[Q] Getting FAILURE (remote: flash write failure) when trying to fix the boot loop - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I try flashing anything at all it says FAILED (remote: not supported in locked device). I unlocked it via "fastboot oem unlock" but I noticed it keeps getting back to the locked state when the phone reboots to bootloader.
In this thread people say to flash cache.img and see what happens. So I entered the command "fastboot flash cache cache.img" and I got FAILURE (remote: flash write failure).
I just want to mention that I've tried several guides and haven't had any luck. Also I'd like to say I haven't installed any custom ROMs nor rooted my phone before this happened.
Heres's an androidExchange topic if anyone wants to read it. http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...re-while-trying-to-fix-a-bootloop/98809#98809
Is there anything else I can do to confirm that my phone is dead, meaning it's some kind of a hardware problem?

Sorry, but your emmc is fried. Not being able to lock/unlock is a sure sign. You'll have to rma the device.

issue with returning to stock - fastboot flash woes

hey all
so i have to send my 2nd tablet in for my 2nd RMA. it is rooted and running one of the custom roms on here
i want to return it to stock before sending it back (does it matter? do they care? do they check? anyone know? --- this could save me some headaches i suppose)
anyways, i used Philz recovery to wipe all partitions, although data is giving me some issues, saying it cannot mount and cannot unmount.... hmmm... well, i get to fastboot to wipe everything and reflash stock images and it goes a little something like this:
fastboot flash boot boot.img - works
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img - works
fastboot flash system system.img
sending 'system'
FAILED (remote: Insufficient memory.)
Finished. total time: 0.022s
so that doesnt work
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
sending 'system'
FAILED (remote: Insufficient memory.)
Finished. total time: 0.022s
also does not work.
and then i just dont continue with the rest of the 3 or 4 steps
does anyone have any clue what to do here? is there a corruption of my data partition? anyone know the commands to rebuild the partition (is it possible?). i remember there was some tool or command that was used on the old first gen amazon fire partitions after cwm bricked the devices that people were trying.
does any of this even matter at this point? my new tablet will be here on tuesday, and i can certainly just relock the bootloader so it appears stock, but not booting properly. they will obviously be able to rebuild using their internal nvidia tools i believe.
thoughts? comments? suggestions?
thank you
Are you RMA'ing because of cracks or anything else? They do not care about root, and I'll supposed neither for custom roms. But if the reason is related to battery life or anything elese that could be hooked to software, go back to stock.

Bricked for life? Partition error?

Hello!
I have a small problem. A week ago died my phone when i unlocked the lockscreen one evening. Thought that the battery was empty, i put it on the charger and started up the phone a few hours later and the only thing that happens is that Google logo is displayed, then it starts over again. I can go into recovery and fastboot, but it does not matter what i do there. Managed to get it to be connected as a USB drive so I got out the pictures from it. But if you make a complete factory reset including data and restarts there everything left! Tried to run "fastboot format cashe" but it only return "FAILED (remote: flash write failure) "
The phone is rooted and bootloader is unlocked, i had a custom rom installed, and it had worked since beginning of summer.
Have you already tried to reflash stock rom with fastboot? Maybe that will help to get your partitions working properly...
i followed a guide on androidrootz dot com, "how-to-unroot-nexus-5-complete-stock" but directly when i try to flash bootloader i get a error message.
Does the bootloader remain unlocked? What error are you getting when flashing stock?

Yes! It remains unlocked! Heres the "print screen"
C:\UnrootNexus5>fastboot flash bootloader-hammerhead-HHZ11d.img

You could try Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit and get it back to working. If you can get to fastboot screen, then it can get you up and running again.
You'll have to google it, for some reason I got set back to a new user, even though I've been posting on this forum for quite awhile.

I Have tried that also, here is the print from that:

fastboot flash bootloader "C:\UnrootNexus5\bootloader-hammerhead-HHZ11d.img"

fastboot reboot-bootloader
But when it boots up again its still unlocked...
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
Oh! I missed one word. Will try it tonight!
Nope.... Doesnt work either....

Looks like the onboard memory chip is damaged or has failed.
My N5's bootloader would always relock on reboot so I could never flash a stock ROM.
i don't think you have unlocked bootloader , maybe there is some errors try with "fastboot oem unlock" and then try to flash everything

The telephone is unlocked, the lock is open when i reboot the phone.

what if you try "fastboot oem lock" and then again unlock it maybe will work
and @audit13 to get chip damaged? i'm not saying that is not possible but it's only few percent
oh and can you enter in recovery mode? if as you said yes firstly try to flash this http://d-h.st/VcCv
I don't know how it got damaged. One day, ti started bootlooping and the bootloader had re-locked on its own even though I unlocked it straight out of the box. I booted into fastboot, unlocked the bootloader, and it only too a few seconds to erase everything. I immediately rebooted in fastboot and the bootloader was locked again. This unlock/relock happened over and over.
I booted into recovery and tried a factory reset but recovery could not mount cache or data to perform the erase.
My phone just kept getting stuck at the Google logo or bootlooping.

I have tried that also, when im just type "FASTBOOT OEM LOCK" it lookes like this:
C:\UnrootNexus5>fastboot oem lock

OKAY [ 0.054s]

PERFECT!?!? But when i reboot its still unlocked.... if i do first lock, then unlock without rebooting, i get a new meny on the phone where i have to chose if i want to unlock my device. and if i chose yes it will reboot and its the same again....
How do i download that file??? I just got an EXE file, and i dont want to run that!
If it's not sticking on a reboot, that means the memory is most likely gone bad. I guess you could try using the diagnostic tool, which would confirm if the memory is bad.

maybe it's just corupted bootloader @kardanmannen go to http://d-h.st/VcCv and press download now you should get .zip file which you can flash in recovery using adb sideload

after flashing it can take up to 15 mins to turn on because of first boot
@kardanmannen any news?
I'm getting more and more sure that the memorymodule is faulty in the phone. If you reboot in Recovery and select filemanager, for example you remove a directory with files, if you restart the phone, the directory is there again! And when you start it up in recovery and connect it to the computer, theres a few directorys you can write/delete/. Similarly, if you run "fastboot oem lock" and reboot it, its locked the first time it is started up and then the second time it is unlocked again.
Lost hope a little there and went off and ordered a Nexus 6P, hoping it will arrive on Wednesday.

Need help, can only access fastboot mode | FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)

Let me explain my story.
Rooted phone, installed dual recovery, decided to have some xposed modules, installed a ton, went into a boot animation, went into recovery and decided to clear system and now I can only access fastboot mode. I tried to fastboot flash boot Z3_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_v01_FW-93.img, but i get FAILED (remote: Command not allowed) at the end so it doesn't work.
I don't think my bootloader is unlocked. So I guess I bricked my phone unless someone has a way to fix it. I literally rooted my phone two days ago.
Flashtool says the same thing.
Model number: D6603.
EDIT: Currently testing if I can flash an FTF.
EDIT: Praise the lord, flashing a new FTF works amazing.

pixel 2 error slot unbootable load error

Hey everyone!
My wife's piexel 2 bricked couple of days ago. it is stuck in bootloader with this error: error: slot unbootable: load error. Restarting bootloader does not help, can't go into recovery, it just brings me back to bootloader screen with error mentioned above.
I've searched the forums and googled the issue for two days now and found couple of similar issues but no fix that would work for me
Bootloader is locked, so I had no luck sideloading OTA or flashing factory image. At the same time I am not able to unlock the bootloader from fastboot.
fastboot flashing unlock, which according to google's page dedicated to factory images (can't post external links) should unlock bootloader without need for USB debugging does not work for me. I get this:
fastboot flashing unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Flashing Unlock is not allowed
')
Finished. Total time: 0.002s
Device shows in fastboot, not adb, though (again, usb debugging was not turned on before this happened)
Any help or ideas are welcome
Thank you in advance.
Cheers!
Had the same thing happen, only thing you can do is RMA.

How to change the red boot warning back to the normal unlocked bootloader start warn.

To be clear im trying to bring back the old "boot loader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed" boot message from the red one that says "Your device is corrupt. It can’t be trusted and may not work properly." Now I no this topic has already been on the forums but I read them, and made several attempts to fix the issue but was unsuccessful. every time I end up losing my all my **** and as soon as i upgrade to the latest pie ota it goes right back to the red boot message. One time I even hard bricked my phone and had to use the msmdownloadtool to get me back to hydrogen os and still the same thing happend when I upgraded to pie. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to fix this problem.
p.s. I know its not a "problem" really but its one of those things that’s been pestering me for over a month. thanks for your concern.
Did you use in-built updater or flashed pie via twrp?
If you flashed by twrp, you may need to flash twice for both a and b bootslots.
You may try to lock bootloader, use msm again then update pie.
After that try to unlock it may fix
