OTA not working - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have CM 12 Nightly installed on my OPO. The build is "12-20150310-NIGHTLY-bacon" Every night i receive update notification and i download them OTA. After its done downloading it prompts to install/restart. So I do that and it boots into my TWRP. And thats it. Nothing happens.
So next I manually reboot into system and i check for my current cm version and it always stays the same "12-20150310-NIGHTLY-bacon". I never changes.
Q1. Am i doing something wrong?
Q2. Should I manually download the rom file from cm and flash it manually using TWRP?
Q3. If i manually download and flash (without wiping cache, dalvik, system etc.) will my rom just update and keep all my contacts messages apps etc?
Thanks in advance for your kind response

I have the same problem. If you want to see the error select the option that's selected in the screenshot.
The only solution that I've found it's to make wipes: Dalvik cache, Cache and Data (DON'T WIPE internal storage, system, usb otg) and then install the ROM in the recovery

Yes bro i did check it before. I get the same error as yours.
Now my question is If i manually download latest rom in my pc, then transfer it to my phone and manually flash it from TWRM without wiping anything, will it erase all my apps contacts and sms?
Any idea or are you searching for that too?

No but I've tried it before and the phone never finishes to update. When it restarts the screen stuck at "Finishing boot" and I have to do wipes again :'/

Install cyandelta from play store and use that..its highly efficient. Best part is.. It only updates the incremental update.. Hence it saves your time and data package...

Yup! It's flashable with ClockworkMod Recovery...just flash it like any other flashable ZIP.
Okay so I backed up the stock ROM, installed ROM from SD and said Wipe Data and Cache. It rebooted, I had to setup the google account again, but in the settings it still shows version 2.2.2. Maybe I should do a manual wipe?

That auto wipe that pops up has never worked right for some reason. Do it manually when youre in recovery- wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
also do the update through recovery manually.
I've only flashed roms after downloading them through Rom manager, never had to boot into recovery. Is there a good video anyone can recommend on how to do this?
Here's a link to the wiki to assist with installing.
HTH
Ok so I wiped it manually and installed the rom. Make sure you put the rom onto external SD partition because in recovery mode you wont be able to access the internal SD.
So far looks like the basic functionality is working. I had a lot of force closes and the reported battery voltage is wrong, shows 3mV instead of 3000. As for battery life I'll report back tomorrow.

[Q] Updating ROM via GooManager

Hi All,
I have posted this on the GooManager thread but there hasn't been much activity there recently so asking here as well. Noob question on GooManager...I have the AOKP rom installed on my Sensation and GooManager notifies me of updates to my ROM every now and then. I just want to know if updating my ROM build with GooManager will reset all my custom ROM settings and preferences or will they all be preserved? I'd like to keep my ROM up to date but if it means spending all the time again to setup my preferences and icons/widgets/home screens etc. then I'd rather stick with what I have.
TIA!
I'd recommend to use GooManager only to download the newest ROM and flash it from recovery.
I asume you're using AOKP Swagger from frankenstine, the same I use.
I just download the update from GooManager, boot to recovery, flash ROM, gapps and 4.2 stuff and are ready to go.
All my settings are their after updating - only AdAway needs a reconfiguration and a reboot (and I need to set my alarm clock since I'm overwriting that). Basically you keep all your settings except those you made to the kernel.
Regards

Oh perfect, yes indeed I am using that exact ROM.
OK so when I boot to recovery, I shouldn't do any wiping? Just simply flash the new file? Will the updated gapps package be in the download I get from GooManager?

I only wipe dalvik & cache after each update.
I can't say something about what GooManager downloads as "gapps", I use some I downloaded some weeks ago + some old version of 4.2 stuff. I might need to update my flash-setup too

Thanks lolmachine, for the benefit of anyone who might have the same question as me the following worked:
- Downloaded latest build of my AOKP Rom via GooManager
- Downloaded latest gapps package for my ROM via GooManager
- Boot to Recovery
- Flash new ROM file and then gapps package
- Restart.
My only question is, I didn't wipe davlik and cache so should I, and what difference does it make if I don't?
I used Goo the other day to flash, ummm, bugger, can't remember if it was an update or a new rom.
Oh now I remember, the latest one was an update to Bruce's Rom. I do believe when I tapped flash rom it booted to recovery (the one it installs) and I may have had to select "Install" from there, don't think so though. Either way, I used Goo to handle the install.
I didn't do a wipe. From what I've picked up, wiping is a good way to cover your butt. So if you're having issues and didn't wipe, you go back and do it all again with a wipe. Doing the wipe to start with means you can eliminate those types of issues from the start.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am )
Hi there, I also received an update to my ROM via Goo Manager. It is CyanogenMod 10.1 by Albinoman887 for my HTC Sensation XE. I am using the EXT4 bootloader. I just installed it a few nights ago so I am completely new to rooting. My question is that there is no option to wipe dalvik cach. EXT4 just says wipe cache, wipe data and wipe system. Does wipe cache wipe dalvik cache as well. Also do I need to re-flash gapps as well after updating and will this wipe my gmail accounts etc?
Thanks,
Adam

You want to select "wipe dalvik+cache" option when you flash an update.
There's no need to flash gapps after a ROM update.

Simple.
Go to recovery.
For s-on you must enable smartflash.
Do a nandroid backup.
Dirty flash the update (meaning flash over the previous rom without wiping).
Dirty flash gapps (signed only).
Wipe cache + dalvik.
Reboot.
If it can't boot/run properly then you can just restore the backup or do a clean flash.
First off I'm not experienced in any way, got my Sensation unlocked, rootet and installed Sultanxda's 4.4.2 ROM for sensation. I'm on S-On, too, if anyone wonders.
Updating didnt affect my apps as far as I can tell. Everything seems to be the way as before and everything seems to be working.
What I did was download the ROM manually since the download with goomanager didn't work. I downloaded gapps as backup because I didnt have the zip on my SD, just in case anything would go wrong.
You only need to boot into recovery, with S-On make sure smartflashing or something like that is on, select the zip, flash it and then select wipe cache +dalvik.
It's pretty much what AndroidSupporter318 wrote, just wanted to give feedback and say what I did in detail in case anyone was still wondering.

I guaranted 4EXT Recovery for this type of problem. U don't need to boot into recovery and work with 4ext is very simple.

[Q] Problem after flashing the new OnePlus Official Lollipop ROM

Hi,
I rooted my OPO a few days ago and installed the unofficial CM12 Lollipop based build using TWRP and everything worked just fine.
Now a few hours ago I downloaded OnePlus' official Lollipop ROM and flashed the recovery after wiping data, cache and dalvik cache. Having done so and booted the phone I went back to recovery to flash Gapps only to realize TWRP wasn't available anymore. The screen showed android's recovery interface with touch disabled. I attempted to install Gapps after copying that to the phone's memory but failed to do so.
When I scroll down using the volume rocker and attempt to "apply update from sdcard" I get an error message saying:
"E:error opening /data/media/0: Permission denied
-- No package file selected. "
Now without Gapps I do not have access to Google Play Services, sync, backup of contacts or even the Play Store.
I tried rooting the phone again, flashing TWRP etc. But no matter how many times I try the phone just won't show TWRP in recovery
So now I'm stuck with a phone without any Gapps and no Play Store from which to download even the most basic apps. APKs can't be installed either because there's no app to open them.
Can anyone help me please?
What Official Lolipop ROM ? Maybe ask in the appropriate ROM thread ?

The one OP posted on their site:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/rom-official-5-0-android-lollipop-alpha.223252/
To the OP, reflash TWRP and then flash the GApps again
Are you able to access the phone through ADB or FASTBOOT?

You'll have to install TWRP again using fastboot.
I did the same as you. I used one of the toolkits it can be done quite easily just take your time. You can actually Google Play store apk in the browser and install it.
I'd just open developer options enable debugging and plug the phone in your PC and allow drivers to install.
Then download one of the toolkits and install TWRP your bootloader should still be unlocked.
Once I found the toolkit the other night and installed it I was up and running in minutes.
Solved
Thank you all for the swift replies. I tried flashing TWRP multiple times but couldn't get it done. Then I chanced upon this link in another thread.
account[.]onepluscontent[.]com/downloads/tools/oneplus-one-reflash[.]zip
It's a zip file from OnePlus which when extracted will give you drivers (I didn't need them) and a ReadMe file that explains how to get the OPO back to just the way it was when you unboxed it. It's incredibly simple and hardly takes any time. After that I was able to easily flash TWRP and root the phone.

Well done.
I know you will note the ROM you flashed is an Alpha ROM. So though 'official', is still very new, as the OP advised.
Fresh ROMs can be a lot of fun to bug hunt, and a lot of time to work through, until the components are ripe, when they have heightened depth, balance, finesse, intensity and end, where the ROM has become pure, vibrant, opulent and mature; a ROM that is seamless.
The dream.

Did you unmount system before installing?
Save time and flash to stock CM11S
For anybody that is stuck in this situation as I was too. Just load the stock CM11S and perform this through fastboot.
Example >fastboot update cm-11.0-XNPH44S-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip

Error Flashing Gapps :status 7 error.

So I'm trying to upgrade my Xperia L C2104(Version -4.2.2,Build number 15.3.A.1.1.7) to CyanogenMod 12.1 It's on stock ROM ,rooted and BL unlocked. I installed Philz Touch recovery using Recovery installer app. While flashing the ROM zip it shows no errors, but flashing Gapps get terminated without completion. It shows ' Installation aborted, status 7 ' . I did wipe data, cache and everything beforehand. Also tried flashing Gapps zip couple of times with no success .Always the same error. I restored Nandroid backup and got back to the original state.Phew! It is such a life saver!
So what am I doing wrong?
I'm new to all these, so please bear the noobiness and help with simple instructions!

Well I tried flashing it using twrp and it didn't work either.

I used twrp 2.7.1.0 . Installed it using the app mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-installer-t3187915/post62536810#post62536810
Well I tried again with the latest 12.1 nightly ROM (the one released on 2016-08-07) and gapps for 5.1 . Flashed them through twrp and installation showed successful with no errors. But after booting all the google apps(play services, google now etc etc)started crashing one after the another and none of them are actually installed. Just icons are there in the place and when you click on them, it says 'app not installed'. Everything except google apps seem fine. I couldn't access twrp recovery either so couldn't restore the Nand backup .While booting into recovery,it is stuck at twrp logo and no progress further. At last I had to flash the stock through flashtool. That went alright but again I'm back on square one!

Okay, ler's walk through it step by step. Maybe we can get it working.
1) Flash TWRP again through that app you used.
2) Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik-cache
3) Flash CM12.1
4) Boot into system (might take 5-15 minutes)
5) After it booted up (and everything looks fine), reboot into recovery
6) Flash the opengapps zip
7) Boot into system and wait
(I normally flash system and gapps in one shot, but sometimes it creates errors, so try it separately)
Now it should work... Please tell if you encounter issues

Thanks for the help, but twrp becomes inaccessible once CM is installed. So I cannot flash anything further. Then my only option would be to use flashtool. It happened last time.
How do you fix this and what can I do to make sure twrp stays accessible?
Also, in advance wipe menu of twrp, there was a partition called 'Android Secure '. I didn't know what it was about, so left it intact along with internal and SD.What does this partition hold? Does it need to be wiped as well?

To acess twrp (not cm recovery) you should spam the volume UP key when you power up the phone, and led lights up.

Already tried that. All I'm getting is twrp logo screen. The screen flashes in about every two seconds. No progress from there.
I also tried rebooting into recovery using CM advanced reboot option.Result is the same.

I can help you my friend!
Firsly, Android 5.1 (CM12.1) is outdated. You can find Android 6.0 on these forums.
1. Download Android 6.0 to your phone.
Stryflex ROM or Cyanogenmod 13 or whatever ROM you like, search this forum, those two I tried.
2. Download AGapps (these will work).
3. Install TWRP. This app works when already in Cyanogenmod.
4. Go to recovery, wipe system,data,cache...everything except internalSD (that's where Android 6.0 and gapps zip is).
5. Flash Cyanogemod 13 or Stryflex.
6. Flash Gapps.
7. Reboot.
And Android 6.0 is really miles better than stock. Once you try this, you just can't go back.

Judging from the first two posts, you don't have a SELinux-compatible recovery.
I flashed CM like this
-rooted the phone
-installed a recovery with Rachit Rawat's windows installer (@corphish's app works as well)
-flashed a kernel that comes with a recovery installed (I personally use Vengeance r1 since it's the most up-to-date for stock)
-got the CM and gApp zip files on the phone, wiped everything and installed just CM
Then I flashed the TWRP recovery through the terminal that comes with CM..and then I wiped everything again, just in case something had gone wrong during the previous install. This time I installed both CM and the gapps, and everything worked just right.

When you boot to TWRP, choose the "Wipe" option, on the next screen, choose "Advanced Wipe", then on the next screen, choose "system" and "data" partitions(do not choose any of the other partitions). Then slide the slider at the bottom to wipe, then tap the home button in TWRP and choose the "Install" option and flash your RIM like you normally would, then after it flashes, wipe cache and Dalvik/ART cache, after it wipes the caches, select reboot and you're done.

hi, that didn't work, it says it has done but then it boots straight back up into fulmics. Any other ideas.

There is probably something wrong with your recovery. They flashing an older or newer version of TWRP for your model number, then try flashing a different ROM.
If your recovery was working correctly then the steps to wipe that I told you about should have wiped your system partition, if it had done that properly then you wouldn't have anything to boot to at this point if your new ROM didn't flash. Since you booted to the ROM you tried to wipe then it didn't wipe.
Also, make sure that you still have root before you flash another recovery, use the root checker app, if you don't have root, try flashing SuperSU.zip in TWRP, then try flashing the new ROM.

I never faced this issue before, I had installed roms before and was able to flash a new rom , so could the recovery really be the issue.

Just try another recovery and eliminate that possibility, you're not gonna cause any issues with the new recovery unless you use the wrong one.

Try advanced wipe including everything. then flash stock rom or any official ones. If you got qualcomm device then use QFIL or Qualcomm Flash Tool
hi i just tried that and it didn't do anything, once again it says done but it didn't do anything, I think it may be the recovery as suggested by Droidriven. I am going to try and flash a different version of TWRP or maybe clockworkmod recovery , I will keep you updated. But do you guys have any suggestions to what may have caused this, Fulmics never worked for me.

It sounds to me like you flashed something that was not made for your model number. Find the correct stock firmware and flash that, then start over and find something different for your device this time.

quick story. I reinstalled of the same version (2.8) and the problem is still here, I am going to try to install a different version.
Sorry to keep posting but I tried a factory reset using TWRP and it says failed. Could that mean something.
Actually guys, IT says failed underneath for everything but in the console it shows no signs of failure.
SOrry guys for being a noob, this can now be shut down as i have fixed the problem by unchecking simulate actions.

How in the world did that setting get changed, it should have been set to what you needed by default.
