Who's getting the galaxy s6 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was wondering who was jumping ship to get an s6. I wanna upgrade but I don't know what phone to get. I want a phone that has a lot of XDA support. What are your thoughts?

Everyone is

Just you then......

Why do you want to upgrade ? Does it arise from Nexus 5's inefficiency ?

I see no reason to upgrade at the moment. I'll be waiting for the Oneplus Two or the Nexus 5 (2015) or the Nexus 6 (2015), depending on which has the best battery life, amongst other things (they'll all have great dev support). My Nexus 5 is perfectly adequate for the time being.

I think the S6 is just another iphonie!

S6 is going to be locked down, hard to root, hard to mod BC of stupid touchwiz.

I ordered a S6 Edge 64GB. ? But I'm still keeping my N5. After a new battery install, the phone is great again.
But my S4 is gonna be retired now. ?

Help me decide my next Android purchase

Now... I've been wanting a Nexus 7 ever since it was announced, but only now that I can afford one.
But now I see I've got a chance to buy a 16gb Nexus 4.
I was planning on continuing to use my Nexus S as it totally rocks running CM10.1 and using the Nexus 7 for browsing the web around the house and playing games.
If I would buy the Nexus 4 I would obviously not afford the Nexus 7 for a while. But the Nexus 4 is such a sexy piece of hardware and it has a much better camera than the Nexus S and I've got a baby on the way and I would love to be able to take good pictures and HD videos of my little ones.

Nexus 4 ftw nexus 7 doesn't have a rear facing camera and the glass is extremely fragile ... Go have a look at the nexus 7 general section where people are complaining about their nexus 7 glass cracking for no reasons

Really tough one, but go with the Nexus 4. Carrying two devices at the same time is real pain in that part of the body .
I vote for Nexus 4 as well.
Wow... no love for the larger screen of the Nexus 7?
Granted, I use my Nexus S for reading, checking facebook, Pulse News, Flipboard etc. I often wish for a larger screen, but I might just be fine with 4,7 inches.

Yes, and it looks awesome. But I just don't want a 10 inch tablet. Too big in my opinion.

Just go with a Nexus 4.
Nexus 4!
But honestly if i got the money i'll save it 'til Nexus 5 arrives, or until nexus s completely loses support from all devs
Nexus s+7 too many reported issues for the n4. I'd actually choose gn or gn2 over n4. Reports issues: fragile, overheating, and cracking around speaker.

Much more support for the Nexus 4, but the few comments for the Nexus 7 do keep me going both ways...
I´ll tell you one thing that might change the odds a little...
I am in Iceland... A 16gb Nexus 4 is 99.900 ISK = 775 USD. A 32gb Nexus 7 is 59.900 ISK = 465 USD.

Ouch! That's just about the same here in Manila. Woe for us non-Play Store countries.
Nexus 4 FTW!!!. People have been complaining about the Nexus 7 lagging on games. (Not sure about that. My friend bought one from Hong Kong and said it lags sometimes) The glass on the N7 is also really fragile IMO. Good thing you can get it at a Google Play rate, in Singapore, it is about $USD465.

Wow, that's a serious ripp-off for N4 in Iceland. I would not buy it for that kind of money.
In Croatia, N7 32GB is around 365$, that is also kinda high for our standard, but yet it's more affordable than Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" and Apple iPad Mini. N4 is unavailable and probably won't hit the stores until late spring.
No hardware in Croatian Play Store in either...

Hy there, for the past 5 months i have been using a combination of nexus s as a phone for when i am out and a nexus 7 for where i am at home. And i must say that this combimation really works. When i am out i don't necessarily need the greatest performance for gaming and simmilar but i appreciate the form factor of my nexus s. But when i am at home i have my nexus 7 for gaming and multimedia. I must say that the performance of nexus 7 on the latest games is very good with an appropriate rom and kernel. If you still like your phone like i do, then i would recommend going with two device combo(weak phone+tablet) rather than one extra powerful phone. And on the battery side of things as i primarily use my tablet at home and i have my phone in a dock whenever i go out, my phone battery is always charged as opposed if i had just the phone and would be using it at home

If you didn't have a tablet before, go for the Nexus 4.
If you did have a tablet before, go for the Nexus 4.
If you get tortured by your neighbor, go for the Nexus 4.
If you like sitting on the toilet for 2.4820 hours, go for the Nexus 4.
If you do(n't) sound familiar with the above lines, go for the Nexus 4.
I'm actually swaying toward the NS+N7 combo.
I'm seeing a lot of threads about issues with the N4. I'm not the type who has to have the newest gadgets so I think I might just wait until most of the issues with it have been resolved and then it might have reduced in price a bit here in Iceland.

i would prefer nexus 4.. for the incoming baby maybe you should get a digital cam/recorder because it has better image quality than the smartphones..

Thinking about

Trading my note 3 for a nexus 5 maybe galaxy s4 or 5
The novelty of a huge screen has worn off. Touchwiz is good but I don't use its features. I haven't had a nexus since galaxy nexus.
Is it worth it?

If you decide to trade for a S4 or a N5 then make sure to get cash with the trade. I personally came from the Note 3 & traded for a (brand new at the time) 32gb black N5 still in plastic, plus $150 cash & never looked back.

Imo HTC M8 > S5 by far. The N5 is the cheaper option but still a strong phone.
In the end it is you who needs to make the decision and who's gonna use the phone try to think about it for yourself, go in stores to try some phones. Whatever others on XDA or anywhere may say, the point here is that you get a phone that makes you happy, and only you know which one that is

[Q] Buy Nexus 5 or wait for 6?

I am planning to buy a new android phone and shortlisted Nexus 5 and Xperia ZR. I think Nexus 5 would be a better choice because of its large development support but question in my mind is "Is it worth waiting for Nexus 6?". There is no fixed date for Nexus 6 but hopefully it will be announced in Q4 of this year. Please suggest, should i buy nexus 5 or wait for nexus 6? Is it worth waiting for?
From my research cons of nexus 5 that i don't want to get with are: Battery life and Camera. And both of these might get upgraded in Nexus 6.
Thanks in advance.
We don't even know if there will be a 6. The rumour mill says not. Its an impossible question

Google confirmed that the nexus program isn't going anywhere. There probably will be a successor to the nexus 5,it would only make sense since android L supports 64 bit, maybe even put more than 3gb. Who knows, it's all speculation

Afaik google only confirmed the nexus tablet range. But as we both said it's all speculation so it would be ridiculous to try and base any purchasing decision on an unknown future.

Should i go for nexus 5 then? The thing that is making me worried about nexus is its battery, is there any way i can fix it?
Or i should go for something else?
The battery is fine. Go for what you want. Read reviews. Its pretty old now. Only 9 months left of updates.

Note 4 to Nexus 5 to Nexus 6

Okay so I got the note 4 a couple of days ago but I seriously can't take the freaking lag nothing runs smooth on this phone my nexus 4 that I'm coming from is waaaay faster at everything, luckily I'm still within my two weeks and I was thinking of trading in my note for a nexus 5 and then once the nexus 6 comes out switching over that. What are some of your guys opinions of this?

Why even get the Nexus 5 if you are going to switch to the Nexus 6 so soon? That makes no sense. One or the other.
Because I have no other phone and I don't want to keep this phone longer the reason I would switch is because the n5 is cheap and would be a good replacement for a month
How are you planning on trading devices on Craigslist?

No way note 4 laggs. Played with one for a bit. No way.
I had a Note 3 and it had almost no lag, so I highly doubt the Note 4 lags much if at all. Doing all this phone trading will leave you out of pocket, just settle on one phone and keep it.

Iphone 6s plus

Just curious to know if anyone who currently owns a note 5 is returning it for the 6s?
what drove you to this decision if so?
Man, I cannot imagine why anyone would do that. This phone is so vastly superior.

This review favors the Note, but man it doesn't even begin to outline the difference in capabilities. This thing is a productivity pro! The split screen stuff, 8 cores, massive RAM, scrolling screen shots, 2000+ pressure sensitivities, note-taking from screen nearly off, etc... Just amazing.
I own the Note 5 and will be owning the 6S Plus since they both have Nano Sims and easy sim swapping for the monthly bill of one phone

I want root too...but pure Android? Hell no. Pure Android is like Vanilla ice cream without all the nice toppings and flavoring drizzled on top. The first thing I usually do when I root a new Android phone is to install a custom ROM with unique or interesting features or customization options. I'm more of a power user, so the minimalistic approach seems insanely boring to me, especially if it's on a phone with high specs like this one, which could be able to handle some additional workload/features.
thanks for the replies, ill be keeping my note 5 as well. Maybe purchase the 6s as a second phone to play with in time!
What's the point of a second phone? What can the 6s do that you'd be unable to do with this phone?

There's more than just capabilities.
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
I had the 6 plus for about 2 months and like my Note 5 way more. I can't imagine the 6s plus is much of an improvement. Definitely not enough to go back to iOS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0b-FcR5KD8 cracked open apple iphone 6s
I have both phone (for work) and I can say the Note 5 is more for power user...those that want to customized their home screen, tweak settings. The iphone 6s plus is just as good though... I'm not going to knock it. It has a good camera...I use it for social media app and tons of games.
Like others my wife has an iphone 6s plus. I had the choice to switch to the 6s plus also but decided to stay with the Note 5. The S-pen is a big draw for me. I find I use the S-pen more than my finger. It gives me a lot more control then my finger does especially when using calendar applications such as Pocket Informant
I also find that the note 5 is extremely fast and shows no sign of any sort of lag. Keep in mind I am using package disabler Pro to turn off software or bloatware that I don't need.
Just the fact that I have the option to disable bloatware or programs that I don't use or want is a reason for me to stay with the Note 5 over the iPhone 6 plus.
The only disappointment I have with the note 5 is the aggressive memory management. I have no idea if Samsung plans to fix this or not. I really hate how the bootloader is locked down on this Verizon version and therefore I can't make a simple change that would fix the problem. If the bootloader was unlocked on the Verizon note 5 it would be hands down the best Android device I have ever used.
