[Q] Waze is showing in my battery drain without using it - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Something strange is happening since yesterday: I didn't use Waze at all, and my GPS is off (I am using Battery saving mode), and still, in settings- battery it shows that Waze is on and GPS is on for many hours and probably draining my battery (that is already in a very bad shape)....
Attached screenshots.
Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?
Thank you

That's because apps can run in the background, and Waze is one of them, plus it's notorious for guzzling battery power. Use Greenify to stop apps like this from running in the background.

Thanks for your reply.
I am on battery saving and the GPS is off. How can it still use my GPS?
My phone has no root, I believe Greenfy is only for rooted phones, isn't it?
Thank you!

Greenify does have a non-root mode, so definitely look into it, it's probably the only battery saving app that actually does what it says it does. Not sure why it says it's using the GPS, maybe it's because it's attempting to. But if Greenify works well in non-root mode it should put an end to it.

[Q] Battery drain and high Android OS usage?

Last week I got a Droid Ultra and am noticing my battery life is pretty bad. I'd heard the Ultras don't get great battery life to begin with but I think something else is going on with my setup. My Android OS usage is always by far the highest, dwarfing the screen percentage. This is my first smartphone so bear with me if this is normal or I'm doing something dumb. My usage seems to be pretty normal by these board's standards, 30min talk, 20-40 texts, wifi on, and couple hours of gaming. (slow week at work!) I have installed Watchdog and it is running on moderate, although I must admit I don't really know how to use it to its full capabilities. I have attached some screenshots below, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Mini with the same issue. Still haven't figured out what it is, even tried a factory reset. So you're not the only one.

Did you guys try disabling the bloatware and turn of Google location?if you're still on 4.2 you can use gsam battery monitor from play store. It gives detailed info on wakelocks and and what's keeping your CPU active.

I have tried to get rid of the bloatware but they don't seem to be removable. I can stop them but they just restart later. I have just turned off locations so we will see if that helps. Will the program you mentioned work with Kit Kat? I am using DU Battery Saver at the moment. Thanks for the advice.

Gsam Won't work on 4.4 unless you're rooted. So you can disable the bloatware easily. Go to app drawer long press on app you want to disable as if you were going to add it to the home screen. Drag it up and drop it on app info. You can disable it there. Some apostle it will ask if you want to revert back to stock. Select ok. Best part is you can't break anything this way! If you want to enable the apps go to settings....apps...and slide all the way over for list of disabled!

Bloatware has been gone for a while. I tried disabling location last night, but still have the same high OS usage today. Just installed GSam- on 4.4 but rooted- I'll post if it comes up with anything helpful.

[Q] Bad battery life :(

I have done the following already
Location services disabled
Google Now disabled
Location reporting disabled
Wifi Scanning disabled
wiped cache
G is still getting drained quick. Screen on time doesnt cross 2.5-3.5 hours . I keep wifi and 3g both on
Install an app like BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock Detector. They will show more information but require root.

the device itself is about 10 day old. so can't pinpoint exactly
Seems to be a strange issue. Maybe you should give it some time. If it is not getting any better you should consider rooting and install a better battery app
You could try a factory reset

Battery drain app might give you some ideas, I'm averaging 0.85% hour with location and google now on
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.WazaBe.android.BatteryDrain
There are threads and a bug report with Motorola regarding this. It seems sometimes once GPS is used the battery continues to drain at 1-3% per hour until you reboot.
It may not be the issue in your case but it looks likely as the drain you see when the phone is not awake looks very similar to the problem.
If it drains in airplane mode and the phone shows as never awake then its the same problem.
For now don't use GPS or if you do then reboot directly after.

If you use your camera, then that might be the problem. Google itself noted a bug in Kit Kat that may run down the battery if you use the camera. Do a search on Google for more details...
btw I found this article stating skype sucks battery, how true is it?? will keep posting any changes after uninstall
@emgee It's showing a drain of 2.8%/hr with wifi on
Prior to this early morning I had turned off data and wifi and I got a battery drop from 100% to 91% in about 7 hrs, is that Ok?

If you are getting the weird drain issue that seems to be related to GPS then maybe best to use battery saving. Depends his bad you need GPS though. So up to you really.
battery drain around 2.5 % /hr . Basically havent been using phone after 82%

[BIG] Battery drain

hi everybody, since one or two weeks i see i have a big battery drain when my phone is "inactive"... how to resolve this please?
Your screenshot doesn't tell us anything. Further debugging can be found using BetterBatteryStats / Gsam / Wakelock Detector, root is required.
A app is preventing your phone from deep sleeping.
The only thing your screenshot does show us is that Play Services is there, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
View that to fix that but theres definitely more to it than Play Services.

I don't understand your question. In actuality, it takes a couple days for your phone to settle in the new kernel if thats what you're asking.
As long as your phone is properly deep sleeping, you shouldn't be worrying.
You can find out by using 1 of the 3 apps I mentioned previously.

i say, is it possible that the battery drain comes from new kernel?(AK)
also thanks for your help dude, and i modified googleplay services as you've told me with my fresh install of cm11...
I have 2 days of battery life almost and still have 20% left. I use this phone heavily and haven't recharged.
I had the same problem where 60% drain overnight.
Now 2 says.
All I did was turn off Facebook Location services.
That's it.
Facebook was draining so much. I have Wifi on, GPS with High Accuracy.
Facebook always drains a significant amount of battery, I prefer using the mobile website but if you must need the app then greenify it.

battery discharge while screen off

I charged it to 100% before going to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, the battery was 82%. I mean srsly wtf ? I have no idea what's going on. This draining issue has started after I've started using oneplus power bank . plz help me. Also there r no wakelocks so that's not an issue.

Post also wakelocks fom GSam Some running app is using up your battery
Here's the app usage screenshot
Here is what I do,
1. Install Battery Monitor Widget from PlayStore.
2. Use the "History" tab in the application to measure the battery drain when idle. The application records the drain every 10 minutes.
I typically have a -6mA drain when the phone is asleep (Google Now running, Location set to "battery saving"). This should give you a good idea on how your phone is behaving.
Gsam sucks, you need to use something like BetterBatteryStats to effectively track down what's causing the wakelock. Get BBS, run the phone normally for a few hours, and then post screenshots of the Other, Partial Wakelocks, and Alarms screens in BBS.

Actually "battery saving" location eats more battery, than Device only since it's using WiFi + Cellular instead of GPS. At least it's my experience, that I have a bit less drain on Device Only, than on Battery saving.
After a week of using these apps.. I've found that there are no wakelocks, still the battery drains overnight.
Will the battery recaliberation help?
Or maybe chaning the rom?
I'm on stock rom as of now. Non rooted.
PLease please suggest me something.

I had issues with battery draining when I left my phone somewhere with low signal strength overnight.
Also I experienced battery drains when my I had a slow internet connection. It may be that some applications are trying to sync, but they are unable to due to slow connection. So they try again and again. (I have this issue with K9-Mail).
I would also suggest to check if Google Location Reporting ist switched on. It was also a battery drainer I had a problem with in the past.
So before you start flashing ROMs, make sure this is not related to signal or synchronization problems.
What is causing the battery drain ???
Here r some screenshots
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
Obviously Google+, it tries to sync something, maybe pictures.

Very limited SOT with OP6 128gb

Hi,
I am running OOS 5.1.11 with xxxNoLimits and radioactive kernel all freshly installed from scratch (my phone was wiped and oem locked then unlocked again). I still only manage to get 2hrs of SOT which is absolutely awful. Please help me
Attached is the battery usage graph.
Kind regard and thanks for any help.

Using Snapchat with 4G, is location, nfc and bluetooth also turned on?
That would explain the bad battery.
Snapchat is a battery hog, maybe also using some facebook services that you allowed location on and GPS is turned on.
I get around 6h SOT on 4G constant, no facebook permissions and not using snapchat.
Hi,
Thank you for the fast response. I have location turned on because of snapmaps so I will turn that off and limit some of Snapchat's permissions. Is there anything else that someone can suggest please it is crucial for me that my phone lasts all day because eventhough I dedicate quite a lot to Snapchat I also need it for word and Samsung internet for at least 2h each day.
Thank you again
Reduce your time on Snapchat and it'll last longer.
I know Snapchat drains my battery but it's the standby that is killing me and I already have optimised the apps and have Greenify but it seems so far that turning off location has helped quite a bit with general SOT so thank you. Also with Snapchat I only used it for 45mins and I know that it drain a lot but it just goes down too fast in general.

You don't generally need Greenify in Oreo and Pie, since they optimise apps pretty nicely on it's own.
Rather turn on advanced optimizations, look at the permission you gave to different apps (those also include the Gapps, they take too much advantage of all the permissions you give to the each app).
Also do check if you have Wifi scanning always on in the advanced wifi settings, that also lessens a battery by a margin.
Face unlock also reduces the SOT of the phone in my practice.
Some of the advices I saw on the forum, and mainly they work for me.
Also, if Gapps are spending loads of battery go to the recovery and wipe cache, let it rebuild cache with a charge or two and see if there are any results.
Thank you, I have cleared the cache and am letting it rebuild. The SoT now actually seems pretty normal just my phone tends to use 2-3% and hour on standby which doesn't seem normal. Thank you for your help though.
@echo246 Bro,
Move to stock. I am also using 128Gb variant and unlocked, wiped and moved back to stock using mega-unbrick tool. I am on OB3 pie and now I am getting 5 hr SOT + 2 days standby time in pure stock. use the stock battery optimizing features. Don't use any 3rd party app since it need to run in the back ground always to get the result. But then the result will be reverse. Also, don't be too curious and open the phone every 1 minute to check weather the battery is draining or not. Let it sleep. Be patient for one or two full battery circle (100% to 1%) get the result. You will get it. I am also in dual SIM always on 4G, location is in "ON" status. No 3rd party apps using for battery saving. Pure stock is always best and most suitable for every phone. as it made exclusively for that phone
I opened "apps" under settings and went through each and every app + system processes after the end of the first battery circle and which ever process or app used more battery, restricted it's back ground battery usage also all the installed apps too. So now no head ache. getting whats app notification even after optimised it. Not using chrome. using samsung beta browser.
Hi,
Thanks this is great thanks. I need Google pay though I tried what the other suggested and 36mins SoT with 3 hours on standby with a normal brightness without power saving mode on is unheard of for me. Thank you so far but is there anyway to make Snapchat more efficient?

I don't know whether you have replied to me or not. Anyway I assume so and replying.
Sorry I am not a snapchat user. I knew that always Facebook and whatsapp consuming more battery since it is running on background. But if you do anything, you won't get proper notifications. Only way for restricting background service is rooting. So forget all those, let the phone run as it is. OP6 is having a learning system how we use apps and accordingly it will distribute the battery. So let it learn from your usage and it will restrict itself.
(Bro, I was also a SOT + standby hunter like you, but now learned to leave everything to phone itself by controlling unwanted eagerness)
Yeah thanks by limiting the WiFi settings on not to scan and turning off location I have amazing standby now and my SoT without even having power saving on is a lot better now. Most of my problems come from Snapchat anyway but they are rewriting the very old and slow app ATM. Thank you
I have analyzed it and it turns out it is just Snapchat while using it 30 mins of using it and I'm down to 77% and I have used nothing else. Hope that snap Inc get the fix in faster coz they started the rewrite of the android code a year ago so hopefully it is done soon.
Some days I get 15hrs SOT without charging for 3 days. It all depends on how heavily your using the device
I also guess it depends on what apps you use because yesterday I had to do lots of research on my phone (I am a student which is why I need good phone battery and also why I use snapchat so much) and without power saving mode on I used 7% battery an hour (on Samsung Internet). My standby is now amazing because greenify just force closes snapchat now whenever my phone is off and when using snapchat away from home I turn location off (snapmaps) and used every optimisation for it possible. This has fixed that problem really well thank you. Yesterday I used snapchat and Samsung Internet and Excel and YouTube quite a lot and I got 5hrs SoT with only using power saving below 50% and with 14hrs standby. This therefore concludes that snapchat is a killer for every single android phone in existence (verified this on my old S6, my friends S6 edge, a S7 edge, a OP 5 and a Huawei P20 Pro). Thank you for all your help and if someone finds a new way to further improve this, then please also share your trick

I don't have anything special enabled. I just turn data off when I'm not using it, I turn location off when it's not needed. This also includes me playing Clash Royale for at least 3 hours a day sometimes more. When you're using SnapChat and your data you're also using your camera and location. GPS is one of the most battery hogging pieces of hardware on your phone. Right now I'm pushing 6 hours of SOT and I haven't charged my phone in over 24 hours and it's looking like I have 13 more hours left on my battery.
