[Q] Android Input over LAN - Other Tools & General Discussion

hello
I have installed a Raspberry with Linux.
It runs a home automation software "FHEM".
I would like to access my android tablet (Nexus 7 2012) and send various commands out of Linux / FHEM.
For examples "input KeyEvent KEYCODE_POWER"to power on the display if an event is on , in the homeautomation.
How could that work?

[Q] How to run multiple terminals ?

Hello
I am very new to Android OS and by no means am I a linux guru
but when I use linux on my desktop I am used to have multiple terminal windows open
usually 2 - 4 terminals in which I run different programs simultaneously.
I would love to be able to do that in Android as well
because right now when I use OpenVPN I launch it from console, it runs until I ter down the tunnel
so far so good
but when I need to perform some operations from console, I CANNOT because openVPN is still running in console
for predictable operations I use shell scripts and Gscript but it is not sufficient often
I would like to be able to create more instances of terminals and switch between them like I can switch between tabs in internet browser
Could someone please tell me whether this is possible and if so, what app do I need to install.
Thank you very much in advance
Home use connectbot that let's you use multiple terminals.
Sent from my Pulse Mini using Tapatalk
thank you very much
so no more terminal emulators that allow only one instance at a time
connectbot rules
THANKS

Hi, I tried the app's keyboard functionality on a linux computer, but insted of letters I see symbols like # and $ come out on the computer, when I type on the phone's keyboard. Any idea how to fix that?

Yes, unfortunately I am aware of this problem. I had to use UNICODE input for GNU/Linux systems instead of Java mapping keys from class Robot, because this Java class is not completely supported by these systems. If a desktop environment uses UNICODE input (keyboard shortcuts), the typing of my application will work. GNOME and UNITY uses unicode input and KDE doesn't or different keyboard shortcuts. That's probably the reason why the typing is not working, unfortunately I don't know how to fix it.

Hmm, there is an older app called Gmote, which also has a java server, and that one seems to handle text input fine on my system. But that app doesn't support voice input. Maybe you can download the Gmote server and see what classes it uses?

I was able to type in libreoffice, which supports unicode input, but it's slow and you can see the application typing 4 numeric characters and then replacing them with a letter. It's very inefficient.
By the way, the X Input method seems to be an old legacy protocol that should not be used anymore:
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-list/2010-June/msg00032.html
http://code.google.com/p/uim/wiki/UimXim
So I think you need to move away from the unicode input method. X apps support unicode characters directly without the need for this legacy method.
Thanks for your feedback. I will look at it and add to the next version.

[APP] Microsoft Remote Desktop

Microsoft Remote Desktop is a free Android App on Google Play. "With the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, you can connect to a remote PC and your work resources from almost anywhere." This thread is to provide information about that app. These posts are supported by the Learning Never Ends team who have no connection with Microsoft.
The thread was prompted by portal article Microsoft Releases (Free) Remote Desktop Client for Android posted October 18, 2013 By Will Verduzco
The RDS (Remote Desktop Services) app was announced in a press release dated Oct. 07, 2013 "Microsoft is introducing the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, available for download in application stores later this month, to provide easy access to PCs and virtual desktops on a variety of devices and platforms, including Windows, Windows RT, iOS, OS X and Android."
On 18 Oct 2013 MS blogged that "Today is the GA for the Cloud OS! ... we have released Remote Desktop Services (RDS) apps into all these stores as well... Windows, Apple and Android."
PC Setup / Requirements
PC Setup
In order to control a remote desktop, the host device has to be set up. This can only be done on Pro versions of Windows 7 or higher. Unfortunately it does not work on Windows Home
Win 7 Pro
Start Menu > Computer(Right-Click) > Properties > Remote Settings >
Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)
Android App Setup
Android Setup
See screenshots attached below. Choose a memorable name for the remote desktop ("Desktop" in the screenshots) and enter the IP address e.g. 192.168.1.101 on a Linksys network. When prompted, input a username and password for the remote desktop.
Using Remote Desktop
Using Remote Desktop
When connected, your PC desktop is displayed full screen on your Android (Samsung Galaxy Note II in screen shots). Navigation, Name and keyboard icon are shown.
Pressing Navigation icon posts it to zoomed in screen. Dragging the icon around allows you to scroll the desktop.
Clicking on the name you gave to your remote desktop ("Desktop" in the attached screenshots) toggles overlay row of keys at the bottom of the screen.
Pressing on the keyboard icon toggles your Android keyboard or app keyboard with function keys as shown.
On Samsung Galaxy Note II, the pen can be used - for example, hovering over a list of threads in XDA forum shows brief description of content. In effect your Android device can be used as a touchscreen for your Windows PC.
Alternative Apps
Alternative Apps
There are a number of alternative apps to Microsoft Remote Desktop. These include:
TeamViewer for Remote Control [Free & Paid]
Alternative Apps will be added as they are suggested below.
FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ Frequently Asked Questions for Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDS).
Q. Wake on LAN (WoL) supported?
A. No WoL in RDS but use app such as Fing
Works on my Samsung Galaxy Note II with Windows Ultimate 7 as shown in my screen shots above.

Development of an Input Forwarding and Screenshowing application for linux

Hello,
We are planning to write a small application for linux that captures the Screen of an Android phone and forwards inputs from the keyboard and mouse to it.
I know there is scrcpy but it needs access to the adb shell and the mobile phone to be in the developers mode.
Are there any possibilities to achieve this without the android developer mode? An alternative we had in mind would be to additionally write a android app that streams the Screen and the Inputs via USB - are there any openSource libraries/documentation/apis we could use for that?
Thank you
Langohr

How can I use Window Emulator on my Android Device?

I'm interested in running a window emulator on my Android device to enhance productivity and multitasking. I would like to know if there are any recommended window emulator apps available for Android and how to set them up. Specifically, I would like to understand how to create multiple windows, resize them, and switch between different apps within the emulator. Additionally, I'm curious about the compatibility of window emulators with various Android versions and device models. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
You can use a virtual machine manager like Adronix, and use VNC Viewer to connect to the VM.
@Ceisero
you can run Windows 11 ARM on any Android 13 phone if the Windows 11 hardware requirements are met.
More info here:
How to Download and Install Windows 11 ARM With ISO
While it's not perfect, you can still download and install Windows 11 on ARM-based devices.
