I am having significant lag on my Galaxy S6. (Videos comparing to Moto X included) - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT: We can mark this as resolved now, if that's a thing. I changed to Nova launcher and this thing screams now. Even faster than the Moto X. It seems TouchWiz just has longer animations. Thanks everyone for the input!
I received the Galaxy S6 Edge on Monday, and let me say that I love this phone. Build quality, camera, polish...everything. Except, it lags. I guess this is relative, as it is decently snappy, but it is not as quick as my Moto X or my two year old Nexus 5. Surely I am doing something wrong?
Nearly all the professional reviews praise the speed and say this phone is so fast it screams. Nearly all of the articles I have read and impressions I have read say this phone is lightning quick. All of this leads me to believe that perhaps I have a defective unit? I measure the speed not by swiping between screens, which I think is a silly way of measuring speed. I measure speed by doing something that I do many times daily, opening and closing a folder. My Moto X is not just faster, it is significantly faster. On to some amateur videos I made to show what I mean:
Galaxy S6 (shot with my Moto X):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKRdm94p5oM
As you can see, the phone lags when opening and closing a folder. Due to this lag, it constantly registers my touch on the chrome icon that I alternate to in between touches. I've noticed this behavior in many areas when using the phone, but this is the best way to show it.
Moto X (shot with my Galaxy S6):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FOsLUuQ8B0
See how lightning quick the Moto X is? This is what I am used to and this is how my Nexus 5 behaves as well. Not a single time does the Moto X not register my touch quick enough or not open/close the folder quick enough.
When I read impressions and reviews that the GS6 is the fastest phone out there, I was expecting something faster than my Moto X and Nexus 5. After dropping nearly $1,000 switching phones, you can understand the slight frustration I have.
However, with so many reviews and so many impressions, I surely feel I am doing something wrong or I have a defective unit? Anybody else have this issue? Please help. I love this phone and if it can just be as quick as my Moto X, I will be all sorts of happy.
Some details if it helps:
- T-Mobile version
- Installed the OTA update as soon as I got it
- Have not tried factory reset (I set everything up, so kind of hoping I don't have to do this)
Thanks!

sorry but how many people open the folders like you !!!

Really, that's how you use your phone normally on a daily basis?

First of all, you should use the same launcher you are using in the Moto X, because it's pretty obvious that touchwiz has a different behaviour while opening and closing folders. For example, in touchwiz when you open a folder the screen gets darker and all the icons disappear whereas in the moto launcher they are still there.
I think it is related to the different animations they both use, why don't you try using Google Launcher or Nova?

different animations...the S6 animation take longer, this isnt lag at all....

You don't use the same Launcher, and animations are slower in TouchWiz, so when you do your retarded speed test you end up clicking on the white box from the previous folder that's still open...
If that tests defines what you want in a phone, just keep your Moto X and let us enjoy the goodies.

This isn't lag at all. Just different animations and transitions and their different speeds. One device is running stock Android with the Goolge Now Launcher, the other is running Touchwiz (or whatever its called now) and its launcher. Of course there will be differences.

Man, you guys/gals are a tough crowd. Sorry that I asked a question about my GS6 in a GS6 community.
As I said in my original post, I do not just experience this when I furiously switch folders, which is not something any normal person would do on a daily basis or ever, I just 'feel' the slight 'touch lag' as I'm using the phone on a daily basis. When I try to press two things in reasonably quick succession, it often doesn't register the second touch because I feel it is still processing the first...so I have to press it again. Sorry, it is hard to explain without experiencing the same sort of issue.
I just did that test because it kind of is the only way to show what I mean.
Anyhow, thanks for the help. I'll try a hard reset and if that doesn't work, I'll give TMo a call to get a replacement.

If you get a replacement, you will be wasting your time. The 2nd touch isn't registered because the transition animation has not completed. Use a different launcher or disable your transition animations and you will notice the problem goes away.

Hmm, so this is interesting. I set all three animations to zero, and the animation is still there even after a reboot. Looks like the animation setting only affects the opening and closing of apps. The folders and app drawer opening/closing still have the full animation.

My guess is that those animations are built into the Touchwiz launcher. You might have a better experience with Nova Launcher.

I setup my S6 with Nova Launcher and created folders like the ones you had on your homescreen on the Moto X. Not only does it match the speed switching between folders rapidly, it's noticeably faster on the S6. I'm really impressed so far.

Nova launcher (especially prime) should be just the thing that you need. As others have said, what you are experiencing isn't lag. You just need a launcher that allows you to control animation speeds since you seem to prefer a much faster animation than stock touchwiz. I use Nova launcher and it is lightning fast.

Hey, not a dumb post at all. I had the exact same feeling with my M7. I was like uh.. Why does my M7 feel faster than my S6. I eventually came to the conclusion that it's terrible ass material design lollipop garbage ( I hate 5.0 ) frou-frou animations . Then I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/galaxy-s6-tips-tricks-t3072036 . The below 3 steps have made a world of difference. I turned all those scales down to zero and disabled the double tap to launch cam. Made my UI experience way more satisfying. I don't know why Samsung/google would use such slow animations.
1B. Disable the double-tap quick launch in the camera options to get rid of the delay when pressing the home button. It's a neat feature, but makes the home button much more quicker. (Thanks to @B1aze)
13. Developer Options.. To enable this, go to Settings--->About Device--->Tap "Build Number" 10 times and you will unlock Developer Options!
14. Make your device a bit faster by going to Developer Options and setting window animation scale, transition animation scale & animator duration scale all to 0.5.
edit: I see you already tried the animations thing, so yeah maybe a different launcher for you. Try the camera thing though, will at least help the home speed

I tried Nova launcher and Google Now launcher, and it's safe to say that we can end this thread. This thing is FAST!
I guess TouchWiz does indeed just have much slower animations. I tried both other launchers and settled with Nova. So many customization options. I set animations low and the phone screams now. Just what I wanted.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

All galaxy devices lag. My wifes s6 is slow compared to my 2 year old nexus 5.

[Tips] SPB Shell 3D - Theme

I wanted to start a separate thread for people using SPB Shell 3d to discuss tips, hidden features, requests, post pix, etc.
Please keep comments about the price of the app out of this thread!
====================
I'm currently running imilka's Gingerbread Sense v0.1 on my HTC HD2. On this build Shell 3D *flies* - much faster then Launcher Pro, ADW, and Zeam. It's not even close. I tried to go back my my Desire HD build, and I found it a bit slow on that build (and slowed the overall phone as well).
On my current build, battery use is excellent. With a low amount of use today, I've gone through 40% of my battery in 10 hours (60% left). This is early, but seems better then other shells, or at the least not worse.
It is running 36-40 megs memory while running on my phone.
Here's the combined note of requests I sent to them:
First, before I send the list, it's MOST important to keep the overall speed and lack of lag in Shell 3D. If any feature on the list causes a slow-down, I'd rather keep the speed.
Likewise, while a slightly larger memory footprint is do-able, I wouldn't want it to get much bigger (running memory).
I'm sure many, if not all of these things are not new to you, but here's the list of things I'd like to see in future versions. I emailed a couple tmes yesterday, but wanted to send a complied list:
- In the full Calendar page, I would love to see scroling to get to more events.
- Speaker of scrolling, support for scrolling widgets would be a major plus, but I wonder if this feature causes lags & slowdowns in other launchers.
- Missing Matching Widgets. I love the look of the 'glassy rectangle' in the Weather, Calendar, Favorites. I don't like how the SMS widget has it's own look (at least put the glasssy look in it). On the widgets to add, please add rss (a simple one, nogoogle sync needed), battery (matching glassy theme), twitter, facebook)
- Change Application Draw button (the one in the draw in the bottom right. I'd rather change that to my own app)
- Option to remove buttons from dock (perhaps have no buttons but the carousel button)
- A number of people don't like the Autosort. They want blank space at the top & to be able to put an icon on the bottom.
- Change Default apps (so when I click Calendar, it runs Pocket Informant)
- Gallery widget not working? I get 4 buttons. The far left one is a non-picture folder on my sd-card. The far right is the gallery app. The middle 2 are..??
- Can each screen have it's own background color (like in the carousel previews)?
- Option for no Text Labels for App Favorite Folders
(will probably be more in the future
Things I Think are Not Needed:
- Resize Widgets. I've seen a few requests, but I don't see too much need for this. Would be nice, but not urgent I think.
- Change Rows/Columns. Same as Resize. I think this would cause your own Widgets major problems, so probably can't do this one at all.
- Live Wallpaper. Likewise, doesn't work well with Carousels.
- Transition Effects. We already have the Carousel. I don't think more are needed.
One more minor request to add to the list.
I currently have the small 4x1 (or is it 1x4?) Weather Widget on my screen. I find the display with the current weather + next 4 days kind of squished, so I'm currently using the one with the bar graph on the left. The graph is cute, but functionally useless.
Possible to make a Weather widget like it, but replace the bar graph with a battery meter to match the weather look?
Also - when I click on the Weather, perhaps shift over to the full pane weather panel?
Likewise, when I click on the small 4x1 Calendar, when I click it, maybe go to the full Calendar page (or at least an app of my choice).
Speed is still amazing on my Gingerbread/Sense rom on my HTC HD2. Going to test going back to a more stable Desire HD build & see how fast it is.
Don't know if anybody else has this problem but for me it is a very bothersome BUG. It will allow me to android widgets on any panel. However, when I reboot the phone, the android widgets disappear every time. I am running it on my rooted Evo with CM7 installed.
* A search funktion in the app drawer would be great.
* Multiselect for adding apps into a folder.
* At the weather forcast the CPU goes up to max...great if that could be reduced.
* Select multiple cities for the weather (panel and widget)
i cant even run the app lol i have a sprint hero running cm7 rc4. and its suppose to run on all 2.1 and up devices. they even say its for the hero. its really bugging me cause i've been wanting this since they announced it.

I'm using an Inspire and it runs fine. It does take literally 10 minutes to boot and "warm up", but its lighting fast after that. Been using it since the early test builds.
yeah i tried to open it but i just get a black scree. and then about 40 seconds later it just exits out to the previous screen i was on.

Assuming you mean the one with the picture of the person & a little button for dial and a button for sms - yes:
Add SPB Widget -> Favorite Contact (bottom right). Click the little + to add someone to the Contacts. Click the square on the far right to open up the folder. From this window you can drag your contact to the home screen. Click the green arrow on the contact to change the look to the one I mentioned (5 clicks).
waiting for the mods will be tough but I am trying my best to modify the look.

wrong thread
I have SPB shell 3D running on my Milestone. I am using the stock 2.1 rom. I couldn't get it to load on any of the 2.2 roms, but I didn't spend too much time investigating why. I have my Milestone overclocked to 900MHz with milestone overclock and have JIT enabled via openrecovery.
It runs quite well once it loads up. I used the "bulletproof launcher" script in this thread to keep the launcher from being closed, so far I have only had one or two crashes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
The gallery widget seems broken on my phone as well. The leftmost button loads a few random pictures, but the middle two buttons don't respond and the gallery launcher button does nothing, and then will put the phone into widget change/resize mode.
I find I didn't need any of my other widgets, but would probably use a good twitter/facebook aggregator. I haven't loaded pure messenger into it, but other android widgets appeared to work.
In 20 hours of uptime it has only used 5% of the battery, less than the phone being on standby, so I find it on par with Launcher Pro for battery use.
Hello, I install SPB shell 3D on my Motorola Defy and averything are running well, it's really the best interface. The only thing I would like to do is to display my own pictures in place of the one from Flickr, is someone find how to do that ?

I don't have a favorite contacts choice. The bottom right option is messaging for me. Do you have the market version installed or a beta?
Running on a 2.3 rom on htc desire and it works ok. Sometimes I have to reinstall app to get it to load. Contact widget doesn't show photos properly.

Ah ok I figured it out. This is really strange, you have to delete the default favorite contacts folder off the screen first. Then the option to add it as a widget appears. Really odd.

Issue With LauncherPro...

After trying several different launchers, LauncherPro was my favourite one which was near perfect.
It looks great, runs fast and is excellent on battery...
I have just one issue which is really bothering me and this launcher is the only one giving me this problem.
It's hard to explain the problem but it's an issue with the screen wallpaper. When setting a wallpaper, whether it be stock or your own, it will then appear to be zoomed in like crazy and appear blocky/blurry...
The only way to put the screen wallpaper back to normal is by switching your home screen to another then switching back.
However, when doing this the home screen wallpaper will eventually return to it's strange looking state.
Even when disabling screen scrolling or using wallpaper wizardrii the home screen wallpaper will still return the way it was before, zoomed in like crazy and will scroll even though it's been disabled.
This is a definate bug in the launcher but it seems I'm the only one getting this.
Anyone have any suggestions other than to change my launcher?
As stated before I really love this launcher and would like to resolve this problem.
Thanks.
I just found out how to take screenshots of my Note homescreen and will now show you a before and after pic, the second pic obviously looking strange...

try using a 3rd party gallery to set up ur walls. i used Quickpic (free from the market and a great galley browser too) to set up my wall using lp as launcher with no issues. Maybe that could help.

Hello
I do not have any problem between Launcher Pro and the wallpapers on my GS Note...
Are u using the free version of this launcher or the paid one (Launcher Pro PLUS 0.8.6 ?
The issue persists & it ONLY happens with some third party launchers but not the stock launcher.
The problem never occured with ADW Launcher EX or GO Launcher EX but happens with BOTH SPD Shell 3D & Launcher Pro.
Even when changing the screen from portrait to landscape the image zooms and scrolls then appears blocky.
Any suggestions as to why the screen wallpaper keeps doing this with these two bwowsers?
It's a shame as SPD Shell 3D & Launcher Pro are the ONLY launchers that run quickly and smoothly.
Both ADW Launcher & Go Launcher run slower and lag.
Why is launcher pro so bad on the note?????
Ive had LauncherPro for over one year on my Galaxy Tab. I was hoping it would work like butter on my new Galaxy Note, but no!!!!! Its never smooth and always jerky no matter every conceivable setting I try.. specially the app drawer.. its like a slow-motion lag lag lag movie!! Shocking I've tried different ROMs and there are no services in the background.. I cant comprehend.. the Galaxy Note has a dual CPU running at 1.4GHz versus the Galaxy Tab with a single core at 1Ghz (both running Gingerbread), yet, performance of LauncherPro on the Note is horrible.. its basically unusable.. anyone else has similar issues and is there a fix? This is so strange.. And Launcher Pro has been abandoned so developer doesn't even bother to reply to nay questions anymore.. I actually PAID for this software shortly after which development stopped... last time I ever buy any software for Android..
I am in the same boat. I paid money for LP, ADW Launcher and SPB. I tried 3 different roms: KKA stock, KL3 rooted and now Rocket Rom v.11. With EVERY custom launcher i have the same issue: when opening and closing the app drawer everything gets choppy and jerky. I really cannot understand why... Any hints or tips?
P.S.
I already tried to set transitions to fast in spare parts + but it did not helped.

Though hard to believe, there must be something SPECIFICALLY in the way graphics are handled and the way the graphics drivers resolve & perform specifically with the resources of the drawer open/close animation.. I cant comprehend as this is not a hardware or Gingerbread issue, this seems to be pinpointed an isolated matter with the Galaxy Note.. only Samsung and/or developers of the launchers can find a precise solution for this.. the OS is similar to hundreds of other hardware and the Galaxy Note's CPU & GPU processing is at the very top of most so, there is not a bottleneck there.. really strange but frustrating..
Yup, extremely frustrating, if someone has doubts, I will try to record on video the phenomenon to be able to prove and/or offer some starting point in solving the issue...

hmm what type of magic that this app do 2solve the problem? Too many negative reviews to try it.. I use QuickPic to set wallapers & hardly think that can be core of the performance problems..

Glad I'm not the only one having issues with launcher pro. I liked the app so much I bought it for my old HTC Desire, it worked great and I never had any issues. Trying to get it working on my Gnote has been problematic.
It loads, but as soon as I try to use the Launcher Pro calender widget it crashes and FC's. Happens every time. I'm using the paid version of the app on the Stock Gnote ROM with the over the air ICS upgrade. It's really annoying.
I've sent error reports and emailed the developer - but not had a reply as of yet. I'm wondering if development has been discontinued?

Check the last update date. Federico (the dev) has left the building, and he doesn't work on the launcher anymore. People have been waiting for an update for more than a year, but he keeps saying that he's busy with a re-write of LP. He said that like 14 months ago, so in other words; nothing is going to happen.
Install a new launcher and keep moving forward. LP is dead.
Launcher pro does'nt work well, and is not optimised for ics.

Ah. That's not good.
Do Google leave unmaintained apps in the PlayStore indefinitely? Seems like people could be paying for it - then after a couple of days realising there are bugs and nobody to fix them.

Lag

I've got tons of it. Anyone else. No, I will not root.
Where are you seeing the lag? Chrome isn't so hot for me, but otherwise no lag. There are some apps you can turn off without rooting. Maybe it would be worth going through the list of apps and turning off whatever you can that you don't think you will use and see if that helps at all.
Yeah, stay away from Chrome if you want it smooth. I always have lag/stutter with Samsung tablets when browsing with Chrome. Stock Android? Chrome is usually quite happy. Basically, the stock browser works much better with this tablet. Turning off apps always helps. Also give it a few days for everything to settle in and all the apps are installed/updated. Oh, and...reboot!
With that said, I have still seen some occasional and minor stutter when swiping down for the menu and maybe switching certain full-screen apps. Otherwise at this point, the stock launcher itself and overall experience is fairly smooth. Can't say that with most non-stock android tablets.
There is perhaps a one or two second delay in opening certain apps. Not sure if that's just the time it takes to kick it off or if they built in that delay to help prevent stutter. Either way, should still load most apps pretty quick.

Scrolling in Stock browser, especially in MW. Swiping homescreens, stock widgets taking few seconds to load. My note 3 has a lot of same issues. I just have very little patience to deal with it at this point. While this is better than anything out there, it is still unrefined.

I understand first adopters are beta testers of sorts, but this is a device that has been rumored for 2 years.
I do get lag at points but we kinda know this when we buy a tw device i dont think ive ever owned a non laggy tw device, however its not excessive and yes Chrome has become atrocious on most devices however this is the first release of the software and it normal gets better as its optimised
I highly recommend the Chrome Beta browser currently in the play store. Ive had nothing but smooth sailing browsing with it. Rendering is on par if not better than on the ipad....the stock chrome browser and samsung browser cant hold a candlestick to it...just tweak the settings prior to using and you will be browser heaven. I prefer chrome because of sync features with my computer and phone...its a no frills browser...but I think they did a wonderful job with the current beta version.

Chrome is indeed horrible on the 12.2. Jumpy and laggy. I've been using Dolphin, but the stock browser seems to be the smoothest. Still not an ipad, but quite decent.
I did try Chrome Beta and yes, it appears to be smoother with large complex pages, not an ipad either, but better than the normal Chrome on the 12.2
Chrome is absolutely fine on my Note 2 running Android HD ROM.
Maybe it's something to do with gpu rendering or ram management.
Looks like it's up to this fine community of modders to do Samsung's job for them. Again. For a change.

Chrome beta browser on my Note Pro has been whooping my ipad air safari browser IOS 7.1 Beta 5...I can only assume that mileage will vary by usage. I've always been a fan of Safari especially since the tab refreshes and crashes are somewhat nonexistent, however if I'm picking up a tablet strictly to browse, my Note Pro is my go to device now?
Of course I have Google Now Launcher installed and running, so maybe this is directly affecting my browsing in a positive way.

Even Sammobile hits the NotePro on the lag:

I agree with you 1000% I customized my own ROM and removed all the unnecessary bloat bogging this monster down.
Now I don't experience any lag whatsoever, especially after getting rid of "Touchwiz" and installing Nova Prime! Now thats money well spent. I also edited the build.prop file and changed my DPI settings from 320 to a nice 270.Now let's talk about having some real, real estate on this tablet. I can now get several widgets on just one home screen page and this sucker looks sweet and it screams performance without any slowdown, lag, whatsoever! This is what the manufacturer should have done in the begining.

A possible cause of heavy lag

Developing few themes I've found out what is one possible cause of the heavy lag (and with that I mean the phone gets unusable. Seconds without reactions) I can get since when I upgraded to Lollipop. In a simple word: themes.
That's 100% certified, I tested and retested it again. In more specific details at least in my case i discovered that if the Navigation bar button for exchanging keyboard isn't properly sized - and it will hardly be since the Sony Theme Creator is messy with those particular icons - the skinner may go banana.
There are other bugs as well (try to install the same theme over the current theme), but the one above is probably the most nasty. The obvious workaround is to apply a different theme (the plain, boring stock ones don't define any asset) and maybe reboot, but if you want to see a bit more in detail if something is wrong with your current theme do the following (requires root):
- Download the Theme Debugger
- Check the size of the keyboard button in the bottom right like in those picture (left is ok, right - which is a stock theme - is an example of things going wrong) :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
- Open Theme Debugger
- Click on the top left menu (3 dots) and choose "Restart System UI"
Now check the size of the keyboard button again. If it changes in size, like if it is too small or too big or if the landscape and portrait version do not match (they get stretched in one direction or the other) you most likely have the issue. Inform the theme developer (with a couple of screenshots) and on the meantime use a different theme. Oh, don't blame the developer, it's the skinner to be effed up.
I hope this helps!
or... You can discover that you have a crappy app called ROM ToolBox Pro which hasn't been updated in a year and with Lollipop it went banana and set the at boot the minfree values to a ridiculously low value. The ugly thing is that there is a sort of "bug" with the minfree in Lollipop (at least with the SnapDragon 400, the Moto G has the same issue), the file
Code:
/sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
is write only (permissions "--w--w----" instead of -rw-r---r--") so the app above couldn't read the minfree values but it did write them (discovered enabling the full log in SuperSU).
Still the thing about the themes partially applies. With low minfree values the skinner did crash in the situation mentioned. Also if one updates the active theme (as in installs a new version over it) after the reboot the theme has gone (but it shows as if it was selected). Hopefully we'll get an update fixing all these little annoying issues (plus the GPS and camera fixes, sure).
Can i set rwrr for minfree?

Sure, you can play with the minfree as much as you like. They are volatile files, they get recreated after each reboot (so if it gets stuck just restart the phone). Which also means that if you want to make any modification permanent you should add it in a /etc/init.d script.
Apparently I fixed once for all the lag that has been infesting my phone for months. Other than the couple of things I already mentioned (and yes, the wrong minfree was simply a nightmare), what made it more constantly fluid now has been the following: In settings do:
Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Store, Clear data and Clear cache
Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services > Manage space, Clear all data and Clear cache
I used that as a suggestion for installing FaceBook returning error 504 (but I've found out that what really fixed the FB installation was to uninstall FB Messenger. What a piece of junk) and no, it isn't placebo effect, I waited few days to be sure. Also apparently the 787 Mhz went from a 50-50 with the 1190Mhz to a 70-30.
Oh well, I just thought could be useful to share!
Hi !
In Lollipop When the brightness is more than 25% phone starts lagging
When the phone is connected to a charger or computer is not Lag phone!
I got Repair Pc companion! But the phone's lag !
This problem can be solved???
It depends on what you define as lag at this point. If you followed this thread you see that it took me months to get a rid of the lag on my phone. Yet if after repairing the phone with PC Companion it's still lagging, either your phone is damaged or you're too much lag sensitive.

I am quite sure the ROM has nothing to do with it. Still I'm using the Custom IT version, which is the one of my phone.
But if after a repair with PC Companion, no apps, no data your phone really lags most likely you have an HW issue. Try to see if taking out the SIM and SD cards it still lags. If the phone really lags changing the brightness it may be damaged.
Then if your lag is just some nearly imperceptible micro stuttering.. deal with it. That can be normal.
I just tried to be on the phone while brightness is on 100%, and I must say it is lagging for me too.
It is not some brutal lag or idk, but it is noticeable.
Check the recording:

As seen it is not something major, but it can be noticed lol.

The problem is that the video on my laptop lags by itself, it fries the CPU. I tried to watch it on PS3 and on my television and the codecs aren't recognized. You need a better screen recorder.
Still even with the lag induced by the player it didn't seem that bad, the apps were opening quite fast. Then it's an Xperia M2, we can't expect the performances of an Xperia Z5 (and let's forget an iPhone 6S ). Also you had to show the difference with brightness at zero to compare.
In any case, when I wrote heavy lag I meant that with the wrong minfree values I was waiting even a minute to open certain apps. That was absurd indeed. Fixed that I still had some lag, like when unlocking the screen. The sequence was jumping. Or the keyboard could take ages to load (it still does it sometimes, but not that bad). Clearing the Google Play Service data fixed that as well. But the micro stuttering when scrolling has been there since ever, KitKat included. No matter the brightness, at least on my phone. I just triple checked it now, maybe it's an optical effect. Being higher the brightness the lags gets more more evident, I don't know
Yeah, I am checking it again with brightness zero. Scrolling the home drawer's panels it micro stutters. I'm so used to it that I don't even consider it lag. Well, at least that's me.

Actually I have the same question. I've checked a bit around few days ago and in Google Play they are all getting not excellent reviews. At least the ones I've seen. Which is annoying becauseI've read the Z3 (and above, I suppose) has one made by Sony, integrated in the ROM (it was for KitKat, not sure if it went to Lollipop as well). So if you ever find a good one. please let me know.

Here check this out: https://youtu.be/j5WYd28rhi4
I installed the highest rated app "Telecine" and I must say I have never recorded a smoother video of my phone.
It was smoother than the actuall use xD
But it kinda lacks some features, like saving location etc.
Anyways here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jakewharton.telecine :good:
EDIT: After testing a few apps, I am thinking between AZ Screen Recorder (which I used before, and after enabling 60fps in settings recording is smooth as in Telecine) and Telecine.
AZ Screen Recorder is packed with all features, but I need to do some more testing. Here: https://youtu.be/64xyaASGO9M - This is a recording with default resolution and 60fps. It is smooth, really smooth.
And this is a recording in 720p, also 60fps: https://youtu.be/t_XS3ZZFZkE - Tell me if there is some difference, because I dont see it.
Altough, Telecine is simple as f***, it lacks some features.
So check those two of course.
@junk031 we are vastly off topic, but whatever...
So I checked the two video players. Telecine is quite limited and then it started crashing. I removed it immediately. AZ Recorder seems good. I liked the option to change the audio track. Too bad that it doesn't work. Unless it doesn't like my AAC format. But it did play it on the preview (just the audio).
Anyway, the most important thing is that I can play the recorded videos from my laptop without it frying. So I can do any editing from it. As I always do anyway, I hate to operate from the phone!!

Samsung’s Good Lock app is a powerful lockscreen for your Galaxy S7 Edge

Bored of the default lock screen on Android devices, and specifically the one on your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge? Samsung thinks you could do with a more powerful lock screen and has launched an app called Good Lock on the Galaxy Apps store. Supported on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, Good Lock puts a ton of functionality right on your lock screen and notifications area.
From being able to keep some notifications in the notification shade for as long as you want to putting widgets on the lock screen for quick access, Good Lock offers a lot of features. It even replaces the notification shade with an interface straight from stock Android – a sign maybe that TouchWiz will one day be closer to Google’s version of Android (the removal of Samsung’s default music player from the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is a big example of that possibility).
In fact, if Samsung does remove the app drawer from future iterations of TouchWiz, putting widgets and other advanced functionality on the lock screen would make sense, though whether Good Lock is truly useful in its current state depends on how keen you are on playing around with such customization. Good Lock is only available in the US for now, but we have the APK available for download for anyone who wants to try it out. There’s quite a lot inside Good Lock, and we’re currently testing it out for a full review.
Grab Good Lock from the Galaxy Apps store if you’re in the US or from the link below. In case you want to uninstall the app, you will have to head into its settings and hit the uninstall button as Good Lock replaces the entire lock screen and notification systems and can’t be removed like a regular app.
Download Good Lock APK

Wonder what Samsung is up to... this smells iOS blur and look at all these icons in the "preview" images, completely redesigned. Is it a glimpse of the new TouchWiz perhaps? Time will tell
This is a totally unexpected move and it has some quirks but gets me excited for the direction Samsung is going. So happy
Mike installed just fine and rebooted. It worked for some time, but then it needed to reboot again and it was uninstalled. Can this be because I'm not in the US?
I'm using this now. There are things I like and things I don't, and things that I don't find useful at all. But the notification handling is a major improvement over current Marshmallow (Touchwiz or otherwize).
One major improvement, for me: I have a Tasker profile for home that, under Lollipop, turns off my lockscreen completely when I'm at home. Just push the power button or home button and I go directly to my home screen. No fingerprint, no pin, no swipe. Real handy. But it stopped working on the Edge with Marshmallow.
With Good Lock, the profile works correctly again!
Nice move from Samsung. I installed it and customized, I moved all the shortcuts from the LS and added a Weather Timeline Widget to quickly check the weather. The notification bar looks more like stock Android but I don't like the recent apps at all. I really like to take a quick glance on what showed on apps I recently used.
Is there a way to change that purple notification pull down to a different color?

Yes. Go to the Routines settings and then Default and change.
a short video showcasing it's features.
Any way this can be ported down to Lollipop?
Is there a way to remove widgets, once added to the hidden widget area?
It keeps telling me to turn on Location Services. Does anyone know how to disable that annoying pop-up?
Anybody notice Multitasking has been changed also. Wow what a change. I do prefer a preview of my aps
I liked it, but it's too early days for me to use as daily driver. It kept resetting the settings so was useless. I'm very interested to see where this goes though...
EDIT: nevermind... I had the default plus other routines thing messed up. Back in business.
Only thing I don't like now is the completely lack of color consistency going on between my Touchwiz theme and this Lockscreen stuff.
I've installed this on my S7 edge this morning and I'm pretty surprised that it changes the UI quite a bit, some of it I like and some I don't, there's still plenty of room for development but I think I will stick with it for a few days for now.
My mine gripe is the colour scheme is very inconsistent, I have changed the base colour but the shade seems off...
It is a mess. A nasty mess that should be killed with fire.
It would be pretty great if the location issues could be settled. The creating routine thing is a bit silly, but I'm loving the AOSP look and what not

Plusses and minuses, positives and negatives.....
I LOVE the notification handling. So superior to everything else it's not even close. I'd pay plenty for an app that brought these capabilities to my phone.
The fingerprint scanner is WAY faster now. Essentially instantaneous.
I hate the loss of the regular Samsung settings toggles and the ability to customize the toggles that are shown. Standard Android is a giant step backwards here. Fewer toggles, and no choice as to what ones are shown: how can anyone consider that an improvement? Only Googlely fan-boys who think any that comes out of Google is automatically superior.
I've come to like the recent apps screen, although the animation is a bit much. With "stock" Android, you can only fully see the one card at a time, and after a few days the stack of cards is so long it's a nightmare to find anything. It's actually easier to recognize an app icon than the glimpse of a screenshot as you scroll through cards, and I can find what I'm looking for faster with this approach than with cards..
On screen widgets are, yet again, stupidly implemented. Let me put a widget ON THE LOCK SCREEN, not on a hidden screen that I need to scroll to. With a fingerprint scanner it's easier to unlock the phone than to display a hidden lock screen. I'm not using this option at all. (Widget Locker got this right 4 or 5 years ago, but sadly doesn't seem to work on Marshmallow. Why can't Google and Samsung figure this out?)
On screen apps aren't quite as useless. You can swipe on an icon, then use the fingerprint scanner to open it, but it's at least as easy, and probably faster, to just use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone. And I'm not sure why a tap on the icon forces you to use a pin, while a swipe lets you use the scanner. Why not default to the scanner on a tap, too? It would be nice if you could open these apps without unlocking the phone, but be locked out of anything BUT that app (sort of like pinning). Again, Widget Locker got this right.
In spite of what some seem to think, the color scheme can be modified, and made pretty neutral and reasonable in settings. I'd like more granular control, but what's there is tolerable. You can also set your own lockscreen wallpaper.
On balance, I like it. It's clearly a work in progress, but notification handling alone is worth it.
Unfortunately, I've had to uninstall it. It's too buggy to be my daily driver. The home button doesn't always work, sometimes requiring two taps, occasionally not working at all. Sometimes tapping on a notification doesn't do anything at all. But when it works, the notification capabilities are brilliant, Brilliant, I say! I'm already missing it.
Samsung Rep^
Hey guys i got a bug since it has uninstalled by itself... Now my lockscreen is all black. I can't even see the shortcuts, but if i go to the settings the phone says that i got a wallpaper already set. Is there anyone with the same bug?
Sorry for my bad english
