Now i dont know if any of you have this problem, i havent read about it anywhere else i think. i'm using lollipop in my n5, i had this issue with stock lollipop and now also on xtrasmooth.
the problem was, that after unlocking the device by swiping up, there was a considerable lag between you seeing your homescreen and being able to interact with the app icons you have on it. The home, back and taskswitcher button are not affected by this. what i could do it unlock the device and instantly start tapping on the screen where an app shortcut it. it would take nearly 1 second of continous tapping until the app shortcut reacted. same for swiping - after unlocking i instantly start swiping left and right, but it took nearly 1 second until i get a reaction. the screen just wouldnt react to any input for a second.
i was just randomly changing settings in the developer options. i found that the animator duration scale is the culprit for this. set if to "off" and the lag is gone completely.
i have it set to .5 now and its ok. i suppose there still is a lag with .5, but its so short you wont really notice.
had it on 1 and 2 before which will give you a noticable lag. setting it to 10 will give you (well, me at least) a lag of nearly 4-5 seconds until the screen responses after unlocking.
alright, i just wanted to share this in case any of you have the same issue.
TL;DR: try setting the animator duration scale to a lower value if you have a lag after unlocking your device.
Actually reducing the animation & duration is not a real fix.
But I know that the ambient display and ambient trigger sensors were a reason of such lag. idk if it has been fixed though.

well, reducing the animator duration reduces the lag, up to the point where the lag just doesnt exist anymore when the animator duration is turned off. so i think this is a fix. maybe not a real solution, only a workaround.

Just installed the latest official Android Pie. Here is a list of things that I have noticed for the pass 24hrs. Oneplus 6 A6000 6GB/64GB.
Battery Life
There is no significant battery improvement or deterioration. Still getting approx. 4hrs30mins SOT with 60% WiFi, 40% Mobile Data most of the time.
Performance
There is no significant speed boost or lag, the phone still behaves the same as Android Oreo. Transitions between apps is still snappy. Using the in-house navigation gesture, I don't like the pill type navigation buttons.
Heat Generation
No significant heating issue, the phone does not warm up while using Facebook/Instagram and gaming on Brawl Stars. I can't comment anything about playing PUBG with it. No heating issues when charging while using it. I don't use my phone under a hot sun, so no comment on that.
Charging Speed
No significant difference. Still manage to boost it from 20%-80% under 40mins.
Brightness
As someone pointed out, I need to raise the brightness bar more to get the same amount of brightness to compared to Android Oreo. I do not use adaptive brightness.
Audio
The loudspeaker seems to have more treble now, and it is quite horrible, it has more hissing sound than before.
Recent App Layout
I hate it. I prefer the vertical layout (Yes you can revert it back to vertical layout by freezing the Oneplus Launcher, or something like that). Locking apps in the recent menu takes a bit more effort now.
Ringtone/Notification/Media Adjustment Layout
The new layout for adjusting the volumes is horrible. I always wind the ringtone volume as sometimes I am in a more quiet environment (No, the alert slider is not the way to go for me). So now in order to adjust the ringtone volume, i had to press the little wheelcog icon after pressing the volume rocker, bring up the volume settings, and then wind the ringtone volume, and it will playback the sound just before i could stop it, which is very annoying. I prefer the Oreo style volume adjustment. The playback is just plain annoying.
Alarm Clock App
The new alarm clock app is horrible. For every new alarm I set, it will require me to change to my favourite alarm sound (because now the default one is Spring, i prefer Alarm_Clock_5).

after updating to android pie on oneplus 6 advanced settings is Missing...and also option to forbid internet access for apps is missing....dese two r very useful essential.. is it hidden r any ways to get it back?
No more advanced reboot menu.
No more xposed
The new nav bar is pretty good! Got used to it almost immediately.
Overall performance is at par with Android O.
Haven't found anything that's substantially new, other than the new UI which is a good welcome change after seeing the previous one for so many years (across all OP devices).

Workaround here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...nos-5-1-5-ota-oneplus-6-t3794232/post77696736
No advanced reboot, face unlock is a bit slower (despite the clean install), it seems there is a problem with some sounds in apps like twitter in silent and vibration mode, and i think that the new settings layout it's pretty confusing...
I noticed i can't install twrp i stuck on "fasboot boot twrp.img" i get a crhasdumb mode. I tried everything like msdownload full phone install with that. Nothin happens. Tried to install pie with via fastboot. Nothing, any helps? (With msdownloader oreo is still working the twrp boot command )
Battery is a little better....
Camera is the same ***** than before, or worse.....
Apart that everything seems to work,,,,
I like it. No issues on mine. Plays gfx intensive games good and less heat, better game mode options, and seems less lag for me
Anyone facing animation issue while disconnecting a call? I am facing it continuously
It was super smooth on oreo
I do like the new quick settings as someone who can't see small print or icons this is a very welcome change. Also like that I can have both battery icon and % on bar, don't know why just my preference to have both.
I don't like that the volume button only controls media over ringtone and no way to change it. I much prefer the old way of the volume settings. OP still has not separated the ringtone from the notification volume control, this point drives me insane.
I've shut off the adaptive brightness, I find it worthless and I don't need Google deciding what they think the brightness level should be for me. Not sure if it was OP or Google, but the initial brightness level was set entirely too low.
I knew it was coming, but still a little miffed that OP didn't put some code back in bringing them back. I hate, absolutely hate that Google took away the different profiles for battery and location. In essence you either turn it on or off for both. I liked the different profile settings on both of these, I don't need nor want everything in location set to High (which is what it is), I want my battery saving setting back. Same goes with the battery, I would like to be able to shut off that adaptive battery and choose my settings like it used to be. I'm not a fan of how they changed the battery usage stats around either.
I'm still waiting on to see if I see any battery savings to this new way, but so far it seems to be more hype than actual real world performance.
The settings menu seems to be a bit disorganized for me with entirely too many submenu's within menus, so IMO it's a bit convoluted.
As for OP, still having issues of 3rd party dialers finding the call settings, they've yet to fix this.
I've installed Nova launcher since the tap off issue is now fixed in P and have all my features I missed so much from prior phones.
Camera quality has gone down

The smoothness in the new App switcher is a little buggy. Could be smoother.
Everything else work es fine for me. Battery life seems the same.
Got somebody a issue with Threema? I only get messages when i open the app. I switched on the background processes for Google play Services and Threema and deactivates the battery optimisations but some settings you can toggle in Oreo are gone.

Yesterday i noticed something strange in my OP7p and i'd like you to check whether something like this occurs in your phones. Issue, which i will describe occurs only when i have 90hz refresh rate set and the low brightness of the screen with the auto adjustment of brightness turned off. The easiest way to see that is on youtube application with a dark theme. When we start a movie on the full screen (horizontally) and watch it for a few seconds, then go back to the vertical position, there is something like weak but visible blink of the screen, or a minimal colours change. It can be noticed in other apps, e.g. on facebook. Seems to me this is a software problem, beacause the same phenomenon doesn't exists when we set 60hz refresh. I would be very grateful if you can check it on your phones and give me a know about it.
I don't usually start videos in full screen mode and never noticed it but yeah definitely does a white flicker.
This is the highest brightness I could get it to do the flicker at.
Thank you for an answer. Personally i am able to see this flicker on a little bit higher screen brightness, but maybe its because im sitting in a dark room now. I was worried cause sometimes i see it during the normal usage of phone, and if only my OnePlus would be affected by this flickering i could still return it or exchange for a new one. It isnt very disturbing however interesting is whats cause of it.

You might want to try the DC dimming option in Settings->Utilities->OnePlus Laboratory.

From what i know jelly effect appears while we scrolling some content and propably that's not what i meant in my first post. Also flicker in my case is only visible on 90hz refresh rate.
I have galaxy s7e as a second phone and that effect doesn't happen there.

Thanks but i tried this option and it didn't do the job well.
I've set my AOD to "tap to display for 10 seconds" on my phone.
With the screen off, I notice that when I tap, there is about a 1 second delay from my tap to the AOD being visible, and it has a slight fade-in transition animation effect. Is there any way to speed this up (instantaneous, no transition effect)?
I've checked out Developer Options, System UI tuner, etc, but nothing is coming up.
This isn't specific to the Note 20 Ultra; I'm pretty sure this applies to any Samsung (maybe even any Android) phone in the last couple years.
Same issue here with my s20 plus (exynos990)
And i can't find a solution
I've noticed this delay since day one and i spoke to samsung's maintenance but they told me there is nothing wrong with the screen.
It's not a big deal anyway but it's kinda stupid when you have to wait for a while after tapping the screen
Hi,
anyone noticing lag in the rotation animation? Most of the time the first time is pretty smooth. When changing rotation a few times thereafter the animations look more like 60 fps (although 120 is activated). Tried it in different apps. Always the same and really annoying and ugly.
Can anybody confirm this?
This issue goes way back. Even my 10+ does it.
Might have to do with the sensor refresh rate and/or degree of tilt/time at tilt/yaw.
If it takes more then a second there's definitely a fault issue.
Mmh. Actually I didn't recognize this when using my S20 with 120hz. At least not that much. So there's nothing that can improve the experience? I even thought the phone didn't have this behavior from the start which led to the question if I have something fishy installed. But there's nothing out of the ordinary. It's the same when using stock launcher or Ruthless launcher.
Be interested if there was a way to make it more responsive. This aspect of the device's behavior is slow by comparison to it's otherwise snappy performance. It is irritating... I hate waiting.
It's about .5-1 second on the N10+ in Brave browser and elsewhere.
I'm going to go through accessibility settings again. It's likely a user hidden setting though.
Have y'all dug into Developer Options & set the animation speeds to 0.5 (or 0)?
It might help some, if you haven't already done so. However, I've experienced it as well on occasion, getting "stuck", if you will.

For me the problem is that it looks sluggish as if the phone struggles to display the 120 Hz. Setting the transition scale to 0.5 or 0 doesn't do it for me. Makes it even more unsatisfying.

It has nothing to do with your refresh rate or does it? It so there may be some hope.
Like I said though both my N10+'s behave this way, it's normal... and irritating.

Honestly it looks like the phone is struggling to keep it on 120hz when rotating. When I choose 60hz and rotate the phone it looks the same way constantly. That's why I'm thinking it has something to do with the frame rate. So in my case it's not about a delay for the animation it's about the smoothness.

What I'm talking about is how long it takes to flip the screen to landscape once the phone's flipped. Close to 1 second.
I always disable all animations as it wastes resources plus I like the snap.
Lol, if it needs animations, it's too slow.

Sounds like something might be bogging it down.
I have the obligatory delay when rotating (because you have a ton of redraws happening on top of the actual animation itself, not some accessibility setting), but it is minimal. That aside, the rotation is smooth with animation set to 0.5 and adaptive motion smoothness.
The difference between your previous S20, my previous Note 20, and the Z Flip 3 is the lost RAM. This is an 8GB device, compared to 12GB or 16GB from last year. After some time getting used to being able to launch a bunch of stuff, it is easy to forget that this one can't run quite as much at once.
The only sure way to stop that completely without having to keep tabs on how much is running would be Developer options -> Don't keep activities or setting Background process limit, both of which come with some downsides.
If it is happening with a single app running after multiple turns, that could indicate an issue with the GPU. It could be as simple as poor cache handling that will be resolved with an update or a clean start. It could also be a hardware issue.

This sounds like a reasonable explanation to me. The S20 with 12 GB indeed hadn't any of those issues, at least not to that extent. In addition I don't have that issue permanently. It only occurs from time to time. Haven't got an update since release. Hopefully it gets an improvement in the near future as it is disturbing. Nevertheless it is a joke that something like that happens even with 8 GB of RAM.

Do you use split screen apps? The only time i've really come across the issue was trying to run both a game and the browser with a couple other apps still in the background.
I think an update will definitely help, though. It seems like the 8GB on this is a larger step down than it should be right now and it is supposed to be a much better GPU.

No, I don't really use split screen apps. Hopefully an update will help. The device definitely has some obvious tradeoffs but in general it feels fresh and I really like it.
Just an update from my side: Indeed my inner feeling wasn't wrong. I just encountered the sluggish rotation again. Thereafter I went to developer settings and enabled show refresh rate. I went back and tried rotation again. The first time all is fine and it shows 120, but the times thereafter it jumped to 60 Hz when rotating. And if course my eyes will notice this behavior as they are used to 120. Hopefully this will get fixed. This has to be software related.
So this behavior is due to the adaptive refresh rate. It's there a way to force 120 all the time?

I tried this app and I am not fully satisfied with the outcome. Of course forcing 120hz will train the small battery even more and I don't want to be dependant on a 3rd party solution. Just to confirm the behavior is not only on my end, can you please test the following on your device?
1. Go to developer options and enable show refresh rate
2. Go in following apps: e.g. Whatsapp, Facebook, Google Play, Samsung Internet, Amazon Shopping (cause I don't face this issue on all apps)
3. In each app wait a few seconds four the refresh rate to go down to 60 and then rotate the screen (In my case the refresh rate stays at 60 when rotating in the mentioned apps and this looks horrible when the rest is running on 120hz)
If you could borrow a few minutes of your time to check that would be awesome and is very appreciated Thanks in advance!
Update: Just to be sure I did a factory reset. Still no improvement...
Further investigation gave me more information. There is something weird going on. When display brightness is low (around 10-15%) there is no issue for the phone keeping 120 while rotating. When I go up in brightness the 60hz rotation is back again. This is horrible. I've had a look on the new iPhone 13 pro and Apple doesn't have these issues with their adaptive screen. As I had the S20 before and skipped the s21 with the adaptive one this Flip is my first Samsung device with an adaptive screen. The experience is horrible. I just want a compact android device without such a compromise. This is ridiculous.
I've noticed that every time on turn my screen off and AOD appears, after 3 seconds it flickers quickly once time. Has anyone else noticed this? It's very annoying and happens every single time. On reddit someone mentioned it's due to the screen changing refresh rate, but when I forced my screen down to 60hz in the settings it did the same thing.
