Wifi takes a couple seconds to "initialize" when I unlock - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I need to look something up and unlock my phone, it takes a couple seconds to actually connect to the internet even though it says it's fully connected on wifi. When I open chrome or google now it'll take a couple tries to actually get results. Autofill won't populate, voice searches don't work, hangout texts won't come through. I'm on 5.1 cataclysm and elementalx but this has been an issue before 5.1 and it's on multiple networks. It's only a couple seconds, but it's consistent. I have all those sleep wifi smart wifi things disabled.

[Q] One S/Sense 4.0 based ROMS and phone lock-ups?

I've tried a few Sense 4.0 ROMs based on the One S and with each I've had problems where the phone will become unresponsive. I can't unlock it, even though it's not dead (if I plug into my computers, the screen will show the lockscreen, adb works, if the kernel has sweep2wake the buttons light up, etc). I installed catlog a few days ago and when the phone locked up I reviewed the logs and noticed it happening around the time there was lots of WiFi activity (specifically, switching between WiFi and the T-moble data networks).
I next disabled WiFi and the phone was fine for a day; I enabled WiFi, went for a walk, and sure enough had the display freeze up again. It's become so predictable that it's very easy for me to reproduce now; turn on WiFi, leave my office, walk to a nearby building which has a access point on the same WPA2/PSK network (I'm on a university with campus-wide WiFi), spend about two minutes there (the phone network is weak in this building, so it may or may not be able to pick up the T-Mobile network in that building) , leave the building and walk across the campus. Within two to four minutes of leaving the building, the problem occurs.
I don't have the posting history yet to make posts in the dev sections, so I'm want to see here whether others who've had their phone become unresponsive can confirm that they have something similar happening. If so, think back to where you were when you noticed the problem. If you have left the vicinity of a WAP, try retracing your steps with WiFI on and see if it happens. Also, try turning off WiFi and using for a while to see if the problem still occurs or resolves itself.

Keep Wi-Fi connected when locked with Skype

As a power saving method, Windows Phone puts a connected Wi-Fi connection on standby when the phone is locked for more than a minute, so when you unlock your WP, it attempts to reconnect. The phone automatically reconnects and disconnects while its locked to check for notifications like email every 5-10 minutes or so. This reconnection for many is hit or miss, sometimes requiring you to go into settings to manually connect to Wi-Fi again. The only way to keep Wi-Fi connected is to connect the phone to a PC or wall outlet to charge.
Now, for some reason, a couple of weeks ago, the Wi-Fi on my Lumia 900 stayed connected even if the phone remained locked for hours and to my surprise, it had a minimal effect on battery life, I barely noticed any significant drain. It was wonderful!
Yesterday, it stopped this seemingly miraculous behavior and went back to its default power saving ways. I retraced ALL my steps and cant seem to recall doing anything specific to enable/disable this "feature".
So I was wondering if any of you experienced anything similar?
UPDATE: Its not a miracle, Skype was keeping the Wi-Fi on!
Come to think of it, I did make a Skype call just for the sake of trying out the front facing camera quality over the network.

4G & WiFi 'connected' but cannot I access internet connection???

Some background on my phone and situation:
I've been rooted, unlocked, and on Synergy ROM for quite some time now, since August 2012. I've updated the ROM many times. I've had a recurring problem where my WiFi is turned on, but randomly cuts out my internet connection. Right now, both 4G and WiFi are on, but I cannot connect to the play store, chrome, email, radio streams, etc. This has happened before and I cannot figure out the problem for the life of me, but holy crap is it ANNOYING!!!! I've done MANY searches and can't seem to find another person with this same problem, using the same terminology, so here I am. Also, it seems I NEVER have more than 2 bars signal strength on 4G (entire other issues - not as important).
I'm running firmware MF1 with MB1 TZ to fix camera, on Synergy r484 (current). However, this has happened to me often over the past many months. I use Unified Remote to control my home PC from the couch, which I gave up on because the app could never establish a wifi connection, or took 30 minutes to get working - I can't handle that. I try doing the *#0011# to turn off wifi power saving mode, but I do not get the same option people talk of when hitting the menu button, and the VZW voice says the update failed or some crap - I don't even know what this is exactly, I just tried it because I'm at my wits end!
Somebody, PLEASE help! This **** is the most annoying thing I've ever had to deal with, and have been dealing with it sporadically for the past many months.

Should wifi be losing connection in sleep?

For the past couple months which I have spent most of on Sultan's 5.1.1 and 6.0 roms, as well as others, I have noticed that when after usually longer periods of sleep, sometimes I'd wake the device and it wouldn't be connected to wifi, but within about 5-10 seconds it would reconnect. I didn't realize how bad it was until I started using Tasker to enable Bluetooth when disconnecting from my home wifi. On average about once per hour the profile would activate, anywhere from 20 minutes - an hour after locking the phone. It often won't connect for at least 5 minutes unless I turn my phone on.
All my settings are correct, wifi is set to keep on "Always". I've tried it on both 2.4 and 5Ghz networks. I've tried it after clean installs of a rom, with no other apps yet installed. I've tried it with wifi scanning both on and off. I've also tried it recently on a couple roms that have disabled Doze.
Has anyone experienced this issue, or does anyone have a Tasker profile like mine (Wifi connected) that knows it doesn't have any problem staying active for many hours straight?
I believe that this is only happening with certain routers, for example with the modem + router that Comcast provides.

Android 10 - wifi sleeping while screen locked

Hi guys!
I did a lot of googling and searching through XDA, but never found a solution for my problem, so I might as well try it here.
Recently I updated my Sony Xperia X Compact to AOSP 10. Now when I am connected to wifi (and it does NOT matter whether it is 2.4/5GHz or IPv4/IPv6, I tried everything) and my screen is locked, my system seems to put the wifi connection into some kind of battery saving mode. Notifications then will hardly come through. You can also see this in WhatsApp Web - every two minutes or so, "Phone not connected" will show up, and messages take up to 2 or 3 mins to get delivered. Then I can use Whatsapp Web normally for 30 secs, after which my phone seems to disconnect again. If I unlock my screen, WhatsApp Web will immediately (!) start working normally again, also missing notifications (e.g. Signal) will then come through.
While of course this might be a ROM bug, I am at least 100% sure it IS ROM-related, as I used exactly the same phone with exactly the same router without any problems while on Android 9 LineageOS.
Another interesting thing - if I charge my phone, during charging WhatsApp Web works completely without problems. The moment i UNPLUG the phone, wifi gets somewhat throttled agian.
Does anybody know a working solution for this? I do not have the option "Disable wifi sleep" or something similar - i believe Google has dropped this option somewhere around Pie.
Thanks in advance!

AFAIK there are kind of wifi energy saving options on some devices. But IDK if you can enable or disable wifi when phone is locked
