Hi all
I have a XT1032 that I purchased from the Orange online store last year. I decided to give the official Lollipop update a go but I'm really not liking it. I want to revert back to either the stock 4.4.4 ROM or possibly a custom 4.4.4 ROM.
So far I've unlocked the bootloader on my device with no issues but I'm having some trouble flashing a custom recovery.
I've tried flashing the latest TWRP for MotoG (http://teamw.in/devices/motorolamotog2013.html) using fastboot but when I try to boot into the recovery the device just switches off. I also tried with the older TWRP 2.6.3.0 release for MotoG and have the same issue, as does CWT 6.0.47
Has anyone run into this issue before? Does anyone have any advice on how to solve the problem?
Try 2.8.1.0 TWRP when you in bootloader menu you must vol- to recovery and vol+ to enter recovery not power button

Thanks! I feel like a complete nub, I didn't read the bootloader screen properly or I'd have realized what I was doing wrong, I'm so used to every other device I've used (HTC, Samsung, SE) using power to select bootloader menu items

I've tried many times to flash CWM or TWRP and the phone keep booting back into android as normal no matter what I try?
It's a UK retail handset (bought from phones4U).
Has anyone else had this issue? I want to flash 4.4.2 onto it, but need custom recovery to do it!
Many thanks

What method's have to tried to root the device and were you able to root ?
I had this same problem on my Motorola Atrix HD. I had to rename the default recovery file by adding .bak to the file name using Root Explorer. Not sure if that would be the case here.

Are you sure recovery has not been installed, just a thought when in bootloader you select recovery with vol key - and enter with the vol key, then the screen looks as it is booting into white moto g logo then into recovery. If you select the revovery option with Power key the phone will reboot, I hope this is the case. I have flashed many times.
Trying to install CyanogenMod for my razr maxx HD. Recently used RSDlite to install 183.46.10 after OTA KK update kept failing. Then used towelroot to root and motopocalype to unlock bootloader. Fastboot screen shows bootloader is unlocked with status code: 3.
I then followed the instructions on the CyanogenMod site to flash CWM 6.0.4.4 recovery using fastboot, and all appeared to work fine.
However, when I try to reboot into recovery, nothing happens. I get hung up on the motorola dual core flashscreen for about a minute or two, then the screen goes black, then the phone reboots normally.
I tried flashing a different copy of CWM, tried TRWP, and tried several third party apps from Google Play store to boot directly into recovery using software reboot instead of hardware keys - all with the same results. I even tried flashing custom CWM recovery using ROM Manager and Rashr, same result.
Do I have a corrupt recovery partition? Any suggestions for how to fix?
You need to install a recovery for that phone specifically.

Use the recovery files found here.
Edit: on the site I posted, browse to the msm8690 folder. There you will find the recovery files.

Thanks, guys, total noob mistake. I knew the recovery needed to be specific for the phone, but didn't realize it varied depending on the bootloader. Will try again with the right recovery!

Those recovery aren't sticking for me. Does anyone have a suggestion to fix that issue.
Pushing the buttons doesn't work.
The only thing that is working is place the phone in fastboot mode and flash the recovery to my device three time and then I will go straight in recovery and there it is.

Your phone has been upgraded to Kit Kat and the bootloader unlocked, correct? The two recoveries linked to are for phones that already have already been upgraded to KK.
If so, power off your phone.
Then, hold down volume up and then press and hold power. After a few seconds, let go and the boot menu should come up.
Use Volume down to select "Recovery" and then hit "Volume Up". That should boot you into the custom recovery, depending on which one you flashed.
I prefer TWRP. CWM seemed buggy and it wouldn't always boot into it. A lot of times, I'd get a blank screen and would have to reflash it.
Another option is, when it's booted up, hooked up your phone to your pc and use adb to reboot it into recovery using "adb reboot recovery".

Yep.. I had some issue with my devices. I tried the update well root and the devices didn't want to boot up anymore. So I had to RSD lite the devices back to health. So I do have the latest software for the devices. I guess. I am going to use Twrp since you say it boots fine from the boot menu.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If not, that is your problem. You need to root, and then unlock the bootloader before you can flash TWRP and use CM.

Yes my bootloader is unlocked. Have code 3 on the devices.
try and unplug from USB when you reboot
Finally got around to unlocking my device with SunShine and was looking forward to installing a Moto X rom. Installed PhilZ recovery and set about cleaning the phone state to I could install rom. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect to the phone with ADB in PhilZ while trying to sideload the rom. I reboot my phone to try again and now I can't seem to get past the unlocked bootloader warning. Holding Vol+ and Power isn't taking me to recovery. Fastboot cable doesn't either. Any ideas?

Hold vol- and power for 3 secs then let go of vol- keep holding power for another 3secs then let go. That should get you to bootloader. Then scroll using vol-, use vol+ to select. If you plan on running ghost (Moto x) roms only then you need to use Phils touch ghost build and cm12 patch.
Did you nandroid your stock rom, if so restore and boot up then just plug in the phone and transfer roms/gapps. I never used adb sideload as it is easier just to download directly to the phone...just don't wipe internal storage
Yeah, it's always super difficult to get my phone into recovery for some reason. I backed up my original files, but removed them when trying to get the new rom installed by accident -.-
EDIT: finally got Mini into recovery but the same issue with not being seen by adb is here. I'm not sure how to proceed as Moto Device Mgr is installed and when I plug/unplug the device I hear a chime.
going to use fastboot to start from scratch and get rid of philz. thanks anyway guys.
you cannot ADB from Philz... or at least mine doesnt let me either.
I wonder how you made out with this issue.
I wanted to say, you're doing it wrong. I run the Moto-X ROM on my Maxx. Piece of cake.
You do must use Philz recovery. From your booted stock ROM connect your phone to your PC and copy the ROM, gapps and CM11 Patch, (SuperSU also) to your phone into the Download folder. To boot into fastboot is simple, press and hold vol- and pwr, I do about 5 secs and release the pwr button. Vol- to recovery and press vol+ to select.
Install zips from there, ROM, then gapps, then patch, then SuperSU. All done.
Hi! I'm trying to install a cm rom in my xt926, I have the bootloader and, aparently, I can flash properly the custom recovery, but when I try to reboot onto recovery it doesn't work, shows the motorola logo and, after 1 or 2 minutes, reboot normally, and I canĀ“t enter the recovery to flash the cm rom... Anyone can help me? I don't know what else to do... A lot of thanks.
Sorry for my bad english
I have this Problem as well! Stock KK on XT926 build 183.46.10.XT926.Verizon.en.US. I've tried all the methods I could find.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If it is and you can really flash recovery while in fastboot mode - what do you do after that? Reboot the phone into Android and then try to reboot into recovery? If you're doing that, then that's the problem.
You need to reboot to recovery straight from fastboot, otherwise the stock system deletes the custom recovery. When you flash the recovery - unplug the cable and just press the power button once and the phone will turn off. Then hold Volume UP + Power and the boot menu will show up and then you select recovery and you should be good to go
Solved!
I've found the solution! I've flashed the wrong recovery. My stock rom is kit kat 4.4.2, this recovery works very fine

I unlocked the bootloader using the instructions from the Sony developer site. It worked, and then I flashed the recovery software using the flash tool, Emma, but when I press the buttons to boot in recovery mode, instead of this, my OS resets, like factory reset, or it doesn't boot, just vibrates. I don't know what to do. I want to try cyanogenmod and I want to flash it, but without recovery I can't, and it's possible to find on the Sony site the stock rom in case I want to come back to the stock OS? And something else. After the reset, the OS looks different. I have features that I didn't have before

You have to upgrade your bootloader via Emma and flash the recovery.img via fastboot.
Thank you. I flashed a TWRP recovery and it worked.
cannot boot into twrp recovery

No notification led and illumination bar blinking after rebooting device. I tried combination of power button + volume up or power button + volume down. Used Titanium backup to reboot into recovery. Ran adb command to reboot into recovery all failed.

installed the multiple recovery for xperia m2 and it worked well. Illuminating blue light comes up during boot. Then i hold the volume up button and it turns green which allows me to boot into recovery
