Poor quality on camera?

I experience poor picture quality on the pictures i take with stock app. I come from a Nexus 5 wich is recognized as having a poor camera and i had better picture on the Nexus. The picture is grainy in both light and dark environment. Colours is washed out. I use the hdr on auto. Resolution on the highest or the one below. I am comparing the pictures on the computer.
What is your experience with the camera?
Any tip to improve the pictures i take?

Outdoor photos with good light should not be grainy.try to focus better .indoor photos with low light are indeed a little grainy . try and experiment more in different light conditions . the camera is not top notch but for casual photos is ok. You need to spend some time with the camera to get used to it. It is the same camera as lg g3 maybe you can find more info in lg g3 thread.

Do you take pictures zoomed in? Under normal conditions and in the daylight the pictures shouldn't be grainy at all. In fact, I quite like them actually. IMHO best of all phones I've had in the past (see my sig) and it even takes usable pictures in almost total darkness (full moon, no flash).
I don't like the camera app, but that's a different story.
Thanks for your reply.
Do you use hdr or do you avoid it?

I left it to "Auto". IMHO it's quite smart and turns out better pics. Generally.

As a G2 owner, I used my GF's GF2 to death when on holiday in Vegas for a week. The speed of the laser focus blew away my G2 in good lighting conditions but repeatedly failed to focus correctly in low light conditions. The G2 would take an age to focus but tended to get in right and produce good shots.
We tested this theory with both HDR and non HDR and the results were always the same.
If I was after a new phone and photography was really important to me, I'd go for the G4 or Nexus 6P. The GF's GF2 was using 5.1.1 so no excuses for the poor low light performance due to out of date firmware.
Damn, that's a pretty good photo. I almost never use my camera, so I don't have any cool photos yet.
Photo is attached
takes really good photos but with good light
if the object is near, focus is horrible

blocky image when taking night/dark photos

Anyone else seeing distorted/blocky spots in dark areas when taking photos at night w/o flash?
That should be normal. In photography, they make lens with larger aperture for taking picture in the dark or make film with higher ISO. The higher ISO, the more grainy you get. You phone don't have the luxury of changing faster lens so they have settings for higher ISO. Therefore, your image is not at best.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Nokia 6 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

The 16 mp cam is good but id say its not that great, lacks manual Control however VSCO edits give me some relief, where as the selfie cam is very bad and im very disappointed! Like I still look ugly on the front cam and VSCO cant do anything about it either where as my last phone managed to give better saturation at 5 mp! THE 8mp on Nokia6 is terrible! Is it just me?
I've read about this a month ago: reddit. com/r/Nokia/comments/6ti8ik/installed_the_new_google_camera_apk_with_hdr_on/
I've done it on my phone and surprisingly, it does improve photos quality a little bit.
Coming from lumia phones,I would say hugely disappointing camera.I miss my old lumias so much more once again. With years of use I am so familiar with nokia pro cam app and extraordinary pictures,it feels like this is not even a nokia camera.
Trust me I am not comparing top end lumias with pureview and zeiss lenses.Cheapest lumias like 630 with 5mp camera (no pureview,no zeiss,no flash) outperforms it by a great margin.
Yellow photos are extremely annoying but it vastly improved after oreo.Gcam from xda gives good results as well.
Personally i feel, the hardware is not so bad but the software is not using it properly. Some half decent shots I have managed to take with it.
Hdr on.Rest all are auto mode Flash off.

No it is a fact. You are absolutely right.A 5mp camera of dirt cheap lumia 630 outperforms it in every aspect.I am not even trying to compare it with even mid range lumias.
depends on the lighting imo, outdoors by day photos don't like bad. indoors with room lighting photos can be blurry and pixelated
pretty disappointed in the camera as well, i've seen better results on a lower px chinese phone cameras
as can be seen from these two images, one is without flash and the other is with flash
here is a short clip demonstrating camera outdoors by day, picture quality is the same as in the video

Can any specify the aperture size of rear camera??

How necessary is a telephoto camera?

I am wavering between buying an s10e or an s10. In favor of the s10e: I prefer the size of the device and I like that there is a slight bezel on the left and right of the screen. However, it doesn't have the telephoto camera. I found that zoomed photos with the telephoto on the s10 are quite a bit sharper. On the other hand, I seriously dislike the s10's infinity screen. It warps the egdes of photos, web pages, etc. So, it comes down to how much advantage the telephoto camera provides. If it's not so important, I'd opt for the s10e. I'd like to see some opinions about the necessity for the telephoto. BTW, I realize the P30 has 3 cameras and a flat screen, but it's not the horse I want to ride - no wireless charging, no IP68, so-so sound, probably even worse at updates the Sammy.
All depends what you want.
Yes, a dedicated zoom camera makes better zoom photos.
But, even with image stabilization it is harder to get good shots that are not blurry. I never used zoom on a phone. But i can tell you that since i have the S10e i do mostly 2 photos with the standard cam and than with wide angle. Wide angle does interesting photos.
It is good to have
I don't take photos all too frequently, and when I do I never use zoom. It degrades the quality of the image quite a bit, be it optical or digital.
Since asking this question, I took time at a local store to play with the 10 and 10e. I set both to 8x zoom, since that is the max zoom for the 10e. There is quite a noticeable difference. The 10e had lot of noise and the 10 didn't. In fact, at 10x, the 10 still had a clearer image than the 10e. Now, if I could just come to terms with the curved screen and the weird edge reflections.
Not at all to me but i wish samsung went for the same wide angle lens on huawei mate 20 pro, usable in close up shots and gets amazing photos.

I don't think it's that necessary... When you get 5x or 10x optical then it's cool, but 2x nah... I think the ultrawide is more fun
Getting a 10e here. But wondering how much worse the live focus will be without the Tele lens. Anyone have the experience?
