[q][mod][cm11]pit gt-s7270 - Samsung Galaxy Ace 3

Sir or madame...
System partition size total 1.3GB, installing CM11 then :
- 461 MB used
- 846 MB free
Data partition size is 2GB. Installing app, storing pic or document then :
- 1.6 GB used, and
- 481 MB free

I dump pit file on Terminal Emulator use this command from this forum
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/storage/sdcard1/out.pit bs=8 count=580 skip=2176
-----------------------------------------------------------------
My questions is :
1. Can I modified PIT file for system partition?
2. My goal is, reduce system partition size form 1.3GB to 500MB. So, I have 800 MB unused, right? now I want this merge to Data. How to do this?

Yes, I used CM11 too. But, on /system left 800 MB unusable space. I think, if I can resize /system to 500 MB so we could have extra space for /Data.

even you will increase it it's little space we can use folder mount and we can transfer big app data to sdcard

so, there's way out to do that?
as you say folder mount, this is same like Move to SD?
as long as I try, I can't use Move to SD on CM11 but work on Stock Firmware. Just Link to SD work on CM11. So I make 2nd partition on SD Card then link big apps to 2nd partition

I think Link to SD is also better with cm11 and it's a little space comparing with SD card capacity

I was running Mz's CM6 RC3 today and I decided to go back to 2.1 for a while so I backed up my current ROM and selected backup all in MZ's openrecovery. Suspiciously, it was backing up SD ext too but I only had a fat32 SD card second partition, not an ext2 so I thought how it was possible? But I didn't bother and just factory reseted after backing up and went to one of my 2.1 backups. After a while, I decided to switch to the backup that I had just made (the cm6 one). I restored all, including SD ext. Now in openrecovery, the filesystem for the second partition shows ext2!!! I am 100% sure I had fat32 last time. Not only that, now the second partition can't be mounted for link2sd to work (the error always comes cannot mount Dev block....blablabla) what happened to my SD card partition? ?

Whoops sorry the error is mount script cannot be created I mean (for the link2sd error I get) Look at attached photo.

Nandroid always restores as ext2 and your 2.1 probably doesn't have ext2 modules. Your partition table also incorrectly lists the ext partion as FAT--that's probably not a serious problem.
I would put the card in a computer and reformat the extra as fat. The sd-ext nandroid is just a .tar file so you can extract that on windows manually.

No, I think you just have to reformat the second partition as fat. You don't have to touch the main fat partition.

I decided to partition my second partition as ext2. But somehow link2sd was not working but then i remembered u r supposed to create a sd-ext/link2sd directory so i created that, rebooted the phone and now i have apps on my ext2 partition! thx for all ur help! btw, is ext2 like better(faster maybe) compared to fat32?

need urgent help with partition

Dear Friends!!!
I have puchased a memory stick micro sd 32 gb for my LWW.
I've tried several times to partition it with two primary partition. One Fat32 primary partition about 30 gb, and the other primary partition about 1 gb. I've tried to use for the second partition Ext. 2, 3 and 4, but when I play "Aply" , the mini partition wizard creats it with non free space on the second partition.
I can´t understand what is going on with it. I formatted the microsd several times and the result is always the same, no free space on the ssecond partition.
I've tried to use Easus too, the result is the same. I've tried to make 3 partition, the 3rd. one Linux swap, about 32mb. Same result, non free space on second partition.
I need your help, I am worried about buying another and having the same problems. Please, please, help me please.: Llorando:

With which partition manager did you format the card and have you tried to partition the card with a computer?

if you're willing to use a computer I would recommend Paragon Partition Manager (for Windows), or gparted (for mac).
Although I haven't created or used more than one partition on an sd card, I would recommend changing to see if the partition is mounted. It could be that it has 0MB because it is not mounted.
Hope this helps.
I always use MiniTool® Partition Wizard Home Edition (http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html) to do partitioning, and have had no problems with it. Creating ext2/3 partiotions on windows can be tricky however. There is a possibility that it is created alright, but that your partition manager just says that the space is not free.
Did you check if it works on your phone and if you can see if the partition has free space on your phone (check for example with rootexplorer)? You can also just try a script and see if it works. I recommend the d2ext+ script from here.

Man it has been a long time since I used that program but IIRC you can only have 1 Primary partition. I think the others need to be set to Logic.
When I get home tonight, I'll boot it up and see if I can find anything that you might be missing. Seems like it should be a small little drop down or tick. From your screenies, it looks like it is set up correctly but I'll look at it when I get home from work and post some thoughts.

Could it be that you are not setting the partition type correctly? If you set up a new partition it should look like this:
So, file system ext3/4, primary partition.

This is incorrect, you can have 4 primary partitions, so there's no need to set them up as logical.

Can your Windows version read ext4 partitions? That could be a clue as to why it can't read/mount the new partition.
I would also like to suggest to make one partition primary and the other one logical just to be one the safe side.

[Q] Re-sizing Partitions

I have the SGS4G with remICS, i really like this ROM, it is the only custom Rom for this phone that functions as well as the stock GB. the only issue is, like all software, the newer stuff gets bigger and bigger. So the system Partition is nearly full, and thats without me adding to it too much, i removed some system apps and added a couple.
ultimately what i want to do is resize the partitions.
My goal is to take the System partition of about 403MB and combined it with the "internal" that is about 545MB. so that i can possibly throw all the t-mobile/google/samsung apps that i want to the system partition. and use my 32GB sdcard as the "internal," or if the system needs to have both and "internal" and "external" partition the sdcard into two 16GB and do it that way. also if possible i would like to maybe use some extra space and ad it to the RAM but that is probably not as possible.
no internal/external app or technique seems to work since for some reason this phone mounts the external sd as just "sdcard,"as if it is the only storage, which would be perfect if it acted as the internal, yet it still installs apps to the internal memory
what i have:
System 403MB
Internal 545MB
SDCard 33.4GB
my goal
System 948MB
Internal 33.4GB
-or-
System 948MB
Internal 16.7GB
SDCard 16.7GB

You'll need a custom kernel to change the sizes of the partitions. The MTD "partition table" is built into the kernel, not stored somewhere on the media like it is with a disk drive. You'll need to jump through some hoops as well to get in or out of your new kernel's MTD partition map.
To be very clear, unless you understand what you are doing you can completely pooch your phone by messing with the MTD partition map.
/system isn't your only problem -- the more you add to /system, the more you add to /data/dalvik-cache
You'll also need to rework recovery so that it knows the logical arrangement of the partitions.
I've been looking at this for a bit and am running /data external on my (fast) microSD, with /data/dalvik-cache using the internal flash previously dedicated to /data. See the thread on Hefe Hook Kernel to see how to do this. Running the Dalvik cache externally seems to be sluggish compared to using the internal flash. I don't know if it is a real effect, or just my prejudice after seeing the internal flash performing better on short reads than my Class 10 / UHS-1 microSD running ext4.
I personally think you're in for more problems than just "disk" space if you're running more than a relatively core set of Gapps on the SGS4G.
Once I get the mess of a build tree we have now unwound a bit and have one that I am confident about why things are working as they do, I may take a stab at a KitKat ROM that basically requires a fast microSD for storage.

[Q][8Gb] Why so little space available?

Hi all.
I own a 8Gb Moto G and I absolutely love it, but there is one thing that bugs me: why, out of ~8Gb total space, only about 5.7 Gb is reserved for the /data partition? I mean, it know that about 750Mb-1Gb is taken by the OS but what about the other 1.5 Gb? 5.7Gb is a very little space, especially if, like me, you're running ART, because data, cache, dalvik-cache and all my files are there. I'm not complaining, because I just need to clean junk files once in a while, but I was just curious.
Thanks to anyone who'll help me clear this out [emoji1]

I think the system requires 2gb
If you running short of space you consider buying OTG drive and use it as external storage.
Something like this "Sandisk Ultra Dual 16 GB On-The-Go Pendrive "
Just a thought.

No, it's a separate partition. This is a very stupid decision from moto, since that partition is very rarely used and they have set it to whopping 652MB.
They could have used a directory on the /data partition and make that space available to the user, but they have decided that they need reserved space......

I analyzed 2 cases:
1) In this case total used space is 4.29 GB (checked by ES Explorer). Let's go to subtract all the space used by the stuff in the Storage List to see how much is occupied by system only.
4.29 - 1.19 (apps) - 0 (pictures, videos) - 0.011 (audio) - 0 (downloads) - 0.476 (cached data) - 0.002 (misc) = 2.611 GB occupied by system.
8 GB - 5.69 (total usable space shown) = 2.310 GB is the space occupied by system according to the Storage List. Well, I got a ~301 MB difference (ES Explorer shows more space used by system than Storage List).
2) I cleared the cache and made another try. This time the total used space is 3.04 GB (checked by ES Explorer). Let's go to subtract all the space used by the stuff in the Storage List to see how much is occupied by system only.
3.04 - 1.19 (apps) - 0 (pictures, videos) - 0.011 (audio) - 0 (downloads) - 0.012 (cached data) - 0.002 (misc) = 1,825 GB occupied by system.
Again 8 - 5.69 = 2.310 GB is the space occupied by system according to the Storage List. Well, I got a ~485 MB difference (this time the storage list shows more space used by system than ES Explorer).
So, what's goin' on? The point is that if you clean the cache is subtracted more space than the indicated amount (1.25 GB freed instead of 476 MB indicated) so the cache space amount in Storage List is "wrong" or we should say that isn't all-inclusive. So, the total space used by system is around 1.82 GB, excluded cache. The Storage List probably reserves a little bit of space for the system usage, so it shows 5.69 GB instead of 6,18 GB as total space. :good:
You're making unnecessary gymnastics.....

From some experimenting, the cache partition seems to be used for storing temp files during fastboot flashing, so yes, it is very much needed

Yea, it's also used for OTA updates too, but there are way more elegant ways to do this, without the need for a separate partition.

[QUESTION] Install apps to external SD (ROOT) app? Galaxy ON5 G550t

I want to install ALL of my apps automatically (from Play Store) on to my EXTERNAL SD card without using any kind of adoptive option. I have root. I have a fast external SD card.
What app can I use. Does such an app exist? Have you tried it? Does it work?
Please note that I am aware that I can do this manually with SOME apps. I do not want this. I want them all to go over, and I want it automatic.
This would be such a great phone for the price if they corrected this small SD card issue.
I have been literally trying this all day today as well with no luck, I am not rooted though mind sharing which method you used?
If I ever get it to work ill let you know!

ROOT is pretty basic. Here's a nice step by step guide. (tmob/metro only)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-samsung-galaxy-on5-t3435457
I just tried to do the root essentials "install to sd" technique in conjunction with a Titanium Backup restore, and all the apps still installed on the main sd.
I've gotten it to work, after a bit of trial and error. First, make sure you are using this recovery:
Recovery tar :http://www.mediafire.com/?ysugtwzzusxgvw7
Recovery image:http://www.mediafire.com/?tln7q406dmejeq5
Boot into recovery and partition SD Card to 4GB or 6GB as ext4.
The rest of the sd card will be formatted with fat32.
The ext4 will become your "2nd partition".
Download and install Apps2SD Pro.
Go into Partition Tool within the app and you should see fat32 size and ext4 file system according to the size you allocated in recovery.
Select Format from the drop down and re-check the fat32 and ext4 file systems.
It should then prompt you to reboot.
Go back into and select Link apps to SD card, then select Recreate mount script from the left menu...
There are a few other options possibly, but those are the basics... You should now be able to link you apps to the 2nd Partition. Hope this helps!
I'm using 5.25GB out of 8GB internal storage and have several games installed that easily consume over 3GB alone!
