[Q] Tried installing Drivers for Shield Tablet, is it bricked? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All I want to do is root this thing, and after spending the better part of a day updating firmware, it seems I screwed the pooch doing that first.
I tried my best to follow the outdated tutorials, first step of each sent me onto another tutorial, etc. So I had device manager up, I sent it to look for the Universal Naked Driver, it said I was up to date, plugged along. Mini ADB and fastboot went up, my shield was in dev debug mode. ADB reboot command fails, and now my tablet won't power up with the hard key, and the computer wont recognize it.
Are there any solutions to this problem?

If the tablet doesn't power up maybe u have to send it to nvidia. [emoji20]
I just followed this

And everything worked fine.

Seems quite strange that it would get bricked since you seem to have not done any operations to the tablet at all. Did you try to flash anything while in adb or fastboot? Are you holding down the power button long enough to power on? You need to hold that mushy button for what might seem like forever. There are tools like Win Droid that do what you're trying to do.
But yes, seems like you might need to send it in if the tablet is actually bricked.

That was the one I started with, but I had to follow the breadcrumbs through the separate tool threads.
I factory reset the device before beginning this process, I hadn't entrenched myself in the tablet since I've only had it since last Thursday. Doubt that has bearing.
I'd noticed software issues, freezing in and out of the lock screen. This was high among the reasons I decided to root it. Its possible I got a lemon, and if I didn't muck up the bootloader its still under factory warranty, correct? Should I contact Amazon who I bought it from before contacting Nvidia?

If it doesn't turn on maybe it as nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader.
Just activate the waranty.

I charged it overnight, and turned it on via recovery (down volume and power). It seems to be running fine now. Thanks for the advice, and I'll continue the process in the appropriate threads.

Pantech Burst Bricked HELP!!!

I recently picked up a Pantech Burst phone from At&t, and upgraded to ICS. I then proceeded to root the phone using the prestoroot.img method and it worked. Everything was running dandy until I got the VM Heap tool app and(stupidly) set the vm heap to 52m and attempted to reboot... It failed and all I got was a loop of boot up animations. I tried several times to reboot, and then tried to boot to recovery mode and factory reset. That worked, but it STILL didnt reboot..! I dont have a backup, and whenever i try to " Install update from external storage", it just fails over and over again. I found thestock firmware and downloaded it to my external sd card and install(still to no success). Im only 13 and cant afford a new phone! PLEASE SOMEONE HEEEELLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bricked my phone few days back doing restore from CWM 6 downloeded online from ROM manager,
I wiped cache dalvik etc & rebooted, I could see the Tap the android screen then suddenly blank now it wont start
I get QHSUSB_dload in PC device manager any way out
I tried this method but I dont get the download button to click it remains greyed out.
Is there any driver for QHSUSB_dload?
Or do I have no hope at the moment or in near future?
just don`t use ROM manager for installing recovery . usually the result is bricked phone
Yah, i remember a fastboot brick i got from rom manager (LG Optimud ME)
Sent from a 2.8 inch screen
I also just bricked my Pantech Burst the same way...using ROM Manager. Is there a way to fix this or am I out of luck? I did try the method posted at the top of this thread. It just gets locked in the S/W Upgrading screen. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm too in same situation.....i tried it updating via Pantech OS Upgrade tool......it updates successfully but doesnot bootup....
and now it shows some S/W Upgrading with red colour background

Mine did not upgrade successfully, but I have the exact same problem. On day three of waiting for a callback from Pantech on the issue. They are supposedly talking to the techs in Korea about it.
Maybe solved!

Don't know if this is going to help, but I had the problem (as I described) red S/W Upgrading and couldn't do anything. Well, after about two weeks of sitting with the battery out, I decided to redownload and rerun the Pantech update app, and lo and behold, it fixed my phone. It also installed a more up to date version of Android 4.0, I went from 4.01 to 4.04.
This is after running the updater a good 30 or so times the past two weeks hoping for anything to work, now today, bam, it works fine.
I would recommend anyone in this situation give the most recent updater a try, it may solve your problem.

Bricked Pantech Burst Stuck in S/W Downloading Mode and completely wiped ...
Ok I am having a similar issue guys. Last night I had to wipe my phone because it was overly full and I switched providers and the phone had become unusable. I tried using clockworkmod to do this and it wiped everything ( including clockworkmod. ) Now I only get a S/W Upgrading screen with a red box. I tried using the pantech download tool and the PANTECH_PRESTO_BIN_JUUS03122012.pdl file. It did appear that it was installing it but then it became stuck at the very very very end of things. I basically had to take the battery out to do anything at all as I had left the phone on all night to download the pdl file but without any luck.
When I reboot the phone it had the S/W Upgrading mode with the red screen. I've tried all of the different key combinations on the pantech burst etc volume up + volume down and power, volume down + power, volume up + power. None of these things will reboot the phone.
I am hoping I can use the pantech download tool to install a different pdl instead and possibly get it working that way. I know that when the phone is off if I plug it into usb then the screen lights up on it with the S/W Upgrading screen and the red box. If I press the power button or any other combinations of buttons + the power button it also does this. It literally will not do anything else.
I cannot use pantech pc suite because the phone originally was so unusable I could not put the android apk file on the phone even though I have it on my laptop.
I tried using adb and fastboot and it will not even find my device through ANY usb port on the laptop. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers over and over. The only thing I know to do is reboot afterward and hopefully it will find my phone on usb with adb. If I can just get to a bootloader or flash functional firmware onto this phone I think I could get it working but I do not know enough about the pantech burst to try physically jumping anything on it in order to hard reset it.
So my only options right now look like maybe get a different pdl, possibly reboot and the drivers may find my phone, or JTAG this thing.
I can't put it in usb debugging mode because it won't boot. Since adb does not even find the device as being attached it seems as if this phone should be operating in a different port mode or something to make it visible. I could be wrong but I am hoping that rebooting fixes the driver issue and makes the phone visible.
I tried PDAnet also and once again it does not work because it cannot find the device. This could be a usb cable issue I suppose but I only have this particular cable I am pretty sure
I might try another cable as well...
Any other ideas ? Am I going to have to JTAG this thing or should it be fixable using the download tool and a different pdl ? Or do I need to find another way to completely wipe the phone first and THEN use the download tool with the pdl file ?
It does get a bit confusing with so many mods, roms, and methods to recover android phones. If I can get the phone to boot then I can reload my backups and all should be well. I do need this phone for business purposes also. Any ideas guys ?
PS> I am also pretty decent with linux distros like arch or ubuntu so I would like to also know if it would just be better to do this in linux and possibly use linux to manually switch the phone to a different device mode to make it visible in the instance of there being nothing wrong with the drivers.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions ...
UPDATE - progress ???

OK quick update, I found the pantech burst upgrade tool and the burst-hack.cmd script
I managed to successfully find my phone with the upgrade tool and it completely ran its course and I am guessing it installed Ice Cream Sandwich.
My new problem is that the phone goes to the pantech logo boot screen if I plug the phone into usb but that is all it will do. If I unplug the phone and try to get into S/W Upgrade mode again or power it on it will not do anything at all. Basically the display only comes on when plugged in at this point so I am wondering if the battery is even charged or if it will charge. I read somewhere ( in the gizmolord forum ) that a guy had the same issue as me and he ran this tool for his pantech burst and then left the battery out for 2 weeks and tried to power it back on and it worked for him.
Is it possible that I just need to power the device down completely and let it completely discharge before it will reboot or is this thing bricked ?
I am thinking that either the battery needs to charge, or the phone needs to discharge and power down completely, or the phone could be bricked. I have a feeling it is not bricked because the update tool said everything was successful and no errors or anything.
I will try leaving the battery out for awhile and letting the phone discharge on its own and see what kind of results I get. I would think that 16 - 24 hours would be sufficient. Any ideas ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so I did a bit more digging and research and found out that the culprit is most likely the poorly designed charging circuit in the pantech phones. I found a tech blog called Mikes Techblog where he shows how to solve this on a pantech jest phone with the same issue. The problem is that the battery is 3.7v and is currently reading 2.8v on the volt meter. The phone will not even attempt to charge until 3.7v is available on the battery because of how the charge circuit is designed. I am going to try the usb cable trick and usb adapter and see if I can monitor its progress with the voltmeter and get it back up to 3.7 volts. After this it should allow me to charge it normally and should boot just fine. It is showing the pantech logo which tells me that the firmware is there and isn't buzzing or doing anything else weird so more than likely this is related to the battery and not having enough of a charge when running the official upgrade tool. This problem probably had already existed prior running the update tool and is why the S/W Upgrading screen only would come up AFTER being plugged into a power source and would disappear immediately. If the battery had any charge whatsoever and if the phone could see it then I would see a screen that tells me to plug my phone in and charge it. I am thinking this is solved but will only know after I charge the battery. From what I've been reading in comments from others the battery issue is prevalent on many different pantech phones including the burst model. Other people with the pantech burst have said in comments on Mike's blog that this made their phone boot right up and said that this was EXACTLY the issue. Perhaps the best way to use these pantech phones is to never ever let them fully discharge the battery.

Insignia Flex

Anybody have one? It's Best Buy's brand tablet.

(can't post a link...)
Just picked up a Flex 8 on Black Friday. Not bad for $80. Not sure if I'd pay full price for it though.
It seems good for the price so far, except I'm having a rough time trying to root it.
Anyone have one and root it?
Employee here and I had to pouch one up as well for the price of $80. Now to figure out root.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Let us know if you get it.
I've tried Bin4ry, doomlord, tpsparky, played around with it myself a bit. Still not luck. Closest I got is normal on Bin4ry. Just when it reboots, it has no root privaledges. su is in /data/local/tmp but it fails to do anything...
I haven't messed around with it until this very moment. I will admit that the price is killer but initial impression with the device could be better. I was impressed and I mean really impressed with its quadrant score. I'll root this device later today. Black Friday sales and I am tired.
---------- Post added at 01:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:18 AM ----------
I found a link to root this device on both ICS and jellybean. I will personally look into it tomorrow but I will post it if you would like to go ahead. The guide itself was written for ICS but later down the thread you will find another link to a working root for jellybean.
http://androidforums.com/insignia-flex-all-things-root/661247-how-root-insignia-flex.html
Please root at your own discresion and I sure hope you purchased a protection plan (GSP) for your tablet.
also picked this up at my BB, was surprised when i walked in at 3pm and they still had about 10. i want to root too
We had a large quantity to sell as well and they all went. It is honestly not half bad. And I would really recommend getting the GSP for the tablet in case of anything. Will report back after rooting.
Let us know if you have any luck. I found the link you posted before which led me to try Bin4ry. The script seems to be updated for JB in general but still had no luck. I'm on a Mac and haven't tried any of the windows rooting apps, like posted at the bottom of that thread. I do have a windows partition and would be willing to try that method if needed. That chinese one at the bottom seems shady regardless though.. I hope there is an alternative to that

I managed to get the CX-803 version of CWM for Rockchip 3066 from AndroTab.info to work by replacing its kernel with ours by unpacking and repacking with RK3xxx-Firmware-Tools by Sergio.
Note: This is for the Insignia NS-14T002 (aka iRiver NS-14T002) tablet that shipped with Android 4.2.2
Be EXTREMELY careful! Highly recommend you dump your current kernel and recovery partitions and save them somewhere before flashing anything.
If for some reason the recovery doesn't work, you can flash your stock recovery back as long as you can get back into root shell. But, if it fails to boot normally, I have no idea how to fix it. I have not been able to get any of the Rockchip flashing utilities to recognize the tablet so far, in bootloader mode (these devices have no fastboot) or otherwise. So don't blame me if you somehow brick your tablet.
You have been warned!!
CWM & Stock* Recovery image for NS-14T002
* if for some reason you can't back up your own, but again highly recommend backing up your existing recovery in case it's different from mine
You need root, and you need to do the install from root shell (don't forget to su) as described here.
I used /data/local instead of /dev - anywhere writable should be okay.
To boot into recovery:
adb reboot recovery
power off tablet, disconnect USB, press and hold Vol+ and Power until recovery comes up.
USB disconnect is not a strict requirement, but the battery status thing tends to get in the way.
In stock recovery, push Vol+ and Vol- simultaneously to bring up the menu. CWM menu should be visible at launch.
install petrus's Reboot App and use it to Reboot into recovery
Note: In CWM recovery you can swipe up for Vol+ (move up), swipe down for Vol- (move down), swipe left for Power (select), and swipe right for Back.

I actually just purchased one of these last night. It was on sale at Best Buy for $99! I have successfully rooted it and it actually works great! I used Kingo Root to root but first I installed pda net first to install the necessary drivers. I have used this program to root several Android devices and haven't had a problem thus far!

Great news! I didn't have luck with that one but it might have been the machine I was using at the time.
Just to confirm, your model came with Jellybean 4.2, Model NS-14T002?
The previous version with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 was easier to root.

Yes my device came with 4.2.2 Jelly Bean! My first attempt using Kingo Root it did not see my device. Windows would not install the drivers needed. So I installed PDA net for windows and choose other in the program and once it was done installing it had configured the necessary drivers for Kingo Root to find my tablet and it rooted fine within a couple minutes after that! :good:

I was wondering, because I rooted my insignia flex 8 tablet and downloaded an app to try and customize the navigation bar and the developer provided a way on how to do it but said it was risky and took the risk anyway. Unfortunately, after turning on my tablet, it gets stuck on the insignia logo which I'm assuming it is stuck in the boot screen. I emailed the developer on how to fix this and said to flash a ROM to it. But I am just wondering if I am able to still do this even if my tablet gets stuck on the boot screen and freezes. I used ultimate dynamic navbar lite to try and customize my navbar.

I don't have the tablet anymore as it was a gift for a family member that lives elsewhere (I just wanted root so I could remote control it with TeamViewer QuickSupport), but will try to help from my notes and memory.
Flashing ROM may be difficult.
There is no fastboot on these Rockchip devices...
I couldn't find a way to flash without it being bootable and accessible via ADB
None of the Rockchip flashing tools would recognize it, even when I thought I got it booted into flash mode - it loaded drivers, but the flash tools still didn't see it.
The only way I know how to flash is to use a flash tool via ADB root shell.
Have you tried plugging it into USB on computer and booting it? Even if it doesn't reach the launcher, maybe it is accessible from ADB?
If you can access ADB, you may be able to reverse whatever the app changed from ADB shell and uninstall the app. (Politely ask the author for help)
You might be able to flash the system image I took too, but that has potential to brick it even worse.
If you have custom recovery loaded, you should just be able to restore from a backup.
If you don't have custom recovery loaded, things get a little more hairy...
You can try booting into Safe mode, maybe it'll bypass the offending app.
Power off tablet
Unplug USB*
Press and hold Vol- and Power until (hopefully) it completely boots
Try booting into standard recovery and see what your options are there - Factory Reset might help (depends what was changed and where)
Power off tablet
Unplug USB*
Press and hold Vol+ and Power until recovery comes up (Android with open chest)
Press Vol+ and Vol- simultaneously to bring up the menu.
* while unplugging USB isn't really required, because a battery app launches shortly afterward, it can make getting into recovery and safe mode more difficult
The folks over at Freaktab and Vondroid are really the experts at this Rockchip stuff.
For reference, the platform is RK3066, but there are many variations of the platform (different WiFi, memory configuration, etc) so you can't just grab any ROM.
Thank you!

Did you get things sorted out?
If anyone is interested or needs it, Insignia sent me the GPL source.
You can also request it directly from them like it says on the website but it took a week or two (they might not have had a procedure in place yet, the agent had to forward my request to a different department) and I had completely forgotten until an unexpected package arrived.

Just thought someone might want to know, kingo root works, updated to 4.4.2, Booster plus battery saver pro is worth the money, better than 3c so far, still looking for more sources, any advice or help is appreciated especially for a recovery, dual bootloaders, ugh

I actually just purchased one of these last night. It was on sale at Best Buy for $99! I have successfully rooted it and it actually works great! I used Kingo Root to root but first I installed pda net first to install the necessary drivers. I have used this program to root several Android devices and haven't had a proble
Can I install drivers without PC?

[Q] CWM on new Blu Life Play

Hi all,
I've spent a good two hours trying to figure this out. Generally I'm pretty good at these things, but there just isn't that much action or information on the Blu Life Play when things go wrong (L100a)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370987
In reference to the above link, I followed all instructions to a T. My phone is rooted just fine, all that is working perfectly. However, once I tried installing CWM using the first method, mobileuncle, not only did it fail, but it also entirely broke my recovery mode! Whenever I try to boot into recovery (vol+/power) I get a black screen until the phone eventually reboots itself.
I then tried method two using the flashing tool, SPFT. I used something similar pretty often, ODIN, with my old Samsung Epic. Again I run into a problem: I can't keep the phone connected long enough to allow SPFT to finish flashing the recovery. As instructed, I plug in the USB cable with the battery out, my computer chimes to let me know it has recognised the device, but- Three seconds later, it chimes again to let me know it has disconnected.
SPFT follows suit, detecting and starting the flash then getting interrupted 2 seconds later.
My phone is still able to boot, it is not bricked. However, it is very distressing to have no access to a recovery mode.
Help?
I have the same issue. Got my phone replaced under warranty and the new one I got yesterday will not boot to recovery. Only black screen. Hopefully we can figure out the issues.

Hey, it's good to hear I'm not alone in this. lopestom has been friendly enough to correspond with me about it and he suspects it's a new model of the same phone. I sent him a screen cap of the factory settings screen (VOL-/POW)
In the end we might be out of luck until more people get their hands on the new version of the phone.

Unbricking a Hardbricked Asus TF300T

Alrighty, I seem to have hardbricked my transformer, after rooting and unlocking it I attempted to install Ubuntu Touch on it. ( Found out that Ubuntu Touch kinda sucks and I prefer Android for now)
During the restoring process some bad stuff happened, long story short i lost my backups. I then tried to restore it to stock firmware with ADB/Fastboot and the firmware from the asus website.
During the restore process the cable got disconnected from the computer, when I tried to start the process again my PC couldn't recognize my tablet and my tablet could not boot at all, not even into recovery.
From what I've read about my tablet I can only assume that it is now currently hardbricked. When I hit the power button nothing happens, when I try power button and vol-down nothing happens, same with vol-up. Reset button doesn't do squat.
I'm gonna try unbricking it even though I'm pretty sure I'm out of luck.
If you guys have any suggestions that can help me out, I'll be refreshing this thread every few minutes to see what you guys have to say.
And if you have any questions about what I'm doing or how I've messed it up so badly I'll try to answer them.
Wish me luck!
Edit: Alright, I can get into APX however I don't have any backups. From what I've read I can't use other people's Flatline backups to fix my own tablet, can anyone confirm or deny that?
Regardless, is there a way that I can use NVFlash to directly flash the system with the stock blob or am I just completely out of luck?

Buy a new logic board. It's not too expensive.
With only APX mode and no nvflash files you are hardbricked. Period.

I had a feeling that was the case, I'll make sure to use Flatline once I get it so it doesn't get this bad again.

[Q] Hard Bricked LG G3.

The issue with my phone.
I can't get into Download mode, computer won't pick it up and non of the buttons work. So I can't just flash a new rom.
It happened when I was trying to install This(I was being stupid and didn't look at the device.) So is there a way to fix it?
Things I tried and have
I have tried ADB, and fast boot they all get stuck waiting for the device (on every port).
I have the laf file. BUT here is the main issue my computer won't pick it up rendering the laf file useless.
I have looked on the forums and all methods purposed. Were for 32 bit computers or didn't work.
Signs of Life (Update One)
It just showed signs of life. It was dead so I charged it and the LED was flashing red and it charged now it is back to black screen and now sign of life though. I tried ADB on my tablet (didn't work) so I know the ADB issue might be my computer. That is good news because it means there is a chance of fixing it.
I am going to try to use ADB on my other computer to see if that works. If it does then there may be a chance of fixing it.

I looked into the zip that you tried to flash, and it looks like it flashed the mmcblk0p5 partition, which on the G3 is aboot (and I believe is why even download mode is broken). You can get a clean aboot.img from the thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/development/rom-lg-d850-20f-lollipop-5-0-1-extras-t3052041) , but you will have to have some way to flash it. Are you able to get into anything at all on the phone itself, recovery even?
@southern87 : maybe you can provide some insight. I remember in the Lounge a while back you had a broken aboot. Where you ever able to get back to download mode or some other way to repair aboot?

Thanks for responding. I am going to try ADB again but I can't get into recovery mode at the time being.
A similar thing just happened to me, except I got right out of it. Device was completely unresponsive, no download mode, adb nothing, indicative of a hard brick. Scared the **** out of me as I've had it less than 6 hours... Started holding buttons, and it came to life after ~1 minute of power button + volume down. Related? Well maybe not, thought I'd post it here. (TWRP 2.8.5 + Rooted CM12)
True Hard Brick, No OS!
Well I really did it this time. F*cked up big time. Wiped everything on phone, all I have is TWRP which is useless. Nothing. No bootloader, no sideloader, NO files! Guess I'll try to get into download mode.
Anyone have any ideas? Would be greatfull for any help.

Thanks hyelton, I don't even have download mode. Nothing, zero, (no).zip, zilch, nada. Guess I'll run it up to the AT&T Corporate store & see how much $s they'll charge to put it back to stock.

They don't put it bAck to stock.. They either will tell you no as you voided warranty or it will be sent off for warranty. They don't flash in store.
You have to have download mode to flash.
So your plugging your phone inTo a non USB 3.0 plug using the OEM LG cable while holding volup and then plugging in the USB cable?

Yes, AT&T said they would replace it for $199.00. Screw that. they gave me the phone # for LG, I will call them & see how much they charge to reinstall the OS. Yes, plugging into 2.0 usb while holding vol up with phone off. No sign of life.

Yes, if only it was that easy.
There are a few things you can try :
1.) Press the Powerbutton for a longer time
If you have a responce like the LG Logo or something like that, you might want to try and plug it to the computer and use the managing software
with which you can emergency reinstall the firmware.
2.) Press Power + Volume Down
If it restarts into the recovery menu, try to find a way to load a flashable stock rom of your handy onto the memory of your phone in order to "reflash" it.
(I don't know how you can do that )
3.) Go to the shop where you bought it and explain your problem, since rooting a LG device is not really easy to detect the chances that your warranty will cover for it are pretty high.
