Hey guys, I can't seem to get this figured out, so I have resorted to coming to the forum for help. On every single ROM I have ran lately EXCEPT the old LiquidSmooth 4.4.4(most recent version), I have had issues playing music through AUX. WHenever I would plug in my aux cable, play a song, then turn off my screen, the music would start lagging and there would be lots of static. but if I waked the device it would be fine. Turn the screen back off, same thing. It started happening after flashing this GPE ROM found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-m8-gpe-01232015-t3010825
Now it does it on Viper, any GPE or AOSP other than LiquidSmooth 4.4.4. I flashed Fluent ROM in the Verizon Dev thread last night and same thing. It will also do it on all versions of Viper(4.4.4 and 5.0.1). Is anyone else experiencing this? BTW I have not tested Bluetooth, so I don't know if it does it there too. I have tested the actual speakers on the phone, and it does not do it there, just on aux. kinda making me think it may be my cable, but I'm just looking to see if anyone else is having these issues.
Thanks in advance guys!

I have not flashed either. However, as we speak, I am updating my firmware to the new 5.0.1 firmware found here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159...and I downloaded the version for TWRP users, and I have the latest TWRP 2.8.5.0 installed. So maybe that will make a difference?

Possibly, but I doubt it. There's something telling the kernel to sleep which is why it happens when you turn your screen off. I'd try wiping /system before flashing a ROM. There might be something from liquid being left behind. Factory resets don't wipe /system. If you're ROM requires an intact /system such as Adrenaline, flash a stock rooted ROM first, then the custom ROM. That's what I'd try. Someone else might have a better idea.

Actually every single time I flash a new rom, I go into advanced wipe and wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache 3 times. Every Time. But I flagged that new firmware and was rubbing digital high rom from the Verizon thread and did not have the music issue. I'm running fluent rom sense 7 from the Verizon thread now but have not tested the music yet But will update you guys in the morning. Thanks for all your replies

Hi all,
My front facing phone speaker seems to be permanently muted. Whenever I get or make a phone call no sounds come from the speaker on the top front of the phone. When I switch to speaker mode everything works fine. Also the phone randomly disconnects from the phone network then reconnects. I was originally running Cyanogenmod 10.0.0 during which everything was working fine. I then upgraded to a nightly using the built in cyanogen upgrader. For a time after this everything continued to work. Eventually these problems began. I again upgraded, using the built in upgrader to 10.1.0 RC1 then 10.1.0 RC2 which didn't seem to change anything. Finally I used recovery to wipe the cache and factory reset and flash 10.1.0 RC2 and the latest gapps package. This didn't help either. I then repeated that process except with the version 10.0.0 of cyanogenmod which also did not fix the problem. I'm not sure if these problems are actually related but they seemed to start at around the same time. I've never knowingly flashed a radio on this thing, I'm not sure if the in app upgrader does this or not. I was wondering if anyone had a good idea on what my next course of action should be or if they have had similar issues and have found a solution.
Thanks.

If you were happy with everything working WHY in the world did you upgrade to a Nightly? Nightly by definition is only for people who know what they're doing and are not afraid of the Night.
Anyway, there are like 6.0221413e+23 changes from cm 10.0.0 to 10.1 RC2. What can I say you did a dirty flash (upgrade!), and probably didn't back up.
So the first thing you should do is back up. NOW (go to CMW recovery and back up)
Download a better behaving nightly like the one JD1639 uploaded. get it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272261
Download the UCMC1 radio (assuming you're on at&t)
Download the gapps 20130301
Put them all on in one folder for easy access
goto the CWM recovery and get to work:
1-backup
2-cleanup: go to mounts and format data, cache, system (don't format the sdcard!!!) and don't reboot until everything is finished
3-clean dalvik cache from advanced
4-install in this order: RADIO file.zip (UCMC1)
5-CM ROM
6-gapps
7-go to Advanced Restore option, find you back up and restore the "DATA" portion ONLY
This should save you ... good luck,
Commodore 64
Thanks for the reply.
That seemed to fix the connectivity issue but not the sound issue. I guess that could just be a hardware thing. If it were a software issue is there anything else I should try?

You know I don't think it is a hardware issue since it started after one of your updates. If you were on a ROM for while, and one morning you wokeup and the sound didn't work ... maybe. But i'm not convinced since also I remember around Feb-March there were some complains on sound not working after flashing to 4.2.2 version of the cm. Try flashing back to the stock UCMC1 ROM (absolute stock flashed with Odin not CMW) and then do a factory reset.
Hi all,
I've just bought a new SII Skyrocket to replace my Motorola Bravo -- the bravo was terrible purchase and though the Skyrocket is a two year-old phone I consider this a big step up.
I bought the phone on eBay and it was advertised as new. It arrived in its original packaging with the security seal intact, so I have no reason to doubt this. The phone is running ICS (4.0.4 build IMM76D.UFCLF6).
The phone arrived yesterday and I really like it, but I've encountered a weird issue. If I reboot the phone then it is no longer able to make any sound. Any action that requires sound -- incoming calls, outgoing calls, choosing a ringtone, playing music, taking a picture -- causes the phone to freeze for a minute or more and then become very slow. Rebooting again makes no difference. The only solution I've found is to reboot into recovery and factory reset, though this may only work after several tries.
- Has anyone heard of this issue before?
- Is it likely to be fixed by upgrading to Jelly Bean (I'll install a custom ROM if I can be sure that the phone is working properly) or is this more likely a hardware issue?
Apologies if this question has been answered before. I've searched the forums here and elsewhere, but I haven't found any mentions of similar issues.
Thanks for your help!
Try flashing a stock UCMC1 ROM and doing a factory reset after your flash finished successfully and Odin rebooted your phone.
3 things you need:
1- skyrocket windows drivers from Samsung website
2-Odin
3-stock ucmc1 tar ball.
Refer to this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228247
Good luck.

You don't need to install a custom rom. Try updating to official jellybean with kies, if that doesn't work then try C64's advice above with either UCMC1 or UXUMA7 (uxuma7 is less bloated).
The issue you're having is odd and I haven't encountered it before..

Thanks for the suggestions, C64 and lingowistico. Upgrading to JB was going to be my next move, but I wanted to know if anybody had seen this behavior first. I don't want to mess with the phone too much in case the seller will take it back (I may be on a loser there). I'll try the official upgrade and let you know.
Custom ROM not necessary -- true, but I've been running CM on my bravo for a couple of years and can't go back to a stock ROM. I'll try the de-bloated version of the official JB release, but I'd like something I can have more control over.
Cheers...

when phone is doing odd things the best way to ts is a complete wipe, formatting/removing sdcards then returning to stock w/odin, but you could try the debloated rom 1st just to test it out, if its resolved then its prob not hw related, just make a backup of ur current rom if planning on returning it but since you install an official stock it should also be returnable

Thanks Vincom. I don't have access to a Windows machine at the moment so haven't been able to try the upgrade.
One question -- how is it possible to make a backup of the current ROM without first rooting and installing a custom recovery? I suppose that I could install the custom ROM and create a nandroid backup. Then if I needed to restore I could restore the nandroid and reinstall the stock recovery. Is there an easier way?
Apologies, I just saw that you have information on reinstalling the stock recovery on your Newb Guide.
BTW, I want to say thanks for your work on the Newb Guide. One of the things that sold me on this phone was the support that it has here. Amazing to have all of the information on installing the custom recovery, rooting, etc. all in one place.

I believe I had this kinda issue once before, it was when I flashed CM10 or something. No incoming sound, sound did not work whatsoever, but installed a different kernel solved the issue, or flashing a new different rom.

UPDATE:
So, I managed to upgrade to the official JB 4.1.2 this evening. Had to do it twice.
First time the boot got stuck at the AT&T logo and PC wouldn't detect the device. I followed the directions in another post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34682377&postcount=9 to repeat the upgrade and the same thing happened.
On a whim I decided to try rebooting a few times to see what would happen -- and it worked! Sort of...
I'm repeatedly rebooting the phone and sometimes it will start without problem. However, most of the time it gets stuck when the AT&T logo appears exactly where it should play the start up sound, except it freezes and the sound never plays.
I'm guessing that wiping the data before had nothing to do with fixing the problem and I was simply getting lucky on reboot.
I realize that this is a hard question without having the phone in hand -- but does this sound like a hardware issue?
Thanks again to everyone for their help.
Boot into recovery and factory reset from there. That should clear up the boot loop issue.

Just a quick note to let you know how this was resolved. I returned the phone to the seller who provided a full refund.
Thanks again to those who respondend.:highfive:
Lately, I'm experiencing a lot of problems with my Xperia L. For one, when I turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, the phone just hangs for about five minutes before finally activating them. The same case applies to when I activate a wireless hotspot on my device. When I tap on 'enable wireless tethering', the phone completely hangs. This has really started getting on my nerves! :crying:
Also, when I capture multiple photos from my camera, I'm finding that some images are automatically rotated. I have to manually rotate them, which, of course, is no child's play.
Another issue that I'm facing is that the phone's gotten a bit unresponsive. It doesn't fire up applications like it previously did (not that I have many apps installed too. Just 4).
All this has got me thinking, was the Xperia L a waste of money? No firmware upgrades coupled with tons of bugs!
Should I risk it and go for a custom ROM? I really need some advice, fellow users! Please reply as soon as possible! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

It seems like you are on Stock ROM. If you have not done it already, try do a factory reset i know its not an easy task but it may bring your happy days back. If you are not a big Fan of Sony UI you can try Many KitKat ROMS that are available updated with Latest sources 4.4.4.
Very soon we might have almost Bug Free KitKat Custom ROM's, Its your wish to Flash a Custom ROM. (Losing Warranty)

I Also have this problem with WIFI and Bluetooth. Cant switch em on. I was on 4.2.2 update...
At first WIFI & BT are fine. About 2 weeks ago it starts restarting. When I'm lucky enough to reach inside the Setting and use phone for sometime, I tried to turn on wifi... Phone hangs... then restart.. Sometimes it takes several "auto" restart before i can operate the phone. But after those, everytime I turn on WIFI.. it hang/restart. Also happen w/ bluetooth.
I tried flashing/downgrade to 4.1.2 stock rom w/ flashtool. The restarting stopped/fixed... BUT, there's no way I can turn on wifi. i keeps switched off everytime i tried.
Finally, I installed CM11 kitkat cw. Everything looks new and fine ans smooth.. BUT... still cannot switch on wifi! and bluetooth!! >.<
I dont know what to do. Is this a hardware problem?? or is there a fix/zip i can flash to fix this??

I resolved the issue! It's going to sound extremely silly, but it worked wonders for me.
Basically, I deleted all downloaded apps that require a 'Full internet access' permission (The one with the WiFi icon), and viola! WiFi and Bluetooth work wonders now. I noticed this problem when I uninstalled Cleaner Master, and WiFi and Bluetooth jumped to life.
This is, however, a major setback. I can now download only a limited number of apps..
But hey, at least WiFi and Bluetooth work, so I've got that going, which is nice...
Any reasons why this may be happening guys?

You should perform a clean install of latest stock ftf. Looks like there's a problem with your kernel too. So flashing will put a new life to your phone. Remember to do clean install of firmware including kernel and wipe data alongwith resetting customizations.

will help you for sure if it's not hardware.
Hope it helps

So after doing a wipe to my phone (was becoming slow) my phone randomly restarts itself for no reason as if it just crashes. I am running the latest version of the beanstalk rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091900 I don't have the greatest understanding of flashing, roms, blah blah blah, but managed to get kit kat working for the last year or so, I don't understand why this is happening now, did I choose a bad rom or something? Everything else on the phone works but obviously constant restarts get to be very annoying.
Any help would be appreciated,
thank you!

Try leaving it turned on in recovery mode (CWM). If it still reboots, then you have a hardware issue. If it stays stable, I would blame the ROM and try a different version or a different distro.

Thanks for the reply,
I don't think it is a hardware issue as it never did this when I had Jelly Bean or even the last time I had Kit Kat, never know though! Also, I will try to leave it in recovery and see if it does it but a few questions:
-What is "distro" (does it has to do with the OS of the phone?)
-Is there some ROM you could recommend to me for this phone that is stable.. When I install the beanstalk ROM there are like 10 to choose from, I'm guessing they are all older/newer versions!?
-Finally something I was wondering for the longest time but wasn't sure of is can I go back to say, Jelly Bean? Or is it "irreversible"?
Thanks again, glad there's people out there who can help the noobs like me!

Methinks it is the specific ROM. I call the different types of OM out there distributions (or "distros" - in light of what is commonly used in the Linux world), but there may be a better term. It could be the version of Beanstalk you are using, it could be any version of BeanStalk with your phone. Hard to say.
In light of above, I would try CarbonROM. I tried it out briefly, and haven;t had a problem with it (and have heard no issues form the guy I sold the phone to with it installed).
But if you want to go back to JellyBean, there is still a version of 4.2 kicking around (CM 10.1) in the development threads. You can downgrade, at worst you may have to ODIN back to stock. But try to flash in CWM first. I was quite satisfied with that version. My biggest gripe is that the mobile data quick setting didn't work fully (but the long way around did). There is CM 10.2 as well, but I could never get that one installed on my phone (installer would break). Between the two, I would try 10.1 (and if you cannot find a copy, I can dropbox it to you).

YES!
So, after I left the phone in CWM for 25 minutes or so and it being fine I decided to get Carbon as I seen in your "signature" that you had that ROM on your Infuse, it has been good for 2 hours+, looking good! I guess it was the Beanstalk ROM after all.
Thanks for the downgrading information as well, wasn't sure if you could downgrade or what would happen!
Finally, what is flashing? (I could google it but since your here, could you give me a noob friendly definition!?)
Thanks for all your help

Went to reply about the camera issue and notice it was no longer in the post. Glad you got it sorted.
So flashing, as I understand it, is just another term for installing something via recovery. Not sure of the origin, maybe have something to do with installing to flash memory.

Ah ok, so it's essentially as I thought it was. I thought I was doing something wrong in terms of "flashing" but guess not! Sounds like it should just be called "Installing custom ROM".. !
Yeah, in terms of the camera thing, I'm an idiot and had USB storage turned on *facepalm*, So it wouldn't let me open the camera app!

I am not sure if you are still facing the same issue but if you are facing reboots, then considering doing a fresh install after cleaning your internal storage as well since the remnants of the apps from previous installs have caused me problems. Ever since I started doing a fresh install (Factory reset, wiping the cache, wiping the dalvik cache and even the cache partition along with the wiping of the internal storage), there have been no reboot issues.
Hello.
My problem is that sometimes, when I receive a notification, ambient display turns screen on to show it (as it should do normally), but then, when it is supposed to turn screen off again, it only goes black, but the backlight is still on. It's hard to notice, but I don't want the backlight on, using battery, when I think it's off.
The only way to turn it off is by activating ambient display again (moving the phone, waving in front of proximity sensor, pressing power button), and then it would show my normal lock screen and then turn off, until "something" makes it leave the backlight on again.
Anyone have/had/knows this issue? I've used Mokee ROM, now I'm on RR and it happened on both, I don't remember if it happened in CM. Could it be something app related?
Thanks.
Yeah same happened with cm 12.1 latest nightly too.....just checked it now...
The Answer
Hi there !
When you have installed the custom rom, you have probably flashed directly from another custom rom , is this correct?
If so, it may be your phones drivers slightly messed up at the moment seeing as it has different parts from other roms, depending on how you flashed it.
My solution would be to flash the stock firmware , which can easily be found in the forums, and then flash twrp, then your rom of choice. If that doesn't work, its likely a bug in that specific build of the rom you are installing , seeing as another person who has replied has had the same problem .

That's strange! I guess it may be something like the drivers you said, because just one user said that have the same problem, but I'll have to wait until I have some free time to flash stock and root and flash CM and restore all apps and that again... I hate that part of installing another ROM.

Ok, I have spent some time thinking about this one for you, as I really want you to get this one fixed!
Although I need abit more information.
1) Does the issue occur on stock rom?
2)Are you sure it is not a problem with the build you are running?
3)What exact steps did you use to flash the rom?
To show that you appreciate my help so far, please click thanks

Thanks!
1)I can't tell if it occurs on stock, because on stock I use moto display (which doesn't have this issue).
2) I'm almost sure, because I've used 2 ROMs and both do the same. Maybe I'll have to try with CM nightlies?
3)I followed the guide in "general" section to flash stock using fastboot and android sdk. After that, I booted on stock, then rebooted to bootloader, flashed TWRP, entered to recovery, wiped data and then flashed RR ROM with it's gapps and then flashed moto camera and gallery. After that, wipe dalvik and cache and rebooted to system.
Right , ok. I recommend trying one of the cm12 nightly builds, seeing as they worked on my phone fine in terms of ambient display

Well, the other user that commented on this post was also using latest CM nightly, so I'm not very positive about it, but I may try it when I have time.
Well , looking at all of the information In this post , I think it is safe to say ambient display is not fully working on many roms :/
I installed a new build of cm12 earlier, and I found that sometimes the backlight will stay on , but other times it is fine.
If you want to work on this together, email me at [email protected] , and then we can look into it abit further ?
I will take a thorough look into the forums to see if others are recieving any problems as well .
