Is there anyway I can use Kitkat kernel of a same chipset phone for my device? Actually My phone is having MT6589 SoC and It has not yet got official kitkat update but there is a kernel for MT6589 SoC so i was just wondering if I can use that kernel to run on my device as well So i can port kitkat Rom to my device. it uses a mtk6575 chipset 1 or 1.5GHZ 512MB ram and 4gb hd
has gps, double sim cards, 3g module and bluetooth built-in.
I'd like to know if someone in some way has the stock rom of this tablet and also the device tree, the kernel, proprietary blobs, vendor libs, I mean what is necessary to make a custom rom for this tablet.
Also feel free to post your questions or discoveries about the same device here...I hope we can have this customized as soon as possible.
Sorry for my bad english.It's isn't fake!I have IQ4404 on MT6572 and valik1410valik create custom kernel with overclock.Now kernel testing.Kernel only for 4.4 ROMs. Powern,rex-xxx and other create 4.4 kernel(3.4.67) without sources,IQ4404 have only KK sources,we haven't OEM source code.ART not working,other work well

Hey everyone. I wanted to know that if a rom can be ported, then what type of rom can be ported? I have ported two successfully. Just needed to know that can I port a Rom of higher version? My device has mediatek processor and version is jellybean with the kernel version ,3.4.5 . Want to port a Rom of the version Marshmallow made for mediatek devices including kernel version 3.4.7. Please guide me for any way to port this Rom. Even if it gets technical. Any information will be appreciated. Thx
Not all of the MTK processor can run fluently marshmallow, for example the MT6589 can run only with KitKat and older version, so first of all be sure that your device processor supports marshmallow.
How can I find that if my processor supports higher veversions other than kitkat? Cant find it on Google

It tells that my hardware failed to support marshmallow
*cough* finger sensor *cough* but the app's positive for lollipop. You know that the marshmallow is a refined version version of lollipop. Maybe, I can get it to work with kernel porting or I have to remove everything that state's "finger sensor" in the Rom?
If the app said that your hardware doesn't support marshmallow you can't run marshmallow

Because your hardware can't run marshmallow, it's an old hardware to run marshmallow
Hi all,
I am requesting every user to post their device information given below to help rom porting from different devices. As this will become a list and will help porters to see device information from here.
The following information should be posted.
1. Your device name.
2. Android version
3. Kernel version (this is most important)
4. GPU ( which GPU it has such as Mali 400, Mali 450, etc).
5. CPU (which CPU it has such as MT6572, Snaapdragon 650 etc).
You can get this info by installing CPU-Z or AIDA64 from playstore
Thats all whats required.
As what i know is to port a rom from a device to other device you need to know 3 things.
There are good chances port will be a success
1. It must be same chip manufacturer such as MediaTek you can port mt6572 to mt6580, mt6582 to mt6580 etc.
2. It must have same kernel version although android version can be different.
3. Its Gpu must be same.
So i hope everyone is going to post their device info here so it can help porters to find the right devices for porting.

I have ported miui8, cm12.1, cm13, ressurection remix 5.5.9 and 5.6.7 on my device successfully.
Now i m going to port pure stock android lolipop on my device if i find same kernel version to my device with lolipop rom.
I hope this list will help a lot as it will have full list of all devices info.

Nop you can only port rom from similar chipsets to similar chipsets
Eg mt6582 to mt65xx
