Cannot write to MicroSD - General Questions and Answers

Hello.
I have Samsung Galaxy K Zoom with Android 4.4.2. I have bought microSD card 64GB (62,5 real capacity) from Aliexpress. SD Card works good when I use it on my PC (Windows 7) but I can't use it on my phone. The phone detects card, when I format it there were folders on SD, also I can make a folder. But when I try to write something on it, to save photo from camera, from any samsung app, any third party app, SD doesn't work and after that all the folders on it are gone. Also after I reboot the phone it doesn't detect it, so I need to Mount it and format it all over again. My phone is rooted, I've tried KitKat SD patches from playstore, but nothing works.
Any solutions?

MicroSD card not working, need help!

I have a T-Mobile G2 with stock 8GB microsd card. I was recording a video about 45 secs into it and all of a sudden the phone froze, I am not sure if it got full caz just before taking the video I checked and there was ~1.8GB free space. After a while an message came up saying "Please insert a SD card" (something along those line), so I figured my card must be full.
So I decided to go try and delete some file on it, only to find out all my apps installed on SD card was now unavailable, this is when I started to worry. I rebooted the phone, no luck. I shut it down and removed and replaced the SD card, no luck.
Plugged it into a Windows PC (Win XP 32 bit), it would see it in My Computers for few seconds and would disappear, even if I try to access it, it was just disappear.
I have some pictures and videos that I had taken on vacation which I really need, any ideas?
Currently as a temp solution I have a 4GB Microsd card in it and everything is fine (obviously, apps still not available), but I need the data from my original 8GB as this is my main concern, please help.
Btw, I have tried using recovery software such as Recuva and testdisk but since windows won't even see the drive I cannot use such software.
Thanks a ton.
if the sd not detected in phone or pc, maybe the sd card already dead.
anyone please?
Thanks
Im not sure what else can be said. If you computer and phone cant see the card, then it's probably dead. All you can at this point is attempt to do a quick format of the card and try to use the recovery software on it to see if you can restore the file structure

Yeh that is my last resort, but the problem is I cannot do anything as the drive disappears 2-3 seconds after windows detects it and when I try to do anything to that drive it just freezes for a while and closes itself.
any ideas??
if you have a digital camera insert the micro-sd via adapter make sure though to unmount the micro-sd via CWM for example, you should now be able to format the micro-sd card over the menu of your camera. if this doesn't work there's still hope you can try to format it on a linux based system but for now try to format it on your cam
Regular recovery methods won't work too good on an sd card, they were meant for spinning drives. Flash memory either works or it doesn't usually. Try cleaning the contacts and using different card reader/adapter combos. Try a linux live cd etc. If it's dead or corrupted, your kinda stuck. Even a format worked I wouldn't trust it again.

new SD card: now error: Application not installed on your phone"

Just moved from a 8 GB to a 32GB card. And cannot use it...
First I unmounted the old SD card on the phone, and put in the new, unformatted 32GB. I then choose to format it in the phone. Its a Galaxy S GT-9003i with firmware I9003XXKPN v2.3.5
It formated fine. Then I unmounted the new card, plonked in the old card and connected the phone in USB mode to the Macbook. I also connected the newly formatted SD card via a card reader, and it promptly showed up, with the correct free space (although there was a directory on it already called LOST.DIR)
I then copied all apps from the phones 8GB SD to the 32GB card, using the laptop (drag and drop). This also went fine and without a glitch. I then shut down the phone, swapped out the SD cards and booted the phone on again. As expected, it went to do the usual Scanning USB memory. It completed. The space appears to be taken up, but all apps that are on that USB are inaccesible. Their icons grey Androids with a small SD logo in the bottom right corner.
All other apps (the ones on the phone) work fine. The SD card can be used to copy files to on the computer and to take pictures...
Phone is not rooted.
PLease help, if you have a solution to this...

Have you tried rebooting your phone? If it still does not work, try to unmount your SD Card via settings and then wait for it to successfully unmount and then mount again

ah ha
So, I cannot even find the app2sd app under My Apps on the Google Play store... weird. Its also not listing under Manage Applications. Would this really be the cause of the problem!?
Anyone else have any ideas, why the phone cannot load the apps copied from the other SD card...!?!
First of all u have to move all apps from the old sd card to the phone. Or while inserting ur new sd, the apps you moved to your old sd will not work

Thanks, but I canot make sense of this. Firstly all apps on the old SD card will never fit onto the phone (8GB, vs 2GB space), and secondly elsewhere online they always talk about copying files to the new card and then inserting that instead of the old one....
mmmh...!? Whilst I apprecite your post - its not working for me
When apps are moved to the SD card, it isn't entirely moved to the SD card. Only part of it is, that's why when installing apps the space for apps still decreases. Therefore you should use titanium backup or similar backup programs to move the applications.

Thanks,I had a look at titanium backup, but it requires root access (my phone has not been rooted). I really dont think one should need to root their phone to move from a small to a larger SD card without having to re-install all apps from scratch...!?

OK, so I rooted the phone and used Titanium Backup. It created a backup file on the phone memory. I thought, voila, I am good then, popped in the new SD card, formatted it, and did the restore from Titanium Backup... but:
still getting a lot of greyed out files in the application folder and on the home screens... I really cannot believe all this work is needed to swap out SD cards from a smaller to larger capacity! what a pain in the •••
I have the same problem on my new samsung 32gb 10 class micro sd card and still searching for the solution. If anyone have a solution, please, share it for us. Thanks!

I have the same problem to, just backed up my old 16gb card to my pc, installed and formatted a new 32gb card in my S4 and copied the data back over and all the apps that are on the sd card are showing up grey.
Ok, after a quick google, i've found that making a clone of the card and then copying the clone to the new card works
you can use HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool to do this (you'll have to google it as I don't have enough posts to post external links)

Thanks! Yeah that works perfectly! (Apparently there are some "secure" folders in the SD card that start with a period, and the contents do not get copied at all. Those hold the apps and data.) However after using HDD-Raw-Copy it will create an exact replica of the smaller SD card on the larger one and the larger one will appear to be small too, so you must resize your partition or you won't gain anything, your new card will be exactly the same as the old one! You can use MiniTool Partition Wizard home edition which is free to do this: partitionwizard.com :good:
I had the same problem but I was able to fix without extra software. Took old card out of my phone and installed both externally via flash readers to my pc and copied files from one to the other. View hidden files is turned on just in case any hidden items is also copied. This work great for me all apps are accessible now. Hope this helpped
Here is the step-by-step solution: http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/id-2545604/move-data-card-samsung-galaxy.html
There are two ways described to do it successfully:
METHOD 1 uses the xcopy (or xcopy32) command in a Cmd Prompt windown on Windows. The /h switch used on the command allows the hidden and system files to be copied!
METHOD 2 uses a straight copy from old SD card to the new SD card (or from old SD card to folder on computer, then from folder on computer to new SD card) using the simple drag and drop on Windows. BUT YOU MUST HAVE WINDOWS EXPLORER CONFIGURED TO SHOW SYSTEM AND HIDDEN FILES!
Just to be clear, the solution to the problem is trivial. You are simply copying ALL the files from one SD card to another. There is absolutely no reason that copying ALL files from one SD card, including the complete file structure, to another SD card should not work. Your phone can't tell that you switched SD cards. It only knows the files and file structure it can see on the SD card and if they are EXACTLY the same as they were before the switch, your phone should work exactly like it did before the switch except now it will see more free storage space on your larger SD card (which was probably your goal in the first place) AND your phone may possibly even run faster by accessing the data much faster if your new SD card is a faster class of storage media.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO ROOT YOUR PHONE OR INSTALL ALL KINDS OF CRAZY APPS ON YOUR PHONE OR SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER TO DO THIS!!!
BUT, the key is that YOU MUST ALSO COPY ALL THE HIDDEN FILES and there are lots of them on Android! Everytime I hear of someone having a problem with switchinging to a new SD card, it is because they did NOT copy the hidden files OR their SD card was not properly formatted (FAT32) for the phone.
Please click the Thanks button if this has helped you!

Can't access to my files from tablet to computer only old photo not showing all

Hello guys. I believe before I would able to go Computer, GT-N8013 then select both hard drive and able to access all my pic and video now it doesn't show new pic and some of older pic i had this problem for a while. I'm not sure if it's because I upgraded the version but I did remember
I did a factory reset. Also seem to be a bit slow to load up preview in gallary. Os I use is Windows 7 and Window 8. I want to view all the files. Any idea? Yes the new photos is in my gallery.
Have you installed Samsung USB drivers or Kies ???
jje
I had a problem recently where I could see photos in the gallery on my Note but the PC could not read the SD card either by USB connection or by plugging the SD card directly into the PC card reader. I only realised there was a problem when I could not delete a photo from the tablet!
The solution for me was to reformat the SD card on the PC (the format card option on the tablet had no effect) and then (sigh) copy all 16gb off photos back to the card.
If your problem is with the internal storage then this doesn't really help but ultimately it may be worth considering reformatting the internal SD storage.

Well I am able to delete photo on the tablet. Problem is I am able to access the internal and external memory except the new photo it wont show up if i connect to computer but does show up the old picture. Another thing is on my S2 once i changed back to stock rom i have same problem. What I can do is zip all the pic of internal then upload to a host website. I didn't had this problem with my Samsung Galaxy note tablet on 16gb now I have the 32 gb tablet since i got rid of 16gb version in Mexico. Kies is a no go. I'll try samsung driver but thing is my computer do detect the device and able to access the old files and files i put in.

Sony Xperia L + MicroSD Card - Problem?

Hello. I have this smartphone since couple of days. Today I bouht a microSD Card TDK 16GB. The phone found the card, but I was unable to read or write on the card. I tried the card with MicroSD Card Reader and the card worked fine. I also tried to put my old MicroSD Card from my old phone on the Xperia L. The old card is Apacer 8GB with two partitions. The first is for storage and the second is for Applications linked with Link2SD. The Xperia L found only the second partition (for the apps), but I was able to write on the card and also read from it. I tried to format the new MicroSD Card from Windows and from the phone - no results. Then I updated the phone from PC Companion. There was a new firmware, I think. The Android version is the same 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The SD stared to work on the phone. I can read and write on the card. I decided to install iGo navigation. All ok, but when I put the maps on, the application starts to crash and says, that there is an error in the maps. The maps however work fine, because I have tested them on my older phone. Then I installed iGo on the internal memory of the phone (SDCard0 - that are saying ES File Explorer and Astro File Manager for the Internal Memory and the SD Card is SDCard1) and the Navigation now is working fine. Is there a problem with the phone or with the MicroSD Card? Separately they both work fine. I tried the MicroSD Card with other files - music, pictures, videos - all is working fine, but I have problem with the Navigation. What do you think? Is there a problem somewhere? Why I can't run iGo from the MicroSD Card? Is this a Software or a Hardware problem? Is the problem from the Phone or from the MicroSD Card? Is there a problem at all?

I have heard that older versions of firmware had issues with some cards and do not have the latest.
I'm using the latest and I have no problem with any card.
You are using version 15.0.A.2.17?
If not install it and see if the problem persists.
I found out, what was the problem with the iGo and the MicroSD Card. I tried GTA Vice City too. I need Root to be able to move the files from the internal memory to the SD Card. Now however I have another BIG problem. With the new firmware 15.0.A.2.17 I have the Walkman player problem. With the older I didn't have this problem. Now the player can't play proper the songs. I tried all. The tipp from Sony : Deleting the songs, format the SD Card from the phone, copy the songs - no results. I also tried to put the songs on the internal memory - same problem. I reseted the phone from PC Companion and the problem is still on. Any solutions for that?
Strange that.
I have no problem with the Walkman. Have you tried flashing the firmware for FlashTool?
Could you help me on one thing, you would have an MHL adapter with an HDMI cable to test the Xperia L is able to be passed the image to tv?
15.0.A.2.17 firmware fixed Class 10 SD card problem for me.
You can also try to format the card on another phone. I did it with my SGAce and it works! I also formatted in XL just in case, but it recognised the card after the Ace formatting.

Try everything I have done, no luck. is this mean my SD card is not working or what. I know some people can use up to 128G.
P.S. SD card shows mounted to the device properly and working fine in my other device.

I'm not say that this is going to, or still is an issue, however, in MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and from what i have read 6-10 months ago or more (maybe they have solved this issue by now i don't know) every time i formated an SD card Via PC it was horrible and the format destroyed the MicroSD card for use with any android device and then even my computer and they where all BRAND NEW. I think it has something to do with the formatting process of the SD cards and the phone because my 32GB cant be recognized anymore by any device but i can format it all day long on my PC and my androids will not see it... I even tried to format it BACK to what android uses to format the cards on ADB and NOTHING ever worked again. MY SUGGESTION IF YOUR USING IT FOR YOUR PHONE DON'T FORMAT YOUR CARD VIA PC. Flash memory is also has a write life. UNLIKE A HDD that you can erase and move files around constantly the more you erase and move files on your SD card the quicker you are going to see the integrity of your card degrade because FLASH Memory can not handle the constant moving and erasing over and over again. so if you want to ave the life of your flash memory and don't want it tos burn out because i guarantee it will, just be mindful of how many times you move and erase. just a tip. if im wrong someone correct me. good luck!
Try to reformat it on the tablet, not the PC. (Settings --> Storage --> Format MicroSD)
