Some of you have probably found a guide to root the M2 Aqua that worked on a locked bootloader and didn't require a full downgrade.
However, to do this, you needed an ftf containing a kernel for both the D2303 and D2403.
To help you with this, I have created an ftf containing only the kernels so you don't need to download whole ftf's (they might take a while to download).
Note that the kernel version is for M2 Aqua build 18.3.1.C.1.13
I'm pretty sure it won't work with future updates (but the D2303 kernel should still work)
(why is this in Q&A Thread?)

Hi there.
I got a M2 Aqua D2403 and i was searching for a unbranded/customized FTF and i didn't found any. A few ones for D2303... but no one for D2403.
Is there any?
If not, are the M2 and M2 Aqua firmware compatibles? I searched and only found saying about the variants of M2 D2303, 2306, etc, and not about the M2 Aqua.
What can be used in both phones, D2403 and D2303? or they are completely different in sofware?
thanks.
I think they wont work because d2303 and d2304 has different screens

Well, some people (including me) tested D2303 ROM on D2403 and it does work... Although I still recommend to stick to your firmware (D2403/D2406).

Thanks.
And what about unbranded firmwares? Is it possible for me to unbrand it myself?
Those apps that comes with the phone are annoying.
Just use either a ce one central Europe or a customized one for your region not that it makes much difference I'm in UK and running customized Taiwanese ftf no problems

Hello. My M2 Aqua is branded by Vodafone Romania (Sim locked, bootloader unlock allowed no). If I use a version you suggested it will become bootloader unlock allowed yes? And the Sim will be unlocked? Thanks.

bootloader unlock allowed -no means it can never be unlocked. And it won't unlock your phone from your network it just removes all the bloatware the network put on it. Sorry

friend how to root d2303 stock 4.4.4
I can't find a method to root my device, it's always for D2303 or D2305, and when I finally find something, the build number is different.
Xperia M2 D2306 4.4.4
Build number: 18.3.1.C.1.13
Locked bootloader.
Do you have 4.3 kernel for D2306?
If you do, this - > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2999665

I found this thread and it has a bunch of firmwares but not for 18.3.1.C.1.13 (which I have). Is there any problem if I flash another one, e.g. 18.0.C.1.17? If there is, can anyone show me the 18.3.1.C.1.13 FW? I'm searching this for quite a time.

Yeah, it's 4.3 jb you only need kernel from that, so, open Flashtool select .17 ftf check everything except kernel, follow Instructions from root thread.
Good Luck.

Hello!
This is probably easy but, I can't seem to find Jelly Bean stock Rom for the M2 D2306 model. My Xperia is on 4.4.4 and the boot loader is locked, so I wanted to downgrade to Jelly Bean and use the Towel Root method.
I just can't seem to find any firmware or good tutorials for my model, I've seen a whole ton of firmware/tutorials for D2303. I don't want to brick my phone and have only rooted two phones ever so I'm not very experienced with it.
The tutorial I was following was from naldotech.com for a locked M2 phone.
My Build
18.3.1.C.0.21
Any help would be most appreciated,
thank you!
You don't need to downgrade, you only need kernel ftf which you can find it in tutorial that Miche1asso made. Search M2 forum you'll find rooting methods with out downgrading.
Good Luck!

I think that KingRoot or RootKing can root your Xperia M2.
Good Luck !
You don't need to root via jb now as there's a one click Root tool for 4.4.4. Works great used it myself before is on here in m2 general forum I think
D2303 5.1lollipop customised NCB LB rooted Nuts t2u dual recovery bravia engine 2+x-reality debloated viper audio
Okay, I haven't been able to find the One Click Root you're talking about yet, do you happen to know the name of it so I can search for it?
All the kernals I've been finding for D2306 have been removed or give a 404. I thought I remember reading RootKing has adware in it and wasn't really a full root, is that true?
Thanks for the help so far!

Thanks a lot for everyone's help! I rooted it in less than a minute with linuxct's guide.
Hi,i have Xperia Z3 Dual (d6633)
running Android (5.1.1) 23.4.A.1.232
Is there anyway i can root it?
i'm sure the only way is to downgrade.
so if downgrade, can you tell me the steps and link to FTF?
Please do mention if the FTF's build number and version (kitkat or lollipop).
once i downgrade i'll be able to root and install recovery and i'll flash the pre-rooted file.
THANKS

Hi everyone!
I'm starting this thread as I myself need help with rooting my Sony Xperia M2 [D2303] [Lollipop 5.1.1 - 18.6.A.0.182] using OS X.
I have an unlocked bootloader already and previously tried to flash a custom recovery which failed and put me into a soft-brick situation with continuous bootloop.
Now I think i'm going to ask you all for help rather than make any further mistakes myself.
Really a definitive guide for OS X users is needed.
Thank in advance!
If you have unlocked bootloader why don't you updated your bootloader than flash SuperSu? There's thread by @linuxct on how to update bootloader. It shouldn't be any different than Windows
Good Luck!
