Wifi will not stay off. - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on Moar v6 my wifi won't stay off. When signal drops the WiFi turns on. The "smart network switch" is not checked. Thanks in advance

if I remember correctly if you're using kt kernel.there are some settings you can adjust for wifi connect in there.I can't remember exactly how it was I've tried to use his kernel a couple times but never really have good luck with it.

wifi fallback issue on SGH-i727????

Hi,
Just wonder if anybody is experiencing the same wifi fallback issue on the SGH-i727?
Basically, the phone doesn't automatically fall back to the previously added wifi network from LTE/4G when the screen is off. To get around that, I'll need to hit the power button once every time I enter the wifi range. When the screen is turned on by hitting the power button, I will see the 4G/LTE being replaced by the wifi icon very quickly. After that, it will then stay connected to the wifi network regardless whether the screen is on or off.
I was able to confirm this issue by monitoring the app traffic before and after I turned on the screen.
Without turning on the screen in the wifi range, the phone will stay on the 4g/LTE network forever even though the previously added wifi network is available.
I have already tried out different routers and it's still the same. SSID broadcast is on. I am thinking if there's a bug with the phone. Note that on my phone, my "Wi-Fi sleep policy" under the advanced menu of the "Wi-Fi settings" is always set to "never". Also, it's a stock ROM, nothing is modified at all.
This issue has never happened on other phones. What you think? Am I missing anything here?
After playing with it more, I noticed that the phone will never do the wifi handshake when the screen is off.
I tried turning off and on the wifi in the Wi-Fi settings. If I turn off the screen quickly before the phone gets connected to the wifi network again, it *will* remain unconnected until the screen is turned on again. =(
Did you go into the advanced wifi settings and change the wifi sleep policy?

No, I didn't. I've never touched that setting. The "Wi-Fi sleep policy" is always set to "never".
My phone can still be connected to wifi when the screen is off, so it doesn't seem related to the "Wi-Fi sleep policy". The problem is only that it won't do any wifi connection handshake during screen-off.
Am I the only one having this issue? I guess that's more of a software issue rather than a hardware issue?
Have you tried the AT&T wifi app? It automatically turns off and on wifi as needed
No, that doesn't help.
Yes, I do realize I'm bringing back a thread from the dead, but...
I just got a Samsung Stratosphere (SCH-i405 -- a CDMA-1X/EVDO/LTE Galaxy S phone) and it does EXACTLY the same thing. It's ironic, on the Stratosphere they added a bit of fun that CONSTANTLY lets you know there's networks (which I had to disable), but it doesn't connect to the wifi networks I do have in there until I turn on the screen I guess that's just how it is; at least it doesn't kill the wifi once it IS connected.
If anyone knows a programmatic way to bypass this, I'd be interested, and I could write up a wifi app to implement the solution. I'm guesisng it's a behavior of the drivers though and would take some custom ROM or something to fix.
You could always try to use tasker for automatically connecting to the wifi using radio antenna or maybe can't remember if possible by identifying certain wifi spot.

Atrix 2 known wifi problems?

I have an Atrix 2. It has been replaced twice by AT&T due to this problem. I have factory reset each phone and tried every battery mode, data saver, sleep policy and wifi channel.
The problem:
The wifi turns off by itself! not sleep, off! As in the checked box is unchecked. The phone does it during use and when not being used. The timing between instances is random. The wifi sometimes stays on for hours. Other times it wont last five minutes. I have 4 other wifi devices connected by wifi to my secured router.
Note: I travel across the country for work and the problem occurs at airports, hotels, mcdonalds, ect.
I have called Motorola and their only option is to send it to the with no replacement. I could use some help. I have been searching online and others with this problem dont persist, they simply state that unsecuring their router fixed the problem. That is not an option for me as the routers are not mine.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I recently noticed this problem started after I installed the ATT Smart Wi-FI app. Mine will connect then turn off, wait a second turn back on then I get the WIFI networks avail message and I check it and it's not connecting to the network til I tell it too then it will stay connected all day.
I"ve had my atrix 2 for about a little over a month. It's doing the same thing. Wifi will randomly shut off. I have to go into the settings to turn it back on. It will work fine for a little while then just shuts off again. Does anyone know if this seems to be hardware or software related. I've tried different apps and WiFi sleep settings to no avail. I really like the atrix but this is kind of annoying.
I have the same issue also, except I have top reboot my phone for wifi to work again.

i have the same problem, it's not my wifi connection, but the actual wifi setting turns off whenever i turn off my screen and yes, i've set the wifi sleep policy to "never", so that's not the problem. i've also tried "never when plugged in" and "when screen turns off" and i still get the same problem. i was thinking about going to at&t and asking them about it but decided to come here first.
(a white iphone 4 is looking better and better ) can anyone help?
I had this problem but after I disabled the power saver option under battery and data (set it back to performance) it went away and Wi-Fi works perfect.
Tried different battery saver settings as well, nothing changed.

Wifi Won't Go Off !

Hi Folks,
I can't get my Wifi to switch off when the phone goes to sleep. I've gone into advanced and changed the 'keep wifi on during sleep' to never. I also have turned off 'Scanning always available' so apps can't scan but it STILL won't go off when the phone is asleep!! I rarely use my data allowance with my contract so my 3G is always off and I would like my wifi off when I'm not using the phone aswell but just can't get it to go off
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance
Change it to
Keep WiFi of during sleep=always
And
Tick off =scanning always available.
Your Wi-Fi should switch off during screen lock. Don't expect it to turn off immediately though.

As I said in my post it says 'Keep wifi ON during sleep' not OFF ......and I have it set to never which is correct.
Hmmm u r right it says on. What i observed is it takes a bit of time to go off to make sure user is not going to use it soon.

[Q] [Help] Wifi drains battery even though turned off (Lollipop)

Hi everyone,
I am new here, and would like some help with my Nexus 5.
It is running stock rom and everything, Android 5.0.1 LRX22C
I am still setting up, so still using my old phone while I get all the mandatory apps on before i switch my SIM over.
I realised that battery seems to be draining rather quickly even it spends most of its time on just Wifi right beside the router. Cellular connection is not on. So one day I decided to turn it to airplane mode and see what happens.
As you can see from the attachment, WiFi was on all the time even though the phone was on airplane mode. I believe this is the cause of the battery drain. I did not turn WiFi on.
"Scanning always available" was turned off, and the top battery drainer is "Android system", but at only 1%.
(The screenshot was only taken after I reconnected Wifi and downloaded GSam, that explains the notifications.)
Does anyone know the cause of this? I'd prefer if I do not need to factory reset the phone as I am pretty much done setting up everything and I don't want to have to do it all again.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks!
If you go to 'Advanced' there should be an option called 'Keep WIFI on during sleep', click there and then click 'Never' or 'Only when plugged in'. Good luck.
I too had the same problem when i updated to lollipop but after some days of usage i found that in wifi under advance there was a new option scanning always available which was turn on. What this setting do is even if ur wifi is off the app can scan for wifi signals for the location. So if u want to keep ur wifi off just turn off that setting.
I already had it turned off, but the battery settings still reports WiFi as on. Weird thing is GSam says my WiFi is off, so I'm not sure what is the problem now.
It might be the Android System, reporting it uses even more battery than my screen now.

Does anyone else's WiFi randomly turn on/off?!

If I'm home, chillan out, connected to my home WiFi, sometimes my wifi will just randomly turn itself off.. And then when I'm out (let's say I'm driving around) my WiFi will just randomly turn itself on. I don't get why the hell it does bc it never used to! I have a Sprint S6 and I have connections optimizer deleted (using Titanium Backup) and I have "always allow scanning" OFF and "keep WiFi on during sleep" ON. What gives....?!
Same issue here. It seems to happen only with 5 ghz, not with 2.5.

How can you tell if the WiFi you're on is 2.5/5 ghz??
Router configuration. I use to enable only 5 ghz (faster), but had issues so changed to only 2.5 and seems to work fine now (but it is much slower coping files to pc)
I think the issues you two are describing are different. I think the OP is saying his wifi is being activated (turning on) rather than disconnecting and reconnecting to the network (which is an issue I also have). My wifi will never turn ON or OFF (as if the quick setting has been touched) unless I turn it on or off.
If I'm wrong, then please disregard.

My wifi setting does not turn off/on randomly, however, I have noticed my S6 (920i) seems to randomly forget networks I have logged in to...home/work mostly. There's no option to forget the network, if I touch the network name again I'm immediately prompted for the password.

You are EXACTLY CORRECT... And it is very annoying lol.
Yes, I get the same thing. I try to use Trigger scripts to set my phone the way I like it at work, home, night, etc. Sometimes, I'll turn wifi off, then next thing I know, it's back on. Or vice-versa. There's no setting for it anywhere that I can find.
