Nothing happens, it doesnt boot into recovery but it can turn on and function well with the OTA Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update as well as boot into Download mode. I have rooted it before when It was still ICS 4.0.4 and I guess I didnt unroot it correctly.
A couple of days ago, I heard about the Jelly Bean update, which I wanted, so I used Kies to update. I connected my phone while in Download mode and Kies did its thing and my phone was unrooted when it booted up and had Jelly Bean. It worked perfectly, but it couldnt boot into recovery mode. I dont think it's a huge problem to not boot into recovery, but to me, I feel safer having it.
Is there a way to fix this using just Samsung Kies? Is there a way to flash that recovery or something using Odin? If so, where can I find it and how do I do it?
Thanks in advance!

Whenever I hold the Volume-Up + Home + Power, it turns on then it says on the top left corner a small blue colored message saying "RECOVERY BOOTING..." and then it goes to the "Galaxy S Relay from T-Mobile" screen and then black screen. My phone is currently NOT rooted. I attempted to root it when I first got it and almost bricked it so when I got it back to working I just left it. I've had my phone over a year and have recently over the past few months had issues with the charging port and batteries even holding a charge. Bought extended life slim batteries and a charger due to that issue. Then just yesterday I was using facebook on my phone and it randomly rebooted and wouldn't stop boot looping. Only way I've stopped it thus far is to take out the battery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds as though your recovery image might be corrupted. I'd utilize ODIN or heimdall to reflash recovery using download mode and see if that fixes your issue. If you were rooted, and feeling adventurous, you could even do so from within the OS. One more question though: Are you releasing the buttons when you see the samsung boot logo with 'RECOVERY BOOTING....' in the corner? If you do not, then the phone will simply reboot again into the OS. Always let the buttons go once the recovery boot process begins.

Haven't had much of a chance to try due to distractions plus work along with internet issues at home and a friend's house. I will try ODIN. What is heimdall? I've never heard of that.
Yes, each time I try to reboot into recovery I am releasing the buttons as soon as I see the samsung boot logo with 'RECOVERY BOOTING....'
As always Magamo, Thanks for your help

Heimdal is an open source program that implements the ODIN functions. I usually use it as a command line tool, but it does have GUI front ends.

Magamo, I've downloaded Odin 3. 10..6. Not exactly sure what to do now cos I just tried to put my phone into download mode and it boot loops again! So if I can't go into recovery mode or download mode, what can I do? My phone is not rooted and I don't want to root it. Ideally I want to be able to at least copy some of my text messages before rooting it but how can i do anything if I can't get it to go into recovery mode, download mode, or even turn on without boot looping?!
I dont even know what made it randomly one day decide to shut itself off and boot loop.
Any ideas you (or anyone else has) would be very much appreciated!
-Rita-
Sorry i guess i cant help u on this one. But good luck m8!

My phone will not turn on. I was doing a factory reset, but it seemed to freeze, so I did a battery pull. Now my phone is either stuck on the samsung logo, or an empty batter symbol with a white circle. Please help.
Only thing I can think of is to try to get into download mode (remove the battery, plug the phone into a computer, and press the volume down button). If you can get to download mode, you should be able to flash a stock rom via Odin (instructions for this can be found in multiple threads on this forum.

Yes, do that.
download odin and the stock 2.1 build. then place your phone in download mode. flash the rom the way the instructions tell you too. then walk into your local uscell and complain til they give you a new mesmerize. that should solve all your probs
Got mine to reboot
i got my samsung mesmerize to turn on by pressing in the startup button on the right AND the volume control button on the left (up, don't know if that matters) at the same time for a few seconds (at least 5) and eventually the SAMSUNG logo appeared and it is now working fine.
I hope this helps anyone who has the same issue!
lately EVERY time i reboot my phone (running ics build 2, 3 and 4, stock kernel) it gets stuck on samsung logo.. somehow my phone will only boot into the frigging cm7 recovery which as im sure youre all aware is rather useless to fix any problems im having in ics and leaves me unable to flash, backup, or restore anything. it's quite frustrating and i have no idea how to fix it but by going back to bml, re-partitioning, then odin ei20 modem, cm7 fixed recovery, then flash back to ics but doin this every reboot it getting very tedious..
ive read about recovery loops, but the fix doesnt work for me as i cant mount the ICS /system partition in cm7 recovery...and ive been all over trying a zillion things to get it to work and havent pulled dmesg or logcat but if someone thinks it would be useful ..i wish i knew why EVERYTHING is great, then BANG, reboot and it's FML city.

If you came from Froyo, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16762954
Hope this helps.

sounds like the bootloader.
flash a froyo rom, then try to odin. AFTER you have tried installing the drivers linked in the previous post. That guide should work.
Did you get this fixed?

Go into the control panel & uninstall the USB drivers & kies mini if installed. Then reinstall Kies Mini & use the menu option to reinstall the drivers. See if that helps.

Could it be the cable you're using? I've seen quite a few posts here about people using cables that were bad and/or too long and it prevented the phone from being recognized via USB. People could charge the phone but not use ODIN or anything.
Do you have a different cable to try?
ive tried two different cables, i could try another one thats a good idea. somehow i think maybe i messed up the mounting, i thought i followed the instructions to a t. UMMU .. i will try a few different cables when i get home tonight... actually just tried at work no dice, my system storage is also only showing 126 MB

I thought the phone did not boot up. How are you seeing how much storage you have left?
I'm curious to know what state it really is in. There has to be a way to get it going for you.
the phone boots fine during the boot after the initial boot screen where it says galaxy s 4g it goes into rainbow patterns. so every time i try to get into recovery when I am in the recovery menu (or into where the recovery menu should be) i cannot see anything because of the rainbow screen. I was told maybe i have the wrong boot loaders installed.
because i cant see recovery and I cannot get my computer to see my phone I have no idea what to do get my phone back to stock to start over.
This is why I am stuck.
If i could get my computer to see the phone I think i could odin back to stock, using the dongle is half the battle as i can get in recovery

Pardon me if I'm not getting it....but yo said it boots fine but then you get the rainbow screen when the Galaxy S 4G logo should appear? The rainbow screen is definitely a boot loader issue. I'm just trying to figure out a way to either get you into a download mode where the phone is recognized or into recovery so you can get it going again.
How are you getting it into recovery mode?
I'm wondering if Heimdall would be your best bet? You could try to download it from here, extract it somewhere, then go into the Drivers folder and double-click zadig.exe. Select Options from the menu bar, select List All Devics then select Samsung Android Composite (something along those lines), then click Install Driver. This is a different driver than the one that comes from Samsung.
After that, maybe try Bhundven's [Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011]. Select whichever one-click file you want to go for and follow his instructions. They all have the GB bootloaders in them, so you should be set.
Usually both volume buttons power button for a few secs or through rom mgr

From what I've read ROM Manager is a no-no on this model phone. I dunno why, but I've read that on a few threads.
Let me know if you're able to install Heimdall and the open source drivers that come with it. If you can, you can get into download mode, and it sees the phone, then you can try the One Clicks or even just flash the boot loaders from a ROM that contains them.
I will try when i go home tonight.
just an fyi every time i plug in my phone, it does not show up on my computer. i have tried using debugging mode and mass storage and neither work.

Ugh...well let's hope for the best. I would uninstall any drivers and programs like Kies you have installed first, then install the Heimdall drivers. Let me know how it goes.
so i uninstalled drivers executed Heimdall and put phone in download mode with dongle. the computer still did not detect phone, however i got my replacement SGS4 today put it in download mode and it was detected immediately.
I dont know what else I can do do get the phone detected or fix the boot loader to get into recovery

Maybe I'm missing something. How are you switching between debugging mode and mass media if you can't boot the phone?
The way I understood the problem, you would get to the SgS logo screen during boot, then the whole screen would be covered by the rainbow effect, which renders the screen unreadable, nd thus the phone unusable. Is that correct, or is the problem different?
the rainbow screen happens right after the SGS Logo then fades out once the lock screen comes on.
it also shows up once I try to get into recovery but from that point I cannot see anything and have to reboot.
Phone works after fully booted
both debugging and mass storage have been tried
You need to flash the "GINGERBREAD" bootloaders. This issue is 100% caused by froyo bootloaders. Once you obtain the GINGERBREAD bootloader, there is a 100% chance that the issue will go away. Flash THISTHIS/download. in heimdall. Get into recovery, then flash a rom of your choice.
Hi,friends
I just bought a used Rogers Infuse 4G I977 from ebay.
It was a rooted phone with Stock 2.3.3 UXKG3 installed
and there's problem with it:
1) It cannot boot into CMW/e3 recovery mode, when i press 3buttons(power +/-) or hold +/- and plug in USB cable, the screen will turn on with 4 lights on(home/search etc.) but nothing else shows on the screen,if i press the power button again it will reboot but reboot into another black screen with some sound, sounded like turning the phone in normal way but nothing shows.
2.When I turn on the phone normally, there is NO Samsung/Rogers Logo,it only has the booting sound and 1-2mins after I will have to press the power button myself to open up the lockscreen and use the phone
What I did:
Re-flash the root UXKG3 via Odin
UNROOT my phone
Install CWM via Rom Manager
Install e3 and use the file explorer to put update into CMW
Lots more,i tired EVERYTHING in the forum
Goal :
Now i don't care i can install a ROM/Root or not.
I Just Want To Have My Samsung/Rogers Logo backed on when i Turn on my phone, just wanted to look like a normal phone.
Please help me!This will be a gift for my friend and I wanted to look really nice and stock give it to him,I've been reading on Infuse 4G forum for 13Hours striaght and i have tried everything i could.
I own Galaxy S 2 with lots of root/custom experience so i'm not a noob and i know what i am doing but i really can't fix this.
I can provide video of the loading screen and everything etc.
Odin or heimdall back to stock,
Run the program
Place pone in download mode
Do what it says on the program/on the op of the program
Download mode: pull battery, put battery back in, hold volume up and down, then plug in USB cord.
You have to pull the battery or it won't work...at least its never worked for me without pulling the battery...
Edit: just saw you have already tried Odin...maybe try a different Odin?
Actually when I first flashed cm9 I had no Samsung logo on boot, I'd get a rainbow screen then it would go into the cm9 boot animation...I flashed gingerbread boot loaders through heimdall and then reflashed cm9 and the rainbow screen was replaced with a galaxy s logo with cm9 logo under that
So maybe you don't have the right bootloaders...Odin does not replace bootloaders-at least as far as I know it doesn't. So try heimdall...however be aware that flashing boot loaders is the easiest way to actually brick this phone...so do it at your own risk...I'm not saying flashing new boot loaders will fix your problem...I'm just saying it worked for me on a different but similar situation.

Alright i will try helium tonight, thanks.
My phone has been all screwy for months. I recently given up on it and bought a new phone but it irritates me that I still cannot fix this old phone.
After attempting to flash a new rom onto my phone everything went wrong. When I attempted to reboot the phone the phone showed the SAMSUNG screen then goes to CWD for recovery. I cannot fix this at all. Eventually I decided to run GTG's Ultimiate Unbrick thinking that Odin3 would fix my situation. It continuted to give me FAIL with every attempt. Now, the phone won't even show the SAMSUNG screen or the recovery screen. It just stays black... What can I do? Junk it? Is it permanently broke.. This is so upsetting.
Are you still able to access download mode? If so then i would try Heimdall this time using THIS flash file. Flash it once, let it reboot, then shutdown and go to download mode again. Flash once more with the "flash bootloaders" box checked. Has always worked for me when i screw something up due to not paying attention.
If you cannot access download mode WHAT-SO-EVER, i'm afraid i am unable to help.
Good luck

Does it connect and disconnect by itself? If it does then sounds like a hardware issue. If you can get it to connect to your computer open the JAR flash file which will open Heimdall after a few seconds (10-20). Once it's open press the Vol-Up button on your phone and see if Heimdall can see it (should say "Connected" in green at the bottom right).
Give it to me lol I'll fix it

So I had the same issue it sounds like, tried to flash PhilZ recovery over Odin seemed fine I put the PhilZ file and superSU files on the device to continue through and now I am unable to get into recovery mode only download and my tab does not turn off, it sits on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 logo unless I hold the power then it turns off and then right back on again.
Any ideas? I cant seem to find anything

Just the boot screen, not even past the first logo
You must have missed a step. Try the process again using this video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO3y7JCqfc8
Follow the directions step by step.
This is actually the video I was using, but, I have tried again and I cant get it to boot into PhilZ. I am able to get to download screen so I have tried a different version as well, but after it gets the pass it disconnects to reboot and then never boots or reconnects until I put it into download and reconnect the device.
Weird. This is the way I installed Phil's touch. I had no issue with it. Make sure your usb is disconnected from your device before rebooting. On the p5113, to get into recovery, hold down power + volume-down, when you see first Samsung big-screen, release power button and continue to hold the volume-down button.

That's what I've been doing and it does nothing. Device sits at that Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 screen. The only way I can turn it off is to plug it into my computer and restart it until the battery symbol comes up and disconnect. That's it.
Not sure what route to take now, but, it still connects to odin and after flashing the PDA to it, it disconnects.
Ok. Tell me. Are you rooted? Can you boot up to your home screen at all? You must be rooted in order to flash a custom recovery.

Rooted, running CM 10.2 [4.3.1]
I didn't even get to that step, I was flashing philz recovery in order to backup before rooting. I was unable to boot anything except the download mode, no recovery mode to factory reset and not able to boot the actual system at all.
I ended up trying CWM and flashing that to the device through Odin and was able to open recovery mode after that and have since flashed Cyanogen to the device and have everything good to go.
I dont know what was wrong with philz, but, I tried multiple downloads of the version we need and none did anything.
Problem is solved, but, there's got to be something wrong with philz recovery for this device or my tablet just doesn't like philz.
Thanks for your suggestions though I appreciate your efforts!
No problem. I'm glad you found a way to fix it!
