[Q] Does camera2 api affects front camera ? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well guys, i asked this Question in Ask Any Question thread...but still din't get any reply..
so i think this is not well known and this thread give some attention to it
The question is simple ( and may be silly ) but i really don't know about this....Does camera2 api affects front camera ?
does it improve quality of selfie ? like rear camera does with applications like manual camera or better camera ?
if it does plz share some pics for caparison and the camera apps you are using

The camera2 API can be used for almost any camera sensor. Each sensor has different capabilities (e.g. focus, raw), see here: https://gist.github.com/PkmX/fefff90bab3b6eb2847f
It CAN theoretically be used for the front facing camera, but it's capabilities are extremely limited and somewhat pointless.

[Q] Camera settings

Hello community.
I havent had much of a chance to mess around with the camera settings but i have a question. I want to try to take the best pics possible but using the most native settings based on the sensor size. Does anyone know what the true native sensor size is and what is the native resolution of this device. It seems to default to 8MP but its branded as a 20MP picture. I want to avoid overly processed photos.
The back camera module is a Sony RS IM20 (Same as Z1/Z2.)
20.7 MP (5264 х 3960)
7.87 mm, 1/2.3"

[Q] Camera software and camera apps

Hello everyone. I keep reading on various reviews that Xperia Z3 gives worse front camera photos than iPhone 6, which has 1.2 MP front camera and Z3 has 2 MP front camera, and that this is probably due to Sony's software and image processing. People say the same things for the rear camera - that it gives worse photos than Sony's cameras on other phones and that that is because of Sony's software.
So my question is - if I install a camera app from the market, will that app give me better front and rear camera photos? Since it's not Sony's software, but some other? Or do those camera apps just put filters on photos? What is this "camera software" that everyone blames for lower quality of photos and how can it be altered to give better photos? Do third-party camera apps give different photos or do they also use Sony's software? How can I make my photos better?
You can try by installing camera apps, but I don’t think it will help you. I have installed different camera apps, but they can’t satisfy me. Although you may give a try.

Stock ZTE camera app on Lineage?

Is the stock (Android 9) ZTE camera app able to be exported and used on a third party ROM (Lineage) ? I've tried multiple third party camera apps and it appears the main rear camera hardware is being reported as only being 12MP.
That's really confusing because the rear camera array is advertised as being a 48MP for standard & wide angle shots, a 8MP for "telephoto" shots (but who seriously 3x optical zoom is telephoto?) , and 20MP for ultrawide shots.
Are they pulling a Bait-n-Switch by software interperlating the main camera up to 48MP?
I'm guessing there are closed source libraries / drivers which allow the OEM camera app to access all of the various cameras? Maybe someone from the Axon 7 group may know?
Has someone already attempted to do this? Does anyone want to take a crack at this before I spend two or seven weeks attempting to do so?
That's 4to1 Pixelbinning. Don't worry about that. 12 MP delivers better results than 48 MP!

Question Question about Methods to use the 48MP sensor in other apps outside the original Cam App

Hi since yesterday i know a problem with my A127f , if i use other apps to get pictures from cam, i'ts not posible to select the 48 MP sensor.
In detail i use DocSan - an application which helps to scan books etc. because of the Size of the book high resolution is necessary. If the pictures from cam is taken only 2 cams are for example selectable in openCam. So the question for me is how to get high resolution Pictures outside the original cam app.
Also i ask me if a alternative firmware would help, at this time my Handy has the newest origin samsung firmware.
It would really interesting if someone has experience how to get access to 48MP Cam, or if someone know that it is not possible.
Best regards, Frank

Question Does this camera do raw dng photo at all? And what sensor?

Anyone know if raw dng photo capture is capable on this phone? And anyone know what sensor is used? The stock app does not seem to offer raw. It would be unfortunate if raw is not supported. Presumably the sensor is decent but Samsung stock software is usual not very good. 3rd party camera software rules, if raw is capable.
I tried using the pro shot app in the play store. No luck. There is a Samsung system app that crashes when trying to take a raw picture. Kind of annoying, I really would like to be able to take raw pictures because I use Lightroom to clean things up. Cleaning up a jpeg in the edit app on the camera/gallery pretty much destroys the quality by double compressing.
This is really frustrating because I'm sure the camera sensor is capable of taking raw images it's almost like Samsung is trying to prevent it at the OS level just to prevent people from having a good camera feature in a mid-range phone.
No RAW. You can download the Camera 2 API Prober to see all the feature it supports. It supports Camera 2 Limited (Full or Level 3 are better).
Yes, Samsung limited it at the system level, the processing is done by the kernel and the software only receives the result in JPG or HEIF. That's why you can't really use other camera apps to improve the results either.

The main camera (f/1.8, 0.8µm and around 1/1.7X" sensor size with PDAF and OIS) can either use a Samsung s5kgw1p sensor, commonly known as the GW1 or a Sony IMX682.
No camera2api LVL3/FULL support. Disappointing. Is there any way to port it?
