Seems every time I am playing a game, or just now typing, I get a notification and the edge screen notification bar opens and stays open.
When I open an app it disappears but wait a minute or two and someone sends me a notification.
How can I close it without disrupting my game? I'm tired of always having to close and open my app to get it to dcdisappear.
HELP!

Seeing as that the Captivate does not have a notification LED, it sometimes becomes a problem noticing new notifications. I just want to know if there is some kind of application that would flash the screen for a few seconds or so when the phone receives a new notification. I remember my iPhone doing that and it would be cool to see Android phones doing the same.
Look in the development forum for captivate, there is a thread doing this exact thing

No, I know about the red dot on the screen thing. I dont really need that and besides, I believe it kills battery. I just want some app to turn the screen on for a few seconds when I get a notification.
Maybe go to the noled thread and see if he'll add that feature
my screen does flash when I get a message. It pops up in the notification bar and shows two lines of the message then shuts off.

It does this when it is sleeping?
I just tested it. When its locked and the screen is off it revives itself when I get and MMS or SMS. For emails it does not.
handcent sms will do it when you adjust the settings for the popup menu
Oh, maybe it only works for SMS and MMS notifications only. I would like the screen to flash on for every notification (Gmail, Feedr, AIM, etc). Kind of like how the iPhone worked with push notifications.
Love Handcent, however notifications don't seem to work how I would like them to. I close pop up window, clear notification bar, however unread messages pop back up in notification bar and led starts blinking again after screen timesout to off. Only way I get the led to stop blinking is by marking message read, which I don't always want to do, as I might forget. No other sms notifications on in other apps are active.
Anyone know of settings to make it so the led does not re-blink on screen timeout after closing pop up window (preferred method), or clearing notification bar? I like seeing the green line next to sms for later when I get an actual moment to reply.
Hello Everyone,
I`ve got an idea of an app to read all the notifications from the android status bar and show them in the pop up window (similar to the iphone) with the buttons to dismiss it or open the appropariate app to deal with the occurence.
I find android status bar notifications a bit annoying due to the need to slide the top bar down and press the actual notification to deal with it or dismiss it.
There are pop ups available for texts and missed calls via third party apps and there are similar ones for notifications from gmail, voicemail and facebook possibly, but I don`t want to instal 10 apps to get all notifications as a pop up.
It would be handy to have an app to read the info about all notifications from the status bar and transfer it to a nice pop up window with simple two buttons to dismiss it (mark as read and remove from the status bar) or to go into the proper app to deal with it further.
There is an app called Vibration Notifier which seems to do a bit of the above - read all of the notifications from the status bar and then remind about them in the set intervals by either vibrating or vibrating and sound. The developer of this app did the job by getting the permission (from the user) to go via android`s accessibilty mode. I`d love to see someone going further that road and do the pop up window.
Has anyone seen such an application or maybe anyone willing to write one?
I`ve got no idea how to do the coding / developing stuff - sorry ;-)
Thanks for any replies.
Tommy.
On the S6 when you get a notification on WhatsApp for example, the notification blocks the whole notification bar and stays there for an annoyingly long time
So until the bar goes away you can't swipe down the notification bar.
What settings would I need to change in order to fix this? Maybe stop it blocking the whole notification bar every time I get a message.
Sometimes I get more than one message in a row so it will be there for a long time.
There is probably a really obvious answer for this but I have yet to find it
Any ideas?

Its a feature that sadly comes by default in Lollipop and there is no option to disable it. Unless the app specifically allows you to disable Headsup notifications theres nothing to be done. We are sadly stuck until Google or Samsung realize this is a ****ty way to receive notifications and gives us the damn notification ticker from kitkat back..
I just rooted my S6 just to get rid of this stupid heads up.
I found a guide using SQLite editor.
Open folder File then: /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
Choose Global and find heads_up_notifications_enable and set to 0 instead of 1. Save and reboot.
Worked for me

Not sure if you are aware of this but you can dismiss the message by swiping to the side. Similar to how you would if you were in the actual notification shade.
Took me awhile before I figured this out. I'm much less annoyed by it now.
So theres no way to get the kit kat notifications without root?
It's super annoying. I go to drag down the notification bar and instead drag the screen into a quarter of its size. It's a nuisance.
I have had an s6 for a week and didn't even know what pop-up view was till I saw this and did a search. Guess I never have the problem you do. After playing with it if you can reach past the corner before you drag down it will pull the notification window.
Good question. I've also enabled popup view accidentally and wouldn't mind knowing how to disable it when needed.
I'd like an answer too. My hand is a little small, so I always end up activating popup instead of pulling down the notification bar.
“MultiWindow Toggle for Samsung” allows you to disable the feature. It's available from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nerd.multiwindowtoggle
