition-t3454984 which is marshamllow decent battery life and everything should be working if you do not like marshmallow perfectly understandable; when looking for sony based custom roms go ahead and check out the description of the op and see what the custom rom is based on and if it has included stuff like lineage or aosp which is NOT STOCK therefore volte will not work as it is not based on stock but if its something like 32.4.A.1.54 then thats obviously stock nougat... hope i was any help shame lineage does not have volte because its becoming quite inconvenient for many users lol forcing them to switch to stock roms... oh well we cannot always have what we want. Hit thanks if i was any help
Hey people, I had issues with my V20 (H990DS) so I'm back to zero (LGUP to stock Nougat and soon going to root).
Since I'm starting over I'm considering which rom should I use, I'm leaning towards stock based roms to keep features like the HD Recorder and the high-impedance mode of my DAC (most important feature for me).
On the stock side I know that the Nougat Super rom is very good, are there other suggestions? I was using the stock Oreo roms before formatting, is it worth it to jump into the Oreo stock again or is the performance in the Super rom better?
For custom roms I know Lineage only, unfortunately you lose some features from the phone, like the high-impedance mode, but the development is steady and you get updates for the future.
I read that the 17.1 is still having issues but I read that they plan to fix them and maybe release a 18 version, maybe the 15.1 or 16 are more stable and worth using until that happens?
I'm open for suggestion, I'd like to know your opinions on good roms for the V20.
i am still using wetarom after 5 years.... theres a post here about some dude upgraded to oreo then ultimately choose to downgrade back to nouget and install wetarom.....the conclusion he had was: wetarom still run the best with least bugs and problems
