[Q] CWM didn't restore, stuck at splash

Hi,
So I used the Revolutionary method to s-off and root my phone - this was successful. I then made a full backup using Titanium and a few other things like SMS and contact backups, which are on my laptop now.
I then installed SVHD v1.7.4 using Clockworkmod v4.0.1.4. It ran fine, but try as I might I couldn't load my contacts and SMS back into it. So I tried to restore is back to the stock rom by going into Clockwork's Recovery, wiping cache, data and system.
When I tried to restore to a previous point, it gave me an error message saying system.img, data.img and so on not found, so all restore has been skipped. Now I'm stuck at the 3 splash screen. I can still get into the bootloader though, and can potentially install SVHD again as it's still on the SD card.
A quick search through the forums shows users with similar problems from 2012, but I'm afraid of buggering up my phone further so I'm hoping someone could be so kind as to walk me through what I need to do.

Have you make a nandroid backup
in recovery?- sorry i didn`t see it mentioned,...
if you haven`t, then there is nothing to restore...
system ( the whole nand image ) could only be restored,
when it was previously been written...
try to mount sd card- while in recovery,
and look for: Clockworkmod/backups/.....
if there is nothing, i`m afraid you`re ......

Ah sorry, I forgot to mention. Yes, I have two backups in CWM. Neither of which seem to work.

have you been changing recovery version lattely?
what i mean is: if you have, then try to revert back
to the version you used to create nandroid with,
and if you haven`t, then try to grab 4ext recovery-
possibly newest release you can put your hands on,
and try to restore nandroid from there...
...there is also a tool called:
< CWM2update.zip.creator > by @ss429842,
that may partly be a cure for your trouble- perhaps....

I don't think I've changed the recovery version, no. But I clearly did something very wrong. I couldn't access my SD card as it's internal and I was afraid I was stuck.
What I've done instead is find the SVHD zip file and installed that. Hopefully this will work and I can at least turn my phone on and proceed from there. It sucks being a noob!

so everyone always says back up your data before rooting but no one ever says how. whats the best way to back up data on a one plus one?

i have herd that before but where do i get it how do i use it and what does it do? and what is it, i always thought it was a program used for rooting.

TWRP is a custom recovery. It is used to make backups (sometimes referred as nand backup) , restore backups, install (flash) roms and a lot of other stuff. Check out this guide for how to get twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632

It depends on what you mean by back up your data. If you're looking to back up your apps and user data, then use titanium backup.
Twrp is only for backing up your rom. Yeah it can back up apps as well and u can restore them but titanium backup is the best when it comes to this. I suggest titanium back up pro so u can batch restore and backup without any worries.

Help me get rooted again

This is the perfect storm....
Been running unofficial and official CM12 nightlies. Made the mistake of installing SuperSU (because it's my preference) and some how I've wrecked root access all around. My theory is that built in superuser and flashed supersu are breaking each other somehow:
To fix it I:
1. Tried to reflash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip via TWRP. This does not work, supersu still can't get root access.
2. Tried disabling, enabling superuser in settings, no matter what supersu still can't get root access.
3. Dirty flashed the nightly agian (or the next days) to just use built in SuperUser. This does not work.
To make matters worst, I lost my TB backup so I can't do a clean install, without loosing everything.
Any ideas on how I can get root again, or maybe even how I can make new backups of my apps+data?

You need to clean flash the ROM again, and this time don't install SuperSU (root access is built into Privacy Guard on CM12). Unfortunately without root your can't backup your apps, don't you backup your backups to your PC or something?

Hey thanks for your help. No, I don't have a backup on my PC.
I knew a clean flash would fix the issue, but as I said this is the perfect storm.

Unfortunately I don't think you don't really have a choice. You could try entering the SuperSU menu and doing the full unroot, rebooting, and seeing if the built in root will work. This is why it pays to do your research before flashing.

[Q] Upgrade 5.0.1 and setup OK. Nandroid Backup OK. Boot Loop on Nandroid Restore

Hi --
Nexus 5 on Sprint.
I'm running into a boot loop issue when trying to restore a Nandroid Backup built on a fresh N5 about an hour after a clean install.
Details are:
I just this week updated from Stock KK (4.4.4 I think) to Stock LP (5.0.1) -- I've been waiting because of needing/wanting XPosed framework....
After unrooting and returning to stock recovery on KK 4.4.4,
I did the LP OTA followed by a Full Erase after the OTA to start fresh. (Note: I have subsequently experienced the same exact problem after installing the LP using the flash-all.bat from the Nexus 5 image extracted to the SDK/platform-tools folder.)
After completing the login and google's restore process perfectly... All things LP appear to be working well and my phone is set up the way I want. So...
I then installed CWM recovery 6.0.4.5 using fastboot.
I then used the CWM recovery to root with SuperSU v2.40
I then used CWM recovery to make a Nandroid backup... (after completing a rooted power up and returning to the recovery)
Long story short (kind of), within the first several hours I messed something up (install of Nine email app AFTER the Nandroid didn't work and was leading to android.process.acore stopping issues. Nine has since told me that the app is not compatible with my company's MDM security solution Maas36). So , I wanted to return to the Nandroid point in time and just put my company exchange email into GMAIL - Acore issues continued after removing Nine.-- but were NOT happening at the time point where I created the backup. So I booted into CWM Recovery and selected to restore and picked the backup I had made of the fresh device.
Restore via CWM recovery proceeds fine and completes. However, it goes into the flying circles boot loop (I tried leaving it go for upwards of 2.5 hours at the longest time
I can easily recover from this with a flash-all.bat in fastboot
I have done this numerous times today and it is completely repeatable. Same thing happens each time.
I have definitely restored from Nandroid previously using this process on KK. But so far no Nandroid restore possible for me on LP. To be clear, the LP install works fine, but just can't be recovered from the Nandroid backup. I guess I'm OK with that, but I'd rather not fly without a backup safety net.
Hopefully that's enough detail for someone to comment. If I've missed any helpful details, let me know.
So, have I done anything wrong? The only thing I can think of at this second is possibly needing to unroot before attempting the restore? Is that it? I don't think I've done that before.

One quick addition. I figured someone would suggest using TWRP instead of CWM, so I'm going through that process now. I'll update the post if I find different results. I'm also making my TWRP first backup pre-root just in case that matters...

What and how to backup before Ubuntu Touch install?

Hi everyone,
I'm a noob to the OPO and also a bit of a noob to backing up and restoring individual partitions, although I have some experience with flashing the Nexus 5 and Z3C with B2GOS and /e/.
I'd like to put Ubuntu Touch on my OPO. I'd like to make sure I can return the phone to stock afterwards, if needed (e.g., I want to sell it as stock). I was thinking of taking partition images with TWRP first, will this be sufficient? I see there's a tool for backing up the EFS as well, so I suppose I should do that.
Or maybe I need to do nothing! Will it be sufficient just to reflash stock firmware when I want to return to stock? If a combination of both flashing stock firmware and TWRP images, EFS backup, what order does it need to be done in?

I don't have much time at the moment. I tested Ubuntu Touch just a few weeks ago. Some (not all) bacon users have broken Wlan. I'm one of them. Because of that I went back to Android. So it's possible.
It was a bit tricky. Of course I recommend a full nandroid backup. Copy it to a save place (for example your PC). Don't change any partitions on your phone during installation.
To go back (if I'm remembering wright):
- flash latest recovery via fastboot
- reboot in recovery (for me it was still the Ubuntu recovery)
- anywhere there was an option to boot Android
- take this option and you will reboot in the Android recovery
- there you can restore your previous backup

Okay, a full Nandroid backup I can do. But don't I have to flash TWRP to the recovery partition to do that? If so, do I need to backup the recovery partition somehow first?

No, I don't think you need. It would be good to have the original recovery file... But I never backed up my original recoveries. One of the first things I make with a new phone is flashing twrp. So I would just download the latest image for Bacon and flash it via fastboot.
I recommend to back up your personal data (pictures, documents, ...) ton tour PC. Who knows.

Thanks, that's helpful. I don't actually know how to backup the recovery partition other than using root access and presumably some ADB command, so if it's not needed then that's good news. I will of course backup my data first, but a reminder is always a good thing!
