Naked Tough Case - Must Have for Wood Models - X 2014 Accessories

Picked up this case recently, never realized how nice it was. I was rather opposed to them initially, I didn't like the way the gel bumper looked in any photos or videos. For some reason it just looked like it completely obscured the nice metal edges of the phone and then on the back it looked like a squashed Hula case showing through the clear part. However going into an AT&T store with a friend on errands I noticed they were the only ones that seem to sell the case in store (My VZW location sure doesn't). Seeing it in person was completely different. The gel bumper is actually the case's best feature with the shiny buttons and making a nice clean-looking border around the phone while still being able to see the metal edged design at about 50% transparency. Overall I have to say this is easily the best Moto X 2014 clear case on the market right now. Especially for owners of a wood-backed model, it's like adding a gloss clear coat to the finish. Really brings out the rich color in my Teak finish. And the shiny buttons are a perfect match for the the silver option speaker grilles and trim. It's turned out to be a big attention grabber, in the form of "Is that a new iPhone?" / "Is that a new Galaxy?"

Looks really nice. Any amazon link?

There weren't any being sold on Amazon when I purchased mine. That may have changed since then but I haven't checked. At the time I got mine, the only options were to buy one through AT&T or from Casemate themselves. Both are pricey at $30, but you get what you pay for in a quality case. The last clear case I had was a $12 SUPCASE from Amazon, and it was completely yellow after only a month. I've only had the Naked Tough Case for a few days but I can already tell by the higher quality materials that this won't be an issue for a long time.

it actually looks very nice, I've been wanting one of those cases for months and all I've got is a hard clear case.

Bought my girlfriend one for her bamboo, looks great. I'm truly second guessing my black leather decision...:-\

Now that looks sweet on wood back...

I agree, could not bring myself to cover up the Bamboo on what I call the "Bamboo Phone" [emoji16]

naked tough case
I picked one of these up, a bit expensive at $30 here in canada and a tad slippery but definitely fits the phone well and I like that the wood's not covered.

Any cases out there slimmer and better looking than barely there case mate ones??

As per subject really.
I've currently got a gel type case, does the job as it should, but you only realise how much bigger it makes the phone look when you take it off (!)
The only 'slim' case I've seen is the barely there (in my opinion it is clearly there!).
I know the iphone 3Gs has an extremly slim, transparent case, that covers all for edges of the phone. Now that one is a true 'barely there' case!
Anything similar out there for the Deisre?
AFAIK there's nothing slimmer than the "barely there".
I ordered an ebay (way cheaper) version of the Barely There because it looked great and also have a sick design.
A lot a members said it's thin and dope (yes, the case is on... even if you can't really see it, hence the name ).
It even comes with an extra screen protector so you don't have to worry about screen scratches.

Yep, I've seen these on eBay too, I wasn't overly concerned about getting it cheaper but more for the points I described in my original post- i.e something that covers all four edges (with cut outs) and it needs to be transparent.
Please be careful with the cheap ebay ones. Bought one for my girlfriends blackberry, but the dye used to colour the case rubbed off on her hand and face, and eventually permanently stained her phone.
Cheap cases are rarely worth it.

I too was in the same situation as you. Had a gel case but still wanted the phone to be slimmer.
So I bought one of these. The full body one:
http://www.bestskinsever.com/htc-desire-skin
It's very good and can put it in my pocket and not worry and not be bothered about putting it down on hard surfaces too. The only thing is doesn't offer is protection from being dropped.
Phil
Ok, so received all of them yesterday and they're great.
Unlike what wnp_79, there's no problem with them, no dye, really great touch feeling.
I won't pay 15 or 20 euros, from companies who are buying then same stuff from HK and then selling it back 10 times higher.
I paied 6 euros for 2 cases and they're great

I think it because of the two tone of the Desire (light grey on top and dark grey on the bottom) that makes the 'barely there' cases stand out a bit too much.
I suppose if there was transparent one available, I'd give it a go.
EDIT: Oh this seems promising:

Would that be CaseMate? Tough?
There are quite a few threads open about cases already...
I bought a 2$ silicone case from dealextreme, still waiting for it to come in, but good reviews on it.

Can you show us some pics?
I am sure it's been mentioned before and there are probably even some reviews, but I can highly, highly recommend the Case-Mate Tough for the Desire HD. It's an amazing case, by far the best one I've used.
I've had it for a couple of months already. It fits great, looks great and feels great in my hands. So far after 2 months of use it looks like brand new - no wear around the edges. One thing I was a little bit concerned about in the beginning is that the bottom part, which is rubber only (look-up some pictures) would stretch and sag, but that hasn't happened at all.
Just go out and get one, you won't be disappointed ;-)
I got a Case-mate Barely There case.
It's good enough for me as i haven't dropped my phone so far. usually happens in the first few days.
Screen film is also great, can barely see it and the phone is perfectly usable.
I Got A E-Cell Carbon Fiber Case,
Got It Off Ebay For £4.99
Seems To Be Of Decent Build Quality
Tough case user here too, awesome case. Lovin it.
no cases ftw
I am using one from Capdase (http://www.capdase.com/en/product5.php?cid=1&bid=5&mid=1153&pid=8890)
Has been serving me well and saved a drop too! DHD becomes more rugged with this.
Otterbox is the best bet for protection. I'm currently using the defender series. It feels really safe and secure. Although quite expensive, well worth the investment.

I've just got the otterbox commuter and it seems great, phone feels really good to hold in the hand and looks like it will protect phone if I drop it

Mini review: Nillkin case

Bought on eBay for $6.00 from someone in Brooklyn. Very simplistic. Adds a nice grip feel. Doesn't provide any impact protection from drops over two feet. I'm pretty sure about that statement. When otter box releases a commuter or defender I'll be switching. Overall for general wear and tear protection, the best $6 spent for this phone.

i have the same one added some Velcro to hook up my portable amp to it with ease
Suffered a nice fall today. Was walking looking at an email. Shoulder checked a massive column in a mall. Silver Bezel on bottom took a nice ding. Rest of phone is fine, no cracks to front or back. Ordered a diztronic case. If it wasn't for the exposed top and bottom of the case it would have been fine. It did however protect the two most important parts of the phone. So it gets an A- in its short time of use. Lesson learned, pay attention when walking.

I'm still waiting for Nillkin to release a TPU case! Surely these hard cases do nothing to dampen the impact?

Yes, especially when it hits marble. Its not bad but disheartening considering its less than 48 hours old. Fortunately, rooted 4.2.2 with the new boot loader and radio put a huge smile on my face and the diztronic will cover it up anyway. I'm fortunate that nothing broke, and its still just a phone.

Do you find the case slick/slippery to the touch/hold? I have one, but felt the plastic was too slick even with the pebbled surface and decided to switch to a ballistic. I do like it and if the phone wasn't covered in glass, I might have stuck with it.
Yeah it was a little slippery. that's how I ended up losing grip.

Perfect
I have one, grey colour. After trying many cases, I think this one does the best job. It protects well and also leaves the phone accents to be easily seen.
Sure, I am not the biggest fan of TPU cases as they tend to loose in time, but this one is actually quite ok.
And one more thing: it definitely does not scratch the metal edges.

it's not a bad case, but beware if there's a dust will scratch the silver side of note 4...
also after 2month usage, the bottom of the case start loosing, but typical problem for tpu case after some times
Got similar TPU case and had to cut out the buttons they are so sensitive on this device it was going out and on up and down all the time
I have the grey one, it is very cheap. I don't like it, it fits well and is slim but I don't like the feel, shiny and rubbery makes it feel very cheap to me...I know it is cheap but I don't want my phone to end up feeling cheap
I would love to see pictures of a phone in this... right now there're just pictures of the backs themselves...
Hi,
I have a question to OP. Is the TPU case thick enough to protect the back camera from touching the ground surface when placing on table or floor etc?
I have purchased a cheap TPU case before but it leave the back camera exposed to the potential of scratching when placing on table. Currently using Spigen Neo Hybrid which works perfect but look a bit bulky.
Thanks.
I just hate the sticky rubbery feel of TPU. Just feels cheap to me. Also these TPU cases tend to sag and loosen over time.
I have this and a diztronic, diztronic is in a whole different league, still essentially a rubber case but so so much better and doesn't feel cheap.

VRS DUO GUARD CASE. Very nice.

Wassup guys just a little review. Got my 1st case in today. Wish i had the phone to go inside it. 2 part case.
1st impressions....very nice case. Great feel to it. Light and comfortable. May be a little slippery but not too bad. Sides do offer some grip tho with rubberish material. Great finish on it with the coral blue. Kick stand feels decent stays in place when open and snaps back closed when needed. Button press seems like it will be fine but cant tell until phine arrives. Over all protection id rate 6 out of 10.
1 of the things i noticed first was how thin the case was. This is not a bad thing. Im comming from a note 4 with a verus thor case and can fit the new case almost inside the verus thor note 4 case. This is good relating to actual phone size. My note 4 was slightly too large to properly hold it in my hand. This seems like it will be nearly perfect for me.
2 things im worried about.....when the phone is in the case and face down im hoping it leaves a gap between the surface and screen. I believe it does but again i need my phone to tell.
2 inner part of kickstand. Im worried about it somehow scratching the back glass of the phone. Anyone know where to get a rear body plastic protector?
Check out some pics. Hope this helps.
Nice. I was checking those out. I bought 5 Thors for my N4 at $3 each. Waiting for that sale again from Verus. Bring on the N7!
Buy a premium metal glass phone and put it into a plastic rubber case breaks my heart. Waiting for the drop tests if it's durable I will add skin on the back to only remove those finger prints and make the phone less slippery. Maybe some mental frame would be cool too, but then phone becomes more bullky.
I got the VRS TPU case. Looks pretty awesome so far!
