Due to unlocked bootloader you can not update via update center, only you can update apps like walkman etc,not the system update.

Does it really help with rooting? Because there's no use of updating the phone if there's no root option available. Plz confirm bro. I have already installed using flashtool. And I can't root. Have you got a rooted d2203 4.4.4??

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3012248
you can root your phone using this method . i dont have lte varient but i rooted my d2202 using this. and its working fine .
you can only root with unlocked bootloader.

Hello uday... The thing is i tried this method. There's this kernel on this method BOOT_D2203_4.4.2.img which is for 4.4.2. I tried installing this kernel. It installed but my phone was bricked. Stuck at sony logo and won't boot. I have used this method one month ago when my device was on firmware 4.4.2. But now it's on firmware 4.4.4 that's the difference. I hope you understood what I'm trying to say. Basically I'm looking for Root kernel for the LTE variant with 4.4.4 installed (D2203) And my bootloader is already unlocked as I installed the kernel mentioned in that post a month ago. Help me if you can plz.

i know whats wrong with you . same thing happened to me when i upgraded from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 . but now its ok .
you have to flash the 4.4.2 kernel ( as it has cwm in it)
and use this to flash supersu..
then you dont have to boot your phone you have to goto advance>power off > fix root=yes .
then you have to use your ftf file of 4.4.4 i.e you have downloaded from xperifirm.
select firmware in flashtool . and remove tick from cache and data in wipe section and in exclude section mark all except kernel.( as in the attached image)
and connect your phone in flash mode and flash it.
phone will boot normally with root.

Totally Worked... Thanks a ton bro. Surely gonna hit your thanks button. Maybe you should post this method which would help dozens of more people like me.

My phone is rooted now but I' facing another problem. For example if I try to install xposed framework... It fails with showing the error "mount permission denied (are you root?)" But phone is totally rooted I checked via root checker. I guess the mount permissions are not -rw. And also I'm not able to uninstall bloatware from link2sd. That never happened before. Plz let me know if any solution available. Thanks.

I followed these steps. After this xposed framework gets installed and reboots too but the modules are not working. Any one them. I installed all the modules and enabled them in xposed installer and also rebooted like many times but still none of them work. And also I'm still not able to uninstall the bloatware. But busybox and xposed installer got installed without any wrror now. What could be the possible cause?

Sir! Is there a big difference between the 4.4.2 and the 4.4.4? How's your experience so far?

Nothing changed. Absolutely the same. But in 4.4.2 my phone didn't support the themes properly but in this one it does.. so I'm cool with it. Too sad we won't be getting lollipop update anytime soon.

Well, its a matter of hit and try..!! You could try it and see if it works. I don't think that the rooting script is chipset specific. But it maybe that as well. We don't get Qmobile here in India, so don't know the specifics. It might work or it might fail. At most the phone won't and you will be stuck on bootscreen. You can get that fixed at the service centre if its in warranty (don't tell them you tried rooting.)

I should work. I have tested this on many more devices ( I will add of those in a while though) You should try it again. And also it dosen't matter where you live.
it says device not found
well sir i gave it another try. all was going on well. in the end it said "error : device not found "
and not rooted.
anyway thanks for quick reply sir
regards
Do one thing and see if su is there. If it is then remove it along with root (there is and option in settings of su) and then re-root it. While in the the process of rooting, don't touch anything on your phone or pc. And I hope this time you are able to root it!
Also confirm if it works and what device you used.
Regards
Ishan

First check with root checker and ota voodoo to see if there is any tick in the boxes. If not try to install SU and see it it works out.
If not then,
1. Download busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox (Only the app and not busybox)
2. Root with motochopper
3. If exploit dosen't show any error, INSTALL busybox from the app and then check SU
I tested both the exploits on Xperia SP. Gave me an error in the explot a few times but worked out though. It also gave me an error that it is not rooted even after i got no error in the exploit. Just had to install busybox and voila it worked

Actually, it's just the drivers which should be installed. In Win7, they are automatically installed but they take some time as they are downloaded and installed. So that's why the rooting is stuck at that point as the drivers are still being installed in the background.

Hmmmm you don't need root access to flash using odin (I came to know about it just now thanks to @sanjay.addya )
So you can just download the old stock firmware and flash it properly using odin.
Follow this tutorial to know how to flash stock firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505436

KitKat Root Locked Bootloader

Hi guys, i managed to get my xperia M2 (D2303) root (rw /system too) with locked bootloader and kitkat (18.3.C.0.40). I don't know how did this method work, but i will explain what i did.
1. Flash stock JB and root with towelroot
2. Install SuperSU
3. Upgrade to KitKat via OTA. Now you are root without rw /system permission.
(4. Download Easyroot tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900))
(5. Edit the install.bat file removing the "adb shell "/data/local/tmp/towelzxperia_ert"" line)
You can download the edited file here http://d-h.st/3fy
6. Follow the instructions in the Easyroot tool thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900)
7. Install SuperSU in /System. You can do this in the Menu of SuperSU.
8. Now you're root with rw /System permission.
This worked for me, and i could install Xposed framework, gravity box, busybox...
You can try this and tell if this works for everyone or if i've been lucky. I think i didn't forgot any step.
Sorry for the bad english, but i think that everyone will understand it.
Works Great on D2306 (18.3.C.0.37)
Now i have KitKat with root in Locked bootloader
Thanks Engineer91!

Is it neccesary to update via FOTA? I'd preferably flash the ftf using Flashtool, without wiping anything, as I have already downloaded it.. Thanks, great post, will try tomorrow
I think that if you updated with Flashtool you'll lose root and via ota it stays.

This worked for me, and i could install Xposed framework, gravity box, busybox...
You can try this and tell if this works for everyone or if i've been lucky. I think i didn't forgot any step.
Sorry for the bad english, but i think that everyone will understand it.

First I downgrade to 4.3 , root via Flashtool and Easy Root Tool ( permission rw) next I install recovery from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/development/d2303-clockworkmod-6-0-4-6-t3011821 and I try update via OTA but after ~5% it restart and normal turn on

Wait, don't install recovery. You'll install recovery at the end when you're at 4.4.4. Just flash kitkat 4.4.4 or update it via ota as you like and follow this tutorial to root it with full permissions. After everything is done install the recovery. But be careful read my full instructions on how to flash in 4.4+.

Good job.
Yes, it can boot to recovery on all stock roms 4.4.2 - 4.4.3
Yes, it can flash stock flashable zip kernels, but on latest firmware, especially KK 4.4.4 all my attempts with 18.3.1.C.0.21 failed with boot loops.
I'm not very surprised because this recovery is a good old repacked CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.6 by DooMLoRD, and it is made for Unlocked Bootloader.
If we want to have a full functional CWM,PhilZ Touch or TWRP recovery for locked BL on Xperia M2, we need a solution like XZDualRecovery by NUT.
Anyway, thanks for your work.
Can you upload a kernel for 4.4.2 please ?
While installing CWM by terminal emulator it shows
"E:invalid command argument
E:Cant Open /tmp/recovery.log"
Code i used was
Su
Recovery -update_package=/sdcard/recovery.img
I hav done by teminal coz my volume buttons are not working so.for up-down navigation volume buttons are needed bt its not working so i tried with code bt its showing me error. And while flashing in rom install it shows "Error:cant locate recovery partion"
Please help for install zip of cwm without volume button.
Please giv me solution

Glad to hear that.
Bootloader is locked. Phone is rooted. The .exe file worked properly and all the files are where they should be on the phone but still impossible to get into Recovery.
Phone turns on, Blue light turns on, trying pressing, tapping and holding but the phone never vibrates and just continue the boot like I've done nothing.
Please help

You need to gain root first
Downgrade to a formware ending in .93, use griefroot to root, install dual recovery and then update using a pre-rooted flashable zip to 5.0.2
