[Q] CM12-CM11-CM12- Data not working - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI All ,
I had some phone call issues and moved from CM 12 ,Mar19th version to CM 11 version. I had made the back up of CM12 before that.
I restored the CM11 backup that I had ,but on restoring I had issues with promximity because of the modem problem.
So I did a factory reset of CM 11 and even then I had the problem and then moved to CM12 again by restoring the backup.
Now in CM 12 data is not working. wifi not getting connected, data not getting connected.
Calls are possible ..
Is that a problem with modem in CM12 again ? Can i just flash the CM12 modem alone ? How to find which version modem I am having ?

This looks to be an issue caused by your Modem. Just search for CM12 Modem on the forums and flash it (its about 30mb) If that does not fix it you might have to go about it the long way around (Flash CM11S manually and then upgrade to cm12). As a general rule try to avoid restoring a backup of an android version other than the one you currently are on. I would also suggest that you flash the cm12 modem now and do a full wipe after just in case (No need to wipe internal storage)

I flashed the CM 12 latest March19th version and data is working now. But proximity gone

Which ROM are you on? If you're on Lollipop you need to be on Lollipop modem and firmware, if you're on KitKat you need to be on KitKat modem and firmware.

Yeah many people are facing issues with the 19th March Build. Go back to 15th March one or wait for tomorrows build

Yep, FML, I flashed March19 on the way to work this morning and now, no data. I restored my March 12 backup to no avail. I can't D/L anything at work so I am screwed I guess. Would it hurt if I flashed the OPO_L5_alpha_modem? I have that saved

[Q] Dirty re-flash CM11s

My OPO is rooted and I have TWRP installed. I think I now may have a file or two that has been corrupted and I would like to reflash the CM11s rom. I ran the CM11 nightlies on my LG G2 and that was always a fix to get the files back where they should be.
Is there any reason why I can't dirty flash this http://dist01.slc.cyngn.com/factory/bacon/cm-11.0-XNPH25R-bacon-signed.zip with TWRP?

So just to make sure I understand this correctly you just want to know why you cant dirty flash CM11s rom over itself. First off you can dirty flash all you want but the issues you may or may not get are on you. Now may I suggest your wipe system when dirty flashing with TWRP. I check off dalvilk, cache and system whenever I upgrade or dirty flash.
Also this is still android and most if not all of the flashing rules still apply
The problem I have is with wifi. This developed a couple of days ago where I have to toggle airplane mode on/off before wifi will reconnect. I actually did a factory reset last night and it did not fix it. I am now thinking that I will need to do more. I suppose the wifi is monitored by the kernel? baseband? I am not sure that a factory reset would reset those things. I could be wrong.

[Q] - No Calls or SMS OxygenOS or CM12

OK I am having a problem, when i rooted and followed the direction to install both OxygenOS or CM12 nightly I am unable to receive any SMS or phone calls except after a reboot. Once i reboot any saved messages come through and then once the phone sleeps it stops. I have rolled back to CM11S for the time being. Any steps or tricks to follow to get this issue resolved.
"followed the direction to install both OxygenOS or CM12 nightly" does it mean you are using Multiboot?

No just flashing either one I have this result. Not sure if I am doing something wrong in the process.
Steps:
Wipe all but internal
Flash Rom (then gapps if CM12)
Flash SU
Reboot

Well all i could suggest it, also please flash the CM12 firmware once. In theory oxygenOS and CM12 firmwares are compatible. So flash like this:
Install CM12 fimrware zip
Wipe System, Data, Cache, Dalvik etc without Internal memory
Flash Rom Zip
Flash Gapps
Flash SuperSu
and then let it boot and settle down. Before restorign apps or data, check for any issues again
seems to be sitting stable at the moment, will keep testing. but thanks for the input.

Great! Let me know if the bug persists. And be careful with firmwares. For CM12 roms, just flash the firmware once and you're good to go for all of then.

spoke too soon, after letting the phone sit ideal for a few hours and testing incoming calls\sms nothing came through. restored a backup of CM11S, for the week to have a working device. will keep trying to get to a root cause later in the week. will also open a help ticket with OnePlus to see if there is something I am missing as well since this happens with OxygenOS as well.

[Q] TWRP not restoring backups

I have encountered a strange problem. Please help.
1. I was running CM12 nightly (April 10 build). I also have TWRP backups of Apr 8 image and my old CM11S (44R) image.
2. I downloaded OxygenOS to try it out. Booted the phone into TWRP and tried flashing the ZIP.
3. Got an error while flashing the ZIP.
4. Rebooted the phone into recovery and tried restoring the Apr 10 image.
5. Restore says it is successful.
6. On reboot, the phone stays on the "Powered by Android" screen. It does not boot up into the ROM image. It boots up into recovery instead.
7. I tried the same process with Apr 8 image and the same issue.
8. Finally, I restored the backup image of CM11S and that works well.
Can someone please advise how can I get my backup ROMs to work?
I have now tried backing up ROMs for Cyanogen CMOS12 as well as Oxygen. None of the restores are working. I am backing up all partitions. Where am I going wrong? The restore does not give any error, but the boot is stuck at the logo. When I restore CMOS12, it gets stuck on the screen that says "Cyanogen". When I restore Oxygen, it gets stuck at the boot animation of Oxygen.
I am using TWRP 2.8.6 for restore and Online nandroid manager for backing up.
Is it possible that OnlineNandroid manager uses a different version of recovery for backup?
Please help.
.
I'm new to the CM 12 stuff but I thought I read that TWRP had an issue with compression during a certain range of weeklies, and due to that, would/could not restore from that range.
I think I also read to make sure you have the most up to date TWRP, and a weekly after 4/22, or so. I don't recall the exact date of the compressed weeklies causing the issue, but I think the compression problem began in April, sometime. Hopefully someone will come by and further clarify or identify your issue.
What version of TWRP do you have and what's the date of your weekly?

I am using TWRP 2.8.6. I have tried restoring Oxygen, CM12, CM12S backups and none of them are working. Restore takes reasonable time and says it was successful.

read around a bit as some folks seem to have had the same issue as you, there is also an xda topic for the nightlies, as well which may be a good place to search

Did you wiped cacha/Dalvik? I personnaly do these wipes before and after flashing/restoring.
If I were you, I'd try to flash the latest cm12 nightly "on" you restore, maybe it could help..
You might have to flash the right firmware for the CM 12/11 you want to restore. TWRP doesn't backup firmware by default, only ROM/Data. So flash the right formware for the ROM you want to restore and then restore your nandroid.

Not sure as in "Yes, that's the way to go, do it!" but it's worth a try. I haven't switched back to CM11 from CM12 (updated to CM12 just yesterday) up to now.
What I'm pretty sure about is that TWRP (by default) only backs up system and data, no modem and stuff. And CM11 and CM12 come with different firmware. Flashing the right firmware for your build won't do any harm anyway

Finally resolved this by going to Online Nandroid app and changed the shell to default and busybox to default. Now the backups taken with these settings are getting restored successfully.

Can't get data to work on 5.1 roms

Alright so I've tried multiple roms and I can't get data to work on 5.1 roms even though the APN is setup properly.
I reflashed to complete stock CM11S, then flash CM12S with the firmware/modem/radios update and then the latest CM12.1 nightly ... still doesn't work!
Data works fine on stock CM12S / CM12 based roms.
Is there something I'm missing?

Well, problem identified. TWRP does not flash modem packages correctly above version 2.8.6.0 on the OPO (stated in many ROM and also TWRP threads). You have to revert back to 2.8.6.0 to flash the files or flash the modem via the fastboot commands.

No luck, I flashed TWRP 2.8.6.0, then the latest CM12.1 nightly. It wouldn't write the modem and radios as it said they were already up to date.
So I flashed the full modem package found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...dio-updated-modem-radio-files-oxygen-t3072516
And then I flashed CM12.1 nightly again.
Still no data Should I do the factory reset to CM11S again and retry but this time flashing TWRP 2.8.6.0 from the start?

Can you confirm that your Baseband version is the same?
Also, try to delete all your APN entries and re-add them manually.

This is strange. I am out of all ideas, since it should work if you have the correct baseband and manually added the correct APN. My only guess is, that there is a bug in 12.1 which does not like your carrier.
You only tried the official 12.1 Nightlies? Try some custom 12.1 Roms, like Exodus or Temasek or Sultan's CAF ROM as the last resort.

Yeah I'm running out of ideas too! I installed Exodus, same thing. The worse part is that in the past when the first CM12.1 nightlies came out I tried it and data was working!
However it was unstable so I got back to CM12. Go figure
I think I might ask Oneplus support at this point...

I don't know how this much is going to help you, I had the same problem as you for days now, tried flashing various ROMs, oxygen, CM nightly, cm-12.0-YNG1TAS2I3-bacon-signed.zip, cm-12.0-YNG1TAS17L-bacon-signed.zip, cm-12.0-YNG1TAS0YL-bacon-signed.zip, etc etc
Searched various forums, tried various methods, nothing worked, exclamation mark still there
Finally, I deleted ALL of the APN inside the APN selection, turned data off, reboot, turn data back up, went into APN, google service provider APN setting, in my case I'm with Rogers Wireless, entered APN manually, selected the APN, H+ came on after about 5 seconds, restarted phone again, LTE came back on
I hope I have included enough information
Hi, I feel your pain here. I just got mine and immediately flashed the latest 12.1 nightly. No connection from the start. After many hours of BS, I finally found a modem that fixed everything for me.

Extract and flash with fastboot (zip is not flashable).
Good luck and hope this works for you like it did for me.

I had a similar problem with my Nexus 5 when I first used 5.0. I don't really remember the version or ROM.
I had to change, on the APN settings, from IPV6 to IPV4. The newer ROMs I was trying were set IPV6 by default. Changing to IPV4 did the trick.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work even with that modem
What is your network type under the test menu > phone information? *#*#4636#*#* at the dialer. Mine seems to work at LTE/GSM auto (PRL).
Also in that menu, if you hit the menu button and go select radio band, should be USA.
And finally, in the OS settings > Mobile network settings > Preferred network type should be LTE as well, if you have the LTE service / SIM.
I'm assuming all your APNs are good since you said you had data going before.
One other thing I discovered is that TWRP cannot flash modems properly, even if it's a flashable zip, so they must be flashed with fastboot. There's a variety to try in a topic somewhere around here.

If yes and still if you are facing radio problems, please refer http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/ref-oneplus-one-modem-collection-t2858734 and try out KK modems
Otherwise please flash OxygenOS and give it a try.

Firstly, make sure your TWRP is 2.8.6.0
Secondly, flash KitKat firmware before flashing any kitkat ROM.
Thirdly, don't use toolkits.
To your problem, here's my suggestion. Do a full wipe in TWRP. Flash KitKat firmware A FEW TIMES - PREFERABLY 5 TIMES. Each time with a cache and dalvik cache in between. After that do a full wipe again and flash the KitKat rom. Not sure if its placebo but that's what I did to get KitKat working after I switch back from 5.x to 4.4 and have the same problem as you.
If it doesn't work, do a full wipe in TWRP. After that flash factory images except recovery and userdata. You should be good to go to flash my ROM.
By full wipe u mean clean flash or including internal storage?
And thanks will try and report back
Didn't help still got no service tried flashing fast boot image too manually still no service.

Are you flashing fastboot images correctly? Full wipe = wiping system, cache, dalvik cache and data in TWRP
