Odin will recognize my phone when booted normaly but, when in download mode odin wont recognize my phone
I have CWM recovery 6.0.3.8 installed if it makes any difference.
Any help is appriciated, thanks
Are the drivers installed? This is usually the problem. If that is not the problem, it may be the USB Port or the USB Cable. Switching ports usually helps.

Unfortunately, i have tried both of those things. I have uninstalled and reinstalled samsung drivers from both kies and the samsung website. I have also tried switching ports with no avail. I have found out when i connect my phone in download mode in one port there will be a sound as if a device is connected but i cannot see the phone on my computer, on all other ports it will sound as if the device connected and then disconnected immediately. I have also tried using multiple versions of odin.

Yes! You hear the sound of the phone being connected. Have you checked any processes on your computer when that happens? Download Mode needs certain drivers (downloaded automatically) to be able to work with Odin.

Unfortunately, no other processes appear on my computer when connected. Would there be a way i could download the download mode drivers manually?

And uninstall kies from your computer. There is nothing useful about that app.

The 1st installation method did not work, so i went on to the the 3rd however when i look on device manager my phone is listed as an Android Device>Google Galaxy Nexus ABD Interface, when i try doing step 8 my computer says the drivers are already up to date. Going on details for the driver says its from ClockworkMod(my current recovery). Might this be why Odin cannot detect my device when in download mode? And if so how would i go about fixing this? Thanks for your help by the way

Hmmm. Another option could be just flashing to stock rather than using Odin. May I ask why you want to go back to stock? Are you returning your phone? If so, flashing a stock ROM should suffice..

Well yes, im soon going to be getting a new phone in May(any suggestions?? lol). However, since flashing Cyanogen Mod 10 i have had trouble getting calls. I cannot hear when the phone is dialing and if someone picks up on the other end i dont hear anything. Also, recently texts have not been working. I have seen that I am able to send texts but not recieve them, or if i do they will take a LONG time to come through and usually i will get all the messages at once.

Problem: Cannot get my Samsung T959V to connect to the computer in order to flash/root. Always gives the same "USB Device Not Recognized" error when I plug it in to the computer.
My Progress: Before you guys throw this questions out, let me tell you what I have tried so far. I have been trying to get this damn thing connected to the computer for about 3 weeks now. I have sat down on my computer going through the xda forum in detail trying to find an answer. I know the process of flashing and the xda contributors have some great guides to help us along the way, a big thanks to all ur hard work, but no matter what, I cannot get the phone in download mode or get it connected to the computer.
* I have read the Download Mode post and tried all 5 ways without luck.
* Have read all things related to Keis Mini and how it sucks when it comes to the T959V and other ppl have had the same problem.
* Have tried connecting in Keis mode, usb debugging mode but still the same error.
If someone can help me get my phone connected to the computer, I am sure I can take of the rest since everything is available on the SGS4G Bible, thanks for that also.
Is there anything I have missed or not tried yet? Please help. Thanks in advance for anyone who reads this post as it is my first. Usually I don't have to post since all the documentation is always up-to-date and available but this problem is killing me
Additional Information: Bought the phone from a cell-phone store I use to work at. Has Android 2.3.6 on it. Have done the factory reset and tried to get it to connect, no luck. Not sure if it has been flashed before, pretty sure it hasnt but the flashed download mode method didnt work also. Have android-sdk installed and have tried pointing the .inf file to the google usb-drivers in the sdk, no luck. Download both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers for this phone from multiple locations, still no luck trying to connect. Have also tried multiple computers and multiple v9 cables, no luck.
Have you installed the Samsung drivers? You mention google drivers but samsung has it's own. You should be able to find them in the noobs guide to Odin thread. DL mode should work as well regardless of what drivers you have installed. Pull the battery, plug usb into computer, plug phone into usb, hold down BOTH vol + and -, insert battery. I've never not seen that method work.

Yup tried both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers on multiple computers. Tried the download mode method u said also. Trust me have tried everything I have read about and know, but no luck.
But the phone charges fine? Could be a bad USB port. Or partially bad. Have you tried a jig? If that doesn't work I'd say your hardware is screwed up somewhere.

Yup it charges fine. Both when I plug it into the wall and the computer. What's a jig? Don't think I have tried that yet. If something can let me know for sure its a hardware problem, then I will stop obsessing over this, hahaha. Thanks for ur help btw.
A jig is a nifty little device that plugs in to your USB port on the phone and then gets you to DL mode. Their mostly used to recvover from bad flashes(like flashing the wrong phones kernel). Here's a link:

If your cheap like me or just wanna make it fast here's a guide to making your own.

Awesome bro. I will see if I have time to make the jig, if not i will just order it.
Also, is there any way to flash/root without DL mode or USB debugging or using Keis? My recovery mode works but that's all. Was wondering if there was a way i could flash/root from the 'apply update from sdcard' option in the recovery mode?
Seems like a driver error have u tried one of the heimdall one clicks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
They will put u back to stock with a modified rooted kernel .
If anything try and manually point to the drivers in device manager. Or download android sdk and use the google drivers ?

There was with Froyo but with GB it's all been put into the kernel. So not that I'm aware of. However one of the GB leaks changed the key mapping of the phone. I forget which one but that might be the issue. Go to settings>about phone>build number and let me know what that says. post the base band as well.

Well that is the official GB release so now I officially have no idea why you can't get into DL mode. Get the jig and let me know if that works. Good luck.

I downloaded the terminal emulator app and tried doing 'reboot download' but says 'operation not permitted,' any way to get around that? Or any other non-button or non-adb way to get into download mode? Other than the jig? Or is it possible to get su privileges on an unrooted device for the 'reboot' command to work in the terminal emulator app?
It's giving you "not permitted" because you don't have root. Have you tried Super One Click to root? If you can get SOC to root it you can use terminal to force DL mode.
If you haven't hears the link.
http://shortfuse.org/
DL 2.3.1. It should come with the android drivers as well. Worth a shot. If it doesn't work it doesn't damage the phone at all.

Im trying it now but for SOC to work, i have to have the proper drivers to get my phone connected. Will see whether the drivers that come with SOC work for my phone.
No luck with the SOC 2.3.1 drivers. They r the same as the android-sdk drivers
Will try the jig. Hope it works.

Im sorry I am having mouse issues that deleted part of my response..
Sometimes a residual driver will not allow you to properly install the drivers. I had a LG driver from my old phone that was conflicting with Samsung driver.
Also this is a new root process. I do not know if it will work or not. But Hell its worth a try right?

It also says gadget serial in the device name when its trying to auto find the driver... strange. I just need my phone back together lol. Not to be a ****, but I am reporting this thread to the mods and asking them to move it to the q&a section.
To fix your issue, using my odin 1 click (gremlin remover), start the 1-click, then boot into dl mode. If device still isn't recognized, go into device manager right click on the device and update drivers manually. Reboot phone into dl mode and all should be well.
Also once you reinstall drivers or update them, reboot your computer. That always helps the computer recognize my phone when I have this issue. Good luck.
Try another cable and usb port.

again in the main post. I tried multiple computers multiple cables and all the usb ports on all 4 of my laptops
Start Oden first then plug in the phone give Oden a second to find the phone. When the box on the upper left turn yellow then you can start. Directions work for both one click GR and regular Oden.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
under device manager it shows error code 43 on "unknown device" no matter how i install or dont install drivers... use kies or not use kies... let windows find it or not.... just doesnt work
brighter minds than min here, but "one-click" and "odin" are different routes to the same end, aren't they? But if you start with heimdall and that fails, you will likely get the drivers issue when you try odin. I suggest opening device manager on your Win machine and removing all drivers related to the phone as storage device or whatever. Then reboot your machine. When you get to your desktop, open odin (my preferred tool), then with your phone powered down, hold vol-up+vol-down together and connect the phone to your usb cable. Win should find the drivers and load them, and odin should see your phone.
Gonna steal something from lumin30 here.
* * If you have used your phone on every USB Port and/or have no idea where all you have plugged your phone into or used ODIN or Heimdall with - Download [usbdeview-x32.zip] for 32-bit operating systems or [usbdeview-x64.zip] for 64-bit operating systems. Uninstall anything you see that has Samsung and Android related.

ok gents...and ladies, this is for an sgh-t959v galaxy s 4g. My son was trying to flash a rom to his phone and somehow, I have no idea, screwed the pooch and his phone is now stuck in "downloading" mode. the battery was pulled for several days and when the phone is rebooted it goes immediately to the "downloading" screen. any help what so ever would greatly be appreciated. Not: its not stuck in download mode...well sort of, its stuck downloading.
You could either ODIN or Heimdall back to stock and that should fix it.

It also said that for me but i was still able to use odin even with that message. Try plugging in your phone into all usbs until you get some sort of yellow box on odin and from there you can use it to recover your phone.

It was probably review. I forgot exactly what it was
Ok first off, the whole reason I'm in this mess is because I couldn't get the phone to connect with my PC. I tried different cables, ports, and drivers. The official Samsung drivers have the message "device driver software was not successfully install;d ". So I basically couldn't connect it to my PC at all. Now since I had it rooted through towelroot I thought I'd use Flashify to flash TWRP. So I did. Now after a reboot I get the message, “System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone.”. Now I have ODIN installed with the stock firmware downloaded but ODIN won't recognize my device. Any help at all would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Anything guys? Just getting ODIN to recognize my phone would help so much.
Do you have your phone in download mode? Beyond that, I'm not really sure. Everything I see that talks about odin just talks about download mode with no mention of any drivers or anything.

First uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your phone. Get them from Samsung site just to be safe. also try redownloading odin from a different website, could be a bad download. and 'm assuming you have a good USB cable and good USB Ports.

Hi, I'm kinda having the same problem the original poster is having.
My problem is, my windows 7 computers do not see the phone at all, no matter which cable/USB port I use. No beep, no trying to install drivers, no nothing. I'm assuming that unless windows sees the device to begin with... I won't be able to use kies or Odin or heimdall or adb or anything right?

Drago, thanks for trying to help me, can't tell you how much I appreciate it bro. Now when it comes to windows, I'm no noob, I actually own a small business going out to people's houses and fixing their computer/WiFi/printer problems. So device manager, yeah I tried "scanning for new hardware" tried and tried, checked and checked, restarted, tried safe mode, tried using different administrator account, nothing. That's when I got this gut sinking feeling, what if something is wrong with the USB port on the phone.
It's a SM-S820L, galaxy core prime. No sound when I plug it in, nothing shows up in 'my computer', no tuh noon sound, and I remember back when the phone was working like normal, I tried to get a picture or two off of it by plugging it in while it was on, I remember it showed up in windows no problem, even without the drivers from Samsung installed. Now nothing happens, even though it says download mode.
I still need your help Drago, don't forget about me

alright well you have one of 3 issues then honestly.
1. phone USB port like you said
2. the PC/laptop USB or..
3.cable or driver issues.
make sure your completly uninstall the phones drivers in device manager while the phone is plugged into the PC. next unplug the phone, restart, reinstall actuall samsung drivers, than try pluggin in again. use a known working USB port also.
sorry I can't give you an answer that's the best I can think of, let me know how it goes!

You can try redownloading Odin and also running Odin as an administrator, that's been the case one in a while. lastly uninstall and reinstalling drivers could help. If this does'nt do it sorry, I'm all out of ideas.
