[Q] [Help] [New Device] I need help creating a ROM for my new phone - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone! I am a little new to this, so please take it easy on me. I have actually never created my own Android ROM via the AOSP, but I have opened up Zip files for ROMs other developers have created and have been able to do basics.
I recently bought this device: MPie G7 (gearbest . com/cell-phones/pp_76182.html)
As you can all tell, it is not exactly a very popular phone. So, finding source code for this phone's ROM is basically, impossible. I have also been unable to find the manufactures website address either (anyone have any ideas?).
Anyway, here are my very noob questions. I am obviously planning on hitting base with the AOSP code, but with Lollipop. This poses a new problem to me, because I cannot find the source code, how am I supposed ot create a kernel specific ROM? This thing runs on a MTK, most precisely: MTK6582. It came with Android 4.4.2 (KitKat).
I am also worried about one small other thing, which is the gestures. If my phone is on standby, screen is off, I can do gestures on the off screen to do certain things. Similar to the OnePlus One. But, I am worried I will not be able to do that if I build my own ROM from source.
Anyone have suggestions? Or can possibly help? Thank you very much. All your help is appreciated!

Why don't you list down some of the specifications of your phone and compare them with other mediatek devices!!!
That way if u have the stock ROM of the phone then u can port ROMs from another mediatek device like xolo q700i which has a dedicated thread!!! xolo q700i has many different number of ROMs !!! That way by zip based theming and porting you might be successful in at least creating a ROM for yourself which u can use as a base for different roms!!!

The way I see it if you don't have source or downloadable ROM from your OEM, you have two options:
- like @thecoolster said you could try flashing ROMs from similar devices, and hope you don't end up stuck with a soft brick.
- or, likely your device can be easily rooted (in the settings perhaps?) if it isn't already. Then you can make nandroid to give yourself a stock ROM to cook.
Actually porting your ROM from a developer device tree and AOSP or CM is hard if you are only a hobbyist cook.
Even with a cooked ROM, you'd need a recovery that lets you flash it or you'd have to use SP flashtool and make your own config files for the flash.

[Q] Roms compatible with Sharp FX plus? (ASD1)

Hello XDA,
I have bought a new android device for myself today, the Sharp FX Plus (Model: ADS1) and I've been browsing on the site to find some compatible roms; But no luck. I've used the forums before to successfully root and put a rom on my ASUS tablet with no issues, but this one is a mystery. Is there a thread with what roms are compatible with my phone or has nobody ever really looked into this phone? I've tried to google it with no luck, either. The phone is already rooted, I got that far, I just can't find any roms that are 'confirmed' compatible with it.
Thanks to whoever replies!
P.S. I'm slightly new to the whole custom rom thing - but I do somewhat understand the basics.
metoo!
I too have a sharp fx plus ads1. I have my phone rooted but am having no luck finding a custom rom. I understand it is kind of an entry level android and maybe out of date but it has all the capabilites I need. I also know enough to root my phone and install a rom but not good enough to actually create my own custom rom. Is there anyone that has the time and enjoys doing so that would help out with a custom rom for these phones? I found a page that mentioned updated to 3.2 with a new rom but there was no link for the rom so I'm thinkning it was a fake. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: I posted in Misc Android Development section here, trying to put the information in a centralized area for any potential development on this device.
Recompiled the CM7 Kernel as a test using the device's config.gz, working on getting the CM7 source to go (its being tricky lol). I have a test CyanogenMod 6.1.2 ported from a Z71 that runs, as well as a modded stock 2.2.2 ROM. A "dirty-port" test of a Z71 CM7 rom boots with some mods (no radio, networking, etc..) - so there may be some hope for this lil thing!
Hope that helps

[Completed] Rooted HUAWEI ASCEND Y220-U10 Custom ROM Compatible?

Hey guys I am fairly new to android and really new to this rooting and custom rom thing and I've been doing my research with what a rooted android w/ custom rom could look like and what it could further do.
I was hoping that my rooted phone is compatible with Custom Roms like Cyanogen Mod, AOKP, etc. Unfortunately my phone isn't listed in any listed devices in the well known Custom Rom Sites but I still proceeded with installing Cyanogen Mod since everyone seems to be using it. I don't even know if there are more of these eye candy useful mods that makes the ios look miserably locked up while hoping at least one of these custom rom is compatible with my crappy awesome phone. But upon installation process of Cyanogen Mod WITHOUT awareness that it really isn't compatible, it stated in that page that I could (STILL)use their Custom Rom at my own risk. Beyond that I stopped the installation process in fear of destroying my phone.
I was wondering whether you guys could enlighten me about the compatibility of Huawei Y220-U10 to Custom Roms. I've seen Huawei Y210's on youtube that's using a custom rom but unfortunately ALL of them who's demonstrating their phones are speaking in Spanish. I also installed ROM Installer but I can't seem to see 'FEATURED'? Maybe because it's the free version?
Now I am willing to take the risk, starting from the bottom meaning derooting my phone, wiping it clean, rerooting it and flashing that Custom Rom but I'm seeking advice from much more experienced users because if you guys tell me that it is a BIG NO NO I guess I'll just have to stick with the Go Launcher and wait until I get a much better, stronger, faster android smartphone which has a friendlier compatibility to everything android. And how come I can't access facebook nor yahoo from any web browser in my phone? is it a virus? Please clarify my theories.
Much Regards, Jom
P.S. Phone is running at 2.3.6 and rooted with Kingo Android ROOT
Hello @Jom Apa Welcome to Android / XDA!
"BIG NO NO!" You can't flash ROMs not made for your device because of the underlying hardware incompatibilities. You might completely kill your phone.
Give me a few minutes while I search for ROMs you can use
UPDATE: Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any custom firmware for your device nor Github entries for the chipset used. Seems you'll either have to stick with stock or create your own custom ROMs there are a lot of support here on XDA, Let the learning begin!
Cheers!

[Q] verykool Spark II s5015 ROM Question

Hello,
With the recent Android M coming out soon, I wanted to try to find a custom ROM to flash onto my Android Phone. It's the VeryKool Sparks II s5015. However, being as it's not very much supported, I'm having issues finding ROM's etc for Lollipop custom builds. Does anyone have any idea's where I could get one? Or what? CM 12 doesn't appear to be compatible.
hey bro, your phone it's compatible but there are no developers working on your specific device, thats the reason for that you can't find a ROM... Whatever your phone have MTK Chipset, install cpu-z app from playstore and see what model is. example mine device is mt6572. when you sure know your device chipset can download custom rom from here: http://_www.mtkroms.com_/ and here: http://_www.mtkcrom.blogspot.com_/ (delete the "_" on URL) obviously you have to ported first for your device, but don't worry, there are tutorials on the pages.
finally sorry for my bad english and... do all things at your own risk, if i helped you click the "thanks" button

[Completed] Creating a Custom Rom for a Prestigio Tablet

HELP
Ive searched high and low for a rom for Prestigio PMP 5588 HD Multipad and it seams no one has made a rom for this device I found a few guide on how to make custom roms but they are a for popular models and they mostly start with a ported rom
I don't have that option as no one has developed a rom for my device yet so I was going have a crack at making my own rom for this device they guide seam quite easy and I can code so should be to hard to get project started
My aim is to build a rom with best android build I can for this device be nice if I can build rom out of a version of nougat to use with this device but I cannot find any guides on starting a project like this.
Ive installed android kitchen and note++ to work on the project
Now I know I need to backup my current rom and kernel before I start but after that I not sure weather I can get copy of the latest version of Cyanogenmod then either backup my device drivers and then edit the Cyanogenmod rom with my drivers to get started and then do some advanced editing as project progresses or do I need to take a copy of my backup rom and edit this with files from Cyanogenmod rom to create my own rom and then go massive bug fixing mission anyone that can point me in right direction be helping me and loads of other that have this device that would like to upgrade being stuck on 4.2.1 sucks and cannot run most app on this version of android
Thanks in advance
Hi !
As you have noticed , there are several threads on xda for building custom roms . One of them https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195858
Try to ask there , we cannot actually assist you directly on this matter , the community there is much wider
Good luck !

Would there be any hope for getting Android Jellybean or KitKat on this old Samsung from 2012? (Samsung Galaxy Discover)

I have a Samsung Galaxy Discover, it's my old childhood phone and for the memories, I want to make it as usable as I can now, however I basically can't do anything internet related with it as it runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich (which I will be shortening to ICS for the rest of this post), ICS has certificate issues which you can't do anything about, to use anything internet related you need Jellybean (also has certificate issues but not as bad as ICS and they can be updated unlike ICS) or KitKat (has all modern certificates), however the Discover only has ICS ROMs, there was a Jellybean ROM at one point however the link is dead and I can't find an archive of it. I know it's possible to get Jellybean and KitKat on the Discover because the Galaxy Ace Plus has both Jellybean and KitKat ROMs, and the Ace Plus and Discover are basically the same phone, and I did spend a bit of time trying to port a CyanogenMod 10 ROM for the Ace Plus to the Discover, but I'm just too inexperienced with ROM porting and making ROMs and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, so after I ran into an issue I couldn't find any details about on Google, I just gave up and went back to ICS.
If anyone could explain how to make a ROM (whether it be making my own ROM from scratch or porting an already existing ROM like CyanogenMod) for the Discover or even make a ROM for me, I'd be super thankful, preferably I want Jellybean as this is a super cheap phone and I don't think KitKat will run very well on it, however if KitKat is easier to get running I'll do KitKat. The exact model number of the phone is SGH-S730M. I have access to computers running macOS, Windows and Linux. (figured that'll be helpful to know if I need to make a ROM)
How do I create a custom rom?
Hey! So I was so happy with my phone, a Huawei mate 20 lite, that has been obsolete cuz it's old. I unlocked it's bootloader, and I will install TWRP for it, but there's no custom roms like pixel experience or Lineageos for it, so I decided to...

That page doesn't help. The first guide linked there requires you getting the device tree, vendor, and kernel from GitHub, and since the Discover is an obscure device, I highly doubt any of that stuff is on GitHub, I'd have to pull it from a pre-existing ICS ROM or something (but idk how to do that), and on the second page linked there I don't see any sort of guide.
