Since July, I've been eagerly awaiting the ability to video chat with friends using google's Talk and today I read that the Google+ android app has added the ability to to start a "hangout" (Google+ videochat with more than one friend at once).
Are we non-rooted MyTouch 4G users forever in the "out" crowd on this because google won't give us a basic video chat feature for their Talk app? I mean c'mon already, we are at Android 2.3.4 on this wonderful lil powerhouse of a phone with front facing cam, and I don't see any video support for google apps yet....
... have I missed something?
... or is this T-Mobile locking us out of this functionality?

You've missed the ability to read.
From http://www.androidcentral.com/google-app-set-receive-big-update-will-now-allow-you-initiate-hangouts
The Google+ Android app has continued to evolve at a rapid pace. Back in September, Google added the functionality to be able to join a Hangout from any Android phone running Android 2.3 and up. One of the biggest frustrations, however, was not being able to initiative a Hangout from your mobile device. Google has finally brought that ability to the app by allowing you to start a Hangout from Messenger. If you've started a a Messenger group, you'll now see a camera icon that will initiate a Hangout with a simple tap.
Great features just keep coming. Google announced on their blog post that the app will update in the next few days, so keep your eyes out. They also announced that similar functionality will be brought to iOS so you'll be able to Hangout with your family and friends even if they have iPhones and iPads.
If you don't yet have the Google+ app, please find links to the free app after the break.

The new Google+ app will be available in Android Market within a few days, and it’s coming soon to the App Store.

And even if the app doesn't show up in our market i'm sure one of our awesome hackers/devs will be able to fabricate the app to work on our phone. But their blog says it's work on any device 2.3.x+ so yes it will work on our phone.

That was an extremely rude and childish response! If you can't offer help without being insulting, you should consider not posting and just moving on!!

Neither rude nor childish. What was irresponsible was posting a question that has been clearly answered by the Developers themselves.
I never claim to be nice, i just claim to be honest.
edit :
You have no clue how i posted that. If you took it as insulting the problem lies with you. You can ask anyone of the other members here. I am never insulting or demeaning to any of the members. It's pointless to be rude to people that you've/i've/we've never met.
What I read yesterday is that the Google+ app already had the ability to join a hangout in progress, but that the new app being released adds the ability to start a hangout.
Now, I don't think the Glacier ever had the ability to do video chat with google apps. But, after reading yesterday that the Google+ app has already had the ability to join a hangout, I've tried joining an existing hangout with my google+ app but could not find a way to do so. My app is up to date via the Market, but that can be difficult to verify since the market lists the version as being device dependent (and so we could be left out of the latest versions), and since we never could do video with the Talk app., I kinda wonder if I'm chasing my tail here or if video DOES work for us now.
So, has anybody with a non-rooted MyTouch 4G had any success in video chatting with Google+, or have we been left out of having this ability?

Possible for a non-rooted phone? Have you tried it with success? If so, where are the .apks and .libs (more than one?) and how does a non-rooted phone have these successfully installed (instructions)?
And yes, please understand before you insult me again, that I HAVE been searching this forum for these answers (by my ability to read). I'm asking for someone to explain how this is done; not just confirm that they know someone else that did it... I mean it's nice to know that it can be done, if that is indeed true, but you have already started this conversation off on the wrong foot, matey, and it would be nice if you would just give up your fight and let someone else respond if they actually have HELP!

good riddance, it was of no help anyway. Your rudeness was public, so I moved my responses to private (PM) out of respect for the forum.
I'm sorry people, for that display; can we get this back on topic now?

He wasn't rude. You didn't read. He made it more clear for you. You're overreacting. I'm done.
Cease the fight people. We must unite.
If I remember correctly I have successfully joined a hangout using the stock ROM, but it was definitely rooted. I know I've used CM7 to hangout. Decent feed as long as you're on wifi, the mic is a little sensitive though and gives some feedback, esp if you're in a room with someone else in the same hangout.

The information that was highlighted in GIANT RED LETTERS is about the release of a feature to INITIATE a video chat, BUT, the google+ app has allowed JOINING a video chat for a while now. Here, let me repost what information I already read before starting this post:
"Back in September, Google added the functionality to be able to join a Hangout from any Android phone running Android 2.3 and up. One of the biggest frustrations, however, was not being able to initiative a Hangout from your mobile device."
SEPTEMBER! this ability has been around since September. And yet I haven't seen or heard of it working with our phones this is why I posted a thread.
Regardless of the latest release, it seems that a non-rooted MyTouch 4G cant do video chat with the google+ app., nor could it do it with the Talk app. I would like to know if anyone has had success with making video chat work with google apps on a non-rooted MyTouch 4G.
But, it looks like you guys didn't read my questions -- those are the sentences with the question marks at the end. I quoted them above, but I'll try to make them simpler to understand. (Some of you senior users need to just move on if you see something that annoys you, instead of attack dogging people because you don't like or understand the way a question was posed.)
Has anybody with a non-rooted MyTouch 4G had any success with video chat for the Talk app or the Google+ app?
If no...
Is this because Google left out this capability with the Talk app?
Is this because T-Mobile has locked out these features?
And this is implied:
If yes...
How do we make video chat for the Talk app work on a non-rooted MyTouch 4G?
How do we make video chat for the Google+ app work on a non-rooted MyTouch 4G?
I guess I could ask one more question:
Does anybody have a non-rooted MyTouch 4G that can answer these questions based on experience?
Hello everybody and thank you for your interest in Beta testing my Android application. My app is called PulseLA and I am attempting to create a social media application that ranks people, food, movies, cars, etc…. for people to share what they love, hate, and always wanted to do… I have not tested this application on many devices and for some this app is getting (sort of smooth) and for others it’s a total disaster! I was hoping to get maybe a group of interested individuals to join my beta team for PulseLA. You do not need to reside in California or Los Angeles to use this app. But I do have more data centralized in L.A. in opposition to the rest of the United States.
Please contact me via E-mail or through this forum and I will send you an APK for install. I would greatly appreciate all comments, suggestions, and questions for further clarification and analysis.
My E-mail – [email protected]
Facebook Fanpage - http://www.facebook.com/PulseCaster
This app is currently on iPhone if you have two phones or an itouch and would like to see a live alpha version of my app. Please search for “PulseLA”. I have not done SEO modifications so you must spell “PulseLA” exact without spaces or you can do a search for “Pulsecaster”.
Thank you everybody!
Here is a direct link to download PulseLA
Thanks for the initial help. I have gone back to development! I will post back a link in the future.
If anybody is curious about how development is going then feel free to PM me or E-mail me. [email protected]
ehm, can i test this ?
got a tab to try it out on
Hi will try it
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Thanks. Sent Pm's with a link to download PulseLA.
If it will be easier I can send it to your e-mail so you can access the APK directly on your Phone/Tablet.
I'll test this out.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using xda premium
Installing now on my AT&T One X
EDIT:
Getting a white screen, when clicking on other tabs the loading animation plays but nothing happens. Clicking camera tab brings up 'create account' page. Notice a flashing 'camera roll' screen before creating account shows. Very iPhone-ish. Star = Favs? Finally loaded. Most of the other tabs don't. Just a lil advise, try to make the app as Android-ish as possible. A lot people hate, hate, hate direct iPhone ports to Android. At least have some sort of ICS elements in it.
P.S. Didnt sign-up.
This is actually the build for android and was not meant to be iPhone ish =[ However, we do need to go back in and redesign the app for better interface. Are there any apps that you think would be a good idea for me to look at to get a better idea of Android interfaces?
In the future the first tab which is feed will not be clickable as it is based on followers. Because you did not sign up for an account it will obviously be empty =] Upon signing up for an account you will randomly follow 5 people.
Loading the Star the first time is very slow. It will go faster on a wifi connection.
The star is a global ranking based on the top categories. If you were to click the Camera button then you could add things your opinion on just about anything based on the categories. *Note these are not working perfect and search is almost useless at this point. So you should be able to look up under category (things) movies, phones, brand names, food, etc...
So far thank you all for initial testing. What I really need some feedback on is whether or not facebook connect works as I've had a lot of problems at this front. Also if you are able to submit a camera pulse (In the app Camera Tab -> Use Camera) as some devices this crashes the app.
Hey guys,
I am here to ask for your help. We are developing an image recognition technology API for mobile devices (Android/iOS). At the moment our service is during the beta testing period and it is invite only. If you are interested in image recognition, please write to [email protected]. We will send you back login and password (account is free obviously), that might be used at Recognize.IM service site. Feedback would be higly appreciated, so if you give any, you get the chance to win the New iPad. In few weeks we are also starting online hackathon. Person, who find the best use of our API, will win 10 000 USD. Exact date is not set, yet. So, its worth to follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Google+, if you do not want to miss it.
Please, let me know, if you have any questions about our service.
I would be very grateful, if you guys decide to help us with your experience.
Hey Friends and Valuable XDA Members. I am a new developer and constantly looking for innovative ideas to start working on making an app. So when I found it I didn't waste time making one
The IDEA
So I was shuffling through pages of Android Communication apps on facebook like snapchat and kik and found a similarity in the comments of their posts, people used to comment their usernames on these posts, IT rang a bell in my mind and I am thinking that alright so these people want to chat and they don't have a platform to share their usernames and connect with people having similar interests, So I started coding.
The APP
I tried to code it from scratch and as close to material design as I can without compromising on compatibility with legacy and older android version devices. Works on android 4.0+ IceCream Sandwhich and above
Description

Hey great app thnx mate. +1
Hi everyone,
I am wondering why there is no alternative to push bullet when it comes to answering whatsapp messages on PC. All the apps that support something in that direction, only support SMS.
1. Why the run towards supporting SMS? The only people I know that still use SMS are those dinosaurs who do not have a smartphone. Why is the option to reply to SMS heavily promoted as convenient when 95% of our communication uses messengers that are not supported?
2. Why is no one ranting about all those apps not supporting messengers, why do all journalists only promote those apps as convenient, never criticizing the lack of important features?
3. Is there a technical limitation that prevents other app developers to support replying to messages from messengers like Whatsapp, Disa etc? Why is PushBullet technically able to reply to those messages but no other app?
4. Are there just too few people like me that want such a PC client there just is no demand for a desktop (i.e. Windows) client that supports such a thing?
I would really like to have an alternative to that ridiculously overpriced pushbullet premium service.
Why should I pay such a big fee every month for an app that in theory only needs my wifi as ressource, not any cloud services, traffic from the developers etc, meaning no running costs for the devs?
I would have paid 4€ once for the app because what I would be buying is a finished product that does not produce costs for the developers after that but I'm sure as hell not going to pay money each month just to be allowed to continue using an app.
Sorry for the rant but I would really be interested in your opinions on this topic, especially in technical explanations why there is no such an app besides pushbullet. I'm thinking about writing my own app some day for this purpose since there is just no free solution that suits my demands.
