Buying Used: Factory Defects to Look for - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I'm hopefully buying a used oneplus one today... I was wondering what factory defects I should keep an eye out for when inspecting the phone?
Thanks!

Some of the inferior models were released with a slightly different style but you can easily spot them because they were given a different branding also--they are marked "iPhone 6S."

[Q] HTC One S or wait?

Well, as most of you know, the HTC One X+ was announced today. Would it be stupid to buy an One S or should I wait for a One S+?
Many Thanks,

I just got this phone yesterday and I love it. imo I think the one x looks better but I love how compact this phone is for how big the screen is. cant go wrong that. as far as im concerned the one x+ still isn't too much of an upgrade besides its hd screen
I think you can't go wrong with either. The One X does feel good and solid and the bigger screen is awesome too. But the One S is so thin and sexy; even with a case. I went back to stock for the new update and this thing is even faster.
In my opinion, the only reason somebody would get a One X is because of the bigger screen. Even though the One is is marketed below the One X, it certainly does not feel or operate like it.
I don't think there will be a One S+. The way I see it, the One X+ was a small bump that gave the US a non-LTE but Tegra3 version. If you want the big screen, I would wait, but I'm really happy with the One S for the already stated reasons.
These can be found for $250 on craigslist. Buy it now sell it later without losing a dime.

Beware buying sh!t on Craigslist, especially phones. Make sure you have the device running before a purchase. But who the hell would want to buy a phone on Craigslist anyway?!

I purchase both my Nexus One and my Nexus S on craigslist. Its up to the buyer to make sure they don't get scammed. I take someone with me so I don't get robbed/jumped and I make sure the phone is working and I can make a call before money is even shown. Craigslist is a wonderful place to get stuff. The only people that get scammed on there are the gullible ones.

I just got a new one from craigslist a couple days ago, nothing wrong with getting stuff off of CL.. especially since phones come with a 1 year manufacture warranty if there is a issue with it (besides cracked screens).
Just bought HTC One S from a "nice" dude I found on Craigslist. The guy apparently works for T-Mobile, and we completed the transaction at a T-Mobile store. I paid $275 for a brand new HTC One S. I wanted a Galaxy S3 originally but getting a One S for around 60% of a GS3 price feels good. It's a good phone for the price for sure.
HTC One S is a great phone, if you enjoy compacted efficiency.
This phone is great IMO it all comes down to what you like, go on YouTube watch some reviews and see what you think.

You can always rendezvous with the craiglist seller in a bank or ATM machines as there are always camera's there and you can verify the phone is legit and then get the money from the ATM and that way if you ever have to file a complaint, you will have the time and hopefully the camera captured you and the seller doing the transaction in the bank lobby

or you can have the guy meet you outside your house and set up a camera haha
As much as this Craigs list thing is hijacking the thread I suppose I'll participate..Just meet inside a McDonald's. Public, cameras, plenty to choose from. But always, always put your SIM and micro sd in and check all functions first.

So can anyone answer the question about the differences between the 2 one S versions in terms of reliability?

Custom Case Cover

Hey!
I would like to purchase a case with a picture of my son.
All the sites I've been to that offer this (via google) said they are "sold out" on skyrocket.. constantly.
Anyone knows where can I purchase a case cover with my own picture?
Thanks!
R.

My guess is that you might be SOL on this one. This is an almost two year old phone. Not sure anyone is still producing stuff for this phone since they have more current devices and future devices to prepare for.

Yeah but the iPhone 4 and 4s were by and large the same and produced in much greater numbers than the i727, which was specific to only two carriers.

[Q] Is it a good time to buy a Nexus 5 (Defects)?

Well so basically I have been considering gifting my mint S3 to my sister since she needs a phone and I have been thinking about getting the Nexus 5 for a while, almost pulled the trigger today but did a little research and was shocked by so many units coming out with defects which concerns me since I am studying abroad in the Dominican Republic and its very complicated to go trough a RMA process. I am considering the 32gb black model from the USA play store, from what I have heard Google/LG have done a few improvements to serial number 312k. I would like to know if under these circumstances is it a good time to buy a Nexus 5? What are the chances of getting a 312k serial unit?
I just cannot understand how can so many units come defective, I have yet to see an iPhone with these kind of issues but it is not just an LG issue, many manufacturers are suffering from this.

I got to say I am starting to get quite skeptical about the defends vs the prima donnas in this forum. I ordered my first one after reading after all the threads and it was flawless. Then I ordered a second one and it also came flawless. What are the chances I am just that lucky?

Wait for half a year. Then go for it. That's June. Almost guaranteed you will have no defects.
And @cas8180 you just got major ****ing lucky with those two. I envy you. I got light bleeds.

New HTC One - Should I sell it?

Hi all,
I bought the HTC One yesterday, I got a good deal cut price of £210 I'm in the UK (London). I previously had the Nexus 4, but I wanted something better looking, this phone certainly fits the bill. I posted on the suggest device thread before, most recommended the HTC One a week ago.
Today, I'm reading some threads in the HTC One section and it looks scary the amount of problems all kinds people are experiencing.
What is the root of all these problems? Is it to do with custom ROMs? I'm a simple user, I've never used anything but default/STOCK what the phone comes with.
The phone is still brand new. Should I sell it next week, get my money back and buy a Nexus 5?
If I don't update to 4.4.2 will it be safe to use?
Please advise, asap, thanks.
I'm referring to posts like cracking sounds with the speaker, loud speaker turning on by itself, purple tint on camera.

If you don't mod your phone, it's unlikely you'll run into any of the problems people here talk about. Get the Nexus 5 if you want it, but don't sell the One just because people have a lot of problems with it. It's a really great device and you just bought it so not really worth it.
There are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.

Coming from two LG G2, looking for a low-maintenance easy going >$100 phone

Hi guys and gals,
I'm at my second LG G2 since end 2015. Both phones let me down with their screens being jumpy and having ghost touch issues... I can't take it anymore.
Could you recommend to me a good reliable old model you loved I can buy for > $100?
I'd like something with a past and may be still active community base, coupled with having some good custom ROMs, battery life and decent speed for multitasking but no games. In OS terms, it's KitKat or Nougat. I can't stand Lollipop.
Like everyone, I dislike mostly UI lag and a temperamental brat. Open-minded and low-maintenance and easy going is definitely my type.
You saw my previous choices for the G2 despite its age so I think you'll understand where my preference goes.
I'm in France thus old models are still expensive compared to other parts of the world.
Oh and to add to the difficulty of the task, I don't have a computer anymore and can't afford to buy one for a foreseeable future, all the cooking has to be done without one obviously.
After reading this you probably think I should get a third G2...???
I hope I haven't forgotten any relevant piece of information. Thanks.
Lol, have a bricked G2 that has the same issue bud, that sh*t was annoying!!!
My advice? Nexus 5 was $99
OnePlusOne or 2 maybe,
Htc m7 or if you find an m8 that is quite a stable device in my experience ,
Hope that gives ya a few ideas to play with.

Yes. That'll teach me to think probability theory and for being stubborn.
Nexus 5. I couldn't find one at the price you mentioned. I only have access to eBay, Amazon being somewhat erratic about international shipping availability.
OnePlus One. That one had my preference however it's out of my league price wise.
HTC M7 or M8. I'll have a look. Thanks for the suggestions.
We have a dedicated thread for this here

Thanks for understanding
