hello all,
I am having a samsung galaxy tab 2 gt-p3100 and it is out of warranty now. It was working fine till the day when my cousin installed a game of almost 2 GB size (fifa, also i dont know whether the problem is due to game or not). after the game was launched tab showed restarting issues. It is restarting again and again by itself even when I am not using it. I decided to factory reset it but it didn't worked. I tried hard reset also and again it was not working. All apps data were present there even after reset, nothing was changed.
I did some research on android forums and XDA and found that installing custom ROM can solve this issue else I have to get my motherboard replaced.
I started with rooting and installing CWM recovery on my device. I did the process using a video tutorial and used the files mentioned in it from XDA. the files name is :
"P3100_CWM_RECOVERY-6.0.1.3_SUPERSU-0.96_BUSYBOX-1.20.2.tar.md5"
My odin message box displays below messages. :
............
<ID:0/007> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/007> Initialzation..
<ID:0/007> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/007> Firmware update start..

<ID:0/007> RES OK !!
<ID:0/007> Removed!!
<ID:0/007> Remain Port .... 0
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
(Before showing PASS messages. odin showed me RESET message and it was only when tab restarted it showed me PASS)
This shows that process is completed and my device should be rooted. But when I checked there was not Superuser installed and no custom recovery was seen when recovery mode was started.
Also, tab when started shows error messages like "gapps stopped working", "gmail stopped working". In short, all the google apps were displaying these kind of messages.
Please help!!! and suggest me how should I proceed to try custom ROM.
Have you checked root access using any app? If no then do check it.

And can you boot into recovery? Volume up+ power button?
i tried booting the device into recovery mode using volume up and power button but itt shows android recovery mode.
Also, i tried installing the application to test for root but tab won't allow the installation to finish. It restarts in between so cant check using apps.

File which i mentioned in above description is for rooting as well as cwm recovery (it was shown in the video as such) so it should complete both processes. But for me it seems none is completed.

Yes i tried that option too but the installatiin was failing in between.
For once, i took my tab to samsung service centers too, they too tried to flash rom using odin (i was able to see there working on pc) but there process was also giving the same result - fail.
I am having a doubt, should my device be rooted to install cwm recovery or this recovery is required to root the device as i am planning to again perform these processes individually using other tutorials individual for both.
I hope this helps.

Maybe you have got the famous trim bug,I think you should use the superuser zip method to root your device, the one without recovery included,
Then try flashing the recovery,

I have already tried to flash stock rom from sammobile and as i have already mentioned, same process was also tried by engineer at samsung service center and the process failed. In all, that process is almost tried on this tab for 5-6 times but with same result.
I also noticed one thing that this tab is stuck at one particular state. No mattwr what i do with it, it comes back to same home screen and without any changes. For example, if i start my tab and uninstall some application and change the view of home screen and then if the tab restarts, it will be back to previous state i.e. no apps unonstalled and home sceen will also b back to previous state. All changes are reverted back.

I have the same problem as yours. Tried to flash the stock rom, wiped the device thru the android recovery, every thing fails. If there is anyone with the solution, let me know.
I have the same problem with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100.
I have the exact same problem to P5100. No solution yet, still reading everywhere.

Answer no but it includes stock everything .
Stock roms on the forum or sammobile.com samsung-updates .com .
Would flashing the stock ROM erase everything from the tablet? Is there a way to retrieve the files from it in download mode?

Hi all,
I have a similar issue to kyleschepis.
I am not using a custom ROM. I have the stock ROM that came with the GT-N8013.
My issue started a week ago. My Galaxy Note had been having occasional issues with the external SD card. A warning would appear saying that the SD card had been removed, and a couple of seconds later it would re-mount and every thing was fine.
But last week, I picked up my note and turned the screen on (it was already started) and noticed the warning message while the screen was still locked. Then, as the second message was still being displayed letting me know that the SD card had been mounted, I swipe the screen to unlock. But instead of unlocking, my Note completely rebooted. It got as far as the logo screen (displaying "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1"), but would go no further.
I AM able to get into the Odin download mode but CANNOT get into recovery mode no matter what I do.
I have tried re-flashing the stock ROM ("KIES_HOME_N8013UEUCMI3_N8013XARCMI3_813049_REV00 _user_low_ship.tar.md5") several times, as well as trying to install customer recovery modes like CWM and TWRP, as well as the stock recovery. The installation in Odin seems to run fine - I get the "PASS" message at the end of the prodedure. But the power + volume up combination does NOT get me into recovery mode. Even if, as many have suggested, I continue holding the button combination until the logo screen displays a second or a third time.
I have been without my Note for a full week now, and I use it for everything. So, any help I can get would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

I am having near the same experience as rob-x. I have had problems with some files on my SD card missing or arbitrarily renamed. I had the tab on charge and the next day it was looping through the boot screen,
I have tried flashing the firmware with Odin and also CWM, without results. I am unable to boot into recovery, only into download.
Also the only way to turn the machine off is to plug it in to charger then hold the on/off until the screen goes black.
My next plan is to flash the PIT and the firmware at the same time,

Hi tcm13,
Three weeks later and I am still none the wiser with my Note. It is still caught in the bootloop.
I can tell you that I have tried flashing the PIT and the stock firmware, but in my case it did not help. You are welcome to try. It didn't get any worse, but it did not get any better either. I have also tried flashing the stock German and UK ROMs for the GT-N8010 (mine is the US GT-N8013) with or without the PIT. These both fail fairly early on in the flashing process. But the behavior of the device does not change. Still the same bootloop, stuck at the same place.
Sorry for the bad news. Like I said, in my case flashing the PIT didn't help, but I have read on forums that people did have success with it. So it is definitely worth trying. It doesn't make things any worse, any way.
Let me know how it goes for you.
Ditto, same issue. I can flash a .tar file (I have tried CF-Auto and TRWP) in download mode using Odin but can't get the device into recovery mode.
It is just boot looping to the Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 screen every 15-20 seconds. Can't even turn the damn thing off to save battery!!

Hi,
I have tried all and every PIT, ROM custom or not, and various recoveries without success.
I presume, as opposed to assume that it is a hardware fault.
Faulty SD card reading, random freezing, crashes and long charging cycles lead me to surmise some basic fault is the cause, also seeing that my device is not the only one to have been stricken.
I have now surrendered my system to the "tender mercies" of the appointed Samsung technicians as my device is still under warranty.
I dislike admitting defeat but I have gone as far as I can without picking up a screwdriver.
Let hear if you have found another alternative.
Hi,
Could you let us know how it went after the service? I had similar problems with my Note 10.1 (n8013) but it seems to have gone away by itself. Had to let the battery die a couple of times a couple of times though, but now I'm running IOKP without a hitch. . Would really like to know what the Samsung service people diagnosed...

BUMP : Same behavior here. I was able to upload an older stock ROM via odin but upon rebooting, the behavior persists and I still cannot boot into recovery mode. It would help tremendously if Samsung would pull their heads out of the asses and provide links to firmware but I cannot find an official source for any US version of the Note 10.1 (gt-n8013eavxar).
Side note to the origin of the problem. The tablet I am attempting to recover had never been rooted so I'm ruling out operator error as to how the device became so jammed up.

I had a similar issue but then realised that the instructions I had been following were slightly inaccurate i.e. hold down power and volume up...... what worked for me was hold down power and volume up, when logo comes up, release power but hold on to the volume.
lets know if you already tried that.

On the tablet i get: SW REV. Invalid magic string
I have tried to flash a new recovery using Heimdall and that i can do with no errors, but i canot enter recovery mode.
Am i tryind to flash the wrong firmware fra Sammobile?
Hope that someone can help me to solve this.
NOTE: Before this went wrong i had CM 10.2 Nightly on the tablet, but could not play any videos, so i want to go back to stock. So i connected the tablet to odin and tried to flash the firmware from Sammobile, but it failed, and now, this is where im at.
EDIT: I got the problem solved.. I tried various stock roms from Sammobile, different countries and regions, ended up with a stockrom pointing at Netherlands even tho i live in Denmark, but that one flashed with no errors, and i was able to get past the "Samsung Galaxy 10.1 ) logo, but got stuck at the "Samsung" logo. But i was now able to enter revovery mode (Power + Vol Up) and do a full wipe and the reboot. Now everything works.
A littel bonus question i would like someone to help me understand. When i want to download a Stock Rom from Sammobile, what should i choose? I live in Denmark, but there is no option for that when i am to selct a download from Sammobile.
Another question, can i Select a 4.1.2 firmware and flash that on my Tablet, now that i have the 4.4.2 installed? I hate the new KitKat placement of buttons on the tablet.. Back button in the middle where you cant reach it with your thumb and the drop down menus are a pain.. i hate it.
Will i for example be able to flash this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
Or are there some problems with me having 4.4.2 now, and want to go back to 4.1.2?
Please advise.
Thank you in advance.
I am glad it helped several members but unfortunately not me and probably also others with the same issue as ROBX described.
I think it has something to do with hardware, original cable etc. tomorrow I have it flashed at the Samsung shop and see if it works there.

Any one tray this and solve the problem?

Tablet is a Samsung Galaxy GT-P5113TS 16GB version.
The initial problem with the tablet was that the Galaxy Tab logo appear but would just hang. It would boot into the firmware download menu with the buttons but not the recovery mode.
Attempted to flash a CWM and/or a Philz Recovery. After the attempted flash (via Odin 1.85) which failed. The tablet could no longer be recognized by Odin. Rebooted the tablet and it now comes up with the error: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. The computer and Odin 1.85, and 3.09 all recognize it is there connects to it but fails to install a recovery file, a PIT file, a full firmware (P5113UEUCMK3_HOME.tar.md5)
Kies detects there is a device but fails to recognize it.
Attempting to use Kies says it cannot upgrade or initialize the GT-P5113 after the model number and serial number are entered.
Odin 3.07 is presently the only Odin that goes through the entire process of flashing the Stock ROM.
However, when it completes, there is nothing on the screen. If I leave it for 10 minutes, the screen still remains black.
If I then shut it down, it reboot with the same error message. After trying that and another stock ROM,
Odin is now failing at system.img with the error Xmit Write fail XmitData Fail.
Now it is caught in a boot loop which reboots the tablet constantly (known only by the sound of a USB device disconnecting and reconnecting) and will eventually stop after a random time at the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue". Then I can try it again. I have tried it with the only two 4.2.2 firmwares that I can find on samsung-updates.
I have tried this on two different computers with the same firmware. It just seems to get worse the more I try.
I am not even sure what firmware was on it before as it belongs to a neighbour who asked me to help getting working for him.
Holding down the power button for 10 seconds or more does not shut down or stop the boot loop.
Any suggestions at all would be appreciated it.
Is there anything else I can try that I haven't tried already like a bootable micro SD card? I have searched and I can't find one or the correct information to make my own.
EDIT: Tried it with a PIT file (signed_espresso_20120220_16G.pit) but it fails to upload the PIT file with the error "There is no PIT partition"
Thanks for any help.
Um... do you know if odin was ever run with "repartition" checked but no pit file?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Not sure at this point but it is in the realm of possibility.
If it was, is there any way to repartition it? Like with Heimdall or something?
EDIT: This is what was done since posting the above.
OK, I left the tablet charging overnight (well I slept 4 hours or so) and this time it installed the firmware without any errors.
I figure it was that the battery was dead. However, even though it installs the firmware, it still fails if I use the .pit file with the same error of no PIT partition.
Upon reboot, it comes back to the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" message again.

Yes I tried to re-partition a couple of times using the 16GB PIT file as it is a 16GB Tab 2. But it never completed any attempt to do the re-partition.
It installs the firmware every time now but after when it is finished to do the reboot. The screen remains black until I hold down the power button to shut it down and then it reboots and presents me with the firmware encountered an issue message.

I think I wasn't clear enough.
Repartitioning without using a pit file can wipe the whole system into one or two partitions.
As far as I know that is an irreparable condition.

Is there a way to create a bootable Micro SD card that has a recovery image CWM/TWRP that will allow me to repartition?
I got a heimdall print-pit output from somewhere with the partition block sizes, etc.
Thanks for the help. I think the eMMC was bad to begin with because it was not booting into recovery or even flashing recovery images or booting any of them.
I was hoping there was a way I could make a bootable micro SD that I could format the eMMC, booting to a bootloader from the micro SD card and flashing the stock rom back on.
Hi Dechronic, and hi all xda-dev members here,
I think I am experiencing some problem with yours.
My friend asked me to fix his Galaxy Tab P5100. It shows yellow triangle with message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue......"
I did try to enter recovery/download mode by hold power+vol up/down -> Display went blank, then back to yellow triangle.
I did try to flash stock ROM that downloaded from samsung website using Odin 3.10.7, 3.10.6 -> Failed
I did try to flash stock ROM that downloaded from samsung website using Odin 3.07 -> PASS. Then device went blank again. There was no sign of life , then I pushed the power button -> Back to yellow triangle, again.
I tried another flashing -> still same result.
I tried to install CWM from odin -> PASS -> screen went blank again
Did you successfully "wake" your device up? If yes then please share the steps here
Many thanks in advance.

Let me guess, you have KIES installed?
Uninstall KIES if you use Odin or Heimdall to flash via download mode.
Don't use USB-Hubs - use i direct port on your PC/Laptop.
Good luck!
I have the exact same error on my tab 2 P3100, I tried upgrading through Kies, after entering the Model and serial no it says does not support Initializing.
I downloaded the Stock Rom and flashed using Odin, it shows a successful flash only in Odin 3.07 (other versions of Odin it shows FAIL), but when it reboots it shows the same message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue"
I un-installed Kies and flashed through Odin, yet again the same error message, its just stuck on this screen. Any help like what should I do next?
Same problem!! Any help?
OK, Ive been without my note for a whole day and been researching wht to do nonstop
What happened to me was that, since i had updated to official kitkat, i soon developed a taste for lollipop, and went on to try out different ROMs and finally settled on to crDroid
So it was one of those days where everything was going well until the note stopped opening apps for like a minute then showd a black screen and then all of a sudden restarted
Since this was a Sammy i thought it would get back up again.... But no, even a 5 minute didnt wake this beast up, it remained stuck at the boot logo, i.e, Samasung Galaxy Note 10.1
Im like ok ill go on do a factory reset and wipe cache and all, upon trying to accesss the recovery after the boot logo the recovery kinda opens then gets back at boot logo, a black screen shows up then turns on to be a full brightness black screen for a sec then goes back
I can access the download mode and can odin things but they fail every single time.
I have tried to odin a recovery and a stock recovery so far and they show a nand write error
i also have tried to PIT but they get stuck at get PIT for mapping
I have also tried all versions of odin tried changing a USB Port and the wire with no success
So is there any hope for my NOTE??
Please i need help its urgent

is it rooted ?
i have the same problem from 2 months and i am finally got that i must replace the motherboard
Sounds like its written its last, flash is dead.
Since you are able to enter in download mode there is hope. Trying to flash recovery which doesn't match the firmware version will always fail. So, try flashing some of the base firmwares which will return everything to stock. I was in your situation few months ago and managed to flash Android Revolution HD 4.4.2 after first flashing stock firmware via odin. I got my 4.4.2 base firmware from "sammobile.com", firmware section (sorry i don't have enough posts for using links).
I remember i tried flashing TWRP for GT N8000 and i also tried Philz then CWM all for GT N8000
I also tried flashing base rom but it gives NAND write fail
Nand write fail can mean damaged PIT or the actual nand memory is damaged and needs a new motherboard .
flash with pit file
found these pit files for the device.
you can flash the pit file for GT-N8000 in odin
don't forget to repartition, it's a very delicate situation, you don't want to mess it up, before going to this, you should confirm if the size are same. you wont like to flash a 16gb to 32gb partition.

same problem for me, this did not work, still write error
I have a similar problem. Everything is stuck. I am tryingo to go back to stock, but if I try to connect (via Odin, Heimdall, fastbot or adb sideload) i can't.
Is there any advice?
Thanks
nope not yet
I'm early ???
So it turned out that my AMAZING tablet had its storage device corrupted... I. E I exceeded the read write count
Similar problem Bricked N8005
I bought my N8005 (variant of N8000 but phone is disabled just data 3G is available) in 2012. I rooted it once and used custom rom for a while but last year installed official stock ROM again. Yesterday I started a game called "zombidle" (possibly this is an unnecessary info) and tablet restarted itself but stuck on "samsung" logo.
I tried to enter recovery mode but it always restarted and cannot enter recovery mode.
Tried to install different versions of CWM, Philz and TWRP recovery using odin but it always FAILed when NANDwrite started. Tried odin 1.85, 1.87, 3.07, 3.09, 3.12 but all same.
I tried to install same stock ROM but always FAILed.
Then I tried to install a custom rom but it failed too.
I read about bad pit files. Searched internet and found some pit files but nothing changed, FAILed at same point.
Did I finished all solutions?
Should I take it to the doctor?
Any sugesstions?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Today I took it to the Samsung doctors. They said that; this is a mainboard issue and mainboard needs to be changed. That will be over 400TL (TL=Turkish Lira). Device is still in markets and new N8005 is 1300TL (i think this is also expensive. Because new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 T817 32GB 9.7" is 1900TL in my country).
Does it worth to fix? Any opinions? Can I fix it myself somehow?
Nand write fail probable defunct memory.
Hi all,
So I got soft bricked Samsung Galaxy S6.
Here are the issues:
- The person got it when he tried to root it
- Stuck in boot logo (Samsung S6, Powered by Android) and does not go further
- I can flash original firmware (Vodafone, Australia) through ODIN successfully, but the problem remains
- Cannot access recovery mode, tried to flash both stock recovery and custom (TWRP, all versions available at twrp.me)
- Have tried both Kies3 and SmartSwitch, emergency recovery went smooth, flashed successfully, but the problem remains
- After each successful flashing, I try to boot into recovery mode in order to clear cache, but it does not boot into recovery at all
- Tried all versions of ODIN and used all cables at home
- Another strange behavior, it can power on only when it is connected to cable. So it either stuck or can boot into Download mode when I press combination. But if I disconnect, after some time it switches off and cannot power on unless you connect it to the cable. Does it mean that the person ticked NAND erase as it is also related to energy dependency of the memory? I don't believe it to be battery issues as I saw this issue on another phone too (Samsung A9)
It is weird. I just want to understand, why I am not able to boot into recovery mode even after successful flashing stock ROM?
Any help is appreciated
Hi, I too have similar issue. Would like to know how you got it resolved.

Same issue here, any idea to solve that? (I'm Brazilian, sorry for some typing wrong)
I don't opened the device (yet), but if is a battery issue, someone tried to fix?
My device is SM-G920I, i tried to flash this FW: G920IDVU3FQD1_G920IXSA3FQC3_XSA without sucess, i will try with a "pit" file that i've found here on XDA and update here, but until the moment, the problem remains
Update: The PIT file does not solved the problem, after this I decided to open the device and swap the battery, but the problem remained, i'm buying a new board today, i think this board can't be saved
I've had similar problem with my Note4. It would sucessfuly apply firmware via Odin but refuse to boot. (tried multiple times)
I then did a flash via SmartSwitch (takes forever) but the phone worked again.
any update for this ? i have the same issue
Hi, I've had a rooted android for a couple of years now. Today I wanted to run the new Magisk root so that I could use apps that prevent rooted phones from using them. Following the instructions here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445) I went to SuperSU and clicked 'Wipe Root' which then sent my device into constant bootlooping.
I can only get the blue screen saying 'Odin Mode' and a big down arrow saying 'Downloading... Do not turn off target' or a constant bootlooping.
I followed the instructions here though when I have put the four BL, AP, CP and CSC files and click Start, all that happens is in the log on the left it says: <OSM> All threads completed . (succeed 0/ failed 0). From what I can make out, the Odin software on the laptop is not communicating at all with the Samsung S6 in Download mode.
Could someone please help!

Had to come back and add on to my previous post - I sorted it. It was simply a driver issue... Make sure you download all the correct Samsung USB Drivers people if you're having similar issues...
I finally restored my Android to Stock Android (albeit the latest Android system 7.1).
So I tried flashing Nougat BTU firmware on my S7
I'm pretty sure I forgot to enable OEM unlock, because the odin flash failed and after that I got the screen "an error has occurred while updating the device software use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software"
So I tried going to "Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization" and then Device initialization", the first problem was I didn't have my S/N, because I stupidly peeled off the sticker on the phone and thew it away, then I found a random S/N through google for the my phone model, I tried it and it seemed to work at first, It download just fine, but when it came to "Software update and initialization for Galaxy S7 is in progress" it just stayed on 0% until it asked me to unplug the usb and try again. One time after several tries it moved to 4% then stopped and asked me to use the recovery code and try again from another PC, but it didn't give me a recovery code, so I was stuck on the in download mode, with only a tiny part of the progress done, as I couldn't continue the progress I restarted and tried again, no luck.
When I try to flash the firmware now, whether it's flashing Nougat or my orginal phones firmware I get the following after it FAILED:
<ID:0/008> Odin engine v(ID:3.1101)..
<ID:0/008> File analysis..
<ID:0/008> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/008> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
At this point I don't know what to do, I screwed up big time, is there anything to do here? Any help is extremely appreciated.
let me know if you need any more info
EDIT: Also is there any way I can turn of my device? I'm thinking of calling it a night and try again when I wake up
Vol - Home and Power. Hold and when prompted to press for recovery - Press HOME button, to display your serial. Press it again to go to download. BTW, serial is engraved on the bottom of backplate.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried with my own S/N but it didn't make a difference, it still stuck on 0% on "Software update and initialization for Galaxy S7 is in progress" after downloading.

Can you charge the device and download the official nougat firmware from sammobile. The download speed is really slow and should give you that two hours to charge the device.
Can you put the device in download mode and flash it via odin to see what happens. There are times when the firmware flash goes correctly on second or third time. Use HOME_CSC rather than the file starting with CSC if you do not want to lose your data.
I have the BTU (UK unlocked) firmware and can share it with you via Google drive which will give you better download speed.

I tried to flash the BTU Nougat firmware from http://live.samsung-updates.com don't know if it's any different from the one on sammobile?
Anyways, I tried flashing the one from live.samsung, and it just seems to be stuck right now, with this odin log:
<ID:0/008> Odin engine v(ID:3.1101)..
<ID:0/008> File analysis..
<ID:0/008> skip file list for home binary

What version of odin are you using. Try 3.12.3.
I updated odin to 3.12.3 and changed the cable is was using, and I'm now running Nougat, thank you for taking the time to reply to my problem.
Btw for all of you I had to do the same and SamMobile speeds are verrrry slow but I found a site called UPDATO.com and it owned by and xda-developers member and I tried it and it works absolutely fine.If you ever need to do this again go there
Odin Cant open serial(com)port
I have a Samsung s7 phone - sm-G930F. It is stuck on the front title page with frp lock due to the fact I did something wrong when putting a custom rom in. Pretty much every time I use any type of odin, it either says "Cant open serial(com)port" for the most part or it stops just after sb.boot and says cant finish writing or something to that affect. I have tried every version of odin from 6 to 13. And every stock standard firmware for that phone that I can find. Including ones specifically for my phone company Optus. NOTHING WORKS. I am beginning to think I may have to buy a new phone. Please help. Tell me what I am doing wrong
help an idiot
Please help me!
I've been a complete moron and tried to flash my s7 g930f without actually knowing what i was doing.
I have followed so many different guides and walkthroughs and it keeps leading me deeper into nothing with a reboot loop that won't stop on normal boot up.
At the moment, I've got it as far as working TWRP but i have no idea what i need to download and where it should go in Odin or on the SD.
Any help would be life saving - i've got old family pictures that are very dear to me on the phone and would hate to lose them.

Did you confirm that the model # is g930f in download mode? I recommend performing this step before flashing anything to the phone as flashing the wrong ROM can cause further issues.
Do you know which is currently on the phone?
The phone has TWRP installed? If yes, boot into TWRP, mount the data parition, and try to copy off your data.

yes it is g930f as confirmed in the download mode.
I had TWRP installed (one of the steps i tried to follow to fix but i think the later steps i have taken (of which i have no idea what i was doing) may have removed TWRP. So im trying to reinstall TWRP to remove the data - but once i do that what do i do.
Currently im waiting for a very slow download of the stock ROM for 8.0 to give it a try

You want to copy the data or remove the data?
Flashing TWRP will allow you to mount the data partition to copy off the data.
Stock firmware can be downloaded from updating.com or samsung-firmware.org.

i've managed to download a copy of the stock rom for 8.0 but all the guides i seem to be following don't seem to be working.
i may have to take it to a shop and pay for them to do it for me.
