Lollipop enables band 4 XLTE - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Not sure if this information has been posted...

Verizon has begun rolling out the long awaited HTC One M8 Android Lollipop update to owners of the smartphone this week and in the process, enabled expanded access to its LTE network by activating the previously dormant Band 4 (1700 AWS-F band) for access to its XLTE high-speed network overlay. This update is expected to substantially improve coverage for customers that have been dealing with network congestion on the primary 700Mhz LTE network. The carrier is rolling out the update in waves and has posted a*detailed changelog*with the changes on its support page for the phone.

Its dated for about a week ago so I'm gonna say its the update we just got. I don't know what app we could use to see what bands are active or enabled. I'm sure there is something out there though.

Maybe it was Viper ROM but I am pretty sure mine has been active as of kit kat....as I can get speeds of 70-80 down in areas that only used to be 5-10

I wish i can get speeds like that

Hm, I had band 4 when I was running Viper and some other ROMs as I recall. I wonder if it enables Carrier Aggregation with band 4, which I asked last night in Q&A section.

Well depends on where you live....nowhereville Montana isn't getting xlte deployed as quick as metro NJ..but even then I'll get crazy fast speeds at work but if I walk a block away I get only .3 on LTE! So even in highly congested areas they haven't upgraded to xlte.

Use LTE Discovery app if you want to know what band and cell you're on. It's very useful.

"Lte discovery"app says I'm on lte band 13, guess my areas not band4 yet.

Same here in Tennessee

LTE Discovery is a real winner of an app. It's what I use as well.
Band 4 XLTE in central Virginia working like a charm.

Correction the cell tower on the other side of town is xlte band4 30Mbps up/10Mbps down

I thought the same thing...but if you follow the moving arrow (ex. turn your phone around in circles like a weirdo...you may eventually change to XLTE band 4 (happened to me after about 60 secs). Until this cool app I just tried bc of this thread...I didn't even realize XLTE was rolled out around here yet.
The XLTE tower must be far away though, bc I only get 1 bar of XLTE and my speed tests suck when locked on.
Speed Test XLTE: 18.69 D | 1.05 U
Speed Test LTE: 22.64 D | 11.68 U
Speed Test WiFi: 127.31 D | 44.21 U (screamer!)

[Q] 4G LTE/HSPA+ on Net10 with Skyrocket

Okay, so heres the deal. I currently have a Skyrocket running CM 10.1 with the UVMC6 radio on Net10 T-Mobile SIM. I my home town of West Bend, WI I get H+ and decent speeds of about 6Mbps down. When I'm in Milwaukee, WI I occasionally get "DC" (Dual Carrier?) with some pretty impressive downspeeds of 20Mbps. I have LTE enabled on my phone but I have never gotten a 4G or LTE indication when in Milwaukee. Which I believe is a T-Mobile LTE area. So my question is if I switch to AT&T SIM on Net10, will I get 4G LTE speeds? It is not specifically indicated on Net10's site that I will, but they sell LTE phones.
Thanks!
It all depends on what net 10 (or whatever) are providing...I doubt those MVNO networks offer LTE from the patent networks at this moment, though I might be mistaken...That 20 mbps you get is HSPA+(DC is HSPA+21 x 2 = HSPA+42)...They sell LTE phones doesn't mean anything, most modern phones nowadays are LTE phones....
However, if you join T-Mobile(T-Mobile proper that is ) and in an area which is one of the official LTE launch cities, you can connect to it using the stock SR radio...

Thanks! I was wondering how I could be getting speeds that fast without LTE. Also, is HSPA+ is rated for 42Mbps then how fast is LTE rated for and is the 20Mbps down that I am getting relatively high for cellular speeds these days?
It depends on tons of factors...HSPA+ at 20mbps is faster than the LTE I get....The only real plus to the LTE is the excellent low ping latency...

You shouldn't trust any people or site more than what your carrier tells you. If I were you I would've just called / emailed net ten and asked them directly :good:

They have tried telling me that my phone is incapable of mms when i was having problems with the stock apn they provided. I wouldnt trust any infomation they tell you.
Those MVNO networks and their customer rep suck big time to be helpful at all....

If the frequencies are the same as Rogers / AT&T then there's no reason for you to not have it. Try doing more troubleshooting.

That's what I figured, I mean it's an ATT phone after-all so if should work with their LTE. But after some troubleshooting I discovered that my phone will not enable LTE for whatever reason. I will go into the settings menu and select GSM/WCDMA/LTE and it just auto switches back to GSM/WCDMA preferred. I am currently running CM 10.1.3 RC2 with UCMC1 radio, so I will try re-flashing that radio to see if it helps, but I don't know what else would cause this.

Try Rogers RUXUMA7 radio, I think that the UCMC1 radio has some kind of lock which prevents you from switching modes.

Rogers radio is working better at keeping lte enabled for me. I am on an older net10 sim and after calling customer service they updated my account and its working although my lte ping times are very similar to hspa... I'm on slim 4.3 build 1

I have the exact same problem. 20 minutes on the phone with Net10 today and they said I would have to contact the manufacture(Samsung) to get LTE. Made no sense.
Go to network operator, scan and pick att from the list. Then try changing the mode to lte/gsm/wcdma and it should stick. Was happening to me too but this fixed it

Sprint lte plus

So i was on sprint chat and i asked the rep of my area had the new sprint lte plus service. She told me yea but for some reason im only getting 4 mbps. Any idea in how to make it faster?
You should get signal check to see what bands are you getting. B25 and b26 are slow usually. B41 and B41x2 is the good stuff. ##33284# on the phone dialer and go to lte engineering. It'll tell you the band, signal width, and primary and secondary download carrier I'd applicable. Good luck. Last speed test was 124mb from a carrier aggregation tower

Is this good or no?
??
1. Simply because your phone shows LTE does not always mean the speed will increase dramatically. What you are seeing is Sprint's 1900mhz band. From those you can expect speeds of 3-6mbps and a high max of 25mbps (You will likely not see this at any point.) Last I remember range was around 2-3 miles on the tower, a GMO site will cut range down a bit. Where I live everyone was excited about 4g however we have the same speeds as you are seeing. No real increase and causing other issues. On the flip side you still may see 800mhz depending on where you live, but it is not a guarantee.
2. Honestly do not go by what Customer Service reps say. Reps would tell my customers we had 4g in Erie Pa for the last year. It was not turned on until March 1st 2016. I have had people scream, kick, yell, throw phones, you name it because customer service told them so. Sitting behind a PC in India or Texas and working in the actual area have distinct differences.
Many smaller areas will likely not go LTE Plus anytime in the near future, larger metro areas will go Plus and others will likely stay in the normal LTE range for now.
Yea i figured that

Got a V20 here in Toronto, with LTE plan, been one firmware update, no LTE even in the downtown core and in 'Settings' 'Mobile Network' there is no LTE options available, only GSM/WCDMA. They say it'll be added in a firmware update though.
And since I got on the Toronto LTE network when my data is over 6GB the network slows to a crawl, Google play apps take an hour to download, then won't install, web pages won't load, streaming music won't work even on lowest settings, it's horrible. :crying:
On my Nexus 6 on regular network Google Play apps took maybe ten minutes to download even when over my bandwidth limit and all of the above worked.
Anyone else having this issue on the LTE network in Toronto? I need to know because if it's the phone I want them to replace it, I only got it last weekend.
I called the store, they say they have issues with the network they are fixing. But I still wonder if it's an issue with the phone.
Edit: Good news!! Was having battery drain trouble, pulled the battery with phone on, waited a minute, put it back in and not only is battery trouble solved send to have fixed my network issues!!

The network isn't actually live yet, so LTE doesn't work. Will probably be a week or two, considering they want to launch it by Christmas.
You can manually connect to any LTE band using the Modem menu by dialing *#546368#*915#
The above is how you can connect internationally.
My phone is unlocked and running on public mobile, so I don't have any issues with LTE.

Freedom Mobile uses the AWS band. I've done the *#546368#*915#, AWS is only option that that works with Freedom Mobile right now. The AWS band currently has no option for LTE, in 'Settings' 'Mobile Network' or in the Hidden Menu. the LTE options in the Hidden Menu don't work, probably because Freedom Mobile uses band 66, which is an AWS band. LTE options on this phone go from bands 1 to 20 , not band 66.
LTE will be enabled on Freedom Mobile phones in a future firmware update.
Edit: And only two Freedom mobile branded phones will do the LTE on band 66, any other phone, like a Pixel XL or anything will only work as 4G, only these two phones support band 66.

No, the network is live, but on V20s only 4G is working, not LTE. A tech from Freedom Mobile confirmed this, that LTE will be enabled in a firmware update before Xmas on the V20.
i hope this doesn't post twice, XDA has been really buggy for me lately.
The only two phones that will support LTE band 66 are the two current Freedom Mobile phones. Any other phone like the Pixel XL do not support the band and will only get 4G.
unless people can confirm that LTE works, I'm not very eager to switch from my sweet "Holiday Miracle" plan to the new LTE plan.
and I have a hunch this is more than likely just a cash grab, I'm sure if I buy the V20 out right and stick my existing "Holiday Miracle" plan, I'll still get LTE with a SIM card change.

Unlocked US U11 support for LTE Band 17 on AT&T?

Hi Folks,
The HTC U11 (US-Unlocked) is on my short list to replace my LG G3. But the HTC Specs page don't list Band 17, which is the main band available at my house on the AT&T network. See the specs page I'm referring to here:
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-u11/http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-u11/
However lots of review sites DO list band 17, such as:

or:
https://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-U11_id10480
So, does it have Band 17 support on ATT? It would be shocking if HTC's own web site had such a bad error, but I can't imagine them leaving off this important band.
TIA

I am pretty sure Band 12 & 17 are interchangeable. So if the phone picks up Band 12 you should be OK.
Well, it's also missing band 30 for AT&T as well. I'm considering this phone, but not without full AT&T network support. I'm wondering with the recent developments with XTC2Clip if we could enable the bands?

This was my concern as well. I have a T-Mobile SIM and AT&T, AT&T is my primary though. For now, I have a Google Pixel XL and S8+ as well as the U11, so if I am going into a congested area, I will just bring one of the other phones and the U11 and swap the SIM's if I run into issues. The 10 has Band 30, no clue why they didn't enable it on the U11. I am hoping we will be able to enable it.
I just checked and mine is using Band 2 (1900) with a good strong 4G LTE
signal. I'm about 18 miles west of Washington DC. This is verified by Network Cell Info app.

My concern is that I live outside of the main city and every ATT device I have reports using band 17 here. Never seen band 12 reported. Worried about connectivity problems ... I will need to look into band 17/12 similarity. I'm ignorant on the issue.

Thanks for the recommendation for the app! I've recently had horrible LTE performance at my home (Rockville, MD) on AT&T and all our phones. This app is awesome at finding which tower I can report that I'm connected to.
Anyway, my phone is reporting that I am connected to band 17 on AT&T. Phone is fine connection-wise. It looks to support 17. My LTE issues are related to the tower since all my phone's are have slow LTE issues.

OnePlus 6 on T-Mobile

The OnePlus 6 has band 71 which is T-Mobile's new band. I read that the future 6T will have a version sold through T-Mobile that is"optimized for TMobile." I'm curious what is meant by optimized for TMobile. Any thoughts?
I'm very interested in this, but I've never owned a one plus device. One question that I have for one plus owners is how fast does one plus update their os to the newest android version? I know you can have P beta on the 6 which is really quick. Has it always been like this? And do you think since this phone will be on tmobile, would that make the update slower then the global version?
All it means is t-mobile will tweak the modem. And as for band 71 unless you are in a rural area don't expect much from it. It won't give you amazing speed it willl allow for better signal in buildings and other areas that cause signal difficulties.
