My first app... - Android Apps and Games

It's called HereIam, it's the one with a globe and a big arrow pointing at it. Not allowed links yet...
It automatically sends a message if you are at a prefefined location. (handy if you're a cyclist), and a few other location type things.
I made it as a way of learning how to make apps.
Extra things I didnt expect to learn...
I'm rubbish at making pretty screens.
How different your app looks/behaves on different phones in real life. (I found that I had to buy a crappy phone just to test on)
Some things are a lot easier than you'd expect. (eg Mapping).
Some things are a lot harder than you'd expect. (eg sending an email from your app).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.happyapper.HereIamFree
Tried it, it's amazing, having few force close issues at times though, but that's probably an user error. Good effort. Posted the link for you

Stupid question that is probably more of a rant...

Ok, so we all have the latest greatest most "open source" phone, right? LMFAO
Why is it, seeing as battery life is complete CRAP, that programs are not smart enough to be able to turn on and off the wifi, gps, wireless networks, etc as needed? When I open google maps, it should start up the GPS. When I try to get on the web, it would be nice if it could check for pre-configured wifi. When those programs are exited, or after an inactive time limit, the wifi, gps, etc should shut back down. It seems silly to fumble around in settings to turn things on and off all the time.
Since this is a problem with Google's software, I assume they will continue to support the "not our problem, let the developers figure it out" stand, while locking us out of the ability for a fix.
Am I the only one that thinks this way?
I completely agree! I am greatly disappointment in the direction Android is going. Leaving everything to 3rd party developers and then locking root access, yeah, really smart move! As soon as T-Mobile USA releases a 3G pocket pc, I am so gone. I would have left my HTC Wizard behind for another device (and G1) but I'm stuck with this strange 3G AWS frequency and no real option for a WM device except what my provider offers. Google still has a chance to fix this issues for Android but I am very impatient with things in general. One day, it could be a great OS but as of right now and the way the road looks ahead is a dismal path to possible destruction. My suggestions to Google would be to jailbreak all devices, create your OWN soft keyboard so all programs can be used with it, ADD SOME KIND OF OFFICE SUPPORT, add support for your own software (built in) to be able to control all settings (like speed racer mentioned), video recorder, better camera options, and better Marketplace support. Again, this is a new mobile OS and it will evolve somewhat but if things continue to happen in the same path or pattern, failure is practically the only option.

Hi, download Locale or Power Manager.
I have seen both, and they are good....but they dont do what I am asking.
NATIVE support. Its like Google has all these different departments, and none want to work with the others. Everything needs to be streamlined together, maps should be able to turn on and off resources....instead of me doing it with my keypad. Who chooses to leave GPS on all day? Same with Wifi?
I am fed up with Google thinking everyone needs to do the grunt work. They cant even get their own software working properly (for example, try using the search function in maps, then try to get directions to that search...good luck!) and instead of USEFUL updates, we get updates that RESTRICT us.

Hmm... seems pretty easy for me? Open maps application, start typing your search (e.g. "starbucks mountain view"). List of locations comes up. I tap one, it shows location on map. Tap on the address and it brings up menu. Choose Directions to this Address and click Route button.
true...but if you simply click on "directions" and type in the exact same items you searched before, it suddenly forgot how to search.
For example, if I search for "pdx" or "gresham" on the maps, no problem. But, when I click "directions" and type in the same thing, it cant find it. It cant do a search and come up with a list of results? Google cant? LMAO. Seriously? I guess I need to do a search, write down the results. Then do another search, get directions, and type in the previous location that I wrote down. Pretty handy if you ask me!
Never had this issue with the desktop version of google maps. I can type in "gresham" and "PDX" and it can get me there. On the phone, it cant figure it out.
Apparently no one can read or understand what has been said. Google hasn't left it to 3rd parties, they are working on these things as we speak. It is in their "roadmap"
OK so it doesn't do everything your home computer can. Why can't you give it time. Why did you buy something that is brand new if you weren't ready to be patient? That is like the people who claim Vista sucks just because they used the beta version and had problems.
Give it time. As for directions are you talking about Gresham, OR? I get directions just find typing pdx and then gresham, or
Obviously you have to type the state for the city, also that little bookmark icon can be usefull... just search for the two things you want first (PDX then do a search for gresham) then use the history bookmark to add those to the direction. Worked simple that way too.
And guess what... I also can use copy and paste too... wow I guess there are many ways to do it you just have to figure it out.

No, it's not an open source phone (and I don't think google or T-mobile have said that the G1 would be), but the _software_ is. If you want a totally open phone, you should be looking towards the openmoko platform, or the dev version of the G1 that google have now announced.

If Google was up front and said that it wasnt ready yet (why are WE the beta testers?) that would be one thing, but the way it is marketed in commercials and on the website, this is a phone that is ready for mass use. It is very much still in beta.
The problem with your "its not a home computer" logic is that is CAN do the functions I am referring to. It just doesnt. I used bad examples- try using something like "denny's" instead. In a search it will pull them up, but in the "directions" it will not. Apparently if there are more than one result it gets confused. My example was bad.
I have been patient, the updates so far have done nothing (for my phone at least) but fix problems and patch loopholes. There has been nothing updated that improves functionality that I have seen yet. I found their roadmap- Looks like some soft keyboard functionality next year, and more supported languages. Who hoo.

Don't get mad a google for marketing... the commercial doesn't even say that it is google's OS... it just says Powered By Google. It blows for them.
And for the maps... I haven't been able to get either the phone or desktop to map the locations for me. Besides that doesn't it make more sense to figure out where the dennys is before getting directions to it?
It hasn't even been a month in a half yet and you think you are patient. I don't remember any significant updates to any OS in the first month it was out.
I guess my point is that tmobile (not Google apparently) released a phone that isnt ready for the general public. It should be in beta still, until the bugs (like a battery that lasts half a day under light use, calls that do not ring through, messages that dont show up, and ringtones that sometimes work and sometimes dont) are fixed. There are many problems with the phone and the OS and if you cant admit that I dont know what to say. If you are happy then fine, but not all of us are. We did NOT sign up for beta testing, if we had then there is no issue.
Sounds to me that someone should have done a little bit of research before purchasing their phone? I mean, come on! It hasn't even been 2 months yet. Maybe a razr would fit your likings more? Tmobile has plenty of those.
I say if you aren't gonna get out there & learn to write your own apps to make it the phone you want it to be, don't complain. No one held a gun to your head & said buy the phone or else. You bought into the hype. Deal with it.
No one is perfect the first time out the gates. You should have known this if you came from a windows mobile device previously. Microsoft has been at it for how many years & they still haven't gotten all the bugs & kinks out. If you think you can do better than google, I'm all in! Lets see what you got. Till then, buy a phone that doesn't have all the hype you want. Then you won't be setting yourself up for disappointment.
I haven't had any issues with this phone. So you can't save apps to the SD (YET) but that can be fixed. So your battery isn't the best (YET) but that can be fixed. Give it time. You didn't come sprinting out your mothers womb did you? Didn't think so. Let Android learn to crawl before you expect it to run hundred yard dashes

That is funny... I had all those issues on my wing... guess I should go complain in the herald forums about my beta testing that device too.
I admit it has errors... but that doesn't mean it is the worse phone ever made like you make it out to be.
Yeah go complain at the Herald forums! They'll just tell you that you're an idiot and to unlock your phone and flash a new ROM on it. Oh wait... you can actually do that with a wing and not this pos and it actually ends up being a decent pda. That's the difference... and yes a lot of this anger comes from people with stock RC30. Also, to the dude who wipes his ass with money, lol, a lot of tmo. customers didn't have much of a choice for pdas with 3g. It's not a matter of not having the facts but the expectations were very high for this os and phone seemed to have fallen quite short. I'm not going to repeat what the shortcomings are... for they have been hammered into our skulls enough already but Google basically copied a lot of things from different mobile OS and seem to have forgotten the basics and left them out. They other thing is they won't admit any mistakes were made but simply state that they will be left to 3rd developers. After that, a security update was pushed out that locked root. How will or why should this affect developers? Well, there are several applications that only be used on rooted devices and this number will continue to rise. Several developers have quit trying to port over a few applications because of this and the crappy java layers used on android. And finally, T-mobile, google, and htc all claim that this is an open source device and os. It used to be.... the security flaw was announced on every tech blog and web site so basically google (yes google!) Sent a quick patch to fix it and now open source is dead essentially. I guaranty that root will be locked down on every other android device released next year. I know we will find a way to unlock everything here but it's just bs and you guys know it. Of course, no fanyboys will admit it while having their lips firmly placed on google's ass. It's not open source and it won't be until we unlock root ourselves. And now one can argue with me until the next android device comes out. Yes, it is its infancy but it really seems more like a beta. Just disappointed like many others. It's such a stable OS and has a lot of potential but a lot of basic things have been left out, nothing less or nothing more...
I'm sorry, can you show me where T-mobile and HTC claim the G1/Dream is an "open source device" please? I haven't seen anything from either company stating that the G1 would be open source. Android, on the other hand _is_ open, and while, yes I will agree that it's frustrating that you need to "hack" the device to be able to use it to it's full potential, Google have addressed this by releasing the "dev" handsets. Ultimately, as a previous poster has pointed out no-one forced you into picking up the G1, and as you've discovered, frustration often comes with picking up bleeding edge hardware.
So basically your mad at htc/google/tmobile cuz you neglected to read the specs on their websites? Damn my headlight just went out on my car. I'm gonna go yell at chrystler for not putting a better bulb in it! Your forgetting to realize what I stated before, no one forced you! You can piss & moan all you want but again as I stated before, make your own apps to make it the phone you want it to be! So you want 3g? Why? Cuz its faster? Umm I forgot where htc/google/tmobile said this was a laptop? Can you show me? Cuz last time I checked, it was still a cell phone. 3g is a novelty. I don't live in a 3g area so maybe I'm just speaking on deaf ears. I by no means am a fanboy of htc. If tmobile got that touch blackberry, i'd be all over it like white on rice! Be angry but all your gonna get is white hairs & wrinkles. Its wasted energy. Take a seat & wait for android to grow & then you may speak. Or go out & do it better than google. Make your own os. Let's see how you do your first time out
And as far as the unlocking & flashing, how long did it take for that to be a reality? I wasn't there from the start of windows mobile but I'm pretty sure people weren't able to do that right out the box. It is a skill that needed to be learned, as with Android. Maybe you'll research your device better next time.
so I can write apps that will make me not to miss calls when they dont ring through? Will help battery life? Will keep me from missing messages?
I AM TALKING ABOUT THE ROOT GOOGLE SOFTWARE not just apps. Have you heard me complain about a video recorder? A video player? no, because those CAN BE FIXED. How do we change the way Google maps works? WE dont...Google does.
The OS itself is very nice. Coming from WM6.1 the stability is great. I dont need to reboot daily, constantly shut down programs, etc. I understand that WM has been around forever, I had a tmobile PPC2003, so I have been around this stuff for a bit. Android is new, given time it will get better. But I am missing calls NOW. I am constantly charging my battery NOW. These things are important as it is a "phone" after all. The roadmap addresses NONE of these things, just some multi language support and a keyboard.
I am quite sure that there will be many more replies to how f'd up my thinking is, but I am done. I am at the point where all I can do is repeat myself. Its NOT ready yet, and there are MAJOR things that need fixes.

No, you DO fix the problem - you file a bug with google, and if you have the skills, a patch that fixes the problem, if it's all ok, then it'll get accepted into the source and fixed.
The only problem is, that as T-mobile have (I assume) insisted that the G1 is locked, google need to compile the release for you.
please, go read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source and, if you can return your G1, I don't think it's the phone you want.

Need an app developed for the T9193? Anyone interested?

Guys, I'm interested in buying this phone http://negrielectronics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=9193&order=relevance&dir=desc but my problem is my eyesight and I need something that enlarges everything on the phone. NOT just the font when you write or something.
Less space between icons, utilizing the space better and instead of like the way the iphone was (sample)
John Smith 888-444-555
Have something more like this
John Smith 888-444-555
You know, use the space instead of just wasting it.
I tried years ago with my LG 9800 putting people's pics on there so I could see who was calling and still, they wouldn't let me use the whole screen for the picture but only a small portion in the middle.
With the help of one of the guys here, I found this http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/advanced-configuration-tool.html but of course, unless I have the phone, I can't test it.
The same guy suggested I get someone here to help me and write something for me so here I am.
I found this DROID app that says "Font Size globally enlarges text in all apps (Email, SMS, Maps, Home, Weather, Calendar, Widgets, ...)."
That's kinda what I want but possibly even bigger icons to boot.
Now, for my use and where I am, I have been recommended the 9193 so it would be great if someone here that has one could do something and show me how big things can get (if this is possible).
Thanks
George
Hi George and welcome.
I am sure someone on XDA can help you out.
I will move your thread to the Themes and Apps forum where you will probably get a better response.
Good luck with this venture, hope you find what you seek.
WB
Thank you Mr. Banana sir
I hope I can get some help too. Man, I can't believe this should be so hard. I mean, I'm not the only ol' fart around am I?
'preciate it
Oh, and I changed the title since you moved it.
Thanks again
George
There is a global "text size" setting which can be changed in WM. It will change the text for most of the system. Unfortunately some programs do not obey this setting and will default to small fonts - there's not much you can do about those programs though rather than get the developer to rewrite them.
I´m using zoo(o)mer a program that enlarges your sight.
Just try .
Guys, I don't have the actual phone nor do I have access to one.
Is there anyone here that can do this and show me a screen capture or something?
Ideally, putting it on a scanner and scanning it would be great. That way the size of the unit is accurate and I can compare it to other phones.
Thanks
George
Get one and add stuff
I have the T9193 and Zoomer is about your best bet at the moment, it will allow pinching to enlarge in most programs and areas in the phone.
When it comes to the phone calls etc there are some great apps developed on here that enlarge keys etc and use the vast space of the screen so blokes like us can see to do what we need to do without glasses.....mostly.
I use Iconsoft Phonex 2.2 for the dialer app, everything is nice and large!
Zoomer works great.
The phone is brilliant so get one add zoomer and Phonex and you will be very happy.....mostly...there will be the odd spot to annoy you but you will be able to live with it.
Well, I may have to take your word for it and of course, if I don't like it, I can just send the phone to you for a refund, right?
Seriously though, that sounds good.
Don't suppose you're in a position to do some screen captures, video or a scan of the phone so I can see what I'm doing?
Where do I get the zoomer and phoenix and how much are they?
Are you running 6.5 on there and is there anything different in 7?
Thanks guys
George
PhoneEx is good. But when I try to send an email from the contact of PhoneEx, "send from" will be "outlook mail'. Is it possible to change it to "hotmail", if yes, how?
Thanks a lot!
Is outlook mail the only choice?
Mind you, I would probably do it directly from the server like I do now but still, I hate outlook
give it a search... im quite sure there are lots of solutions instead of using outlook.
(p.s. I dont have mobile internet plan so i dont use the email function that often. but im sure you will come up with lots of solutions. the hd2 is great )
Hell, as long as it does the other stuff I want it to do, that's gonna be a minor thing since I tend to do my mail directly from the mail server anyway. I was just curious.
I'm hoping to get a reply on the zoom and phonex questions soon and I might go ahead and buy the phone tomorrow or something.
Thanks guys
George
Guys, while I'm at it, I just realized I should post my "wish" list here for you to comment on it and what's available and not on the 9193.
I actually sent this to Negrielectronics.com and they've been working with me to find the right phone so again, I want to put a plug for them 'cause they've been great!
Anyway, here it is in "kinda" order of importance to me...well, except for the first few, they are just questions I added later.
Cell Phone Wish List
1. Voice recording for PHONE conversations
2. Voice recording for other conversations, as in voice memos with built in mic.
3. Phonebook limited to memory size or are there size limitations?
4. Can I import my information from my Palm PDA?
5. Ability to have LARGE Letters and Numbers
6. LOUD RINGER and ability to put any ring tone on it. I will attach the one you put on the last phone so you can see it.
7. Loud Volume on phone
8. Loud Volume on speaker
9. Function as modem for getting online. NOT a must but would like to.
10. Pop e mail so I can check my mail if I want to.
11. Good browser capabilities (think iPhone)
12. Large clock so I can see it easier. You know, when the phone is in standby mode and you want to check what time it is. I love the clock that’s show in the picture of the HTC Touch HD2 T9193
13. Predictive dialing (I liked this from the HTC Vox that you let me try. Very cool. You dial and it keeps trying to guess which number you want. I’d LIKE this but NOT a requirement.
14. Latest Bluetooth version
15.
16. PREFER Real keyboard but not a requirement. I’ve gotten used to dialing on the screen and I don’t text at all.
17. GSM/3G/Fast Internet speeds. Probably going to use it on AT&T. I was never very happy with Verizon and for me at least, ATT worked better. Note, Ryan recommended T-Mobile and I will probably go with that, if nothing else but for the cost.
18. I don’t need a whole lot of the cool gadgets and features on it. I don’t do music or watch videos or download stuff. If it has a good browser like the iphone, that would be great but I mainly want a good PHONE. Camera is good to have and I do actually use it. Liked the one on the iphone and that the lens wasn’t too damn wide. That always pisses me off.
19. I would like a way to connect a corded headset, preferably without adapters.
20. I don’t care if it’s windows or not as I don’t plan on having letters and spread sheets on it. I have PDA’s for that.
21. At least 500 numbers in the phone book. Maybe predictive
22. I do NOT want a flip phone!
23. If it has keyboard on the front, I need LARGER buttons, NOT like the blueberry. My fingers are too thick for that.
24. Also, I would like the option to return it to you if it doesn’t work with my hands free in the car. Just like I did with the Vox and I would be happy to pay some fee for this if necessary.
25. As a phone, the Vox was superior to the iPhone but two things I didn’t like. Size of everything of course and it sucked at displaying web pages. I would actually like to change my requirement. I WOULD like something that displays web pages as well as the iPhone does. It did a beautiful job and I MAY need this feature in the future so if you guys are going to recommend something with a little larger screen, type HTC or iPhone, then I would like something that displays the web pages properly. Of course, it could be that they all do that now, I don’t know.
26. Ryan, I talked to Kenwood to find out which Bluetooth version it had as the handsfree unit was built in but they had no clue. Big surprise there. THIS is the unit I have from Kenwood (DNX8120) and although they didn’t have a list of compatible phones, there is a page on their site where one can look up the compatibility so I’m sending you that instead so that when the guys find a phone that’s suitable for me, they or I can go online and check it.
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/bt/index.php In the first drop down menu on the left, select DNX8. underneath select DNX8120 and under that, select INCLUDE and then on the right, find the phone I’m getting.
Well, I think this is about what I can come up with.
IF I get a laptop with built in wireless that I can use would I have to have an account for that and again, would I be stuck with the higher priced plan or how does that work
I've got a phone, nah nah nah nah nah nah...
Alright boys, I went with the Desire for AT&T from Negri Electronics (and by the way, if someone wants one, they've got 50 of them coming in monday or tuesday) so I need to ramp up the search for apps to make me see things better
Oh, and linky if someone wants it http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-a8183-android-att-850-us-na-3g-unlocked.html
They've got other versions if you don't want AT&T by the way.
Later yall
George

[REQUEST] Black Book

What I'm asking for is a program that acts as your digital Black Book for meeting girls. When I've met them, how many times we've slept together, hide private photos, videos, online backup etc.
It would be awesome if there was an ability to store photos and videos for the specific contact as well. First time I encountered a really good version of an app like this was the "My Little Black Book" for iPhone. I've been searching the net for over an hour now and can't find any app that's even close to that one for the Android platform.
The one for the iPhone is located here: http://saltlicklabs.com/products/little-black-book/
A similar app like that would be awesome.
Things that would be great to include:
Ordinary info
Name, number, e-mail and every other info that's inside the usual contact. Would be awesome if you could import from contact list, link to contact list or something like that
Photos/Videos
Import pictures from the photo library to a specific girl/boy and at the same time hide/delete them from the ordinary library so they can't be accessed without using the application. Comments and ratings of pictures would also be great!
Additional information
First date we met.
What's her/his favorite color, food, movie etc.
How many times have we met?
How many time have we slept together?
Hm, maybe this section should be customisable? The user adds his or her own informations fields based on text input like the above "questions" and then he or she can edit the numbers and text when things update. This way the information you can put on a date/person is infinite!
Custom lock code <-- VERY IMPORTANT!
Secure SMS and MMS inside the application. Threaded or non threaded view with MMS support. Be able to save MMS atachements to application secure media library.
Backup to online dump site like dropbox or FTP.
Also, would be great to be able to export data and pictures in a way that makes it look pretty nice. Word, Excel, HTML or whatever. Import functions for the exported data.
I think it's sad that no one have developed an app like this
If there is any developer that thinks that this is a great idea, I will gladly help out as much as I can with photoshop, tips, ideas, layout and everything else that's not related to programming.
I think this is a kind of app that will be very useful for many boys and girls around the globe
I'm eager to read your opinions!
Best Regards
Mistwalker

No offence... but I think it's pretty sad that you want this. I mean, I can understand what you want, but do you really need to keep a tally on your phone? Most people would just take satisfaction from the use of their time rather than counting it. It seems like you want to over geekify a quite pleasurable experience... Anyhoo, each to their own, I'm not judging
Secondly (the helpful bit), there are apps to hide folders/sms/files etc (a search on the market will return multiple apps) with a password or PIN. Could you use one of them instead? Maybe not the ideal solution for you, but at least you could hide those 'personal' pictures and texts

Doesn't really matter why he wants it, but I think and a Black Book app would just be convenient rather than have a lock on your photos and your sms and your file explorer. Also that could appear a bit fishy if were to have a wife/girlfriend. lol I would like to see an app like this as well...

Haha, yeah. You could. But it's not that convenient to do. It's easier to keep track of everything in one app
And by the way, it can be used for more than just that. For example, me and my friends, well. They have a pretty messed up way of what they think is fun. For example, they think it's awesome to take pictures and videos of when you do embarrassing things, when you fall asleep waaaay to drunk etc etc. We pretty much ends up with priceless pictures all the time With an app like this, it would be very easy for me to keep track of every funny thing someone have ever done So there are more usefullness than just the girls Or boys if you're a girl

Actually I have been looking for an app that locks other apps (with password or pin) and havent found one. got any names or what to put in the search box? Since you said they are there already?

[APP] Great location/map app called Glympse

I just wanted to share with all of you a fantastic app called Glympse.
It is free and very useful.
It allows you to send a link to a map that tracks your location. You choose how long the link is active for and whether it displays your speed.
So, for example, if you are on your way to a friends and they txt you asking where you are and when you'll arrive... you can send them a link that is only active for 30 min (or how ever long you wish) and they can track you on their computer or smartphone.
This is better then Latitude because it works with all phones, all addresses (email or sms), and is temporary. Check out their website for a better explanation of the app.
I love it... you might too. Give it a shot and support a great dev.

pretty neat, thanks for sharing
Hate to bump up a super old thread however I think this needs some re-hashing on how great this app is.
I've been fighting to find a decent real time GPS tracker for quite a while. Each one I find has some sort of obnoxious limitation that drives me insane. Google Latitude was one of the ones I thought for sure would be a home run, except.. it wasn't. I mean, it works great, don't get me wrong... but it's a little ridiculous that I have ZERO configurable options to enable GPS to run even in the background. Nearly every other app I've used does. Not even the option to have GPS "check in" every 10 minutes? Really?
That said, I moved on, and now have been using Glympse. Super handy, super accurate, and doesn't require a specific kind of email address. Makes it that much more cross-compatible and less of a headache. "Oh, you need a Gmail address, just go register for one quick." None of that.
Overall, it's a must to at least have installed. I find it much easier to just Glympse a family member my location so they know when I'm getting home. Recently I would have had a huge use for this as we got hit with some nasty floods. I was driving for many hours to find other roads that were not closed. It would have been nice to have had this just so family members knew I was still on the move and still on my way home.
Anyway, check it out. I'm a fan.

Windows Store needs work

I hope MS is going to implement automatic updating of apps from the windows store like Android does. What a pain to have to update apps manually - Every time I go to the store I have 3-4 apps that need updating.
I think the Windows Store needs alot of work - Its not easy to find stuff (Searches are not very effective), and the layout is horrible.
Just saying . . . .
Agreed! then only thing I hate about t Microsoft's new OS is the constant scrolling to the right.... it's painful to mind and body.

iOS doesn't have automatic updates either, android is the only one really ahead of its time with this feature, hopefully microsoft implement it, maybe along side windows updates.
I don't really find the layout that horrible though, I find the layout is very consistent with the rest of the os which is just fine.
I don't see the issue with searches either, I search, it works as expected, if you are finding that some apps are not showing up with certain search terms it may actually be the developer not entering enough detail to show up in the search (missing keywords, bad descriptions, etc.)
Automatic updating doesnt work for everyone tho, some apps when updated are broken etc so the option to do it as and when you want is a bonus.
As far as work goes, MS should take a leaf out of the "Play Store" book, especially when it comes to searching for apps from the same people, perhaps change it so where it says who wrote an app you can tap on that bit and it shows you all the apps by that person/company, that'd be a big one for me..

Actually the search is not intuitive, like Play Store and iTunes. You need to be very specific to get the hits you want. There is an article that discusses this. you would think with Bing techology they would be able to improve it. But you are correct in that it may be the developer's fault with keywords.
Also, on the Start Screen, I want to have the ability to group apps into folders, as I have a ton of apps , and scrolling takes for ever, even with pinching the size down first.
