sd card & root access under fresh installed cm12? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i finally found out that i clouldnt install cm12 on my D6606 just because of the "leo" "z3" bug in the script updater! Everything works like a charm now!
after getting my first lollipop experience there are 2 questions to ask:
1. how can i get the sd card access for all my apps? is there a fix for it?
2. how can i get root access back on cm12? is this even possible?
thanks for this great forum it helps me a lot to understand!

To get to root access in CM12, go to the "about" in settings. Tap on the "build" several times and you will get notification that you have opened developer mode. Exit about... go to developer mode and there you can access Super User for root.
As for the SD card issue... I came here because I am also looking for answers. It is apparently a problem for many of us that is not being addressed by the folks at CM.

Nook Color CM7 on SD - Root?

Hi all -
Sorry for the noob question - I looked and could not find the answer.
I have CM7 installed on an SD card, mounted in a non-rooted Nook Color v1.2. Every thing is working great!
I am now trying to edit the build.prop file to get NetFlix working. However, after making the edits I cannot save the file. I assume that this is because of the lack of rooting.
My questions is... what do I need to root? Does the CM7 OS installed on the SD card need to be rooted? If so, how? I cannot find anything referencing this.
Or, is it that the Nook itself needs to be rooted? I can find documentation on this!
Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to avoid rooting the Nook itself if possible.
Thank you,
John
i have the same exact question, trying to do the exact same thing, modify build.prop on a nook color with CM7 on SD. i dont' understand what is actually "rooted" - is it the OS or the kernel or the boot loader???
thanks for any help!
Should I assume you figured out the solution already? If not, the easiest way I've found to edit the build.prop is to use Root Explorer. It's on the Google Marketplace. I believe it was a couple dollars, but well worth it.
When you open it, it will request super user permissions. Allow this. Browse to the system folder and then click the button at the top, "Mount R/W". Edit the build.prop file and save. Make sure to click the "Mount R/O" button to put it back into read-only mode. Then restart the device. Netflix should work fine then.
I go through this every time I install a nightly build, which has been quite frequent lately due to my geeky curiosity for new possible features. If I don't edit build.prop with "HTC Vision" and "HTC", the playback is in fast forward.
Hey Sonic - I'm having the same issue these two guys are. SU doesn't think the system is rooted (I'm using the latest nightly). Root Explorer doesn't give an option for RW, and when I try installing busybox, it barks that it isn't rooted. Even ROM manager (i know, ugh) barks about root not being there in the nightly.
I attempted to roll back to the 703 stable build, but for some stupid reason when I do that, I can't power-off/reboot-recovery option (it just reboots, doesn't go into recovery mode - which is then out of the question, because no gapps).
So...arrrgh.

Gallery & other apps not able to read USB Storage

NS4G
So i was running burns' CM10 and everything was perfect. I recently flashed Jellybro and Baked. Both roms are unable to access the usb storage via certain apps. Gallery cant read anything and settings like reading the usb storage for ringtones are unable to access it, although solid explorer is able to access the usb storage just fine. I flashed back to my burns nandroid and it is still able to read usb storage. nothings wrong there, but these other roms cant. Two different ones, dont know what the deal is. Any help?
I'm having the same issue here. I did a lot of reading today and heard a lot about the whole /storage/sdcard0 thing. Maybe that's part of it? Would love to know if there's something we can do for a temporary fix or if we're just kind of stuck for now. I'm running euroskank's jellybro.
Update on my situation: everything is back to normal now. The only thing that changed for me since was ROM Manager got an update. Changelog mentioned something about .nomedia files being place in wrong places.
So you just updated ROM manager? Not your recovery?
Yah, just the market update for Rom manager. Dunno what that changed, but now my gallery is working and play music finds songs.
Alright. I'm going to try that with those two roms I was using. I normally uninstall ROM manager haha. So thank you for the update and hopeful fix.

Please insert a SD card... MotoG

OK guys, I've a little issues from my side so i'll like to have your point on it!
First of all, I'm not a noob, so if you have an answer to my lil' probleme, let's talk and dont be soft
I've a Motorola MotoG XT1032 using Infusion (JB) custom ROM... 3 days ago, I've install CM11 on my device! I'm not a big fan of KitKat so I've decide to go back on JB!
After the installation of Infusion, I've test everything (to be sure I've installed my ROM well and to be sure too I've the good GApps)
So, I deceide to re-install my apps... No probleme! When I'm trying to use the Camera, I receive the following error message:"Please insert a SD card"
Actually, the MotoG isin't using a external SD Card... So I go to the Storage Manager and everything work well... I still have 2GB available! So I deceide to take a quick look into my files manager and I found something:
Into root/storage, I've that
<code>
emulated
sdcard0
sdcard1
usbdisk_1.0
usbdisk_1.1
usbdisk_1.1.1
usbdisk_1.2
usbdisk_1.3
usbdisk_1.4
usbdisk_1.5
usbdisk_1.6
usbdisk_1.7
</code>
So... my question is:"Where my camera are saving their files?"
UPDATE: I can install apps without probleme... But I cant save information cuz it say the same error code!
Thank's
Chris
UPDATED:
I've try to change the permission of 2-3 folder in my root/storage and I've receive an "Permission error" like:"You don't have permission to make theses changes"
So I've try to add my Files Explorer app to the SuperUser accept list... Dosen't work!
So I start thinking something are wrong with my Root! I'm looking with RootChecker
SORRY, YOUR DEVICE ARE NOT ROOTED!
That's crazy to receive that kind of message when you'r using the RootChecker on a CustomRom
So, Idk if thats probleme are linked to my "Please Insert your SD Card" but I'm going to root my cellphone again with Sideloader!
If anyone have a solution or want to share their experance, feel free to answer!

[How to]LG G3 correct trouble accessing external sd card...

This is NOT an issues with your LG device, rather it was a decission made by Google that will most likly be fixed in Android L.
If you're rooted or plan on rooting your G3, this app from the Play store will easily fix access for you.
This app is what I used and it worked fine within seconds. However if you would rather do this manually, follow these steps:
I use Root Explorer , however, most any file manager should work.
System>etc>permissions>platform.xml
Then add the following, to the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE section.=:
<group gid=”media_rw” />
Thanks Tony! And sorry about the S4 again
SD Fix
I just rooted and used one of the SD fix apps. It's easy and you can always flash back to stock rom, if you need to.

This version (AT&T) has no alternative roms. Please don't confuse the issue by saying "flash back to stock rom".
Glad this helped you with your sd card.
I think he was referring to flashing the stock Rom with flash tool to reset the root counter
Yep there is a stock Rom and you flash it with LG flash tool. Don't see anything confusing about what I said. If it confused someone then they can ask questions

While stock firmware is a rom, it is best to call it firmware. this is mainly for the sake of new users becoming confused and looking for roms to flash. This would be where one need go, in the case of any mishap.:good:
This all said, rest assured to those looking at this thread, using one of the apps from the market will not corrupt your system.
What sd card problem is it? I just bought it last week so I am not aware of it. And Google Play is link not working.

Why your SD card doesn't work the same in Android 4.4 KitKat, and the reasons for the change
"Curse you, Google! Your KitKat update broke my SD card!"
Poke around the Android section of the Internet and you'll hear something similar. Users like you and me are in an uproar because they updated their phone to Android 4.4 KitKat, and now the SD card support has changed. Apps no longer work, folks have problems with cameras and music players, and while everyone else is saying "Oh, yeah. That's how it works now," nobody warned them in advance before they grabbed that update.
There is a lot of push against these changes, with petitions and threats of grassroots movements that threaten to show Google the error of its ways — even a very popular developer that I won't name has their PR people sending out requests for blogs to write about evil Google.

[Q] Cannot access SD-Card in Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H ?

Hello folks, i have Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H and i have rooted my phone and installed the CWM recovery, which i think has done good.
Even the phone after being rooted hasn't done me any good.
I had initially started a topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-core/help/copy-to-ssd-samsung-galaxy-core-2-sm-t3033178
But the OP hasn't been able to give me some working solutions.
So i am asking to anyone who knows about this stuff. I have rooted and installed CWM recovery, that still given me authority
over my SD-Card, i cannot copy/paste/delete/rename basically access it fully.
The only way i can do is, remove the SD-Card and insert in a Card reader and copy/paste/delete etc.
But i cannot directly do from phone itself.
I already have fX Explorer, Solid explorer and ES File Explorer.
Nothing has worked, so i am asking can anyone show me how to do that.
I would be grateful for your suggestion.
Awaiting reply.

Have you flashed new firmware ?
New kernels (boot.img) have default ro acess to sdcard !
Please state your infos :
Model
Modem
Core build ...
The workaround I provide for this type won't work after update !!!
You will have to flash previous boot or recompile the new boot

Have U read my last reply ?

The FS /system and other too is/are readonly (ro) in device, so if u want to delete or copy inside this partition u must change it to rw (readwrite), it's better for you to use some Explorer root based application like FX Explorer with root addon ...
If u have copied the update zip to extSdCard and run the update procedure in stock recovery U should be able to copy/edit/delete files on your extSdCard - Card if the install were sucessfull.
For a check: Install app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...=nextapp.sdfix and check again things now U'r rooted. Regards

I have already installed at least a dozen of explorer, most promising was fx explorer with it free root access add-on, the other was ES File
explorer. They both can't copy/paste files to Memory card.
My device is Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H, Android 4.4.2. I have already rooted and installed CWR mode, but i havn't flashed my firmware.
I am searching now for a possible firmware update, that could access memory card.
Could you do a small part from your side and find a firmware that can be flashed in my device, i will try from my side. :good:
Will update , if i find some solution.

The users in this forum don't know how to read posts. U'r among them too. Sorry for my statement, but it's true.
It's not only the explorers, apps or managers that can copy files from/to. The KitKat have a fix for KitKat SDCard ro access.

All of the stock firmwares uses KK RO acess for SdCard unless U install some custom & fixed ones.
Have also provided many tutorials in the subforums detaily how to fix it for GC2 models.
Latest firmwares uses some extra functionality regarding SDCards, fix will not work unless ...
Enjoy.

OK, thanks for the statement. I accept, i am a newbie here. I can figure my way through most of the other forum out there.
But one pertaining to Mobile device require's little more knowledge, because its tricky, since there are a huge number of devices.
I am not a regular visitor.
Anyways, i found a firmware for my device.
Link:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G355H/
http://samsung-updates.com/details/42605/Galaxy_Core_2/SM-G355H/INS/G355HXXU0AOC1.html
The second link to the firmware matched the hashes to the link in the first link.
Did the Odin thing, and all the necessary steps. But still i am not able to copy/paste/delete etc function.
So i technically give up for this device, i'll use it as it is.
@StratOS_HTC: I tried the KitKat access app from Google Play store, a number of them. But they all showed similar results.
But i'll be open to your opinion.
Thank you.:good:

As said and will said again :
Please read carefully !
Hope your phone works ok and everything else on phone is ok.
If you can't access your extSdCard throught phone do a low level format ( and hope you don't use 64 GB ).
Hope also you don't use any other EXT partition on your sdcard. or any other sd linkage or swap options on your sdcard
Format the sdcard as only extFAT or FAT on any other comp card reader and reformat it on the phone !
Now you should be able to access the sdcard on your phone if every thing else on phone is ok.
If U'r rooted on stock ( KitKat sdcard restriction ) and if U have installed nextapp.sdfix and grant su access to it the app will change this permissions for you and you will be able to aceess rw to sdcard now.
