[Q] can I go from 05Q to 44S - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title says it all, 05Q seems to not be so good for my phone so can I just flash 44s through recovery as an update like I manually installed 05Q
Thanks

No you can't. You need to perform a full wipe and then you can flash 44S again. But you need to flash the full ROM zip.

[Q] I want to install a CM11 Nightly, but the flash always fails.

I have flashed ROMs a few times before on a couple different devices, but I have a couple questions.
1. When I try to flash a OnePlus One CM11 Nightly through TWRP, it always says "Failed". Is there some simple thing that I am forgetting to do?
2. Will it erase anything that is currently on my phone by flashing a nightly? (I don't care if I have to re-root, but I don't want it to erase anything)
Thanks!

It won't erase anything from your virtual sd card. Of course you should wipe system/data/cache/dalvik cache when installing a ROM. Did you check the md5 of the ROM zip after downloading it? What's the full filename of the ROM zip?

Okay, thanks. And what is the point of wiping the system/data if it is essentially the same ROM?

Because it isn't the same ROM. CM11S and CM11 are similar but not identical.

If you don't wipe your device it will fail on installing the zip. I am using TWRP and it failed no matter what unless I wiped first. You do not have to wipe you "sdcard" but you will lose your apps. I tried doing a data restore through TWRP and no matter what it would just hang on boot after. I ended up doing a backup through titanium backup and then restored after and it brought pretty much everything over including game data.
There might be a way around this in CWM, but I can say with some confidence there is not using TWRP. It's kind of a bad idea not to do a wipe before flashing a different rom anyways.

He may not know if he was successful in unlocking it.
And that makes sense about them being different. I just wish there was a way around it. They are more similar than the next OTA probably.
I wish I could just do a NANDROID backup and try it, but oh well.

Did you do a lockscreen mod? I just updated to 38R and I had to restore the stock keyguard and kernel and uninstall smooth scrolling before it worked.

Your problem is definitely a modified lockscreen, that's why it mentions cmkeyguard.apk in the error. You must be completely stock.

Get the recovery flashable version of 33R from here:
http://dist01.slc.cyngn.com/factory/bacon/cm-11.0-XNPH33R-bacon-signed.zip
Boot into TWRP, perform a full wipe (system/data/cache/dalvik cache), install the zip. Now you'll be completely stock and can flash the OTA zip over the top.

Go to the smooth scrolling and modified lockscreen threads that you downloaded the mods from. Both developers have uploaded files to revert to stock. For the kernel I just googled stock 33r kernel.

Cannot upgrade from 33r to latest 38r OTA or Manually??

I'm on stock 11S XNPH33R (rooted, unlocked bootloader) with TeamWin Custom Recovery and I'm trying to do the new system upgrade but every time I try the OTA it reboots the phone into recovery and does nothing. I tried a manual upgrade by dragging the update into the root of my phone and flashing it via recovery but then it fails, so what is the problem?

You have a custom lockscreen installed, don't you? That's why the update is failing, you can't take an OTA with modified system files.

You need to perform a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) in order to go down, which will wipe everything except your internal storage. You can use Titanium Backup to make a backup of your apps and then restore them after you've flashed the cm-12.0-YNG1TAS2I3 zip. Titanium requires root, so if you don't have root you'll need to flash SuperSU in order to use it.
Why do you wanna downgrade good sir? is there some problems?
im still on kitkat 4.4, and since the new update to COS12.1, i've been considering to upgrade, but still trying to consider the pros & cons here

Bootloop

I was trying to get back to CM11 from CM12.1.1. I flashed CM11 33R; the flash was successful but it won't boot into system and was giving some process error. I tried to wipe the dalvik cache but no relieve. So I restored the CM12 backup and it was successful too but the OnePlus One went into bootloop. Please help genius minds!
Running Android 5.1.1
BTW, I forgot to mention, I did it via TWRP recovery and not fastboot.

Yes I did a full wipe. Wiped dalvik, data, cache and system. I've downgraded to CM11 before too but this never happened.
My guess would be that the needed firmware and baseband for cm11 were not flashed correctly.

The best idea would be to wipe fully (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) with TWRP, then flash the stock images for CM11S.
