[Q] Can I enable GSM calling on Nokia Lumia 2520? - General Questions and Answers

Hello
I have found that some people use voice call and text like smartphone on tablets with LTE or 3G connectivity
by loading Custom ROM.
I know that Samsung Galaxy tab and Sony Xperia Z3 Tab compact have a voice call feature, but I am not inclined to
buy those product because I persoanlly boycott those brands.
As far as I made researches about it, some tablets with GSM broadbands can be rooted for their voice calling features.
Among the tablets, Nokia Lumia 2520 LTE on Expansys.com version seems to support GSM network and have a reasonable
price. ( Unlocked Lumia 2520 LTE supports GSM network4: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz)
Can I root Nokia Lumia 2520 for GSM voice call if I install Andorid OS and then loading Custom ROM?
I am sorry for my limited English skill if you struggle with understanding my post, and I will appreciate for your reply.

[Q] US/Europe Commuter 3G Smartphone?

I am planning to upgrade my old/tired/beat-up HTC Prophet handset with something that supports 3G, but although just about all the smartphones I've reviewed are now quad-band GSM, I have yet to find an available Android or WM6 unit that supports high-speed data both in the U.S. (AT&T, 850/1900MHz) and the U.K. (O2, 2100MHz) In other words, I'm looking for quad-band GSM and UMTS 850/1900/2100 and am not interested in an iPhone... for several reasons. It seems that the Google Nexus One came in this configuration at one time but is no longer available.
Any suggestions?

cf-p2 help

Hi all I have a British Gas Panasonic CF-P2 Toughbook phone.
It uses Windows Mobile 2003 SE PDA edition with phone.
http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/CF-P2
The units are either gsm 850 and 1900 or quad band 2g.
There is not much information on the units.
They are all unlocked and are capable if class 10 gprs (FAST i know).
anyone have any ideas what data settings I would use for ATT usa?
The phone is really for when I travel and go on scuba trips as it is fully rugged. Data is really not a big deal But I must have it working. any help would help.
BTW these units were made in 2006 by panasonic just for British Gas Using us and canada gsm bands (however people say they work over in europe to so it is understood that why they were listed as gsm 850 and 1900 they were probably quad band). the unit does work here in us on both 850 and 1900 used it all day on tuesday.

[Resolved] HSPA 850/2100 frequency smartphone.

I've been searching 850 and 2100 3g supported smartphone.
Since I use at&t in the US but internationally travels, I think this is the best combination for me but those are not many.
I've only found Nexus One with at&t model which thought to be as fiasco and also HD2 T9193... Anyway those phones are old..
What else phones are available? Your help is much appreciated.

[Q] Nexus Help Please;

OK I have unlocked the Verizon Nexus, (No this is a contract phone) I mean my Nexus and the down-loadable from the market "Root" says, "Congratulations This Device Has Root Access!" (because I rooted it) When I hit the power button and power back up the Nexus and the volume I get a START > and below a Android lying down and beneath him "Fastboot Mode" is in RED and at the bottom it is also in RED and it says, "Lock State - UNLOCKED"
Here's my questions;
1. Can I now freely use another carrier ?
2. Because this is a Verison contract phone and it states it's "unlocked" am I free of Verizon to go to AT&T or someone else ?
3. If no is your answer what can I do so I can escape Verizon and make my Nexus to do and go where I want to go ?
Sincerely;
Michele Dazine
You are locked with Verizon since the device can only operate on Verizons CDMA Technology. Where AT&T is GSM. The Nexus is not duel band. Unfortunately you couldn't even go to Sprint even though they use CDMA because of the operating frequency bands are different.
I believe your only options are Revel, or PagePlus.

That just means that your bootloader is unlocked. You are not carrier unlocked.

So which is it ? Can I pay to have it unlocked and move to another carrier or how can I make it a GSM phone? Thank you
You cannot make a CDMA phone (Verizon, Sprint) work on a GSM network (AT&T, T-Mobile). When they say dual band, they mean 2G and 3G. Please stop thinking you can. The two types of phones have entirely different hardware and that information is all over the internet and this site.
Need help...
I live in New Jersey and have downloaded the Nexus toolkit on my computer for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus but don't know how to go from there to have my phone upgraded to 4.04. Here is my email if someone could guide me through the process. [email protected] I will then give my phone number for help through my email. Thanks for anyone that can help.

[Q] Verizon LTE: Voice Calling Support?

Hello everyone,
New to this forum and I wish I had found it sooner, great information!
I'm hoping someone here will be able to definitively answer a question I've been pondering for several months now: Is the Note Pro 12.2, US Verizon LTE model capable of making voice calls? I've seen "yes" and "no" everywhere, but I have not seen a specific reason why either way. It seems like it should be able to do this, but I'm no expert. If it can't, is it just a software limitation? Or is it missing some piece of hardware/radio, etc. needed for calling capability? I have seen a similar topic regarding the older note 10.1 tablet from 2012 and multiple sources claimed it was possible, so I would hope the same would be true for this one.
If it is at least possible through rooting, I am completely open to that as well. Thanks in advance for your guidance!
Anyone? Help me XDA Devs, you're my only hope!
additionally I've found that the Note 12.2 supports the following frequencies:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600
Again I'm not an expert, but as best I can tell Verizon uses the 800 MHz band for voice...so it at least looks like it is technically possible from a hardware perspective unless I'm missing something. Again, thanks for any help

Hi E2Xtreme,
You might want to take your tablet into a Verizon store and have them test it. I have an international Note Pro 12.2 LTE purchased from Asia, but I reside in Canada and I've not had any issues making voice calls on the Rogers network. As long as your device supports the radio frequency for the carrier, you should be fine, and yours being a Verizon-branded devices should be supported on their networks. The capability for performing phone calls is definitely there though. For my tablet, phone calls can be facilitated using the onboard speakers and microphone, plugged in earphones, or a bluetooth headset.
Hope that helps you, but to be sure, you're better off taking your tablet to a carrier's store for testing, if they have one.
From what I understand, Verizon blocked the ability to make Voice Calls unless you use Google Voice.
shardsx - Thanks for the info, good to hear from someone who actually got it working!
tdetroit - I've read that too. I guess since they only offer data plans with tablets? In any case it's frustrating since the device is capable. I was also under the impression that locking the device in such a way was not allowed by the FCC. In any case, if they removed it I have to believe there is someway to get it back...
I took the plunge and ordered one. Really interested to get this on the bench and see if I can make it work. I'll report back with updates!

Yes, it is capable. No, Verizon doesn't support VoLTE yet though they've announced plans. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news...on-wireless-volte-national-rollout-plans.html

They haven't blocked any calling features. They do not yet support VoLTE as a network. The S5 and Note 3 are ready also, but they have the additional modems needed to use the legacy voice network and the Note Pro either does not, or it is not fully enabled (not the same as blocking if a custom kernel could make it available and you knew how to set it up).
