I am using a 8Gb OTG Pen Drive from Sandisk. It works flawlessly. Use file manager (preferably ES Explorer) to access the drive after inserting it.
Is this stable. ?

I've a Xoom MZ604 US WIFI ONLY , with rooted android 3.2 and tiamat kernel 2.0 . I tried to use an external USB drive ( various pen and HD ) but without success.
I try with USB Watcher ( both version ) and DRIVE MOUNT , but nothing .
The xoom doesnt't recognize or mount the drive.
Someone have a solution ?
Thanks

Did you reboot while the drive is connected? And of course, are you using a tested usbOTG cable?
Had you been able to connect/use the drives on HC3.1?

I tried to reboot with stick connected , but nothing !
I received the cable yesterday ... after the update to 3.2 , so i don't know if the USB stick works with 3.1.
mmmmmh... about the "tested cable" ... mine is not a cable but an adaptor ... and i hope it works
i can't get mine to work either. Using the same things you are. I have the official motorola cable for it. Never rooted in 3.1, didn't root til 3.2, so no idea if it would have worked then. I am wondering if it is the kernel that is causing this issue. Cause i have seen others post of the same problems with this kernel... Relly wanted this to be working. Go into the hospital thursday for surgery, be in there a week. Wanted to be able to load files off thumb and portable HDs to watch movies on. Can't do either now
Working Now
I initially had the same issue with my USB drive. I then pulled the usb drive out of my "official Motorola OTG cable" then plugged it back in and it now works well. Backed up by SD card to my USB drive . . . no problem.

If you can update to the new Tiamat Manta Ray rom you will be guaranteed to have usbOTG function with the free USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG app. It's now working like a charm with the Motorola OTG "camera kit" adapter.
i m in rooted 3.2 with tiamat stock gpu kernel, can i mount any usb memory drives via otg? how should i do it? thx

Yes! You need an OTG cable, such as the Motorola Camera Connection Kit. There are others available for less money, but you have to make sure it's really OTG, because it has a different pin configuration.
In addition, you may need to use one of two free apps to help mount the drive--USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG, or Drive Mount.
I've found that it may help to reboot with the drive plugged in (at least the first time).
With this set-up you can use a thumb drive or a large HDD.
My Xoom is fine but my friend bought one and he cant otg with 3.2 unless he roots, right? ... The toshiba does otg out of the box. This was his major buying point. Anyone know why xoom m doesnt yet others will? And yes, he has otg cable.

I tried both of them n failed in both
The drive mount requires busybody. But after installed it, the drive mount apps keep DC.. couldn't use at all
And for the USB mass watcher, when i launch it it asked me to download the latest version, but the latest version isn't compatible with 3.2
What should i do now =(

I'm not certain if an unrooted Xoom can really access OTG/usb host mode. People say that, but I have been rooted from the start, so I never tested it out.
But i can't even download it from market @@
I jhave it now butkeep fc . Argh
Yeah, I have been rooted since day one as well, so I was unsure of the stock 3.2...

Are you sure you have an OTG cable?
Also, what are you trying to connect? Some people have had issues with thumb drives but not with an HDD.

Does it dim or does it crash? If it dims and you can't do anything, try turning the Xoom (like from landscape to portrait), with auto-rotate enable, and if a dialog box opens, choose an action.
If it is crashing, can you try an HDD like a Passport?
not dim nor crash. The device just suddenly go black n have to boot up

rakeshz, play store says stick mount app is not supported on my phone.
[email protected], thanx for ur suggestion. usb mouse/keyboard and pen drives work but by 500GB usd HDD does not get detected. I am also facing another issue, when I unmount the pen drive and remove it from the OTG cable, I get the error: "android.process.media has stopped" and after that nothing gets detected until I restart my phone.
External HDDs require additional power so most don't work. However make sure you the memory device is on FAT32. If you are on NTFS, use binaries provided in the description of stick mount on google play.
How to mount external HDD , i found one tutorial but i didn't know anything about xoom.

I check on GSMarena.com , Xperia SP doesn't have USB on-the-go (OTG) ,
but on storage settings , it can mount flash drive by default.
Have you tried mounting a Flash Drive before? Or maybe voltage issues?

you can always try..:good:
but do you know weather your device hardware supports it?
First mention your device and you can mount only If your device supports otg
So make sure your device supports otg or not
If it supports then try connecting a pendrive with a otg cable and then try with hdd

And you don't have to enable usb otg manually just connect otg cable and then device that you want to connect.

But every time i connect the otg cable and a flash drive, it pops up in the notification saying that USB storage is safe to remove. And i cant find device in the folders i'm using root explorer. I check it on sdcard and on the internal and i cant find it, so it means that my phone cant read it. Am i right? Thanks.

I can only assume not many users are actually using mass storage devices. Which is a supprise given the storage limitations.
