I flashed cm12 nightly and its working great but i miss the stock android and want to revert back to android 5.1 build number LMY47I.
so i just have to flash the factory image and wipe all the data?
while installing cm12 i had to downgrade my boot loader from hhz12f to hhz12d so do i need to flash the bootloader image first or just straight away flash the factory image??

You could use a flashable stock rom put together by someone here at XDA, but I would advise you to back up your userdata and flash factory images. You can afterwards push your userdata back to /sdcard/.

hey I have updated to android 4.4.2(KOT49H), I wanted to go back to stock 4.4....will flashing the google images(krt16m) solve the problem and can I do them with the stock recovery as my device is only unlocked not rooted neither any custom recovery is installed?
You can flash the factory image if your bootloader is unlocked.
Just get the base factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#hammerhead and flash it in fastboot mode. If you use the script included, it will wipe your device.

I want to flash the lollipop factory image. My phone is on 4.4.4 as an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. Do i have to return to stock to flash the image?
Thanks in advance
when flashing a factory img, you wipe out your partitions. why would you have to flash stock for that? also, you would have to reroot. why not just flash a flashable zip of lollipop stock or aosp? found in the android development section for the n5.
I first restore to stock 4.4.4 from CM11 by manually flashing falcon_boost_user_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.57_57_release-keys-cid9.xml.zip. Everything worked.
After that, I try to upgrade to stock 5.1 by manually flashing XT1031_FALCON_BOOST_5.1_LPB23.13-56_cid9_CFC.xml.zip with mfastboot. Every part seemed to flashed successfully, but when it is finished, it won't boot and stuck at bootloader unlocked screen.
Now I cannot downgrade to 4.4.4 since the gpt.bin and motoboot.bin all failed preflash verification. I guess the bootloader won't allow downgrade. Even with all other parts successfully flashed, it is still stuck at booloader unlocked screen.
I also tried to flash twrp 2.8.7.0, but it also failed due to partition size different. (Is it because twrp can only be flashed under 4.4.4 bootloader?)
So I am stuck now. Please help me. How do I flash stock 5.1 and later CM12.1? Thanks in advance.
Try flashing the firmware with RSD Lite and see what happens.

Fixed. I found a stock rom 4.4.4 downgrade package from here.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/3omnox/moto_g_xt1031_boost_lollipop_stock_rom/
It has same contents as the 4.4.4 stock rom package I downloaded from filefactory, except there is a fastboot.exe boundled in this package (dated 6/25/2014) that is newer than the one I was using (dated 3/20/2013). This one successfully restored my XT1031 to 4.4.4 stock.
Flashed of twrp and also flashed stock 5.1 optimized from twrp. Both went well.

Hello, I'm still on cataclysm lollipop and want to upgrade to marshmallow. Would it make any difference if I first flashed the whole stock package (radio etc) 6.0.1 via fastboot and then flash cataclysm via twrp? Would it be "cleaner"?
I don't think it really matters as you can manually flash the radio and boot image in fastboot.
Can I simply flash the Lollipop tar file while I am on MM stock ROM?
Is it true that I would face bootloops?
I am planning to do it since I am unable to get my hotspot working despite trying all the ways.
The reason why I am asking specifically is that because I am getting conflicting information that there is anti-roll built in PC3, however someone else mentioned that it can be rolled back.
Currently I am on PC3 build.
Yes, but flash latest Lollipop build and factory reset before doing so or full wipe with custom recovery if you are rooted.
You have to use Odin to flash back, full factory tar.
