Mine Sprint S6 does, need to use an app like Next Radio https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio&hl=en and you have to used wired earphones for the antenna. it works pretty good, depends on how good a FM signal you get in your area for any of the stations. I live in a small town, so there are only 2 or 3 FM stations I can pickup.
That app is not avaiable in the other countries.... can you share it in apk format ??? Thanks!
Tried next radio, it says my device is not supported. It seems it is a sprint exclusive feature. Hope there is an fm radio fm chip in our s6s too and is a matter of software to enable it.
Is it possible that sprint's S6 is fundamentaly different from european one? I have tried the app, but force closes.
Next radio app claims that the fm radio is locked by the carrier and sprint unlocks their fm radios, Idk if this is true or not.
RADIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tune-In cannot work for me, am in Africa and internet is terrible here!!!!!!!
funny thing is that my s3 mini has an FM radio ...
can someone pull the apk with this phone
Please Please Please Please Pleeeeeease
(tweak with a recorder , it would be nice )

hi, for those who got the ATT Captivative, do you konw if the phoen comes with FM radio? I searched online and it looks like the phone may not come with it.
Doesn't have the software for it, may or may not have the actual hardware.
Doesn't come with FM. The hardware *may* be there and if so could possibly be enabled with a custom kernel but no one knows for sure yet.
The hardware is there, theres just no drivers in the shipped kernel, but yes theres also the chance that att decided to request samsung to remove the fm radio chipset, so that people would use att radio services etc.
Sick and tire of AT&T. Why disable the fm radio?
ATT wants to make more money off of their subscribers by making them use the ATT app which causes the user to use data (pay for a larger data plan) and pay a monthly subscription fee.
The Euro version comes with an FMRadio.apk I installed it and the GUI works fine (even detected that I didn't have my headphones plugged in) but, threw an error that the app couldn't start the radio.
So, my conclusion would be that we just need to get the drivers from the Euro version of the Galaxy S and put them into a custom kernal and install the FMRadio.apk = we would have a working FM radio.
Should be very possible and very likely to happen!
If you want it to just listen to the Radio, try IHeartRadio it has an extremely large collection of Radio stations across the nation streamed to the phone.
Once again: that uses data. I think we were hoping for a REAL WORKING FM RADIO. This should be possible.
thanks for the feedback guys. I really don't understand why ATT always want to cripple these devices.
Hopefully someone will get it to work.
Can't blame AT&T solely here. It looks like none of the US spec Galaxy S phones will have FM radio.

I heart radio only has clear channel stations. So if the station you want to listen isnt owned by clear channel, you need to find an alternative.
I use RadioTime on my squeezebox for both local and non-local radio, and it appears they have a (pay) app.

what is the outcome of this investigation?
I use this portal http://www.thestreamcenter.com/ and streamfurious http://www.streamfurious.com/ but I agree! We need to get our FM radio hardware working. I did this with my Fuze and Tilt II thanks to xda.

Doesn't make sense, since the HTC Aria has an FM radio. My guess would be Samsung didn't take the time to get FCC clearance for the FM radio.
Why did this thread fall to page 3... It's still a problem and I want to know if it has an FM radio or not.
Dont get me wrong, all cell companies are evil. but dont blame them for something that the hardware manufacturers are obviously doing.
im in canada with rogers with the i896 version of the i897 model, NO FM.
not even the international version of the i897 model has working FM.
dont blame att.... for this.
Hi,
Can anyone help to share where to download the firmware FM RADIO for SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE II LTE, N7105???IS The phone missing the fm radio tech suppported???????
thanks..
tehnoth or maior 5 comptroller
I cant find it too. I also download a app on the market and it dont work. Maybe this version do not have Fm Radio in it =| .
Call Samsung
Seriously, I did not know there were sooo many different variants of the Note II (LTE). After reading on a couple of websites that it had FM Radio I went ahead to purchase the LTE version and only to find out later that it did not have FM Radio enabled in the Singapore version.
Some say there is no hardware built within the phone to support FM Radio but when I called Samsung Singapore helpline (1800-7267864) and voiced my disappointment, over the local market being deprived of a very basic function;
1) First I was told, no FM Radio and to download Radio Application from Google Play the streaming kind that will incur data charges.
2) When I said, why is that overseas LTE model has inbuilt FM Receiver then I was told that Samsung was aware of this issue and that they were working on this situation and perhaps there will be an update soon.
So in other words, it may just have something to do with the ROM and or Kernal and the hardware is probably already there but disabled. I suggest, those who feel there is a strong need for this function (FM Radio) to call them up and constantly, get an update otherwise, Samsung won't really know that there is a serious market for this function. Just my opinion.
Hi there,
I was also "cheated" by thinking there is FM radio in the Singapore Note version! Had called Samsung before but there is no satisfactory answer from them.

My conclusion is that nowadays it is quite rare or virtually unheard of to get a dirt cheap plan with unlimited or 10GB data with any of the local telcos. Those good old days are gone. The 3 major telco here have limited the data to 2GB-4GB for basic plans. Question is how else can these telcos make money? Answer, via these data consuming apps that some of us have been suggested to use in lieu of the actual hardware based FM receiver.
True, some may not see the need of having a FM receiver on their phones but then there are those of us who love listening to live music while on the go. Some may even suggest getting an additional gadget for that very purpose but the last thing we want to do is carry multiple gadgets for multiple reasons. I love the phone but it would had sweeten the deal more if they had enabled the FM receiver on our local handsets. Besides, why the double standards? Same model Retail set you get FM receiver and Telco set without. A big boo to Samsung Singapore and the local telcos.
I received my N7105 today, bought off Kogan.com.au.
I only have a 500MB/month data plan, and my employer's internet connection isn't great, so I thought I'd try its FM radio...
and there was no app.
so I ran the Samsung apps apps to see if I had to download it. No sign.
googled and found this thread... it seems hard to believe there's no FM radio!
I would still have bought the N7105 but I would like to have known of the radio's absence to avoid the tinge of disappointment.
Add another surprised user to the list... I just bought my GT-7105T (Telstra Australian version) a few days ago and went looking for the FM radio just now... not there! I had no idea there were so many variants, perhaps I would have tried to find out which grey imports would have worked on Aus 4G networks as the Korean versions get a DMB tuner (for digital radio and TV!)
If anyone is interested in checking out the different variants before purchasing, there's a handy table on the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_II#Table_of_variants
In the meantime I will contact Samsung as well, at least to try and find out if FM hardware is missing, or maybe it will come with a software update or some software mods/hacking.

I believe it has to do with different models (varriants) as mugget points out on the wiki thread, and not retail vs telco.
I also looked in those korean versions. I do not believe you can get fm (or tv) reception in countries that do not utilize that system.
As far as LTE functionality, those korean models might match one or 2 of your country's LTE frequencies but not all. For example, none of the korean versions tune to the 2600 frequency.
Whether or not the fm hardware is there or not, is it not more involved setting up 2 assembly lines instead of one?
And like already stated: "Why the double standards"?
Add me to the list. Singapore and Starhub. Pretty disappointed.
Does anyone know if the phone has the hardware?
Welcome to the disappointed club!
The lack of radio and 64 GB model kept me from buing this one although I REALLY wanted it...
Is the radio harware there? I guess only Samsung knows.
Patience!
Australia is digital radio and tv ready. why didn't sumsung pt this feature in note 2? fortunately I haven't bought it yet.
Add me to the list of disappointed owner. I own a HongKong GT-N7105 Galaxy Note 2 LTE and I really never thought that something so basic cheap and useful would be let out of this high end piece. Does anyone have any info if the hardware is in there and that a software update or a dev could enable it? Cheers
Same problem here. No FM Radio app, I'm SO disappointed. Bought the device 3 days ago and just noticed that it's missing! WTF. Everyone doesn't have internet access all the time! And it takes a lot more battery to use mobile data on the go to listen music, when you can just turn on the app and listen it for real! And how about when you don't have access to mobile data, like when you're hiking and there's no mobile network! You might hear FM frequencies with the phone, but no, there is no app for the cause. Fck.
GT-N7105, 4.1.2 (N7105XXDLL5).
Seems like we aren't going to get FM Radio at all...

I hope they will make an update for radio on Lte version...
Can't update that!
It is missing the hardware!
I searches for this too ,same result :/ i dont see any other way than Google musix all acces , spotify or webradio ,that Kind of stuff

Normally it hasn't... But some other phones, like Droid 3, support it via application like Spirit FM etc...
It has the same solution???

The chipset of our phone supports it, but I seem to recall that our phone doesn't have an antenna connected to the pins to enable it.
too bad... same situation in Samsung i927 too??
I don't think so.
I still like using FM radio on some of my devices and I remember T-Mobile pushing for the FM chip to be enabled on all devices in late 2015. - http://www.tmonews.com/2015/08/t-mo...m-chip-will-push-oem-partners-to-do-the-same/
So I was a little disappointed when I saw that the Galaxy S7 didn't support NextRadio. But then I went to NextRadio's website and saw this in their press release on the Galaxy S7
"The nextradioapp.com supported device page has been updated to reflect the new phones and carrier information. Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge sold by AT&T support the NextRadio app download, Sprint will have the NextRadio app as a preload and the app is coming soon on T-Mobile phones as a download in a future update release." - http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160323005882/en/NextRadio®-App-Samsung-Galaxy-S7-S7-Edge
Now the question is when will this happen. The latest update didn't enable it, but I'd love to be able to use the FM radio on the S7 Edge. I currently use Tune In Radio, but I'd like an option of using radio instead of data when I am in areas where my data connection is not good.
I too have been looking everywhere for an update....I guess we all have to impatiently wait until it happens. :/
Does this type of FM radio tune in the HD stations, or just the basic fm stations? The reason I ask is I'd be a lot more interested in AM radio on a phone than FM. Some of my local AM stations appear also as HD stations on the FM band.
I downloaded NextRadio, and it let me use headphones as a antenna for FM radio.

Snapdragon processor here.
Downloaded and upgraded last night! Works perfectly. Downloaded the next radio App and for those worried about having to use headphones; you don't have to USE headphones you just need an antenna. so if you want to get around the whole carrying the head phones around issue. just bring an old or broken pair of Headphones or even cut them to about 6 inches so it is just a wire antenna. and as far the audio you can click "Output to speakers"
So now you have an antenna and you have audio AND if bluetooth is paired with a device an option to Output to Bluetooth" will appear as well.
EASY PEASEY! thanks T-Mobile for listening!!!
this is why i am with t-mobile - they listen
Ditto... installed the new upgrade today and it enables fm radio feature. Works great.
Okay so this is xda developers forum, not sammobile, am I right? Now, a dev question : I know my sm-g9350 is FM capable, it's all through the system files, but i don't have the fm modules. I'm rooted and won't be receiving ota's, which is completely normal for a rooted device. Can someone please advise me where i can find a guide on adding the needed fm files to my device? It should be similar to other samsung devices but I'm at a loss as to how to do this...
Someone has the update that enables FM radio to install it manually?
No one?
Thank you
I got the update and have access to FM radio and next radio, try using smart sync to update. It is a better way.
I'm rooted, smart switch won't do it for me.

I have the snapdragon Hong Kong variant, the only rootable sd820, and it is FM capable, its got the same guts as the US variants. So how do i enable fm?

Okay, so, since a quick Google search on specs and chips will confirm that sm-g9350 is FM capable (HERO2 MSM8996), and being root, how do I find the models i need to enable FM. Where do i find radio-iris-transport.ko, the FM_APPS folder, and anything else i need to put in my System files? Do i need to edit the kernel?

Nvm, found it, I'll let u know
wouldn't the fm update exist in the modem.bin?
Is there any rom, that have the UKW/FM Radio enabled?
It doesn't have a FM receiver
Are you sure? Because i think that Snapdragon 820 has FM reciever buildin, and if SONY does not grounded antena pin, then it is only software issue.
But if Snapdragon 820 have fm reciever, and SONY does not grounded antena pin, we will not see any FM path soon, for that we need lot of development because SONY will not release it, and i dont think that someone is working on that yet.
UPDATE: Snapdragon 820 have FM reciever, samsung released FM enable update for their devices with Snapdrafon 820. More info here: https://www.androidauthority.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s7-s7-edge-gained-fm-radio-latest-update-690893/
