[APP][4.4+] Galaxy EdgeBoard panel - device dashboard - Android Apps and Games

A dashboard that displays current date, time, battery status and level, list of running apps (only rooted!) and list of favorite apps (customizable). It comes with 3 panels: one as described, one for running app list and one for favs. Almost everything is clickable including date, battery, time and icons of running/fav apps.
Originally made for Note Edge but works on other Samsung devices including Note8 and S9.
You need to enable the panel before it appears, see this tutorial.

Changelog:
Updated 10 May 2018 (v0.83):
bug: fixed crash on Android 8 when tapping tasks button
bug: set explicit light color for date/time (some devices would use black and black on black is hard to see)
Updated 2 May 2018 (v0.82):
bug: fixed possible crashes on Android 8
Updated 11 April 2018 (v0.8):
automatic refreshing of task list on the main panel when panel is being shown (can be disabled in prefs)
bug: fixed multiple issues with task list (not refreshing, missing apps when hide-favs pref if set)
minor: "tasks" buttons now call up Samsung's task switcher instead of task manager
minor: new icon
Updated 10 April 2018 (v0.75):
favorites can now be reordered by dragging
added Phone button to main panel (to make up for missing Phone app from favs), can be hidden in prefs
minor: added battery level text to landscape (some people requested it)
minor: added indication to tasks panel if task list is unreadable
minor: hiding Clock/Calendar/Phone apps from task list, if pref "hide favorites from running tasks" is set
Updated 8 April 2018 (v0.7):
Samsung Slook SDK was updated to 1.4.0 which hopefully fixes compatibility issues with recent phones
bug: fixed dispaying non-bitmap app icons (becoming more and more common) - e.g. IMDb
bug: tasks are now started wtih FLAG_ACTIVITY_REORDER_TO_FRONT | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP flags; previously they didn't and this caused new instance to be started even for running tasks (sometimes causing data loss)
minor: tapping on current date now brings up Clock app (with Alarms, Timer, etc.) instead of date/time settings, unless the former is missing
minor: by default, hidetasks preference is false unless the app was made system
minor: added indication if EdgeBoard was made a system app
minor: added link to this XDA thread
Updated 13 May 2015 (v0.6):
fixed landscape not working for all 3 panels
added options to hide tasks or favs from the main panel to give more room to another list
increased spacing between items somewhat
fixed running task list being empty on the main panel
Task list: Android has removed access to running tasks for regular apps since Lollipop (5). However, if your device is rooted then you can make EdgeBoard a system app and this will remove this limitation. How to do that is described in the app's preferences screen. Unless you do that, refresh button won't work and task list will be always empty.
Feature suggestions:
- see why folders don't work
- show status icons like on the statusbar (signal, etc.)
- (automatically refresh task list) - done in 0.8
- (see why Dialer/Phone app isn't available in fav list) - Phone is actually part of Contacts, it's not a separate app with a separate launcher - added button in 0.75
- (drag-reorder favorite items) - done in 0.75
- (horizontal list scrolling in landscape) - wontfix - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76190042&postcount=32

Fantastic panel.

This is one of/the only big problem of this panel. I am yet to set up some service or alerter to automatically refresh it. As of now the panel doesn't refresh it at all but you can do that manually by expanding the task list of the panel (click on the "stack" icon above the list) and hitting on the refresh button there.
The panel was just approved on Samsung GALAXY Apps, I will keep it updated there so I recommend you reinstall it from the store and then update it from time to time waiting until I figure how to properly handle the running task list. Other than this the panel is finished.

OK, I noticed another thing, If I swap between two apps calling them from EdgeBoard Preferred panel, they swap slowly than using the normal preferred panel.
I hope I'm clear.
It's like every time I click on icon app on EdgeBoard panel, a new instance is created instead of calling that present in memory.

Nice. Very useful app.
Icons seem a bit close together vertically. Any way to get some more space between them, as I keep hitting the wrong one. Or alternatively make them a bit smaller?
On road map, any plans for folders or drag and drop to reorder icons?

Hey guys, just a quick note. I've got some valuable feedback about this (here and elsewhere), I'm aware of bugs around the task list in latest Galaxy Apps version and I'll be fixing them soon.
@arbit12 I'll add a setting to tweak the look of the main panel including the distance between the icons (I've crammed them together so 5 icons fit but that's probably not everyone's choice).

fixed landscape not working for all 3 panels

Download updated APK from the first post. Samsung Store is being slow so it'll be some time before they roll out the new version.

Great app. Ty for taking the time to do this i appreciate it very much

Re-arrange
Thanks for a great edge panel! Nice work! The only thing i miss is the possibility to re-arrange the icons/programs. I noticed that it might be a future function and I keep my fingers crossed that you have the energy to fix it. But again, thank you!

Hi. Sorry I am a bit of o noob. This is an app only for Note Edge? I've installed it on my Note 4 and nothing happened. I enter in App put some preferences, but what from there? Thank you and excuse me if I am annoyng.

This is by far my most used edge app. I greatly appreciate the work done on it.

Good app but need some more work
Great upp idea but the icons looks very small and when i touch one of them some time ti goes to another app
please in next update make icons a bigger in size and wider panel

edgeboard another major problem
The app can't pay pass the lock screen and open the app directly you have to unlock the screen manually each time.
can you plz fix it .

Is this still in development?
fundaprob,I wanted to know if you were ccontinuing development on this great project.
I would love to see the issues you outlined addressed and solved.
If you aren't planning on updating it, then is the source code anywhere if one might want to pick it up?
Sorry if these are obvious and dumb, but I really love this panel and I want to have a project to focus my attention on.
Thanks,
Zuffle

HEy, If I have my phone in landscape mode, I can't see my battery percentage...? Please can you fix it?

Hey guys, I'm back.
Nice to see some people are still using my panel. Nobody happened to make an improved version in this entire time?

The panel width is fixed by Samsung, I can't change it. So I can't make icons bigger without cropping them (they're square). That's as much space as I could use.

This is impossible due to security. If you put file manager on the fav list and somebody gets your locked phone they can pretty much mess it up with that file manager without having to unlock. So Android won't let you do anything except using the camera in a limited way.
HEy, If I have my phone in landscape mode, I can't see my battery percentage...? Please can you fix it?

It's impossible due to limited screen space. There's the iconic indicator with ~25% step so you can generally get an idea of how drained your battery is.

Yes, yes and probably yes. I'm planning to finish the project by fixing those bugs soon. I'll probably put up the source code as well.
This was a draft project I did in maybe 2 days right after getting hold of my new Edge and I'm surprised nobody made a better version yet (or did someone?), it's simple and essential to Edge if you have a few days on your hands.

EdgeBoard is my new home screen
This app is nice! My home screen now has 3 icons. The ones I use all the time are on EdgeBoard. I'm running Marshmallow on the S6 edge+. The Apps Edge panel has two columns of full size icons. I don't mind the small icons on EdgeBoard. They look better. I have run into a minor issue:
When I edit the EdgeBoard panel settings, should I be able to add apps directly to it? Or can I only show apps on that panel by editing the Favorites panel and enabling "show favs on EdgeBoard"?
Changing the apps (favs) on the EdgeBoard panel is tricky. I have to enable the EdgeBoard Favorites panel, edit it, and then use it to make the changes show up. Then I can disable the Favorites panel and just use the EdgeBoard panel.

Obvious tip: Move a shortcut of AltDrawer and replace the old app drawer of your launcher
IMPORTANT, IF YOU'RE ROOT DO THE FOLLOWING:
PREVENT ALTDRAWER FROM CLOSING WHEN IT IS IN BACKGROUND
Move the app to the internal memory before doing this. And recommendable to convert back to user-app (after moving to the internal memory) and reboot before updating.
Click to collapse
Move the apk (once installed) from /data/app/com.xuso.altdrawer.apk to /system/app/
Restart phone.
OR
With Titanium Backup go to Copy/Restore tab, long click on Alt Drawer and select "Convert to system app"
Restart phone.
If you're not root, don't worry you can use the app perfectly too (But you should think about becoming root, it rocks )

Well, tried it on SE Xperia x10 with WB's CM6 TW007 ROM with Custom kernel. it works fine but its very very slow (loading the apps in drawer - once the app drawer is loaded it works like charm). Also, if you can add paged view option in Grid style instead of scrolling that would be awesome.
Very good app but the slowness is concern. Uninstall option in the app drawer itself is the best option.
Thanks,
Chirag

Slow? How many seconds does it take? It takes just 2 seconds first time to my LG P500 (600Mhz OC. @ 748Mhz) Anyway, I'll try to optimize it a little
The paged view is a 'Coming soon...' feature, don't know how soon, but yes, it was in my mind. Added to the list.
Thanks for trying and reporting
For me its not slow. Im on galaxy s.
Perfect app drawer. I liked this very much. I hope you develop soon
those coming soon features.
And i wonder if you can make it import go launcher/adw/openhome themes or icons.
Can you make fancy icon backgrounds too if possible?
Very nice!
Been looking for an alternative app drawer for a while now.
Can't wait for updates
Thanks to both. I'll keep in mind that about icons
Tried it several times, also rebooted the phone and tried again but still same takes me anywhere between 20-25 seconds each time I load.
Good work.

Thanks Xuso!
I appreciate the work you've put into this alternate launcher. I love silly little things like being able to customize the drawer background and the option to switch to list view. The fullscreen option is going to rock!
I have about 50 Apps and it takes about 5 seconds to load. Running Synergy-RC1 on an HTC Evo at 998MHz. I think customizing the wallpaper is what is delaying the load time. I've noticed that setting it to solid black has really done the job of making it instantaneous. Perhaps if you took the image file selected, cached a local copy, and optimized the image for minimal memory then you could minimize delay.
Also, with sense there is no real way to change the app drawer functionality to this program. For now it must be done with a shortcut. Do you have any plans for making a widget out of this? I've always wondered why they didn't just have an "App Drawer" widget that lets you scroll through in list form like yours does.
Overall, very happy with the program. Thank you kindly!
*Edit*
I seemed to have made this a little faster by unchecking the "Show 'Back to Home' Button", if only slightly. Not sure why that would really impact things, but having this launch at the same if not similar speed to the built in drawer is currently what I'm trying to do. If you added a 'keep in memory' option that would help to keep the speed consistent. Thanks.

Have you considered making this a home screen replacement? AFAIK there's not a drawer only launcher out there yet, and I have seen a few requests for one...
Thanks for that great app. It took about 3 seconds to load it at first time. I guess that will make some MIUI users happy.

thanks for the interest,
Strangely, the app isn't easily found in the play store. I'm guessing its not popular enough yet.
The link is under the pictures in the first post.

Those with a Samsung device can download Trigger from the Samsung AppStore for the free version without the six gesture limitation.
Trigger just became even better than it already is!
Now introducing 2 New Panels: NotePad Panel, ClipBoard Panel!
Have you ever seen such a clean and beautiful notepad?
Now its easily one gesture away!
One Tip: For those who don't want to always have the Trigger icon on the screen, you can now switch to using Trigger as a Home Launcher.
Double Tap home to launch the gesture field, there's no need to keep the icon on the screen anymore.
Thank you so muck.

:good:excellent app.. long tym user of trigger.. trigger pulling something that separate this app from hundreds of other gesture based Apps.. few suggestions from my point of view.. it will be handful if there is additional pull direction like southeast, northeast, southwest and northwest direction.. And also need additional SPL actions like back button simulation, kill task. kill all task, menu similar to aokp ROMs and lmt launcher app.. ..glad if they make into oncoming update..
Perhaps one of the best apps I've seen in quite a while. Seriously well done, from looking fantastic to being fantastic.
One constructive criticism, perhaps change the gesture panel enabler icon. Or allow us to choose another one. I personally wouldn't mind a simple grey translucent triangle that i could position in the top left corner of the screen. Unobtrusive and not unsightly at all.

Are you talking about the trigger icon?
Changing the appearance is actually a feature of the paid version.

one of the best apps, good job
must admit.. its a brilliant start... testing the app now...
one thing i noticed... If i keep the icon in the corner, like suppose the middle screen right corner then the swipe right option doesnt work..
similarly if its at the edge, like bottom right then the swipe right and swipe down options dont work
keeping the icon in the middle of the screen kinda defeats the purpose of it being unobtrusive .. just an opinion
(im on nova launcher with grid layout set to 6 x 4)

I'm afraid that's not something I can fix if the icon is placed in the corner or sides.
It's a trade off for putting them in certain locations.
Personally I keep mine close to the side, but with enough distance to still activate the actions.
However, maybe the next update will help.
Next update includes pulling the trigger in 8 directions! 4 more quick actions to work with, so it might make putting it to the side or corners more agreeable.

What's the battery drain like on this app? If it runs constantly on top of all apps, must be noticeable?

Barely any battery drain at all. The only part that runs on top off all apps is just the tiny icon. Nothing else runs unless you touch it.
You can think of it as just your app containing one additional image and even if you leave it there, it won't affect the battery.
Unless you choose to change the icon to display the time or battery instead. Then it's more active and might affect the battery a little bit.

Problem with the app
Hallo.
I've bought your app for my Galaxy Note 2.
At the beginning it worked but after few configuration it started to abort and at the moment it is impossible to use it.
Is there any known bug for Note 2?
Is it possible to have a working release?
Thank you.

Hello, I've tried this app, awesome work and it seems to be extremely customizable.
However I can't think of a reason how this app can replace gmd, is it clipboard/note function?
Maybe you can emphasize on the differences to increase appeal of this app

[APP][2.2+] Simple TimeSheet | v 2.2.0 | 6-12-2013

Brand new app developer here. This is my first app. The app is free (though at some point I'd like to have an ad-supported / pro version).
LATEST UPDATE:
Ver. 2.2.0
----------
- LONG OVERDUE UPDATE!
- ADDED MANUAL ENTRY IN THE TIMESTAMPS PAGE!!! Just click the plus button in the top right corner of the project's timestamp page.
- Fixed issue with editing the check out times of timestamps!
- Fixed crash for new users who have no projects and attempt to access the the metrics pages. You must add projects to access those pages.
App can be found in the Google play market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simpletimesheet
I would appreciate ANY feedback!
Thanks,
Justin
Ive been through a lot (at least all the free ones) of time sheet/ time tracking apps, and none of them really have everything I'm looking for... but it looks like this one covers just about everything I need. I'll keep you posted on my opinion of it as I use it, thanks again

What did you like specifically about this app? Let me know if there are any features you'd like to see, or if there are any interface issues that are bothering you!
Hi Justin,
I haven't been able to put your app through real-world use so I hope my following feedback helps in some regard.
I'm thinking of getting rid of the check in/delete buttons in favor of a click/click&hold context menu on each project row (where clicking anywhere in the row would check in or check out, and click&hold would have options like rename, delete, other). I want to keep the app simple and streamlined. Your thoughts?

I think another option instead of the tap&hold is to implement the triangle on the right as in the Google Music app, that way it is visually intuitive.
Having a tap to check-in might be "difficult" for users to figure out. Maybe use a checkbox and highlight the row when they have checked in?
The date at the top is in a textview which is a bit deceptive since it cannot be edited, BUT good idea to auto fill that field.
The large ADD PROJECT button is good and makes sense.
I like that every option is on one screen and one can create a project in just a couple taps (excluding key presses).
I think the View Project Reports should be moved from the overflow menu and placed in the ActionBar.
Since the Weekly Project Reports screen is a separate activity there should be an up affordance in the top-left (App icon with a left-pointing arrow) to return to the main activity.
The first time you open the Weekly Project Reports the date textfield does not auto-populate with the current date; that also should be changed to a button of some kind.
This may be stretching it, but instead of the date picker dialog box you could use a month style picker, like the one in Business Calendar. I know Google implemented a numberpad in their updated Clock app for their time picker in Android 4.2. Did they do something similar with dates?
I think the state of the Decimal Format checkbox should be saved when the user leaves the Weekly Project Reports screen and restored when they view it at a later time.
Really cool idea on the landscape layout for the main activity!
The Generate Email Report should be put into the ActionBar as the Share icon, but I'm sure you're already working on that.
I don't think the Really Exit? dialog is necessary. It may scare the user in thinking that they forgot to click a save button.
AndroidDevelopers on YouTube are a group of Google developers and designers that take a technical in-depth look at Android apps nominated by their viewers and developers themselves. I'd recommend watching their series as they give some helpful tips on implementing certain things in your code, correct design patterns, and their Android Design in Action show, where they show Holo redesign mockups of Android apps, is pretty awesome. You can even nominate your app to be reviewed.

I'll look into the triangle menu.
The date at the top is in a textview which is a bit deceptive since it cannot be edited, BUT good idea to auto fill that field.
I was trying to maintain some symmetry in the GUI. If I can find something that looks better, I'll change it. A textview doesn't look right with the Project name editor underneath
The large ADD PROJECT button is good and makes sense.

GOOD CALL! I'm not familiar with using that, but it looks like the proper way to go.
Since the Weekly Project Reports screen is a separate activity there should be an up affordance in the top-left (App icon with a left-pointing arrow) to return to the main activity.
I'll look into it, but I've never used that feature in any app before. I always use the back button.
The first time you open the Weekly Project Reports the date textfield does not auto-populate with the current date; that also should be changed to a button of some kind.
I purposely leave that blank at start-up so that the "Click to select a Date" hint shows up. If you are suggesting to have a "Select Date" button next to a date textview, that is possible, but I thought the date box was intuitive enough. I'll consider it tho.
This may be stretching it, but instead of the date picker dialog box you could use a month style picker... I know Google implemented a numberpad in their updated Clock app for their time picker in Android 4.2. Did they do something similar with dates?
I think the state of the Decimal Format checkbox should be saved when the user leaves the Weekly Project Reports screen and restored when they view it at a later time.
I need to write/open a config file (or save to the database). It's coming in a future release
Really cool idea on the landscape layout for the main activity!
The Generate Email Report should be put into the ActionBar as the Share icon, but I'm sure you're already working on that.
Have not been working on that, but it's a good idea.
I don't think the Really Exit? dialog is necessary. It may scare the user in thinking that they forgot to click a save button.
I implemented that before I had a SQLite database. It will be removed.
Thanks for the great feedback!
Someone found a bug. Apparently if you click checkIn on a new project, or click the delete button for a project, and then double click "yes" on the pop-up window, the program crashes. I'll have to look into this tonight.

I thought that might be the case. I kind of want to leave work early so I can fix that bug lol... but alas, android development doesn't pay my bills
I've fixed this issue, and I've also prevented users from being able to double-click "Check In" or "X", which would result in 2 separate dialog windows (in the delete case, the second dialog fails on a 2nd yes click since the project no longer exists).
I'll probably be releasing a new version this afternoon. I'd like to see if I can get some additional features in first.
New version released
New version uploaded to the Google Play Market.
Version 1.0.2
-------------
- Fixed bugs involving double-clicking of the CheckIn and Delete buttons.
- Made Sorting Buttons persistent.
- Made Decimal Format button setting persistent.
- Clicking of the "Decimal Format" has significantly better performance now.
- Improved stability when changing the screen orientation from portrait to landscape, or vice-versa. Window Manager was not always returning the current screen orientation (it occasionally returns NULL).
I'm trying to apply gradients to some linearLayout backgrounds. There are 3 texviews in the linearLayout. For some reason if I assign different weights to the 3 textviews, the gradient background dissappears from roughly half of the largest textview (usually occurs as soon as I scroll the view, but it will happen automatically after a second or two).
Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: I figured out the problem. I was using a single instance of the GradientDrawable class for all 3 views... and you have to create a unique gradient for each view, otherwise the exact same shape/size gradient will get applied to those views' backgrounds (this would only work if each view to have the gradient applied was the exact same size).
First Major visual update for TimeSheet (Lite) released!!!
Version 1.1.0
-------------
- Drastically updated the main project screen (Click anywhere on a Project row to check in, and Click&Hold on a Project Row to access that project's menu for name editing and project deletion... more options will be coming in a future release).
- I now use relative layouts to make sure that buttons and project rows utilize the whole screen. Please email me if you are having issues with screen layout on your device.
- More updates soon (such as editing timestamps).
Do you guys like the new interface? Any suggestions?
New Version Released:
Ver. 1.1.2
----------
- BUG FIX (Midnight related. I calculated the time in milliseconds of the beginning and end of the previous day instead of the intended day).
- Implemented the Android action bar (Clickable icons in top-right corner of the app). All menu items will appear in the top-right corner of the screen (such as bringing up the weekly reports screen, or generating an email report).
- Greatly improved the performance of the weekly reports. Reports and email attachments generate MUCH faster now.
- Rearranged Add Project button in portrait mode.
- Active project text is now BOLD.
Another decent sized release:
Ver. 1.1.3
----------
- BUG FIX (Calculation of midnight was still incorrect... UTC instead of the phone's timezone offset)
- Implemented Time Stamp viewer. To view timestamps, click & hold on the project you'd like to view. There is now a new option to "View TimeStamps". In this new screen, Click & hold on any timestamp to bring up a new menu with the option to delete the stamp.
- Next release should contain the ability to EDIT timestamps from the click & hold menu.
Ver. 1.2.0
----------
- Implemented Time Stamp editor. Now you can Click&Hold on a timestamp to delete it, or edit the check-in or check-out times. Ability to add a brand new timestamp from scratch will be coming in a future release.
- BUG FIXES (More Beginning/End of Day fixes related to Time Zones. The main screen is now properly updated automatically when a change of date occurs)

It's kind of funky looking with the contrasting black rows and gray background. The background of the sort row should also be changed to match the rest of the app theme. I like the green gradient; it doesn't look too iOSy, though you may want to do something more Holo-ish like a green outline or glow. I'd recommend checking out other Holo themed apps and see their themes. I think the ADD PROJECT button should be moved to the ActionBar or, if you want to implement something a little different, a TextField row as described in this ADiA video.

I do plan to change the color of the bottom row (with the sort buttons), but I'm not sure in what way yet. My primary concern is keeping a nice consistency with the landscape mode. There is considerably more whitespace in the left panel of landscape mode. I'll repost the screen after I make some more changes.
Nice app thank you, it would be nice if we could completely customize the colors...

Contact Searches will be nice i guess, really helps the elderly with their T9 recognition Gonna subscribe!
Its very good, very smooth. You hace just cleared my homescreen of lots of apps. The only thing left in my homescreen are Dial an App, Browser, Google Maps and Iron Man 3.
Aesthetic wise, I feel like it needs more improvement, but hey, thats only graphical part. the core part is flawless.
Suggestion: Perhaps user will be able to 'dial up' settings? You know, like going directly to the WiFi settings, or directly to storage setting to eject USB on the go, or more importantly turning on the USB debugging inside the developer mode. I'm sure this will be a major request. Although you should also add a setting whether to enable dialing up shorcut settings or not, not all people want it.
Suggestion: I guess you need to add a setting page if you want to corporate more feature, as most people want to use certain feature and dont want to use certain feature.
Idea: There are some people that hide certain app and dont want people to see it, I guess it will be a bad situation if your app shows their hidden app.
Great app, will they be a paid version? Not a fan of the ads, would give a couple bucks to get rid of them!
Sent from my Nexus 7
Yes there will be an ad-free paid version as soon as I integrate contact search and a few other features in the upcoming version.
Keep the feed backs coming, helps me make this better and better.
What about apps with space in their name? The current version dont have any space input.
I suppose you wouldn't have to type the words after the space as , as soon as you are type the first word i.e the one before the space you will have that app in the grid already, for example: typing "Google" will give u "Google Play", " Google Music" , "Google Music" etc already on scren making it easier to choose, also you can easily type just the word after the space like "Music" that will give you "Google Music" too thereby saving an additional button press for "space"
correct me if I am wrong.
Interesting app. I have a couple of suggestions on how to improve it more:
The app shouldn't show up in recent apps, as people will probably access it through a shortcut and use it to launch other apps
It would be better user experience if the dialer was drawn over your current app, instead of using your wallpaper as a background -- this would give a more fluid app launching and changing experience instead of the current feeling of being taken away from your current activity
It would be nice to be able to change the app icon grid and icon sizes -- some people will want fewer but bigger icons, some people will prefer longer list with smaller icons
Since there's quite a lot of screen space for listing the apps, you could implement (an optional) row of recently launched/recently used apps. I think a lot of users are really just switching between 4-5 most common apps and this would make the interaction faster.
In addition, there could be an option to pin a favorite app(s)
Lastly, it's not at all obvious how one can change the keypad colors (long-press on clear seems to do it), and you are left wondering if there are other settings available as well (like changing the grid size)
Like I said, the app looks great and works well too.

I wasn't aware, I'll have to check, however Dial an App is soon going to be a complete Dialer and a part of my upcoming Homescreen launcher, you can give it a try and see for yourself all the features. Your feedback will be appreciated.
You know, I'm a right handed. My phone screen size is 4.7 inch diagonal. The situation now is that, after there's only one app left in the screen, its all the way at the top left, which is quite a stretch for my thumb. You might even have problem with this yourself. So I was thinking maybe after one app has left, the app will be highlighted (somehow) and brought to the center, that would be better I think. or maybe you can just touch anywhere on the screen and it will launch that app. Or just add another button that will launch that one app left standing.
You konw, this reminds me of Ubuntu OS, which is quite similar. Maybe you take insperation from these? My point is, after a few letter, the app that you want might be the first app in the list, so you can just tap a button and it will launch the first app in the selection. Of course for me, I feel it will be better if the app selection there will have some sort of popularity calculation to determine which one comes first, kind of like when you type iin the address bar in Firefox, most frequently visited site will appear first in the list.

Awesome app. Saves you some time.

If you have like a hell lot of apps on your phone, this is the app the one you'd expect to save you some great amount of time. Would love to see further updates and appreciate your work. Subscribed.
Awesome app and a great idea! Can't wait for the paid version!
One small request - can you make a widget out of it? This would be an awesome full screen widget to replace my standard home screen (or maybe put it a page over from the home screen).
Contact Search would be awsome man!

Yes there will be an ad-free paid version as soon as I integrate contact search and a few other features in the upcoming version.
Keep the feed backs coming, helps me make this better and better.

Glance Screen improvements, gesture and screen calibration in development?

In the settings there are some hidden activities of debugging, testing and experimental settings for the Glance Screen.
As you can see from the screenshots below, they would allow to change the backlight, the number of notifications to be displayed (four or six), the activation delay, the style of the screen, add new apps (still very few) to the usual three and have an extended view of events in program.

Actually, they appear to be only screens without management code, since nothing seems to work, except for the debugging settings in the fourth screen. Those actually affect the backlighting of the screen and the white tone of the characters (but could simply be related to the variation of backlighting).
As for the gesture, there are activities (not working) to activate the gesture on the fingerprint reader, to manage the virtual navigation bar (these should not affect the Nokia 8, since it has capacitive keys) and to switch from rear camera to front and viceversa with a double twist (in this case it's an empty activity with only the title, for this I don't put the screenshot):
They could simply be stock code residuals, but for the gestures on the fingerprint reader there is the animation of what appears to be a Nokia 7 (or one of the new Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco or 9), while for the gesture to emulate the navigation keys, I've never seen similar ones. From animations and descriptions it's clear that, when you hide the navigation bar, you can go back with a swipe upward in the bottom left; to home with a swipe upward in the bottom center and a swipe upward on bottom right for recent apps (iPhone X style ).
Finally this seems to be a screen to choose a different color profile, but it doesn't seem to work, so it may very well be a residual stock software not implemented:
I found these activities in the Android 8.1 beta for Nokia 8, I don't know if they are also present in the stable build of Android 8. It seems that something is actually in development, like the Glance, while the rest could be customizations for the chinese ROM of the Nokia 7, or maybe something in the making for new devices cooming soon.
If you want to browse or find other "news", it's all reachable by creating shortcuts to these activities using the appropriate Nova widget. You can find these among the System UI and Settings activities (.keyguard.glance.testing.GlanceSettingsActivityForTesting, .keyguard.glance.PrimaryNotificationIndicatorsSettings, .keyguard.glance.NotificationIndicatorsMainSettings, .keyguard.glance.GlanceStyleSettingsActivity, .Setting$DoubleTwistSuggestionActivity, .Settings$SwipeToNotificationSuggestionActivity, .Settings$SoftkeySettingsActivity, .Settings$NavigationBarSettingsActivity, .Settings$ScreenModeActivity) .
If you decide to take a look, pay attention to what you do, because starting certain activities could make the device unusable. For example, by starting the activity of FQC, a tool used to test and approve the units in production, it will be extremely difficult to exit, the shutdown and forced reboot of the device is also inhibited (hmd should remove it from the final software, but if I'm not mistaken, it was also present in the stable build of Android 8).
Do it at your own risk.
Even if it doesn't do anything yet it still gave me a bit of hope about the glance screen. Nice findings

I tested it here, there are no options other than adjusting screen brightness of glance.
(default 8.0)

So, if in Android 8 are absent most of those Activity, it means that something is actually in development, hopefully. We'll know more with the next beta, maybe coming with the february security patches in a few days.

EDIT: here the animation of the gestures usable in the future Nokia devices (maybe), when the virtual navigation bar will be hidden (it's a gif, click on it to open and see it):

It would be really nice if they add the following to the Glance Screen options:
1. Option to auto disable after 5 and 15 minutes
2. Option to change color of the text (red, green, grey, blue) at selectable start/stop date

It didn't offer me anything like this. The first setup I did that it had Android 7.1.1 and the august security patches.

You had to be quick to spot it, it was in the bit where you are doing the initial set up, it was before the phone was up and running and doing things like installing patches.
Hi
Is it possible to disable the timeout so that the glance sreen is always on?
Hope it's real , current glance not too useful

Hi, there are some updates about the improved Glance.
On the Nokia 8 Sirocco there is the new and improved Glance screen, I don't know why on our Nokia 8 there is still the old one and the new is present only as testing activities.
If you see this post on the italian Nokioteca community there are some screens of the settings of the new Glance, with the different styles and the always-on in the timing settings (but the Sirocco has an OLED display).
The owner of the Sirocco, un_padovano, also confirms that all apps are supported for notifications, not only the few of the old one or experimental version.
No way to see WhatsApp notification on glance screen , is real shi t
