Hello all,
I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus (GT-P6210) and have a few questions or considerations to make.
I searched the forum for answers but cannot find it.
Currently my tab is not rooted or running custom firmware.
Android version 3.2 Honeycomb is installed since the purchase, but I cannot download updates.
The OTA updater says no update available and the Samsung Kies software also says 3.2 is the most recent version.
On the internet I find lots of news articles writing about Samsung official update to ICS 4.0 and even JB, which I cannot download.
Does somebody know how to get official update from Samsung for the tablet?
If not, I consider rooting the tablet and download the official firmware myself.
After a lot of research I have some question marks for the procedure.
I want to install CWM with root.
Backup my Android 3.2 ROM via CWM.
Update Android 3.2 to 4.1 via Odin.
But, as far as I know, the root access will be removed when using Odin to flash official firmware.
CWM does not work without root, so how will I get root access after flashing Android 4.1?
Sorry for the large story, but I do not know how to write this shorter.
I am looking forward to your replies.
After installing the updated firmware you redo the root procedure and install cwm again, after you can use Romtoolbox to remove unwanted Samsung bloatware and lighten you ROM so as to speed up your tab.
Pp.
First, you need to upgrade your tab to 4.1 with odin. You can find the firmware at sammobile. Then flash cwm/twrp from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538507
To root you can flash supersu 2.46
Thanks for your replies!
I am using Android 4.1 now for a few months on the tablet, works great!
Very happy that Odin did good work.

Dear friends,
I just rooted and installed the cw recovery in my newly bought ASUS TF. The current version is 8.4.4.11, 3.1. Then how can I update my machine to V8.6.5.9, 3.2 without wipe?
Thank you very much!
Depending on which rooting method you used, if you read the root thread, it will advise you to update to the latest firmware for your model before rooting. You won't be able to update to the latest firmware after rooting and installing cwm recovery because the update will fail. You will need to return back to full unrooted stock with no cwm recovery, then update to the latest firmware, then reroot. PM me for instructions on how to return to stock.

I have seen this a few times, you do not have to return to stock to update your firmware. A couple of nice people have made the update compatible with CWM and you just have to put the zip on your SD card and install it from CWM. Here's the links to go to .9 and .13 Cheers.

After looking at what firmware you are at, I'm not sure if there are zip updates that go back that far, but you can certainly search to see...Cheers.

But mine is 8.4.4.11, 3.1 rather than 8.6.5.9, 3.2....
Install a new custom rom
I rooted my Tab 2 7.0 using the methods here. Now how do I install the 4.0.4 upgrade form Samsung? I tried using VooDoo OTA to temporarily unroot but when the upgrade tried to boot it did not go to the stock install screen and the upgrade failed before it started.
if you root it, you won't be able to upgrade to 4.04
read here to unroot your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655698
Thanks
Thanks. I think I will just leave it as it is on 4.0.3 as it is working.
4.04 is more smoother than 4.03, especially in Contacts app
other than that is pretty much same
After flashing the above file and installing the 4.0.4 upgrade is there a root path available to root my Tab 2 7 again?
For a person such as myself that doesn't do much flashing of files would you kindly explain what CWM is? I rooted my Tab 2 initially following instructions from this forum using Odin.
Thanks again for the assistance.
Hi,
I have a P3113.
I want to be able to receive the OTA updates from Samsung, but their OTA update process invokes a reboot into their stock recovery to complete the update. So, if I replace the stock recovery, the official OTA updates wont be able to complete.
But the only way I have seen to "root" a stock ROM was to first replace the stock recovery with CWM recovery, which is need to install a Zip file that does the actual root.
But, once I replace the stock recovery, I will no longer be able to do official OTA updates because they require a stock recovery.
So, what can I do to have a stock ROM and Recovery on my tab, but also be rooted?
If you have the mobile odin pro (paid) and managed to flash stock firmware (the updated one) that you downloaded from www.samfirmware.com (register first) then you will be able to retain root after flashing if you checked the everroot option in mobile odin pro
Or receive the latest firmware via kies then you could root it afterwards ( root the updated firmware)
Or flash the updated firmware from samfirmware via odin pc 1.85 and then root again as usual
As i know no flashable zip to flash to give you the stock recovery
I suggest update via pc odin and forgetting about update via kies
If anytime you want to use kies for update, you could flash first stock firmware via pc odin then update or flash the updated firmware directly then root

Thanks for the info - very helpful.
So am I correct in my understanding here, I can flash stock with mobile Odin, keep my root have stock recovery and then be able to get ota updates without a problem (or use kies to get the update, either way is fine by me).
If I am correct I love you all more and more everyday I come here
Just trying to confirm my understanding

So this is kind of a bump since I am trying to understand if I am correct here. I am still new to all this and want to learn things.
If I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash stock firmware with EverRoot on my P3113, then I can still receive normal updates either via OTA or Kies (which is preferred?). This will keep stock recovery, for the updates, and preserve my root so I can enjoy the benefits.
Does this plan run the risk of bricking on updating? Due to the fact that it is rooted, I thought you can NOT do a regular update (or was that just because of CWM being the recovery?).
What happens when Jelly Bean goes to roll out, will this brick the device since it is a whole new OS? Will this break root and I will need to re-root?
Just trying to understand everything before I make a decision on how I proceed with my device from here. I have never used Mobile Odin, and this is my first rooted device, so I apologize for my questions, but how else will I learn?
Thanks for your time, and your help, and as I said I love you all more and more each time I come around here, since I usually learn something new

Sorry guys it's right there in development.
Hi
I rooted my note 10.1 quite a while ago (~6 months)
The method I used I believe was to flash something using odin (cf autoroot? )
Anyway I just wanted root to be able to use sixaxis but was happy with stock rom. Now it has been a while I would like to update my rom and by going into su and temporarily disabling root I can download the ota update from samsung but it refuses to install.
Does anyone know a way to just remove root so I can install the ota update and not have to do a full wipe.
I could download the rom from samsungfirmware and then install with odin but would that not require a wipe?
Thanks

No suggest you use Kies .
I know this a stupid question but i really dont know, and i searched google and here and couldnt find an answer
Please help me
Basically you start from downgrading your tablet to 4.4 version via ODIN it's an app to manage flashing rom's to android devices. After you have downgraded you run towelroot. After this you get FireFly app to install current version. While preserving root. Ah, you will need to get wirmwares go to sammobile.com
I have successfully rooted my SM-P905 with Lollipop for like a month now. The procedure is the same as in KitKat.
You flash the Lollipop firmware, you flash latest TWRP and then the SuperSU flashable zip. Now I 'am using the latest SuperSU beta 2.49 since an app that I use (Button Pro) requires it. But also the stable release SuperSU 2.46 worked.
I didn't use CF Autoroot.
Could you explain better all the passages to root lollipop and where get all the files needed, thanks in advice!
