I've always used Swype, since my early Samsung Nexus S days, and personally have stuck with it. Is there anything better than that now?
I updated to 05Q and Swiftkey was so terrible for me to get used to. Anyone use something better than old school Swype?
Swype is still the best. Swiftkey is absolute rubbish, gesture recognition is terrible and word prediction is awful. Stick with Swype.

Looks like someone has had a bad time with SwiftKey, ive used SwiftKey for about 2/3 years now and have never had a problem with it. I find Swype to be to stiff. Same with default keyboards.

I had a bad time with it because it's crap.

I prefer Google Keyboard.
I used to use swype with my old android phone, then was on iphones for a couple years.
Now I'm back on my OPO and the google keyboard seems to be sufficient. I'd like to try something new if it's better, but battery life is a big concern and everything else seems to be worse in regards to battery. So I guess I'm sticking with google
Google keyboard. Its one of the reasons I left the iPhone 6 Plus.

I've used iphones since the 4 series and android devices since the OG EVO. I haven't had a problem with the newest Google keyboard and it's by far my favorite keyboard ever. I can't wait until they release it for iOS, and then I'll have no reason to stay on android lol.
I use shaftamle keyboards available from shaftamle's XDA thread. Best material themes keyboards I've seen so far.
Love the Google Keyboard, it's by far the more responsive and more intuitive. But i'm using swiftkey because the auto-correct works away better than on google keyboard. Would love that google could improve that.

Before I get the hell flamed out of me, let me say that I'm an Android fan. I'm not too fond of Samsung, but I like my Samsung Captivate. I traded my iPhone 4 for it. However, as good as the Gingerbread keyboard is, it isn't as accurate or seamless as iOS's predictive text software. Is there a way to install the iOS keyboard onto my Samsung Captivate? It is rooted and running Serendipity 6.3 (Android 2.2).

no. iOS is closed source and porting anything from is close to impossible. there is however other keyboard software with iPhone themes, such as better keyboard if this is of any use to you .

Thanks. I've tried Swype and SwiftKey so far, but neither were as good as the Gingerbread Keyboard imo.

Just discovered Thickbuttons. I like it a lot. I have the Wildfire S and even in portrait on the smaller screen it works quite well.
can anyone suggest a ios-style keyboard....i've got a ics tab and hate this standard keyboard
buttons, too small and uncomfortable symbol button...
i tried swift k. but keeps crashing...
Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to get the stock froyo keyboard on the nexus s. I really love it and I still can't get used to the gingerbread one after 3 months. I would prefer to do this without rooting and on the phone if possible. Does anyone know of this being possible?

There are small and light keyboards out there that are free but their dictionaries are small to non existing. Anysoftkeyboard and drben0x are good. I prefer the Dr if I had to pick one. A great paid one is smart keyboard pro. That is the one I've been running for awhile and have been happy. I find using the t9 built in helps when the normal keys are just too narrow. Also, there's a dictionary add on that seems very good with available words. Of coarse there are many others besides these but these are my suggestions.

Smart Keyboard Pro has two versions. A free and paid one, it has about the same features. But +1, I use Smart Keyboard Pro as well.. it's very accurate and I prefer it over any other keyboard including Swiftkey.

This is the trial version of "Smart Keyboard PRO" (it has the same features but with a nag screen). Buy the Pro version if you like it!

I've used smart keyboard before and it is better than the stock gingerbread one but for me nothing matches the feel of the stock froyo keyboard. I will use smart keyboard from now on though of no one's able to find it.

Also you may want to try swype. I am using it right now and have become very fast in using it in less than a month. It's also quite convenient to be able to type fast with one hand.
Hey there... you can try using Google Inc. Chinese IME keyboard. It uses the old Froyo keyboard layout, but you have to be careful not to hit the ABC-Chi button.
Install this keyboard from the market. I am not the maker of this and it is a free product.
Its the FroYo keyboard and it works on gingerbread cm7.

I saw this post from last year and thought it'd be fun to get another consensus on the subject, particularly as there is now way more choice.
Personally I've fallen in love with SwiftKeyX, but I'd be interested to know where people's preferences/frustrations lie. Do you stick with Stock, or love Swype or GO, or any of the other hundreds out there?
SwiftKey X for me too. I've used Swype as well. The typing experience in the two is totally distinct so i guess it boils down to individual preference. But even leaving that aside, SwiftKey X is better, IMHO.
Definitely SwiftKey. One of the best keyboards I have used. Simply brilliant.
I like to use my hardware keyboard connected via bluetooth i'm just faster with a hardware keyboard.
Swype
I have swype themed red, love it.
Stock Gingerbread Keyboard <3
I have to agree with you there! I just flashed my Thunderbolt and Galaxy Tab 7 to GB. However, I w2ill find myself going back to Flex T9 because I dictate a lot and the voice recognition is Godly. You don't have to put punctuation in like you do with Google's voice recognition and unlike Google's I have dictated near paragraphs using Flex T9.
Also, I got Flex T9 off of Amazon's Daily Free. It has to be my most used app.
I prefer the Better Keyboard 8 to anything I've tried.

I love SlideIT, very fast and easy.
My favorite feature is the shortcuts you can add, just slide the abbreviation you can set yourself and it will type your specified sentence.
E.g. some built in ones, slide BRB = Be right back, very simple, but very handy if there is something you type again and again, the shortcuts can really speed up your typing. Also it's a nice way to type in e-mail addresses in really fast on sites or apps that you need to log in to.
The new default skin on SlideIT looks bad though, but you can switch to the classic skin, looks much better.
SWYPE keyboard.. works really well for me..

And I just got SwiftKey x because of this thread and... I freaking love it

swype
I just took a look at the couple preferred by previous posters, but I am so happy with the free Swype, I couldnt see spending for perhaps a slight advantage.
I love the swype technique along with the voice feature (tho that requires data I believe). You basically slide your fingers across the keys without lifting between keys. It works faster than you can slide the finger around. I like that I can swype a paragraph and very quickly edit any wrong words it selected. Its intuitive for making quick corrections.
My wife converted to it after insisting on getting droid with physical keyboard due to a neurological disorder that makes her hands rather jerky and flinchy. She is so taken with it she forgets she has keypad when she does need it...
A close second is also a free app called shapewriter, which is essentially the same app, but doesnt have the microphone button. It isnt a market app so I got it elsewhere (dont remember who provided a link to it). Definitely worth a look if you can find it. I use titanium backup to preserve it on my phone.
I never had an android phone, but i did once got to try swype on my friend's phone. simply love it. its amazing how fast you can type with it. so i'll go with that
Right now I'm using Beta Swype. I think I'm going to try Swiftkey X since I got free from the Amazon market.

I switch between the Sense 3.0 keyboard and SwiftKey X. Both are pretty good.
Nokia N900... I got used to it. Now my Android Xperia play
smart keyboard pro and swype
Funny, but i love htc ime from the start
Smart keyboard is BEST!! if you prefer T9

Hi there!
So recently I've moved from my stock ROM to a pretty neat (with a few bugs perhaps) MiUI. For the record I'm using a Sony Ericsson X10i - yeah I'm an old-timer.
So this particular MiUI has this thing, it does not have a Greek dictionary installed in its default Android keyboard and in my experience (from older versions of this ROM which I had used a couple of months ago) I've learned not to mess around with the ROM's language capabilites because 9 out of 10 times I get a bootloop or something like that. So my only choice is a 3rd party keyboard so I can write in Greek.
I'm divided between Go Keyboard which is very customizable and free and Smart Keyboard which I have bought since a long time ago (actually I'm a little surprised as to when or why that happened because it's quite expensive).
At your own experience which one of those would you recommend? If you have any other suggestion that trumps those two I'm all ears. I need a fast quick responsive keyboard since I'm a fast typer that's easy to customize to your own needs.
Thanks in advance!
SwiftKey 3 with the last update is just amazing.
Checked almost all 3r party keyboards and no one can beat SwiftKey.

Swiftkey 3 is indeed awesome
But its costly :crying:
+1 for Swiftkey, I've only ever had one issue with it and that was when it was a bit buggy with Chrome when they Google released it. Other than that it's worked perfectly, I paid 10p for it but it's definitely worth the full price.
I would say messagEase, the best for me !!
A. I.Type it´s fastest, accuratly and awesome keyboard and it's no expensive . . .
Keyboard
My vote for SwiftKey also.
I use SwiftKey and have a tremendous keyboard delay. Especially when I'm texting sms back and forth. Feels sluggish and slow. I might switch back to a iPhone. How the **** do you make a 700 phone in 2016 and have any delay with typing?????????????????
Have you tried the default keyboard? Or even the Google keyboard? They're both very smooth.

swiftkey is known for lag. seriously. it's been since day 1.
i've just learned to put up with it, but yeah, it lags on every phone i've ever had, even nexus devices and moto x. it's especially worse in hangouts, because hangouts is a buggy horribly coded mess.
the stock keyboard is pretty nice bc it uses swiftkey tech, but it's really small and theres no way to log in to swiftkey to get all your user data on the samsung keyboard, so i just use swiftkey.
Your issue is more with swiftkey than the phone. I used to use that keyboard but I stopped due to similar reasons. Try the samsung or stock android keyboard, they both have the swipe style inputs.
SwiftKey is working fine for me. Come up instantly on any apps.
You blame a phone because of software that wasn't updated to support it?
Bro swift key is the problem here, not the phone. Swift key is known for lag.

it's not the phone it's this version of Swiftkey it blows on g4 as well

Wait till they update to support the newer phones better, or just stick to the default.
haha swift key doesn't do anything to support newer phones better....the app lags, period. always has always will. they don't fix a damn thing lag wise when they do updates.

Google keyboard all the way. Google voice for texting while driving, their speech recognition engine is excellent. Been this way for me for a couple of years.
Why is the swipe trace laggy on the S7? I have a S5 with cm13 next to me and it's buttery smooth there. Is it because of the 2k Display? If so I can't believe it...

I stopped Swiftkey ever since they stopped listening to customers.. No improvement to it for too long.. Now I use Google keyboard..
Swiftkey works great on Huawei Mate 8, though...
I don't have an S7, but it lagged a lot on my Note 5... this was the reason I returned it. I depend on Swiftkey heavily because I need English, Japanese, and Mongolian from one keyboard.
I am happy you made this thread though, as this helped me decide against buying the phone. I was hoping Swiftkey lag would have been fixed.
anyone know how to make the default (i assume Samsung keyboard) to delete whole words while holding the backspace button and not single letters? its really annoying
Swiftkey worked great on my S6Edge but really lags on my S7.. Just downloaded Google keyboard and will give it a try for while...
