Guide on going back to stock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

So I was having a ton of issues with my S4 from Fido (Canada). I tried to go back to stock, but no matter which stock I downloaded from samsung-updates.com (each one being 1.6 GB at 50KB/s from Rapidgator, with a 2 hour wait time between downloads and 1 DL at a time max.... arghhhh), I could not get my phone back to normal. I triple checked to make sure I was downloading the right version, and I was. The same model name, baseband, region, etc. Apps would randomly crash, no sound, network would disconnect, etc. Tons of random problems. Then I found this guide on the S3 board:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984717
And using that program from Samsung which I had no idea existed, I was able to go back to the exact stock ROM/firmware for my device. Now the same ROMs that I had issues with work perfectly, after installing them after installing stock.

Constant Loss of Single/Odin 1 Click Boot Loop

Background. Was using 2.2 for the longest time, loved Firefly. Went ahead and bit the bullet and decided to go to 2.3 and use Gingerbread. Solid week of great success. However I started notcing my antenna saying no signal. Several Reboots and still nothing worked. Decided I would One-Click Back to 2.1 and start fresh. Well I never had issues with Odin 1 Click before, but now I get in a boot loop (ATT SPlash Screen) I have noticed when its unloading the package after , the last thing i see is CSC and that it boots into the loop. Would love to get my phone back to stock so i can see if its a hardware or software issue with my antenna. I have looked at this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36 but was afraid I possibly might still have GB bootloaders on my phone. I would think not if Odin finished, but I just want to double check with the community so I dont brick.
Thanks guys.
Can you get into DL mode? IF so, i would try and Odin again. ALthough I looked at the link in your OP, unless your heart is set on 2.1JH7, i would use the Odin3 one click downloader. That will restore your phone to 2.1JF6 as well as flash the correct bootloaders. I have gone back and forth from continuum to cm7 a few times now using that method.
Thanks for the quick reply. however this is the 3rd time trying Odin-1 Click tonight and I still end up in a boot loop. I have redownloaded the file just to make sure I didnt have a corrupt one. I just want a stock system and see if the constant antenna issues continue. (Trust me Ive tried different modems and all those possibilities.) Is it safe with that link? I noticed when i do Odin they flash a sbin and bootloader. I am assuming that puts it back on 2.1
which Odin are you using? Are you using the one click program that gives you stock firmware... JF6 firmware?
It is here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBSMALFJ
Yup thats what I have. It looks like it doesn't load the android system. Soon as it says installing Multi-CSC its done and rebooting. It would seem like its not unpacking the files. I have no status bar at the bottom. I have no idea why its doing this. Here is the crazy part. If i go back to the ginberbread stock, its not a problem to get to boot.
while I'm no expert.. seems like a bootloader thing. Try downloading it again from the link i put up and see if it was maybe a corrupted download.
The bootloaders are the first thing flashed in odin. It stopped after that then you have stock bootloaders. Also if all you see is the white AT&T screen and then it reboots, that indicates stock bootloaders as well. The gb bootloaders have a black galaxy s I9000 screen as the param.lfs image.
I would bet money you have stock bootloaders, use that link you posted that work be perfect. If you go back to gingerbread and want to return to stock bootloaders you'll have to use one click again even though you got a problem from it this time, if you get the same problem you know this worked to fix it.
And lastly usually problems with cell signal are modem related ... Which one were you using, did you even try another one? That would've been my first move instead of going all the way back to stock.
Hey studacris,
I have been using Mosaic (Love the work you guys do over there). I did try and use the other method to get back to Stock Last night and it did the same thing. Just a bootloop. If its plugged into the USB cable it goes directly to the Battery Symbol, if its not the Att 3G bars loop. I can flash to Gingerbread stock and then apply Other Roms. I tried GR-2 and Mosaic again, but still nothing with the signals. I just dont like the fact I cant get back to Stock with those 2 different methods. What I think is odd is when I load Gingerbread, it seems like items are being unpacked and loaded. When i try to go to Stock, everything happens super quick, making me believe nothing ever gets installed on the Internal Card during the unpacking sequence. I am no pro, but thats just something i noticed. Here was my original post on the Mosaic board. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14043766&highlight=Rizz67#post14043766

[Q] Not QUITE back to stock Rogers?

OK
I was having trouble with ICS ROMs and decided to go back to GB.
I chose Silver's GB rom and was mostly happy with it but could not get LTE even in places I know have plenty of signal so I decided to go "bone stock Rogers"
So I Odined back to "stock" using I727RUXKJ7_I727RRWCKJ7_RWC from SamFirmware, and even reset the flash counter.
Mostly looks OK but I still don't seem to get into LTE mode even when I'm in the city (it used to just switch up as I progressed down the highway, then drop back as I left the city (Ottawa))
I tried reflashing just the Rogers modem Radio_RIL_I727RUXKJ7.zip, but no difference...
Today I thought I would see if Kies recognized my phone as being "stock", so I let it do it's upgrade and connected my phone... it saw the phone but reports it as "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies."
The firmware it sees says "Current firmware version: PDA:KJ7 / Phone:KJ7 / CSC:KJ7 (ATT)"
I suspect that the "(ATT)" is where the problem is (maybe for my LTE issue too??)
Anyone know how I get the CSC to stop reporting itself as ATT?
Thanks,
Jamie

Cany ANYONE tell me where I can find the Rogers CSC? I can't seem to find a way to extract it from the md5 file. ('cause I have no idea of the file format)
Is there a way to find and edit the file right on my phone instead?
not the right file, the rogers one is "I727RUXKJ7_I727RRWCKJ7_I727RUXKJ7_HOME.tar.md5" , everything u need to know is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
Thanks again,
That worked perfectly... back to stock, re-rooted, and restored... Kies once again recognizes me, and I'll find out Friday, when I get into the city if the LTE is back to working again. (and IF Rogers ever drops ICS I'll be able to install it)

[Q] Service is toggling after flashing JB on i727

I have two questions 1) is my only way to fix this to go back to stock ICS using ODIN? 2) Once i get back to that, what do i do in order to get to a working version of JB? is it as simple as trying another ROM? Is it ok to skip ICS and just flash another version of JB?
Background if you want it....
Followed vincon guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1773659
Started with Stock ATT 4.0.4
CWM via odin
baseb: UCLI3
I flashed JB [ROM] [4.1.2] [UCLL3] Stock Debloat to my i727 last night. Everything went seemingly smooth, everything worked with a strange exception being my exchange account wouldn't authenticate.Today my service is off about 95% of the time, then it will come on and ill get a text or two, then it goes off. voice calls dont work at all. LTE data is hit or miss.WiFi works
In phone status under network type its toggling: UTMS:3 to HSPA:11 to HSPAP15 to no service...then it drops everything and service state will say out of service and disconnected.
My IMEI is correct, I confirmed that.
It tried dialing the *#*#XXXX#*#* thing, that just said no connection and ended.
I started to go down the path of looking to flash a new radio, but that just doesn't seem like the answer to me... obviously the risk of me being wrong is high. i did check the MD5 numbers on other radios though and they came back as mismatched, so i did nothing there.
Also i wiped cache 3 times, as well as dalvek
Is there a simple solution that Ive missed or do i need to go to stock via ODIN? What, if anything, did i do wrong>
If you didn't flash corresponding UCLL3 baseband - AFAIK intermittent service is expected.
If you need to flash baseband - flash the latest UXUMA7 baseband.
Well i've actually had the exact same problem, in several variations and on several androids and here's my conclusions:
1 Magnetic storms and grid issues with the carrier. There's not much to do about these, except maybe for a making a tin hat for your phone. But, on a second thought this would also kill the signal
2 If the issue persists for more than a couple of days then the other thing for me was = radios that just didn't work with my carrier or rom. Changing these showed instant results.
I actually had this exact problem but for me it was on the carrier end. I tried every ROM and radio out there to no avail. After about a month and my parents also experiencing the issue, we called the carrier and they had it fixed in about two weeks.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
thanks for the help -
gonna try latest baseband and see how it goes

That's good to hear

Samsung S4 constantly losing connection, but still shows connected.

My girlfriend's AT&T S4 loses connection, but still shows it connected. So you never know you don't have a connection until you reboot the phone and find that you have missed 2 phone calls, 3 emails, and 15 texts. This happened with the stock Rom. I've tried a couple of different roms, but still the same outcome. I'm thinking I should have to switch to a different modem, but I'm not sure which one to use. Am I wrong and is there another solution? I'm looking for something that will work so I don't have to mess with it again. If anyone has experienced this connection loss and found a solution, please let me know what to do to fix this phone.
definitively you need to update the modem.
2 ways to achieve the update: either by a new rom firmware (http://live.samsung-updates.com/?device=GT-I9505), either by just update gsm modem/wifi fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50965837&postcount=2627)
But I strongly suggest before, to look at what your device model is. Mine is S4 LTE international = GT-i9505.
Don't know yours.
Hope that helps.
Ahh... a response. Thank you
So if I change the Rom, that will change the modem too? I thought the modem stayed with the phone and you had to change that separately. This can get so confusing at times. But this is good news never the less. The model number of the phone is GT-i9505G running a custom Rom ( Super-Nexus ) 4.4.4, baseband version 1337UCUFNB1, Kernel version 3.4.0-1125940 [email protected] #1
I hope this information helps you understand what I have so you can find a solution. Thank you for all your help
You're right. changing the rom doesn't update your modem unless you flash a stock firmware via odin. But read carefully as samsung at&t version is specific (meaning specific firmware).
You will find bunch of files by looking at "modem galaxy s4 i337" on xda thread. Depend on what you will find, either only modem/wifi fix either the full stock firmware, you need to update via Odin.
also a good start is to take a look at xda thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
And it seems that AT&T already realease some new stock firmware > http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB419415&cv=820&partner=LinkShare&siteId=TnL5HPStwNw-V7YmgDyzwWW7TSi7CwkqtA
I tried a Note 4 Rom first
I have a Note 3, I've had a Note 2 (I loved the macro setting and wished they'd kept it for the Note 3), so I thought I would try the Note 4 Rom on my girlfriend's problematic S4. It got stuck in a boot loop. I ended up using the link you gave me for the stock (but upgraded) AT&T Rom. I see it brought the phone from NB1 to NJ4 firmware. I'm hoping this improvement will solve the problem of a connection loss bring that is a factory firmware upgrade. She can also get OTA updates again. Thank you for your help. Now it's time to find a different Rom for my Nvidia Tegra Note 7. This thing is terribly slow after the upgrade to Lollipop!
Note 4 has a complete different hardware from S4. That's why you had boot loop.

Galaxy S7 Edge Root - No 4g LTE

I have attempted to root my phone, and it has succeeded the last time. I have installed Busybox, Xposed, and verified root works.
Problem is my signal in the status bar only shows 4G, and never LTE, which I have gotten before. I'm also getting H+, and H, as well as 3G, which I never got before. When I had LTE it was a significantly faster than any of the others (H+, H, 3G, E+).
The I softbricked my phone the first time because I used the wrong Xposed framework, so then I reset to factory. However the factory image I downloaded may have been different? I'm not sure, as it appears to be the latest stock firmware, but somehow isn't. Actually, now that I look at it, it appears it isn't a T-Mobile firmware I flashed at all...I have all the T-Mobile bloatware installed, but there's no WiFi calling, that's my first red flag.
I downloaded the firmware from Sammobile, and I'm 100% sure I used the G935T firmware. If you know of a better place to download firmware, or an official site that'd be great. (This is the name of the ZIP I flashed (well, I flashed just the AP in the ZIP: G935TUVU3APG1_G935TTMB3APG1_TMB.zip)
Also, the Kernel Toolkit CPU options do not stick at all, every time I close and reopen the app they are reset back to default.
Anyone have any idea on how to fix these? Thanks.
EDIT: Going back to stock firmware using Kies 3.
Does your baseband match your build number in about phone? I had mismatched the two and got 4G instead of LTE.
im wondering if you ever got this issue fixed i actually have the exact issue ??????
