Android 5.0-5.1 Bugs/Annoyances - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. On 5.1 there is still no option to add hidden SSID WIFI network on first setup steps ("Select WiFi network" after selecting language), if there is no other visible WIFI networks in the range.
2. Still no silent mode, and still bug after restarting phone with volume level on 1 changes it to 0 (silent mode?). What if I want to use my ringer on level 1 volume?
3. No option to turn off automatic network change to mobile data when WiFi has no internet connection.
4. ART is slow on booting times after cleaning cache in recovery, or after flashing stock image, or after flashing custom ROMs, and when installing new apps, etc. Also it eats more space than dalvik. And after all it is not saving battery life or offers better performance (try to flash some kitkat ROMs after 5.x and you'll notice how fast your Nexus on dalvik).
5. Power saving's orange bars. Why orange? Why I can't change color? Why it changes to orange at all?
6. Still no reboot menu.
7. Still no option to clear all recent apps and no option to stop keeping them after reboot.
8. Very slow dialer app, especially when power saving is turned on. There is more than 3 seconds lasts before caller screen appears.
I'm sure there is still a lot of bugs and annoyances in the latest android. But I don't know why they're (Google) not fixing it. And not listening to customers. Android 5.1 just arrived - and ruined all hopes that many things will be better.

1. Cant help you there. It would be a good option. I do agree.
2. You do have silent mode. Its just implemented differently to allow for certain priority events (configurable)to occur which I personally like.
But it would be nice if they added a pure silent mode too.
3. For me, I simply turn off cellular data if I don't want it to switch to mobile data.
4. No argument there. But my N5 is fast enough its not really bothersome for me.
5. I guess orange so you are aware the mode is active? CM Themer can change the color in many custom ROM's (I think)
6. Agreed. This should be an option in stock Android. But for me, a custom ROM such as euphoria fixes the reboot shortfall.
7 Again I agree. This should be an option in stock Android. Custom ROM fixes this except no option to stop keeping them after reboot that I can find.
8. I guess its slow because battery saver has lowered your cpu in an attempt to extend battey . For me it is ok, life is full of tradeoffs.

Flying spaghetti monster. I'm so sick of people pitching about the new silent mode. I wish these people would stay on KitKat or switch to iPhone.

Is there anyway to fix number 3 with some app or module on xposed?

well first of all none of the things you mentioned fall in Bug category.
second all options you asked for were never be on stock rom and never will be...stock android remains as simple as Google wants ..if you need other options use custom roms with their bugs/problem !
3rd we moved on from Kitkat and we are Ok with some difference in Lollipop...this is not Crappy iOS or Laggy Touchwiz who always looks same & have same funtions ...you are not Ok with it stay on Kitkat , No one if forcing you ! or Buy device with one of those -_-
Finally don't start thread for only giving your opinions or desires or well known things ...there are thousands of nexus 5 owners on XDA , imagine what will happen if all of them will do same as you ! ( we already have 5.1 discussion thread you could have place your so called "bug list " there ! )

4g lte
in italy, with vodafone, the phone does not connect more in 4g but only in 3g / h.
before 5.1 (with 5.0.1) everything was ok

So, when device can't connect to hidden wifi on first run, it's not a bug, it's feature?
Or, when device volume set to 1 and after reboot it becoming completely silent, it's feature too? No bugs on stock Android?

You people complain about these "you-can-live-without" issues. Haven't you seen the 5.1 changelogs? It has 14,694 commits. Again, 14,694! Most of them are of MEMORY LEAK bugs and other necessary optimizations to make the phone usable at the moment. Then you'll complain about not having that silent mode? Dalvik won't consume that much if you remove some bloatwares. Then the orange status and navi bars coz of the battery saving mode? Seriously?! Can't you find more serious bugs than that?

I never used hidden SSID on android so i don't know what problem is occurring to you and i also don't know whether older verson like 4.4.4 was wroking with it or not.
I use MAC restricted WAP2 and it connected without problem in 1st bootup
Btw why you are using hidden SSID ? More security ? Then here you Go if any other reason tjen you should probably ask other user using SSID about this

I justs checked it and this is not happening to me , it stays on 1 after reboot also.....so may be something wrong with your device you should try factory reset if you didn't already

Real annoyances I have on stock 5.1:
1. Name of provider above data toggle in quick settings randomly dissapears
2. After phone restart there is allways "No internet connection" warning in Google app
3. Scrolling bug is really there
4. And I still don't now, how the h*** you integrate updates of system apps into rom

Some ICS 4.0 bugs and quirks

NOTE: This is a list of bugs for STOCK (NON-MODDED) ICS 4.0.3 & 4.0.4 (LC4, LD2, and LE2) (Most bugs from the initial LC4 leak fixed after the two major version leak updates) from DesignGears.
If you have flashed to ANY OTHER CUSTOM ICS 4.0 ROM, PLEASE WRITE IN THE DEVELOPERS' / ROM thread.
1 - 03/26/2012: When selecting "Contacts to Display" and selecting CUSTOMIZE LIST > Selecting ONLY Google Contacts (EXCLUDE G+).
Then you start typing someone's name, it returns contacts in SIM card and on Google contacts.
2 - 03/26/2012: Autocorrect on the included "Android Keyboard" doesn't work by pressing spacebar.....like it had been in previous 2.3.6. Even when changing setting to VERY AGGRESSIVE. FIXED IN UCLD2 LEAK
3 - 03/26/2012 [CONFIRMED] When deleting a message thread, the phone will freeze and turn into a blank screen (except notification bar) then the messaging app will close. FIXED IN UCLD2 LEAK
4 - 03/26/2012: [CONFIRMED] When using the "PHONE" icon to bring up dialer, contacts tab is no longer associated in it.
5 - 03/27/2012: 50/50 Users report more sensitivity on the touch screen, some report lack of sensitivity of touch.
6 - 03/27/2012: HOW TO take screen shot: Press AND HOLD ... VOL DOWN + POWER BUTTON for at LEAST 1-2 SECONDS. You will then be prompted to view the screenshot in notification bar / indicator.
METHOD #2 of taking screenshots: Press and HOLD Power button + HOME key.
7 - 03/29/2012: Some users report when tapping "RESTART" or "SHUTDOWN" on STOCK Power-button option, the phone will freeze. Either you have it or you don't. FIXED IN UCLD2 LEAK
7 - 04/02/2012: Users report echoing or unable to hear other party on an INCOMING call. This is a "hit or miss" bug.
8 - 04/02/2012: [CONFIRMED]Bluetooth stack in the new kernel has resolved a LOT of vehicle-to-android phone issue (static, drops, functions, etc.).
10 - 04/04/2012: [CONFIRMED BIG ISSUE] When creating a new contact in phone and setting it to GOOGLE CONTACTs; forcing a sync or auto-sync option will NOT push the contact to google servers for backup purposes. However, deleting or creating a contact while logged in on a full web browser will push it back to the phone via sync. FIXED IN UCLD2 LEAK
11 - 04/09/2012: [CONFIRMED] There are known issues with stock email app. Syncing unread/read e-mails will not push back to exchange server email client. Also emails me not completely send and stays "stuck" in outgoing box.
FIX (Thanks dixit):
This google thread shows the official issue and show that it was fixed officially in 4.0.4.
https://code.google.com/p/android/is...etail?id=23534
If you scroll down to post 51 you will see there is a link where someone put the two 4.0.4 APKs from a Spring Nexus S 4G which fixes this issue as explained above. So just go to that link, download the two Email/Exchange APKs, put them in System/App, correct permissions, remove your two Samsung Native Email APKs, and that will fix the issue of emails being stuck in the outbox.
Here is the direct link to those two APKs off Post 51
http://files.devphone.org/404mail/
11 - 04/15/2012: [CONFIRMED] When adjusting ringtone level in SETTINGS > SOUNDS, the ringtone level will not lower or raise; it stays at one level.
FIX: Adjust via volume rocker while in any other system screen (Home, MMS, etc) BUT NOT IN-APP. *Thanks petrochemicals!*
Here's what I found and posted in another thread...
So far so good except a few things:
1) I hate the fact that "contacts" are no longer visible in the dialer. Now I need another icon that I rarely use. The only option appears to hit menu and select contacts from there.
2) The "power off" and "restart" options in the extended power menu (hold power button down) seem to lock up and freeze whenever I try to use one of these thus requiring a battery pull. Anyone else experiencing this?
3) Can't use built in hotspot tethering anymore. This is something that I use with my tablet often. Any solutions other than a 3rd party app? If not, what app is everyone using for hotspot tethering?
4) Why in the world don't the signal bars turn green once fully connected? It's driving me crazy because normally that means its not connected to your Google account. This is the first time I've seen this (of MANY different Android phones). - This appears to be an ATT thing as other carriers and phones change the signal bars color when its connected to your google account (as it always should be).
Grey bars, works for for me; turning green = same color as battery = confusion to some it is acting as a double icon of ur battery? lol
I don't get a freeze in the menu.... I'm assuming you're talking about the built-in menu not a modded one? I just use the one that came with the ICS.
Hotspot tethering, you'll have to wait for a dev to mod that unless you are wanting an app for it.
I can tell you that I got my portable hotspot to work. It gave me numerous error messages though when I first went to set it up and the screen freezes when I turn it on. I went back to home and back to the hotspot settings and the toggle remained on. I changed the default password to all 9s bc I was getting an invalid password error. After that, I connected my old iPhone to the Skyrocket wi-fi.
I used to use Barnicle Wi-fi tether but it doesn't work now. Is there a difference between the stock portable wi-fi hotspot program on the phone and Barnicle? Im just curious if Barnicle masked the fact that the user was tethering.

Yes, I'm referring to the built in power menu. I fixed permissions in CWM and still no go. Any ideas???
I find the keyboard to be a bit slow on the responsive side. Anyone else running into that or am I just trying to type too fast?
Perform a Factory data / reset?
I find the new keyboard fairly responsive vs the old one; I just thought i typed too fast for the old one lol. This one actually keeps up and Swype keyboard tapping works more fluent as well.
good job guys, keep up the troubleshooting so hopefully some devs will cook up a nice rom

I'll give that a spin. I did that once already to fix my home button problem, so I'll try and do another. But yea I use to use the ICS keyboard from the market on GB, and that was quick enough for me.
stuff I notice so far
I did notice the contact tab missing from dialer. The menu selected one doesn't allow right and left swipe for call/text. In the contacts app, the swipe works ok.
the only real problem for me, thus far, is when deleting SMS threads; messaging force closes.
Anyone else have that?
BTW thanks for starting this thread, wasn't sure where to post bugs - I think this may be usefull to keep them all in one spot.
Getting some odd behavior from Rom Mngr
Aside from other errors I got, when I ask ROM Mngr. to perform a task, I get a bunch of errors like "Messaging has failed," "Internet has failed," "com.google.xx" has failed. But then it goes and performs the request.
However! Whereas on 2.3.6 UCLA3, when requesting a backup via ROM Mngr., it would go straight to the backup whereas now, it goes into CWM and I still have to select Backup from the option there.
Deleting threads freezes my messaging also.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Noticed a new one.
Not getting pictures with messages now, too.
Nvm. Damn - I hate bug posts. They come, they go.
The only thing I've noticed so far is I don't seem to get LTE in my house anymore. Boo...
I'm having issues with audio files. I can't use either Google Play Music, Samsung Music Player or Doubletwist to play audio. It creates duplicates which I believe corrupt the file itself.

I get it too, but there is no need for a battery pull if it freezes during a restart.
Press and hold the power button and the phone will restart after a few seconds.
It's a leak, not an official release, so I fully expected bugs.
Face unlock crashes a lot for me.
It fails o power on the camera and then the keypad doesn't respond for PIN input.
Requires a reboot.

Run factory data reset, then fix permissions and then reboot. Face unlock works perfect and pin input works.

systemUI FC loop
flashed this rom yesterday. almost everything was fine till mid night. when i woke up phone was off. turned on the device and found systemUI FC loop. i am tired of this. going back to stock. is there any ROM out there without this any issue which ran at least 1 week. please let me know.
incoming call display problem
i have been using this rom since the begining and its the best available for moto g (xt1033). i have only faced one issue and that is ; upon an incoming call, the phone rings and vibrates as it should timely, but the display remains black for around 8-10 seconds and then the contact info pops up. i have tried multiple setting changes but the problem is still there. hope any body knows the answer to it.
sim not detected
it is unable to detect sim on my moto g dual (xt1033)

Make a backup of your current ROM. Try. And if something going bad, return with the backup. [emoji41]
I'm going to install this version on multirom.
I think 10.3 don't have good battery backup..if they include battery saver mode it will be great.
Incoming call not displayed
Installed and found this issue.
the erased everything and installed fresh just to see that the problem persists on a fresh install as well.
I like the ROM and have found a usable solution to keep it but would prefer to have it working as it should.
I read a lot that this is a common problem on Original Nexus 5 phones, so maybe it is ported together with the ROM.
When screen is on and incoming call is made the melody is playing, phone is vibrating (if set to do so) and in the notification bar is a notice of incoming call. if pulled down there is an option to answer or deny the call in the notification drawer.
When screen is off and incoming call is made after ca 1-2 seconds of melody playing dialer screen appears with number or contact name and option to answer or decline the call. As it normally should be.
After trying many setting changes the closest to usable solution i have come is to enable Heads Up.
If you want to try that you need to follow this route: Setings > Notification Drawer > Heads Up. I set it to ON and it shows incoming call in a pop up when the screen is on. when the screen is OFF the incoming call appears as normal.
my phone is moto g 16gb with dual sim.
---------- Post added at 09:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 AM ----------
And another issue that i have come across in a fresh install is that Android File transfer on my macbook does not detect my Moto G when Developer options and Android debuggin (in developer options) is set to off.
Even the phone displays a notification that it is connected as a media device and in usb connectin settings i can switch between media device and camera. When i selct camera mode my mac detects the phone and opens camera/gallery window. as soon i change that to media device it disconnects
With stock rom it connected every time i plugged it in.
Am i missing somethin or is there a bug or that is the way it should be in this ROM ??

The pocket mode problem persists. It detects fine when the phone is taken out of the pocket but when put back the screen remains as it is. Anyway this ROM is the beat for motog ,so I can work with the faulty pocket mode.

I love dark themes. Any chance to add the dark theme in your build as aosp roms on this rom. I would not change this rom but I would like to have the option to change it to black theme, or do you know of any other alternative?

MIUI optimization in Developer Options

Yeah i tried but i don't see differences. Obviously there are but i don't know in our case so
I know my Samsung watch won't pair with this on using the Samsung gear app
Well, I turned mine off.
Do Not Disturb reset to the normal Android O one.
Some visual things changed in the data usage screen.
The "app is running in the background" notifications from Android system showed up. Previously Miui hid it (hopefully they'll update to android 8.1 soon and we'll be able to hide those).
Otherwise I haven't noticed any other changes. I'll monitor over the next few days and see.
My maim concern right now is DND mode. I use it every night. (And the stock Android one only allows for one time, rather than different times on weekdays and weekends.)
If you use any wearables or any apps with usage access, it's better to turn it off. The MIUI optimization screws with background processes in my experience.

Beta updates thread #ColorOS 13 #OppoFindX5Pro #OppoAmbassadors

Hi guys just making this thread to keep everyone as up to date as possible on the ColorOS 13 and what to expect. I'm currently downloading the beta firmware that's been released to the Ambassador's possibly to more users outside the ambassador program so here's the current file size and change log. Any questions fire away.
After 24 hours or so later from installing the beta I have noticed a few slight issues nothing show stopping so far so here's slight run down of things I have found so far:
1. Google Wallet:
Due to this being Beta firmware you are given this error,
I have yet to test to see if contactless payment might actually still work despite the warning message but I do plan to test it anyway.
2. Brightness issue:
After installing the new Beta I noticed that when the device was booting up the screen was lovely and bright. However as soon as it gets passed the boot animation all of a sudden the screen got really dark to the point that even screenshots became dark as well note the warning image above. After some digging about in the settings menu I came across an option within the dark mode settings called "Reduce contrast in low-light conditions". After i disabled that option the screen brightness and screenshots returned to normal again.
3. The Power Menu:
With this new update the power menu has changed quite a lot when you press the power button or the power + volume up depending on your setup you will no longer see the the Emergency, Restart or Power off buttons at the top. What you will see now is a sliding option in the middle of your screen to Restart or Power off. However not sure if it related to my first point but i no longer have options for quick access to my contactless payment options. Hopefully once the official version gets released having quick access to my payment options will return
Before:After:
Can you check these things for me?
1. Does ColorOS 13 allow hiding lock screen pattern? It's not there in ColorOS 12 despite being a feature in stock Android since forever.
2. Go to App info of Google Drive, then Open by Default. Does it have the option to turn off 'Open supported links'? It's there in stock Android 12 but not ColorOS 12. An example is provided below.
3. When you use App drawer mode (App drawer seperate with Home screen) and long press a user-installed app icon, does it allow uninstalling, or just removing the shortcut? I can do this in OneUI and OxygenOS 10 but not in ColorOS 12.
4. In App Drawer, when pressing the three dot icon above an app, does it allow going to 'App Info' of that app? Again, I can do this in OneUI but not ColorOS 12.
(the top option is App info)
These little things have been bugging me since updating to 12, so really appreciate if you can confirm if they have fixed them in ColorOS 13
I update to for android 13 and the phone is hot in idel and the battery drain fast
I have a question about the new version. Did they change how notifications behave on the lockscreen? At the moment notifications dissapear from the lockscreen in these scenarios:
- after you unlock and lock your phone, notifications disappear
- after a while (say 5 to 30 minutes) notifications dissapear from the lockscreen after having unlocked the phone.
All oppo, realme and (since oxygen 12) oneplus phones have this behavior.
I want to know if all notifications stay on the lockscreen no matter how many times you unlock your phone or how many hours they have been sitting there.
Any update to our questions?

Does this mean it automatically chooses the strongest? Or does it mean it automatically goes to 5G settings?
Second beta works perfect
Few days ago i sign up for the beta tester, yesterday evening i got notification for update to 13 beta.
Excited at first but after reading known issues (2nd beta) one of them is "laggy in some situation" i decided to stay at 12 and waiting for the stable version of 13.
Then i wake up this morning, open my phone then realize it has been automaticly updated overnight -_-
I use my phone looking for new features and functions for about an hour, didnt find any bugs except for the universal search in app drawer is not working. Turn that off and now the search function is working properly. Google wallet is not popular around here so i dont use them. So far i like the looks of the new ui.
Gonna update here if i found other bugs, the phone feels a little bit slower tho (barely noticable, 0.xx second slower), hopefully due to the phone still processing updates and optimization of the new os.

Question Delayed notification on text messages

Sometimes I don't get a notification of an incoming text message until several minutes after it was sent. I'm totally stock and I have disabled adaptive battery and I gave unrestricted battery usage to the messages app. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
Do u maybe have doze/aggressive doze options in any apps u have? Maybe wifi/mobile connection disabled at screen off/lock option somewhere? Anything like that in general? Provider/connectivity issues recently? Poor signal issues at all? R u rooted running stock or non-rooted? Is it just recently? Installed any 'new' appz at all? Lotsa possibilities...gotta go thru and try n tick 'em off one at a time...a bit of detective work should give u a suspect...hopefully.

As I said, the phone is totally stock. The wifi and mobile is on. I think the signal strength is fine and I don't think it is a provider issue. I don't understand what you mean about the doze option in apps. I've never heard of that - what kind of app would have those options? I think it has happened since I've had the phone, but it is hard to say since it only happens sometimes and it took me a while to notice it as a pattern. I don't get a lot of texts typically and if I get a text, I don't always notice that it has been delayed. I think that it might happen most with the first text I get in a day.
'Doze' is a low power mode that android goes into after a few hrs. with no activity or screen wakeup. But if ur not rooted then I think it requires ADB to allow perms...if u did, you'd know it...lol
If there's no 'suspect' apps installed then the next step of uninstalling 1 app at a time until there no more occurrences may not be feasible. Only other option I can think of sux...a factory reset with wipe then add ur apps one at a time etc...

Thanks. I can't think of why an app would be able to affect this problem and I don't want to go through that amount of work, so I'm going to live with it and wait and see.
I'm having this issue as well. I'm in Mexico on a Mexican sim. Texts taking a long time to come through
