App icons disappeared after root - General Topics

I opted to keep this in the general forum since OnePlus had no answer. I rooted a week ago and noticed after some (and I am not sure how many) apps disappeared from my phone, like completely. They don't even show in the app drawer. But if I go to the play store it shows it is installed and I can open it from there. The 2 that I know of for certain were Pocket Expense which I have since uninstalled since it was buggy and SplashID. I tried doing a backup in Titanium Backup then deleting the app and reinstalling and it still does not show up.
Ideas?

Market Apps not re-installing after flash or when new

Hello,
For some reason with my Thunderbolt the apps in the market are not being backed up and re-installing themselves. On my Droid X whenever I would flash a ROM and go into market, all the previously installed apps would be queued up and re-install themselves. So naturally when I got the TB I was expecting this to happen, which it didn’t. I went ahead and re-installed all the apps for a couple days before I had a chance to go through the somewhat lengthy process of rooting. Well, got around to rooting last night and hoping that the apps would back themselves up now thinking maybe they would only re-install on the same device I flashed a ROM with no luck. Anyone have an idea of what could preventing this from happening on this phone?
When I look on market.android.com it shows the apps installed so I can’t re-install them from the comfort of the web. Any ideas?
Thanks
I had this problem before too. What I did was go into Settings - Applications, and find "Market". I then cleared the cache and the data. I cycled power to the phone and the next time I went into the Market app it added all my previously purchased and free apps correctly. Hope this helps!

I dont think the market does an automatic backup. And the history it keeps is sketchy at best, it looses alot of apps i had installed. Appbrain would be a better option, it doesnt autoreinstall, but will let you do batch installs. Even better would be a true backup app like Titanium backup, it backs up your apps and assosiated data. But with your current setup, you can tell the market to install the app again, it will work, even if it thinks it is already installed.

android market won't show my purchased installed apps

a few days ago I was using Titanium Backup to unlink my apps from the android market that I had gotten from other markets so that the market would stop trying to install updates for those apps and when I did this I looked at MY APPS in the market it is now only showing a 2 boxes. 1 reads browse apps and the other browse games. It also says apps and games owned by this account will appear here. Iv'e tried using the market Dr. on TB but it won't fix it. I also tried to force close the market and wiping the data and uninstalling any market updates. I'm hoping I don't have to reset the phone completely. I've also tried fixing the permissions and rebooting into recovery. Any help would be much appreciated. Samsung Galaxy s 4g
I had this issue once before. I fixed it by logging on to market.android.com and when I did I noticed that my apps were missing from there to. I then logged off of the website and then back on and like magic all of my apps were back. I wont garuntee this as a fix but it did work for me

im having the EXACT same problem... and i even tried a full wipe and fresh install of my rom, and all 200+ apps fresh from market to restore ANY broken market links. still no dice. im on sprints epic 4g touch, found this post on google looking for info lol
i use rom toolbox pro.. no problems here
I used Titanium Backup to uninstall something called the "Market Feedback Agent". I then wiped my cache and dalvik cache and rebooted my phone. My apps showed up in the market after I did this.

EDIT
Just download this App Market Fixer by Kstudio from Android Market.
Use it to scan for offending Apps, Note that it requires active data connection. What it basically does is compare your Apps database with the online Android Market Database and then single out the offending Apps. Presently, the only solution it offers is to uninstall the Apps from your Phone which for me is unacceptable because most of them are Samsung Core System Apps like Videos, Galllery etc, you don't wanna lose your System Apps.
When the scan finish just take note of the offending Apps, it would help to write them down. Do not use their Fix tool because it will delete the Apps from your Phone or if you use REMOVE MARKET LINKS ONLY those Apps will give you FORCE CLOSE afterwards. The best option is go to Titanium Backup --> Batch --> Detach User & System Apps from Market --> Deselect all --> NOW SELECT ONLY THE OFFENDING APPS --> Run the Batch Operation --> Reboot.
After this go back to Android Market and all your Apps will be there. If It didn't work the first time, redo the whole process, maybe you missed one App.
This has 99.9% success and I believe it will work for you.
ADDITION
For those of us that Schedule Backups with TB, you have to do some tweaks to your Preferences if not; after such backups, the whole problem will come back again. This is all you have to do:
Go to Preferences --> Deselect MARKET LINK (When backing up an app, save its Market Link. Requires SQlite).
Be aware that this might happen again if you upgrade ROM or restore whole system with TB Backup, but with such Tool at hand, all it takes is less 3 minutes to fix.
Hope this is helpful
Thank you! I'll not sure exactly what I did that fixed it, but somewhere between using Market Fixer and uninstall/re-installing some apps it working again.
Note to self: stop playing with Market Doctor in TB for no good reason.
Hi
Excuse me for being somehow off topic, I'd want the opposite.
I have a few apps (Youtube & windows theme for Go launcher for example) that I hate their updates and I'd like them to not appear on market update list.
If someond knows how to do this, please PM or send a link.
I searched and couldn't find anything. 10x.

In Titanium Backup - Market Doctor will break market links.
Any free solution?

[Resolved] WOW!!! Backup and Restore!

I am just amazed. IF this has been available to samsung users or if it's a ICS function, I'm still blown away but it.
If you are having problems, and want to do the Windows thing of restarting from scratch, take advantage of the included Outstanding Backup and Restore.
I had been suggested doing the backup and restore by Samsung for my wifi connect/reconnect issue with "N" (no, it doesn't seem to have resolved it) but I was hesitant to go through the PAIN of reinstallation of all my apps (about70).
I decided to bite the bullet and reset the phone. I rooted too so I expected the worse. Well, let me say, that as I am writing this, the phone is automatically reinstalling my apps after signing in to Google and my wifi network. This restored my entire set of apps in only a few minutes (I have 50 mb internet and 5Ghz N, so the phone does my full bandwidth).
It's still rooted. A new Android ID was issued (TI offered to restore the old one). The About Phone/Status page still says Modified at the bottom.
Data from apps like my FlightTracker have no information so that will have to be re-entered. Passwords for apps and sync (or specific sync settings like NOT syncing GDrive or Gmail,) are not restated.
If for whatever reason you decide to do this, don't hesitate.
google
it's not an ICS specific function but more of a google play (formerly google market) function.
Google play knows which apps you have installed from them and on which device.
When you reset your device and input your google credentials, it will propose you to put back the previously installed apps.
Just surf to
play . google . com
log on and it will reflect what you already have installed, it also knows what you have paid for (you can install a paid app on multiple devices and only have to pay once) and at the bottom in "my orders and settings" you can see the devices you own and give them a name.
you can also review and install applications remotely from there. Click on install and your device will start downloading and installing it.
Well coming from a GB device I never saw/realized that the market can install all the apps automatically.

Since I rooted my phone I wiped and installed it countless times with roms (cyanogen mostly) from android 2.2 to the current 4.0.4
I always check that automatic backup is enabled in the relevant setting but I never seen it working.. I thought it was supposed to restore apps, wifi passwords and so on when, after a wipe, I configure my Google account, but no luck, it never worked for me.

apps getting uninstalled randomly, what is the root cause?

I share same account on phone & tablet & both my devices are listed on google play as supported but on both the devices I have noticed that apps are not found they get uninstalled randomly, it could be any of the app, today MX player was removed from tablet & whatsapp missing from my phone.
When I reinstall these apps all the data & setting remain intact so I cant figure out if the apps indeed are being uninstalled or they stop showing in app drawer, shortcuts don't work either nor they show under installed apps in play store.
Both tablet & phone are rooted & using stock roms on both if that matters. Also some apps are moved to SD card on both devices to save space on internal sd partition (no SD card swaped)
Found this another thread reporting the same issue but in that case its about paid apps but in my case its all about free apps doing the same disappearing act.

In my case 2 devices are using different launchers both launchers cant be doing the same goof up, could they? As per suggestion I restarted AWD launcher on tablet but the shortcut to apps don't work giving error the app is not installed, neither the app is visible in app drawer.
Goof up seems to be related to google play store in my opinion but not sure.

[Q] Apps borked after updating from the play store

Since the upgrade to KK, across several Roms, I have run into an issue when an app updates. I am currently running C-Rom, but it has also happened to me on Pacman, Resurrection, Beanstalk, and a few others. When certain apps update, they no longer work. The icon is removed from the app drawer and replaced with the com.developername.apk path where the app data is usually stored and the app fc on opening. It has happened to different apps on different ROMs, but the usual culprits are IPcam Viewer, Tasked, and Macronos. (I don't use Macronos anymore since Sonos came out with their own app). I have uninstalled the app, both thru the app manager and using root explorer. When using root explorer, the apk is nowhere to be found. The only way I've found to resolve this, is to use TiBu to restore an older, working version.
TL: DR - my apps are screwing up and not installing correctly when they update. Can't figure out why.
Anyone have any ideas?
