My understanding is to root the phone you need custom recovery. To get custom recovery you need unlocked bootloader. To unlock the bootloader you need to be in fastboot mode connected to a device that can send fastboot commands. I do not think it HAS to be a PC however, no such device exist other than PC/Mac/Linux that has fastboot driver.

@rraquib is correct. You first need to unlock your bootloader which requires a PC. Then you need to flash a custom recovery which requires a PC. Then you can flash SuperSU to root your stock ROM from the custom recovery on your phone, or flash a pre-rooted custom ROM from the custom recovery on your phone.

Thank you guys! I think I got it

Unlock bootloader via htcdev, download TWRP2630-KKOneMine and put it in the fastboot folder where you use it to unlock bootloade and flash it with the command fastboot flash recovery TWRP2630-KKOneMine.img. and you should be able to root.

Yes, it does. So make sure you back up the stuff before you unlock bootloader. You can find the download the one mini q&a, help & troubleshooting. It is the thread with something about sd card. Inside the thread, you will find it.

[Q] Rooting the H60-L02 with EMUI 3.0

Hey there,
I just received a H60-L02 shipped from Mainland China. Being on OS X, I had no trouble installing adb and unlocking the boot loader.
There is something I don't understand though : to gain root access on my phone, I need to install a modified ROM of Huawei's android upper layer ? Why is that so ? Do I need to find a ClockWordMod H60-L02 EMUI 3.0 Rom to root my H6 ?

Thanks, but I can't do that, insofar as I can't run .exe on OS X. Also, I'm trying to understand the basic concepts of rooting on android, in order not to **** things up by doing things I would do on other linux distribs. From what I get, rooting is installing a modified ROM in which everyone is a superuser ?

rooting is getting superuser access to any rom, if you take a look at the batch file, there is a link where you can download twrp, put it in the same directory where fastboot and adb files are
Code:
adb kill-server
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery TWRP_2.8.0.1_h60.img
fastboot reboot
adb wait-for-device
adb reboot recovery
fastboot devices
Ok it works. From what I get, twrp is a manager that enables you, once the boot loader is unlocked, to flash whatever you want on your android system. So you flash SuperSu, and it is done.
Thanks a lot for your help and explanations !:good::good::good:

How to unlock my bootloader in sasmung A500G, no oem unlock option.

So actually i want to root my phone and for that i have to unlock my bootloader , but there is no oem unlock option in devloper option, i tried that time change method, and didn't work, and i tried fastboot, but fastboot isn't detecting my device, (i checked drivers in device manager, but there was no yellowed drivers (i forgot that symbol name) in other device section. So can anyone help me with this?
To root a phone's Android it's NOT required to unlock its bootloader.

How to unlock Samsung A01

I need some help unlocking the bootloader on my Samsung A01. The instructions say to enable developer mode — basic stuff — and then enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking. You guessed it: the OEM Unlock option just ain't there. I tried the trick with chaging the date and checking for updates, but it didn't help. Please, can anyone give me some help that will actually fix the problem? I just want to root this damn thing.
To root phone's Android unlocking phone's bootloader is NOT required.

Ok then. How do I do it? All the other guides tell me I have to. And how would I install TWRP, which I definitely want to do?
Every guide I look at tells me I have to unlock the bootloader first.
You do NOT need to root your phone's Android to install TWRP - a custom recovery, but you will need to unlock the bootloader. Take note that Android OS has nothing to do with phone's bootloader, that Android OS gets launched by bootloader if device didn't get tampered.

Ok, how do I just root for now? I want Magisk. I'm trying to install it with ADB, but I'm getting Error 21.
Furthermore, how do I unlock the bootloader when the system doesn't want to give me the OEM Unlocking option?
You do NOT need to root your phone's Android before to install Magisk: you typically root Android OS by means of Magisk.
You install Magisk via TWRP what requires an unlocked bootloader. You unlock a phone's bootloader via FASTBOOT tool what requires OEM Unlock option got activated before applying the bootloader-unlock.

So basically until I can use the OEM Unlock option, I can't do a darn thing, can I?
So how do I get it?
I'm going to ask for help on this again. I've been around the forum, I've looked for anything I could find, and I'm still no closer to getting this thing solved.

Root Access on Wiko Life 3 (Assurance Wireless Phone)

hi, i was wondering if there is any method to obtain root access on the wiko life 3, it is on a Mediatek MT6739 Chipset. The bootloader is locked, and there is no option for oem unlocking in developer settings. i have access to a computer and ADB and fastboot obviously
This tool can unlock the bootloader on many Mediatek powered devices: https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient
It doesn't really play nice with Windows though so I recommend you use it on a Linux distro
