Do you know any completely different rom? Like miui for example! Lately I really get tired of roms that are just cleaned from bloatwares and everything else is same as the stock. Is it only miui and cyanogen that brings us original new futures? I wonder what is so custom and they call it custom rom. Is it so hard to take notification bar down or anything else and make it different and really custom? They must be sorted as custom and modified roms at least. Many of them are shown in screenshots with themes that not appear anyhow after flash. All we got is - + some apps and endless flashing process just to get back to our favorite. Really if some devs read my appeal please think about it. I am not sure but I guess is not impossible to add functions that stock roms don't have. Even if they seem not so usual surely will be appreciated. If someone know roms that are really different please let me know. Thanks!

After all, Android is Android, so you won't escape the notifications or the must-have apps (settings, etc.) The really only thing you can do is design an app that replaces the entire lockscreen, settings, laucher, app drawer, etc. To make it a ROM only feature would be .... a lot of work for nothing (as you can simple extract the APK and well... pirate it.
So ROMs are basically a window to the heart of the creator. It's their style, their apps, their child
R: Any completely different rom
Try paranoid android ROM, as far as i know it's the most customizable and you can use "tablet mode" to move the notification bar down etc.

Hey,
I've still got my forum training wheels on, and so I'll just put this Q here (rather than the directly related thread).
I've seen a few people ask this, but haven't yet found a conclusive answer.
I use my TF with this ROM and think it's great, not had any issues to speak of. However, I did love the HC/ICS (4.1) screen layout, where the notifications were in the bottom right along with the clock etc. There was no status bar at the top and Nav buttons were in the lower left. My question is... Is it possible to get this back, whilst still using the 4.2 ROM?
Hopefully somebody knows the answer....
I understand that this would require 4.1 launcher to be ported to 4.2, but I could be wrong.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I have that tablet running that ROM, but I've gotten used to 4.2 and haven't looked for a way to change it.
You should ask this in the TF101 forums.
I'm not sure how much a launcher could really do, but I'd Google "get back tablet layout in 4.2" or something to start checking it out on my own.
I'm not sure this is that easy. I use Apex launcher on that tablet and ROM and the layout doesn't change. I'm thinking that's a deeper layer than a launcher works with. I think you'd need a ROM with that baked in.

Hi Pennycake,
Thanks for the reply!
I've done lots of forum and Google hunting, but had little success...!
I've no grumbles using the phablet style layout. I just think that it was neater having everything on the navbar (tablet style).
I'll keep on looking and maybe stumble over something.
Cheers
Impossible...!?
So this is looking like it's not really possible without work being done to the SystemUI.
Withing the Eos Control Centre (This comes as part of the TeamEOS 4 ROM for TF101), there is a tablet option, but this leaves the status bar at the top.
I'll keep digging, but i won't hold my breath!!
Case closed...
Sweeeetttt...!!!
News just in...

Well yeah, we still have the code for tabletUI in EOS4 too.
Just that it has not been updated at all and is completely out of sync with all the EOS specific modifications, so most likely will crash.
But I might have a look at either bringing TabletUI back or implementing a new navbar from scratch to go with the phabletui.
That way we get rid of the navbar lag.
I'm also hopping that having to dig through the code even more with cornerstone, I could spot something.
But I've been thinking more and more about rewriting part of the window manager.
The original google code is Sh*t, and the more I look at it the more I come to the conclusion that PhabletUI is not made to work correctly on big screen / tablets.
On top of that code there's the EOS customizations which just make things more complex.
With cornerstone it's adding another spaghetti layer on top of the google spaghetti pile.
So yeah *headache*.
But yep I would say that the way PA has done it and rewriting part of the window manager & policy is the good approach.
Maybe I'll just resume work on Phubuntu instead too, and make a real multiboot that doesn't require flashing all the time.
We might benefit more from that, and it will have multiwindow support
Ahh so many things and so little time ;P

Problems with nightly ROM 111
I have a TF101 and finally decided to root and install the JB ROM. I started with EOS JDQ39 Nightly 108 and gapps_4.2.2_TF101_20130323b. This worked fine but when I updated to the nightly 111 I noticed that I Google play was not working. I would click on the app and it would start to load but disappear. It appears that I am not logged in anymore because gmail does not work either. I have tried to delete data from the gmail app and google play store from settings but the did not work. I have tried installing gapps again. Does not work. I tried another gapps, gapps-jb-20130301-signed and that just freezes my tablet on the EeePad screen.
Any ideas on how to get signed in on the tablet without a factory reset?
Well considering we have a good month to actually play with our phones before any real custom development begins, we could use this time to come up with ideas that would be great to have on custom ROM's specifically for the Galaxy S4. I myself believe the next two years are gonna be insane and month is nothing compared to the fun we are all about to have!
So let's hear, what do you want your GS4 to do that it can't do right now. I personally would like to see someone make use of air wave more effectively and air view.
I just want some SlimBean love.
4.2.2. Stock. That's all I want.
I want to be able to change themes on my phone with EASE!
Mass delete of the 14.7 million crapware apps that come pre-installed....
just to be able to mod the hell out of it battery, clock, wifi, themes etc.....have kick ass kernal with kick ass battery life...
Cyanogen.
a lag reduction of 290%
I'm going to be developing a slimmed down Touchwiz rom with an AOSP feel but keep the TW framework for camera and other misc features. Samsung does add quite a few software enhancements that are nice to have that AOSP will break.

This is what I can't wait for
Ongoing Wifi Notification removed and change the Phone dialer from the playskool looking white to dark theme. Other than that I am happy with TW till we get AOSP...:highfive:

Exactly what I was hoping for. There's no point in buying a phone with so many "exclusive features" and immediately flashing CM and having the exact same user experience you had on your last phone. I mean, do I love AOSP? Of course I do. But why not try to get the best of both worlds? Can't wait for it, akira!

Keep stock touchwiz with aosp speed, also in the notification switches, the ability for flashlight, and play and next media buttons, also thumbs up/down button if possible

I am generally happy with my S4. Screen is great, the features I am interested in, Navigation, Translation (sTranslate), tethering ( I am on the plan), Bluetooth, and many others working. I am waiting until my 2 week return period is over before rooting and then debloating. I am using Nova launcher and have had no problems with lag. I did find that the home button with the smaller lower bezel than my SIII sometimes causes me to hit one of the dock icons; will require getting used to. Here is what I don't like and would like to see change:
1.The phone dialer. the white is awful
2. Contacts. Also in white, awful
3. Battery icon. Would love to be able to change it.
4. I personally like the 4.1 lockscreen with weather and time. I installed dashclock and used that a one of my Lockscreen widgets but still am not happy. I would love to see the opportunity to change the lockscreen style and type.
I am sure that I will find others, but that is it for now.
All Samsung features with the look & customization of AOKP, PA, Rootbox or Xylon.
idea of the year right here
and i can't believe it wasn't implemented by samsung and shown off at all the demos..
almost every website on the net today incorporates hovering the mouse to expand menus, show list options, features, toggle content, etc
this i would argue is THE biggest shortcoming of not just android, but all mobility today. there's no solid solution to imitate this on a mobile phone.
the galaxy s4 is the first phone which can overcome this shortcoming with its ability to support scree hovering. but what did Samsung choose to implement instead? a zoom in option baked into their stock browser .. which they removed flash support for, crippling one of the biggest breakthroughs in mobile innovation we've seen yet.
any developer who implements this will make front page of xda for sure

Extended desktop mode, the status bar takes up to much screen real estate. Pie controls love them on my nexus 4!
Id love to be able to re-map the double-click of the home button. More options to edit toggles. No need to have that many toggles Im never going to use. Dark themes throughout UI. More apps that can be utilized in Multi window. Using the calculator with the browser or banking apps for example. Swipe the status bar for brightness control, no need to have the slider taking up space in the notification drawer. Swipe between tabs on phone app, same in any other tabbed touchwiz apps. Let me use Wallet dammit!
Love the idea of AOSP/touchwiz mashup. There actually are some features Id like to keep. Too bad Samsung's design team is still stuck on Gingerbread aesthetics...
Remote
A cool feature would be a timed t.v. remote to go off say at 6:30 to wake me up for school
Some PA love would be ideal! DPI changes are necessary with this awesome screen! Plus PIE and Halo would be awesome to have! Oh and remapping of hw buttons is a must for me.

Planned eventually... we've just been insanely busy with other stuff. Also, we're discussing the possibility of using an alternate theme manager such as the one from ChameleonOS.
Not sure yet.
Someone did submit the beginnings of a port of the T-Mobile theme chooser to Gerrit but I don't think it was actually working at that time.

Chameleon's is a derivative of the MIUI theme engine.

Oh I haven't used Chameleon OS, I might take a look (assuming there's a Nexus 5 ROM).
Sounds like you guys have it in the pipeline either way.

Yup I was working on it....
I picked commits, fixed conflicts and squashed 'em
It clashed with another OmniROM feature regarding reboot from CM picked by you AFAIK. A possible fix to it leads to a bootloop
But then again am no big guy... Patches are in abandoned tab in Gerrit . Pick 'em and fix 'em and be the boss!
Superb ROM !
Something new ?
What can we expect in the future ?
Hopefully this is not abandoned.
I realize omni dev's are busy with the core feature, whilst there's no submit about theme in gerrit or github anymore, hopefully it's on progress.
There's been a bit of discussion about this. xplodwild is reasonably convinced that the old t-mobile theme engine when combined with all of KitKat's rendering pipeline changes leads to performance issues.
Admittedly it's very prone to placebo, but a wide variety of people on multiple devices keep on telling him that Omni's UI seems much more responsive than CM's. This shouldn't be the case because we're honestly behind in terms of merging various performance optimizations (we're paranoid about testing and ninjamerges) - and the most likely possible reason why it might be the case is theme chooser. Or it's just psychology causing people to think it's faster when it's not.

@Entropy512
Couldn't you implement a masterswitch to enable/disable themechooser? For example for me ui customization is a key feature and i think there are many other people out there, that would like to use omni, but use cm11 based ROMs because of the theme chooser. There's such a big base of great themes! I can not understand why omni team leaves that out because of a little loss of performance. I couldn't feel a recognizable difference between omni and the cm11 remix i use. Both are smooth and snappy! I really like your concept, community based and not company based like cm11, but i'll stay with cm11 remixes until omni has a theme solution where i can use my personal themes and the other themes i like. Well i'm only one person, but i thnik i'm not alone with this opinion. Please find a solution for theming soon. Not TRDS only please.
An idea i have for launching apps in a multiwindow if it's ready: You've that cool omniswitch, why not using it for launching apps in multiwindow mode, too?! For example if you just tap on an icon (recents, or favourites) it launches in fullscreen mode. If you tap to an app and swipe up it opens in top multiwindow, if you tap and swipe down in bottom window. Paired with a cool animation and the planned mutliwindow implementation xplodwild posted on your homepage, that could be very nice?!

I don't think a switch is possible for this since it will loaded at boot at applied system wide. Yes, i agree that it could be a key feature.
Its pity to see some people are using MIUI or CM only for themes.

That would be a nice thing. Ideally we'd figure out a way that it simply doesn't have a negative impact on performance in the first place. My guess is that something changed in KK's rendering pipeline that doesn't get along nicely with the (rather OLD) T-Mo theme engine.
I'm not sure - UI stuff isn't my thing.
eagerly waiting

i am eagerly waiting for this feature to come into the rom.... because the rom is very limited from the customization point of view....anyways this will be the best rom i am sure....
i can vouch that OMNI is probably the most fastest and stable ROM i have used..used it last a month ago
the main reason i left it is"theme chooser"..I (and most i guess) will be more than happy to trade a bit of performance for theme engine.
I won't. I don't want to trade performance for theme engine.
for the eager waiters (fatal English fail?) out there, doesn't xposed have a theme module?
Yes, there are hkthemechooser and xthemeengine, but using them is a real big loss of performance! I've tried hkthemechooser, because it applies cm themes without converting them. With bigger, more complete themes, it is slow as hell. Not comperable to the themechooser where i can not feel any performance loss! And both xposed engines leave out several things the themechooser themes. Especially bad for dark themes that change font colors and so on! For me it's no alternative to the themechooser. I'll stay on ROMs having themechooser until omni guys have an engine that could apply themechooser themes.

Performance is the only reason i still use cm.
Seems like "what's the best rom" is not a helpful question...not even "what's the best rom for battery life/speed/etc" because there are too many variables and people use their phones differently under different conditions.
So, I'd like to know - what's your favorite rom is for the Photon Q, and why?
My favorite is CM 11, because of speed and because swipe-down status bar & tiles are super useful. It's also updated frequently, so hopefully I can get more out of the phone as time goes on.
Thoughts?
i like the mokee rom most, i tryed it because its the only rom for xt897 that support REAL multi-window
the new love was born. there are much features and better then in cm. an other part i love is the lockscreen notification
u can use the black ActiveDisplay feature like moto x. but the accu prefomance is also great. there is nothing i miss.
its really the best only the update function suck ;D
there are constant updates its on 4.4.4 jbbl
