[Q] Nexus 5 enters bootloop everytime I reboot - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My Nexus 5 enters bootloop on Euphoria logo everytime I reboot. Wiping cache and dalvik solves the problem but I have to wait for apps to "update" after doing this.
It also happens when I flash another ROM by MultiROM and try to boot into it but I haven't tried to wipe cache and dalvik so I don't know if it solves the problem. I uninstall the ROM when I get a bootloop.
I want to know what causes the problem and how to solve this.
Recovery: TWRP MultiROM (latest)
ROM: Euphoria OS 1.0
Kernel: ElementalX 2.10 (SELinux: permissive)
GApps: PA Google Stock Package
Other: MultiROM v31 and Xposed installed.
Thanks in advance.

When you instated the rom did you wipe data and the caches first?

Yes, when I installed my internal ROM (Euphoria). In fact, I installed it after accidentally wiping everything on phone, that's another story.
But I don't wipe anything when I install secondary ROMs. Should I?

[Q] custom ROM boot problem!

Hey everyone,
I'm a new-by to the tech world. I have a "google nexus s" running on ICS 4.0.4, I recently rooted my phone, flashed clockworkmod recovery and tried to install CM9 on my device. After the installation was completed through the clockworkmod, the boot image had showen up and continued to boot throughout the night and never showed up the home screen nor did the custom ROM open itself.
Can anyone give me a lil help as to about what this problem is or the reason why this is happening?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanx!
Did you do a full wipe and cache wipe? My suggestion is to do that and reinstall. You could also try a different ROM.
But wouldnt I loose my phone data if I do that?

i'm having the same problem for every ROM i try on my phone! what to do?
You have a bootloop, this appears because of kernel (boot.img) problems and/or inconsistent cache.
Please wipe/erase cache and Dalvik cache (this can be found in the Advanced menu). Wiping cache partition and Dalvik cache won't erase your personal data.
Make sure the previously flashed CM zip contained a boot.img file. If not, please flash a proper/recommended boot.img (kernel; which is in a zip file) or another rom (with boot.img).
When you flash a new rom over your stock.. first make a backup, then you need to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache..

Got a backup and mods are running cool! Thanx for the help!

[Q] After flash purity rom , it takes forever to first boot up?

Already wipe Factory data, successfully flash purity ROM and gaps. After reboot. It stuck on the logo for 20 mins..... .and now still loading....
I already reboot the phone. Re flash the ROM again twice but the same thing happened
It's it normal? ?
Finally it takes over 50 mins but still in the four color circles.... I reboot and restore backup from cwm. (Lucky I backup before flash!!)
I am running on stock rom with franco r16 kernel.

I did not have a issue flashing latest purity clean install. Maybe a bad download/md5...
A bad download can finish installation also ?

did you wipe data/factory reset before flashing? you have to..
First install was a dirty flash but second time already wiped.
Do I need to wipe dalvik cache also ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Yes if you only did Data...
if you were already on purity than a dirty flash will suffice.
if you were not on purity then you need to perform a full wipe (data, system, dalvik, cache).
EDIT: i had typed full backup above. i obviously meant full wipe.
Thx .
So I need to "wipe data / factory reset" & "wipe dalvik cache " in cwm recovery , then flash new purity rom
Will it erase my files in sd storage ? eg mp3, jpeg movies ?

make a backup. make sure you have a copy of everything you want to save/keep on your computer. full wipe (twrp = data, system, dalvik, cache. cwm = wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, format /system). flash rom and gapps.
when you're coming from the stock firmware or a different rom, you have to perform a full wipe before flashing.
Use all yours methods. (Wipe issues) And still not able to boot up. Not the issue of gapps. Coz I only flash the purity rom, and reboot, but still stuck in the four color circle for over 15 mins.
Finally I decided to give up and return to stock ROM.

Same Issue.
OMG! I though I was the only one facing this issue.
This has happend to me exactly as mentioned on the first post.
I was using purity Rom from 08/01 build & with every update I never had any problem But recently I decided to erase everything & do a factory Image procedure which obviously erases everything.
So after factory image I wanted to return to purity Rom & got stuck on booting logo for ever.
I followed the steps exactly the same as mentioned in above post.

Can't Flash Any Other ROM But CyanogenMod 9.1!

Hi Guys. As my title shows I can't flash any other rom other than the official CyanogenMod 9.1. I do a full wipe of data, cache , and Dalvik Cache before I try a flash and as soon as I reboot I go into a bootloop. Any help would be great.
Boot to bootloader and write down everything from that screen
Boot to recovery and write down what version
Also name ROM you tried

Be sure to flash the boot.img, I currently have KitKatDS and any other rom will black screen on start up without first flashing.
Good Luck, Conner.
If not boot.img, your recovery may be out of date. Have you tried using one of these?

[Q] Bootloop for unknown reason after install CM11 M3 :/

Hi, I'm using Google Nexus 5 from LG Electronics.
Model number in box says it's LG-D821.
Anyway, I'm having trouble with installing CyanogenMod11 on my Nexus 5.
It's not the fist time I installing after-market firmwares in Android device.
I unlocked bootloader via fastboot, installed latest ClockWorkMod non-touch recovery.
Then I installed CyanogenMod11 with ADB sideload, wiped out my data(a factory reset) just for sure.
Also, Installed Google Apps from goo.im/gapps.
I thought it was done, so I rebooted my phone. But it bootloops for 10 minutes.
Checked MD5...nothing is wrong. Downloaded the latest CM11 nightly...bootloop!
What should I do?
I think the order is:
- factory reset
- flash cm
- flash gapps
- reboot
just make sure you have everything backed up (especially EFS backup off the phone - read about it). you could then go back to stock (by flashing factory image), do a full stock boot, copy the CM nighly zip, go back to boot loader flash the recovery of your choice, and follow the cm flashing guide from the internal memory.

I tried wiping data, cache.
Dalvik-cache is included in data, (/data/dalivk-cache).
You don't have to wipe it manually if you wiped data partition.
I'll try installing CM11 using choose zip from sd card.
Thanks!

I know that when u wipe data/factory reset automatically cache and dalvic cache got wiped but most of devs suggest to wipe them manually cause u dont know whether recovery is stable or not ...so i wipe my data-cache-dalvic cache manually and it works with me every time

You have to flash the latest CM firmware in order to switch from Oxygen to AOSP roms since they are based on CM device trees.
